Gardeners cannot wait for “Spring cleaning.” Overdue cleaning projects indoors must commence before the first crocus appears because the garden chores always trump dusting, waxing and organizing inside. The Welsh dresser needed a major cleaning and overhaul…a new purpose. How about a bar?

First, empty all shelves, drawers and cupboards.

Clean with Murphy’s oil. Use steel wool and Butchers’s Wax and give a good scrub and polish.

Now, what can be displayed on a bar? Stay with blue & white which fits with the color scheme in the room.

Antique French blue & white dish

Love these antique blue & white dishes. They were a gift from a friend! I spotted them at an estate sale, told her about them, and she went back and purchased them for me as a gift!!!! This is my oldest dearest friend; would not trade her, not even for more plates. (She is funny and will chuckle at that.) I would like to find out more about them. The last decade or so I have spent more time building my Chinese export rose mandarin collection, but I could easily go in this direction. Before I delve into blue & white research, though, I have to read a new book I received for Christmas, Chinese export Ceramics by Rose Kerr and Luisa E. Mengoni.

Now, what could be displayed on a bar? How about pewter wine tastevins?

Tea pots for those who abstain? I know it is stretching the bar theme, but I am fascinated by the pewter tea pot collection my Mother-in-law left us.

Antique pewter tea pot

Before I go too far, any good ideas you could pass on to me? Tomorrow is my ONE YEAR anniversary of this blog, and I’d like to have the bar finished, so I can raise a glass and say

“Here’s to you!”
