<p>This is a good compact GPS logger, which is primarily intended for geotagging digital photos.</p>
<p>The idea here is that the GPS logger periodically records your GPS location and then, later on, the Holux Logger Utility takes this timestamped GPS information and compares it against the JPG timestamps on your photos.  Then for each photo, it can find the GPS record that best matches the photo time and add that GPS location information to the photo.</p>
<p>The basic idea works well.  The M-241 is sometimes a little awkward to use, but I like mine enough that after I accidentally lost my first one, I quickly bought a second.  I use the GPS info for both tagging photos and for generating route maps.</p>
<p>Some specific positives:<br /> * The logger is very compact and easily fits into a pocket.<br /> * The Holux logger utility uploads GPS data as either proprietary TRL files or as Google Earth KML files.  The KML files can be easily viewed with Google Earth.<br /> * GPS signal sensitivity is quite good.  It can sometimes take ten minutes or so to get an initial fix, but it tracks quickly thereafter.<br /> * The LCD display is useful: I enjoy being able to watch things like direction, or speed, or travel distance as I travel.</p>
<p>Now some weaknesses:<br /> * A Duracell Alkaline AA lasts me about 15 hours and a Lithium AA about 22 hours.  (Fairly typical battery life for a GPS device.)<br /> * The battery case cover is rather flimsy and needs cautious handling.<br /> * The two button control UI on the logger takes a little getting used to.  I can now navigate it quickly, but I initially found it rather frustrating.<br /> * The logger utility UI is distinctly clunky and the manual is rather weak.  The UI does the job, but not particularly elegantly.<br /> * You need to keep your camera time synchronized with the logger&#8217;s time and you need to compensate for timezone differences when you do the photo tagging.</p>
<p>You can use either USB or Bluetooth to communicate with the logger.  I&#8217;ve been using USB on Vista, without any problems.  I can&#8217;t speak to the Bluetooth functionality.</p>
<p>Some suggestions:<br /> * Make sure to download the latest firmware and logger utility from the Holux website.  The latest versions have bug fixes and some feature additions.<br /> * In the logger settings, turn &#8220;AutoLog&#8221; to &#8220;on&#8221;.  This means it will start logging as soon as it gets a GPS fix, and you don&#8217;t have to remember to separately turn on logging.<br /> * Rather than worrying about time zones, I ended up leaving my camera permanently in UTC+0 (GMT).  The logger always writes its TRL records in UTC+0, so this means I can tag photos without having to specify a timezone adjustment.<br /> * By default, the logger logs every 5 seconds.  I moved it to every 30 seconds, which I find adequate for photo location and lets me store over a month of records.<br />* If you&#8217;re using USB, it&#8217;s worth turning off the Bluetooth radio to save power.  (This is a new feature in the v1.12 firmware.)</p>
<p>Overall, this isn&#8217;t perfect, but I find it very convenient as a lightweight tool for GPS and photo logging.</p>

<p><strong>simple logger that works</strong> &#8211; Paul Macey &#8211; Los Angeles, CA United States<br />I&#8217;ve had this for a few months, and it works. I take it hiking and use other software (GPicSync, free) to geotag the photos. Make sure you set your camera to the right time (get the &#8220;true&#8221; time from the logger). I seems pretty accurate, finds the satellites after a little while (&#60; 1 min), and has enough recording options. I really like that it uses AA batteries; it will run all day on a lithium rechargeable (2700 mah) that I also use for my camera. When I&#039;m away for a few days, I just bring extra AA&#039;s. It can store a lot of waypoints. It has distance and time logging options, can display speed, distance traveled, location, can be locked to avoid accidentally turning logging on/off. And it&#039;s been knocked around without complaining. </p>
<p>The USB and bluetooth work fine on a couple of computers (XP); it is important to install the USB drivers before connecting it. I find the USB much easier than the bluetooth. You can adjust the settings from the software, which makes life easier.</p>
<p>OK, some quirks: the software appears to offer geotagging, but does not; the GPicSync works great though. With the USB connection, you have to figure out which COM port it connects to; this is trial and error (COM6 for me), but it stays the same each time you connect it. If it runs out of power while logging, the file is lost (same thing if you accidentally turn it off); there is a low-battery indicator, but you need to be checking it pretty regularly, or have a good idea how long your battery will last. The battery cover feels pretty fragile. You can&#8217;t tell it to start logging until you get a fix on the satellites, which means each time you turn it on you need to remember to start logging a minute later.</p>
<p>I think for money and convenience (AA, reasonable memory, accuracy), it&#8217;s the best logging option &#8211; at least in March it was!<br />
<strong>Positives and negatives</strong> &#8211; Christopher Erickson &#8211; <br />Cute little gadget. It is a comparatively fast and sensitive little Bluetooth GPS unit with a tiny display that can show Lat/Lon/Alt/Speed/Compass/etc. and has a backlight. It will also automatically or manually log waypoints and routes with a modest number of configurable options. It works great with my Treo 680 Smartphone and DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2006 Handheld Edition. In fact it is more reliable than my DeLorme Bluetooth GPS&#8217;s. Running 12 hours on an alkaline AA battery is rather amazing. The fact that the accompanying software can export the saved waypoint and route data in a number of formats, including NMEA and Google Earth KMZ format is cool. The software is a bit primative but it seems to work. I hope they come out with some updates. </p>
<p>Now for the negatives. </p>
<p>The USB driver doesn&#8217;t seem to work properly on XP!!! </p>
<p>It seems to work okay on Win2K Pro. </p>
<p>Fortunately it is possible to connect your XP PC and the data download software to the M-241 over Bluetooth and get the data off of it. Slowly. </p>
<p>And Holux Technical Support (email to China) seems to be strictly a one-way communication medium. You send them emails and nothing ever comes back. </p>
<p>Would I buy it again? Yes! It&#8217;s cheap and works great as an amazingly sensitive and fast little GPS. And if you can negotiate the usual quirks and user hostility of Bluetooth, you can make it do everything that Holux promises it can do. However it sure would be nice if Holux fixed the stupid USB driver for XP! </p>

<p>The iPhone is one of the most <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/24/new-study-says-palm-pre-second-only-to-iphone-3gs-in-mindshare/">wildly popular</a> phones the world has ever seen, while Windows 7 is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/21/windows-7-breaks-amazon-uk-pre-order-volume-record-ousts-harry/">well on its way</a> to becoming the globe&#8217;s most ubiquitous OS. So compatibility between the two would be kinda sorta important, right? <!--more-->Tell that to Intel&#8217;s quality control team who seem to have somehow missed an issue between Apple&#8217;s app carrier deluxe and the P55 Express chipset&#8217;s USB controller. Consistent (and persistent) syncing issues have been reported on Apple&#8217;s support forums, wherein iTunes on Windows 7 machines recognizes the iPhone, but spits out an &#34;error 0xE8000065&#34; message whenever the user attempts to sync. While some have found limited success with using PCI-based USB cards (and bypassing the chipset), this is clearly a major issue and something Apple would expect to be fixed before shipping its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/20/imac-line-updated-with-16-9-displays-quad-core-core-i5-model/">Core i5 / i7 iMacs</a>, which are likely to sport the chipset. The <em>Chipsounds</em> plug-in, was reproduced with sonic accuracy in-house, at Plogue&#8217;s facility.   With Plogue&#8217;s vast catalogue of cartridges, classic computers, and modified consoles the sounds we&#8217;re compiled.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.irf.com"><strong>International Rectifier</strong></a> has introduced the IR3522 and IR3506 XPhase chipset to provide a complete power solution for DDR3 multi-phase memory applications. The IR3522 dual-output PWM controller with built-in I2C interface provides overall system control for both the DDR3 VDDQ and VTT rails. The device interfaces with any number of IR3506 phase ICs to drive as many phases as needed to power any number of DDR3 dual in-line memory modules (DIMMS), simplifying layout and reducing board space.</p>
<p>The IR3522/IR3506 chipset enables accurate tracking with the additional flexibility of margining between the VDDQ and VTT outputs through the I2C interface. The Xphase solution for DDR3 applications delivers a power supply that is smaller, more flexible and easier to design while providing higher efficiency from light load to full load when compared to conventional approaches, according to International Rectifier. The IR3522 combines the precision of analogue control with programmability of power management functions via I2C.</p>
<p>It allows output voltage programming capability for both VDDQ and VTT outputs through the I2C compatible interface with a VDDQ set point error of +/-0.5 per cent. The IR3506 provides both source and sink capability to enable more accurate tracking of the VTT output to VDDQ. It supports a power-saving function (PSI) to maximise efficiency at light loads. The IR3522&#8217;s I2C interface programs the VTT tracking ratio +/- 25 per cent and provides digital on/off control. Four I2C addresses are selectable using two ADDR pins, while four different VREF1 voltages are selectable using two VID pins if I2C communication is not available.</p>
<p>Soft-stop turn-off to ensure VDDR and VTT tracking is also featured, as well as a fault activated Crowbar pin to drive external NMOS devices for external output voltage protection. As with all Xphase ICs, the IR3522 features protection against over-current, over-voltage, open remote sense and open control. The IR3506 phase IC features 7V/2A gate drivers (4A GATEL sink current) and supports loss-less inductor current sensing. The device also features a soft-stop turn-off to ensure VDDR and VTT tracking.</p>
<p>The IR3506 offers over-current protection during PSI assertion mode operation, integrated bootstrap synchronous PFET, debugging function, self-calibration of PWM ramp, current sense amplifier and current share amplifier and single-wire bidirectional average current sharing.</p>

<p>Basking Ridge, NJ and San Diego, CA — Verizon Wireless took another step in delivering on its promise of collaborative innovation over the upcoming fourth generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) network with the opening of the lab at the Verizon Wireless LTE Innovation Center. In addition, the wireless leader also introduced a virtual LTE Innovation Center where device developers can access an online portal (www.lte.vzw.com) to discover support services for participants at the Verizon Wireless LTE Innovation Center and directly communicate with Center engineers.</p>
<p>The Verizon Wireless LTE Innovation Center will be a catalyst for delivering new and innovative devices that connect people, places and things wirelessly using next-generation LTE technology, and providing tools for participants to rapidly develop non-traditional products and solutions within Verizon Wireless’ wide array of LTE technology and product enablers in various fields, including consumer electronics and appliances, healthcare, security and telematics.</p>
<p>In addition to designing and testing products in a functional LTE lab environment, participants in the Verizon Wireless LTE Innovation Center will have the support of the wireless leader’s resources to enable matchmaking with various players in the ecosystem, obtain technical expertise on device-network integration and ensure a best-in-class user experience.</p>

<p class="excerpt">NVIDIA (s nvda), makers of graphics chips for Apple’s (s aapl) range of iMacs and MacBooks, has announced that it is putting its Nforce chipset development on hold until the conclusion of a legal dispute with Intel (s intc), expected to be reached in 2010.</p>
<p>At the core of the matter is the claim by Intel that its four-year deal with NVIDIA does not include the Core and Nehalem series of microprocessors.</p>
<p>Nvidia’s PR Manager, Ken Brown, told <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/08/nvidia-halting-chipset-development-after-all/">Engadget</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>…the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M/ION brands have enjoyed significant sales, as well as critical success. Customers including Apple… and others are continuing to incorporate GeForce 9400M and ION products in their current designs. There are many customers that have plans to use ION or GeForce 9400M chipsets for upcoming designs, as well.</p></blockquote>
<p>This makes sense, given that these chipsets have been in production for a while and customers (such as Apple) have long-term supply contracts NVIDIA is obliged to honor. Indeed, Apple’s upcoming <a href="http://theappleblog.com/2009/09/16/rumor-has-it-new-imacs-and-macbooks-coming-just-in-time-for-windows-7/">rumored</a> iMac refresh may well see no change in the use of GeForce 9400M chips in its low-end 20 and 24 inch iMacs. Brown continues:</p>
<blockquote><p>We firmly believe that this market has a long healthy life ahead. But because of Intel&#8217;s improper claims to customers and the market that we aren&#8217;t licensed to the new DMI bus and its unfair business tactics, it is effectively impossible for us to market chipsets for future CPUs. So, until we resolve this matter in court next year, we&#8217;ll postpone further chipset investments for Intel DMI CPUs.</p>
<p>Despite Intel&#8217;s actions, we have innovative products that we are excited to introduce to the market in the months ahead. We know these products will bring with them some amazing breakthroughs that will surprise the industry, just as GeForce 9400M and ION have shaken up the industry this year.</p>
<p>In the world of corporate communications, this is about as bitchy as executives can get.</p></blockquote>
<p>AppleInsider <a href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/10/08/intel_suit_halts_development_of_future_nvidia_chipsets.html">reported</a> on its website yesterday that,  “…earlier this year, Intel sued Nvidia in an attempt to stop the company from developing compatible chipsets for future generation Intel processors. Many of NVIDIA&#8217;s gains &#8212; including the partnership with Apple &#8212; have amounted to Intel&#8217;s loss.” So perhaps all this legal maneuvering is indicative of Intel’s desire to wrest-back control of that sector of the market (and the associated profits) with its own chipset offerings. Perhaps. <!--more--></p>
<p>Undoubtedly, there has been trouble for NVIDIA in the last year, though reading between the lines of countless reported rumors proves a bit of a challenge. It was only a year ago that Apple switched to the GeForce 9400M G integrated controller in their MacBooks. Shortly after, iMacs and Mac Minis got the same chip-love with the NVIDIA MCP79. But by mid 2009, rumors <a href="http://theappleblog.com/2009/07/02/applenvidia-rift-to-spark-major-component-changes/">circulated</a> that relations between Apple and NVIDIA were deteriorating due to <a href="http://theappleblog.com/2008/10/10/apple-officially-admits-to-faulty-nvidia-gpus/">reports</a> of manufacturing defects that affected a number of MacBook Pros.</p>
<p>More <a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1021993/nvidia-chipsets-history">recently</a>, there have been rumors thatNVIDIA&#8217;sCEO and President Jen-Hsun Huang directly asked partners if there was any reason NVIDIA should stay in the chipset business. As the story goes, no one could offer a reason, and the division is closed. NVIDIA <a href="http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=5759">denied</a> it. It&#8217;s hard to know what&#8217;s really going on, but it&#8217;s not hard to see that trouble is brewin&#8217;.</p>
<p>Where does this leave Apple once its existing orders of  NVIDIA chips are satisfied? A mix of Intel and ATI solutions aren&#8217;t beyond imagining. ATI cards are already offered in the high-end iMac and Mac Pro configurations available on the Apple Store. So perhaps Intel chipsets can replace NVIDIA&#8217;s on the low end of the scale &#8212; I just wonder whether Intel&#8217;s chips (and experience in mobile technology) can offer appropriate gains in performance, reliability and power efficiency.</p>

<p align="justify">В днешно време “ гръбнакът” на нетбуците е Atom платформата на Intel. Докога ще продължи това обаче? Потребителите искат все повече мощ при своите мини лаптопи и пазарът започва да се нагажда според техните нужди. Ахилесовата пета на Atom е графичното представяне – и точно там атакуват неговите конкуренти. <!--more--></p>
<p align="justify">За кого става въпрос? Естествено – за Ion на Nvidia, където можем да видим доста повече мощ от графиката GeForce 9400M, в сравнение с GMA 500 и 950 при Atom. Дори и доста скромни конфигурации, базирани на Ion се справят с леки игри и 1080p видео.</p>
<p align="justify">Нека не забравяме и друго много сериозно предложение от Nvidia, което буквално може да изхвърли Atom от света на нетбуците – това е <a href="http://pcstorebg.wordpress.com/2009/06/05/nvidia-%d0%be%d0%b1%d1%8f%d0%b2%d1%8f%d0%b2%d0%b0-%d1%83%d1%81%d1%82%d1%80%d0%be%d0%b9%d1%81%d1%82%d0%b2%d0%b0-%d0%b1%d0%b0%d0%b7%d0%b8%d1%80%d0%b0%d0%bd%d0%b8-%d0%bd%d0%b0-tegra/">Tegra.</a> Каква е ползата от тази платформа? Много просто – от компанията твърдят, че вече няма да става въпрос за часове издръжливост на батерията, а по скоро за дни. ARM архитектурата обаче има един сериозен недостатък – няма да позволява ползването на x86 софтуер като Windows XP, Vista или 7.</p>
<p align="justify">Intel изглежда не са напълно неподготвени за подобна инвазия на тяхна територия и затова приготвиха свой проект – платформата <a href="http://pcstorebg.wordpress.com/2009/05/21/intel-%d1%80%d0%b0%d0%b7%d0%ba%d1%80%d0%b8%d0%b2%d0%b0-%d0%bf%d0%be%d0%b4%d1%80%d0%be%d0%b1%d0%bd%d0%be%d1%81%d1%82%d0%b8-%d0%be%d0%ba%d0%be%d0%bb%d0%be-%d0%bd%d0%be%d0%b2%d0%b0-%d0%bf%d0%bb%d0%b0/">Pine Trail</a>. Тя не се очаква преди края на годината, но също ще предлага нисък разход на енергия и подобрено представяне. Освен това, тя ще се справя безпроблемно с x86 софтуер. Кой ще надделее засега не се знае, обаче близките няколко години със сигурност ще са доста вълнуващи за еволюцията на нетбуците.</p>

<p>Sistem bus, işlemci, RAM ve L2 önbelleği birbirine bağlar.</p>
<p>Diğer I/O bus da bu yol üzerinden işlemciye giriş/ çıkış yapar. System Bus kullanılan işlemciyi göre farklılık gösterir.İşlemcinin tipi System Bus’ ın genişliğini ve hızını belirler.Ne kadar hızlı System Bus kullanılırsa sistemin hızı ve diğer parçalarla haberleşmesi de o derece artar.</p>
<p>Eski bilgisayarlarda kullanılan 486 işlemciler 25 MHz bus hızına sahipken, Pentium işlemciler bu hız barajını 66 MHz’ e yükselttiler.Pentium II ve Pentium III işlemciler bu hızı 100 MHz ve 133 MHz hızına kadar yükseltmiştir.Ancak bu hızda çalışabilmek için 100 MHz destekli PC100 SDRAM ve 133 MHz RDRAM kullanılması gerekmektedir.</p>
<h3><span style="color:#ff0000;">b)I/O (Input/Output) Bus</span></h3>
<p>Bilgisayarın dış dünyayla ve kullanıcısıyla iletişimini sağlayan tüm giriş/çıkışlar bu yolla yapılır.Klavye, fare, ses kartı, modem, monitör, Disk/Disket sürücüleri bu yolla anakarta bağlanırlar.Günümüz bilgisayarlarında 4 farklı I/O Bus çeşidi yer alır.Bunlar ISA, PCI, USB ve AGP’ dir.</p>
<p>I/O bus yolları fiziksel olarak elektronik devre üzerinde yer alan çizgiler aracılığıyla iletişim kurar. Data track adı verilen bir seferde bir bit iletiler.Adress Track’ leri verinin nereye gönderileceğini belirler. Bus yolları aracılığıyla veri gönderimi yapılırken adres belirtilmesi gerekir.Veri akışında önce adres çizgilerinden adres, daha sonra da data çizgilerinden veri gönderilir.Bus hızını ve genişliğini data çizgilerinin sayısı belirler.ISA bus veri yolunda 16 adet data çizgisi vardır. Günümüz PC’ leri birim zamanda 32 bit gönderimi yapmak üzere tasarlanmışlardır.</p>
<p>ISA bus birim zamanda 16 bit gönderebildiği için anakartın beklemesi gereken bir süre oluşmaktadır.Anakart 32 bitlik bilgiyi ISA bus’ dan iki seferde alabilmektedir.Bu arada geçen sürede ISA bus “Wait State” durumunu anakarta bildirir.Bu işlemciye “Bekle, kalanını birazdan göndereceğim” demektir.Yavaş bir ISA kart sistemin tüm hızını bu yolla oldukça düşürebilir.</p>
<h3><span style="color:#ff0000;">b)Chipset&#8217;ler</span></h3>
<p>Chipset ana kartın üzerinde yer alan bir dizi gelişmiş işlem denetçileridir. Bu denetçiler ana kartın üzerindeki bilgi akis trafiğini denetler.</p>
<p>İşlemcinin verileri aldığı yolları takip eden ve işlemcinin bir anlamda efendisi olan kısım ana kart üzerindeki chipsettir. Chipset&#8217;lerdeki gelişmeler işlemcilerdeki gelişmelere paralel olarak ilerlemektedir. Yeni bir RAM ya da bus geliştirildiği zaman bunu işlemciye aktaracak olan Chipsetler de geliştirilir. Pentium işlemciler için farklı Chipset üreticileri mevcuttur. Bunlar Intel, SIS, Opti, Via ve ALi’dir. Bu Chipsetler kullanılabilecek işlemci ve ana kartın performansını belirler. Günümüzde kullanılan LX, BX, EX, ZX, i810, i820, i815 ve Super Soket 7 tipi ana kartların Chipsetleri farklı hızdaki işlemcilere destek verirler. LX tipi ana kartlar 66 MHZ veri yolunu destekler. BX tipi ana kartlar ise 100 MHZ ve üzeri veri yolunu destekler ve bu amaçla üretilen Pentium II ve Pentium III işlemcileri çalıştırırlar.</p>

<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Link_Interface">SLI</a>, for those who don&#8217;t know, is the process of taking two <a href="http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_learn.html">Nvidia graphics cards</a> and allowing them to work in parallel to render to a single monitor. In theory this doubles the power, getting more FPS for video games. Great right? Except due to encryption, only a limited amount of motherboards can actually support SLI.</p>
<p>That is, <a href="http://xdevs.com/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.30">until now</a>. Russian hackers at xDevs discovered that the newer encryption is based around string identifiers. This can be modified within the operating system itself, so in theory any motherboard could work. Be wary, this could brick your system; but if successful, you&#8217;ll have more power without shelling out for an officially SLI supported motherboard.</p>

<p>Intre specificatii mentionam <strong>chipset</strong> de la Qualcomm “MSM7627” care are doua nuclee ARM, unul de 600 de MHz cu rol de procesor de aplicatii si un procesor pentru modem la viteza de 400 de MHz care poate interveni pentru a-l degreva pe primul in cazul suprasolicitarii.</p>
<p>In plus, Pixi va avea un procesor la 200 de MHz OpenGL 2.0 pentru jocuri, si inca o unitate separata de procesare DSP pentru aplicatiile multimedia cu o viteza de 320 de MHz, care face posibila codarea si decodarea video WVGA la 30 de cadre pe secunda.</p>
<p>Intre alte specificatii ale lui <strong>Palm Pixi</strong> amintim <strong>8GB</strong> de stocare interna, tastatura <strong>full QWERTY</strong> si un ecran capacitiv de 2.63 de inci cu rezolutia de 320&#215;400, in timp ce pretul de pornire cu abonament al acestui model este de 149 de dolari americani.</p>
