The third annual Stafford Winterfest Parade is going to be held on Sunday December 16, 2012! Do not miss the festivities, which include hot chocolate, cookies, music, many floats, an appearance by the big guy himself, and much, much more. The parade kicks off at 2PM at Olympic Field and continues through Main St, concluding at the town hall where refreshments will be served as well Christmas carols sung by the Stafford High chorus.

This parade is what motivated Kate, Chris, and myself to start MyStaffordSprings.com. The first year was very good, last year was great, and this should be outstanding as all the shops on Main St will be involved. Last year Kate and I had the privilege of announcing the parade, this year I think I’ll be riding on the Stafford Youth Football float celebrating another amazing year.

Well as 2011 comes to an end I just want to say thank you to everyone that contributed to the Kate & Kurt show. I never thought it would last this long, but I look forward to 2012 as the show is going to keep improving. I would like to thank Chris Paradiso for making this all possible but I would especially like to thank my very special friend, Kate Pisciotta who dedicates countless hours every week to filming, editing, and coming up with ideas for the show and maintaining the MyStaffordSprings website anf Facebook pages. When the Rough Notes Company inaugurated its annual Community Service Award program more than a decade ago, the sole mission was to remind our readers of the myriad ways independent agents and agencies support their communities with acts of extraordinary service and generosity.

Nominees for the Rough Notes Community Service Award are judged on their overall humanitarian contributions. 

Two years ago Chris and his wife, Mary Alice, were awakened late at night by the sound of crying from the room of their daughter, Mia, then aged one.  The little girls temperature was 104 degrees and her eyes were swollen shut.

” I knew several good hospitals were closer to our home,” says Chris, “but the thought of going anywhere other than Connecticut Children’s never crossed my mind.  Our little girl was critically ill, and I was confident we’d get there in time.”

Now, two years later, Mia Paradiso is a healthy youngster who attends pre-school with her twin brother and enjoys activities typically associated with three-year-olds.

What Chris experienced during his “up close and personal” interactions there is precisely what inspired him to devote his time, energy and passion to supporting Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Alison Auciello, director of donor relations at Connecticut Childrens Medical Center, grateful cites Chris’s ongoing contributions. “We are extremely grateful for all that he’s done for Connecticut Children’s and are excited about his plans to partner with us well into the future” Sais Auciello

The Conneticut Childrens Medical Center was presented a $5,000.00 check by Rough Notes in Chris Paradiso’s name.

Chris Paradiso, President of Paradiso Insurance has made it a point to give back to the CCMC through various events.  In 2008, Chris’ daughter Mia was rushed to the hospital and later diagnosed with a rare condition called serum sickness.  For Chris and Wife, Mary-Alice, it was one of the scariest events they have ever faced.  “We were lucky that the doctors at the hospital were able to diagnose Mia as quickly as they did.” Said Mary-Alice.  From then on, Chris has made it his personal goal to support the hospital that saved his daughters life.  “The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center has done so much for my family and so many others. I will continue to do EVERYTHING I can do to continue the support.”

 Recently, Kate Pisciotta, and I, more Kate than me actually, took footage of the Winterfest Parade last month that went from Olympic field through main street and ended at the town hall. At the town hall there were Christmas carols sung by the Stafford High Madrigal singers and hot cocoa and cookies for everyone. The floats were great and of course everyone’s favorite the Stafford firetrucks were a big hit. You can check out the video below if you haven’t seen it already. The video has been a big hit, although a lot of people around town said they didn’t know about this event, I didn’t myself until I stumbled across the local youth band Riptide practicing before the parade. So Kate, Chris Paradiso, and myself thought that we could create a website to promote this wonderful town in which we live in, and that website is mystaffordsprings.com.

The purpose of this website is to promote Stafford Springs and to keep people informed of everything that is going on locally: civic events, Stafford sports, high school and middle school musicals and plays, events at the youth center or the senior center. There is a huge art movement in Stafford, we want to showcase local artists. We also want to promote local businesses, we want people to buy in Stafford. We will spotlight local citizens.
