This 17th century building, the site of an ancient bakery, has been completely renovated. The facade, dating back to 1900, as well as the shop sign, both of which are registered as historic monuments, have been preserved.

Hotel du Petit Moulin

Christian Lacroix , the designer, famed for flouncy, bright fashion has brought his unique aesthetic sense to the Hotel du Petit Moulin in the Marais district of Paris. Lacroix has decorated each of the boutique hotel’s 17 rooms differently mixing various time periods and styles in riotous combination. Toile on one wall, a space mural on the next, a lipstick red bathroom and liberal use of color makes this a far cry from the minimalist soothing experience of so many modern hotels.

Monseur Lacroix says: “When I designed l’Hotel du Petit Moulin in Le Marais, I had the impression of rediscovering an erstwhile childhood dream, left by the wayside. A dream of living in a hotel, building a decor, day after day, in the colors of the times, putting ambiences together into volume and space and not only on paper or through fashion collections. At Le Petit Moulin, we pass from a rustic Marais in toile de Jouy to a more zen or design Marais or from an historical Marais in damasks to a more playful Marais. It is all these contrasts that I have endeavored to translate into seventeen ambiences corresponding to each of the seventeen rooms, like seventeen ways of experiencing the Marais”.

I made this list in a period of my life lacking inspiration, so I had to create my own… The past year and a couple months have been nothing but inspiration from all sides, so I haven’t really felt the need to look at it or dream of far-away lands and exotic experiences.  For some reason, I felt compelled to open the document this morning.  Although my current job is inspiration-ful, re-reading it managed to inject even more inspiration into my much-needed daily dose.  

So, without further ado, here is my list, in it’s totality:

1. Do Tai Chi in a park in China

2. Attend a wedding, in India

3. Become fluent in a third foreign language, preferably Arabic

4. Ride a camel in Egypt

5. Take a cooking class in Tuscany

6. Publish a book

7. Own a Vespa (lavender) 

8. Visit the Temple of Baalbek

9. Ride a gondola in Venice

10. Set foot on all the continents, Antarctica pending….

11. Go on an African safari

12. Sail the Greek isles

13. Eat sashimi in Japan

14. Get my nose re-pierced

18. Visit the Grand Canyon

*Sadly, since I first wrote this list in the fall of 2006, Christian Lacroix has stopped making haute couture.  But just because something you had wished for can’t come to pass in exactly the way you had hoped, it doesn’t mean another, even more interesting experience can’t replace it.  Usually it ends up even better.

If you don’t already have one, create your own list!  It’s fun!  And if nothing else, a great way to spend a couple minutes with your head in the clouds.  A worthy activity at any time.

After the exhibition at the Petit Palais, the Museum of Fine Arts in Paris, save the date of the Designer Frimousses dolls auction on 19 November at Drouot Montaigne, Paris’s prestigious auction house. Since 2003, fashion designers and artists have worked to create something beautiful to help children of Darfur, crafting dolls that become veritable works of art. The whole amount raised during the auction will support the vaccination programme in one of the regions most devastated by the deadly conflict there. Today, more than 4.7 million people are affected, of which 2.2 million are children. Thanks to the Designer Frimousse operation, under the aegis of Laeticia Hallyday, ambassador for UNICEF France, UNICEF carries out the fight for children vaccination every year in the region of Darfur. Vaccination, a method that is both very effective and inexpensive, would prevent these deadly diseases from a very young age (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio) and would eradicate this scourge that affects thousands of children every day. The 2008 sale raised 219,130 Euros, used directly on the ground to finance emergency : in the Darfur region, 260,000 children and 195,000 pregnant women received vaccines. Don’t forget these dolls will be sold at auction on 19 November at Drouot Montaigne:

Après l’exposition au Petit Palais, n’oubliez pas la vente aux enchères des Frimousses de créateurs  demain: 19 Novembre, à Drouot Montaigne, Paris. Depuis 2003, créateurs de mode et artistes créent des poupées de collection uniques, de véritables oeuvres d’art pour venir en aide aux enfants du Darfour. La totalité des fonds collectés lors de la vente aux enchères soutiendra les programmes de vaccination dans une des régions les plus dévastées par des conflits meurtriers. Soit aujourd’hui, 4,7 millions de personnes, dont 2,2 millions d’enfants affectées. Grâce à l’opération Frimousses de Créateurs sous l’égide de Laeticia Hallyday, Marraine de l’Unicef France, l’Unicef se bat tous les ans pour la vaccination des enfants dans la région du Darfour. Car la vaccination est un moyen très efficace et peu couteux de prévenir et d’éradiquer les maladies invalidantes meurtrières dès le plus jeune âge (diphtérie, tétanos, coqueluche, poliomyélite, rougeole). L’édition Frimousses de Créateurs 2008 a permis d’envoyer sur le terrain 219 130 € pour financer les activités de vaccination en urgence. 260 000 enfants et 198 000 femmes enceintes recevront des vaccins. Una cosa que nos ha llamado la atención al mirar las nuevas colecciones de novia es el protagonismo que han adquirido esta temporada las flores. Bien como adornos y detalles, bien como parte indisoluble al tejido, las flores están por todas partes. ¿No os lo creeis? Mirad, mirad. 

El ejemplo por antonomasia es este vestido de Rosa Clará que ya nos sorprendió en Gaudí Novias. El cuerpo del vestido es una gran flor mientras que la falda de maxi vuelo también está revestida de flores (pinchad sobre la imagen para verla más grande si no lo captais bien en el tamaño medio).

Algo más sutil con el juego de flores es este modelo de Victorio & Lucchino 2o1o. Aquí las flores son como pequeñas enredaderas que subenpor la falda y se apoderan de cuerpo y mangas del vestido. El detalle de las mangas transparentes es todo un acierto.

Los modelos de Rosa Clará son los que más abusan de las flores (la temporada pasada ya las incluían en algún modelo). Aquí tenemos dos ejemplos que lo corroboran. En el vestido de la izquierda las flores que revisten la capa superior del traje se complementan con el tirante avolantado (¿o son también flores?). Mientras, el segundo está hecho con un tejido a base prácticamente de lo que simulan pétalos.

En Manuel Mota 2010 también encontramos varios modelos de explosión floral. En el de la imagen las flores son un adorno más para el tejido, como pudiese ser el encaje. En el pecho son muy tupidas y luego caen algunas líneas de ellas por la falda completando el dibujo con otros pequeños pliegues avolantados haciendo formas geométricas.

 Dos opciones de escote geométrico. El de la izquierda, de Manuel Mota 2010, decora manga y cuerpo con flores vaporosas. El de la derecha, de Franc Sarabia 2010, apuesta por tupir de flores el cuerpo y la manga y dejar una falda que cae separada por un cinturón de pedrería.

Las ‘ninfas vaporosas’ de Victorio & Lucchino 2010, como las llamamos hace un par de posts, también dejan que se cuelen las flores (acuáticas). En este elegante vestido, su presencia es sutil con el bordado en oro de unos nenúfares en la falda.

Si vas a ir de corto no tienes por qué renunciar a las flores. Pepe Botella 2010 te da la solución.

Más opciones de cuerpos decorados con flores, tanto en palabra de honor como con manguita romántica. Las dos propuestas son de la colección 2010 de Manuel Mota.

En Jesús Peiró 2010 hemos visto este modelo Izquierda) con una única y extra grande flor en el pecho. No hay por qué ir sobrecargada…. Otra opción es la flor en el tirante, como propone Manuel Mota.

Hacemos hueco nuevamente a Christian Lacroix para Rosa Clará (una debilidad) porque estas mangas se merecen aparecer en este post. Los detalles rosas las hacen especialmente bonitas. 

Si os quedais con ganas de más, o por el contrario sólo quereis poner el detalle floral sobre vuestra cabeza, echad un vistazo a la colección de tocados de novia de Nila Taranco. A nosotros nos han gustado especialmente estos:

Un tocado sencillo con redecilla.

Orquídeas y un toque de color.

Por último, otra debilidad o flechazo instantáneo… ¿cómo no ibamos a incluir este tocado del que se ha quedado prendado hasta la mariposa del broche?

I was reading up on this week’s auction of the contents of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s country home. I was even gonna make a post about it so I was looking for images to illustrate my meanderings.

Anyway, Google Image Search reminded me that the Saint Laurent logo graces cigarettes in Europe. Not only can you get YSL’s you can get Cartier cigarettes as well. I know smoking is not good, but it looks cool.

Did you know that at some point Pierre Cardin, Givenchy, Versace and Christian Lacroix have leant their name to ciggies?

I am telling you because I feel the need to justify the time I spent in the rabbit hole of typing “designer name” + “Cigarettes” into Google Search

Christian Lacroix is one of the most brilliant designers to ever live.  He is often referred to as “the colorist” or “the color designer” for his keen ability to manipulate hues. 

As of today the house no longer exists.  Lacroix created the most breath taking dresses but was unable to sale them in a tough economy.  The company that funded his house filed for bankruptcy and Lacroix’s last couture show was in July of this year. 

There is hope – a few companies have stepped forward to save the Lacroix house as it has been a cultural icon for over 20 years.  Hopefully Lacroix can continue to create his beautiful frocks. 

Highlights from the fall and spring 2009 couture collections:

Seguro que has oído un millón de veces que las bodas de invierno son las más elegantes. Sin embargo, uno de los temas más complicados de casarse en esta época del año es encontrar un vestido adecuado. Palabras de honor, escotes de espalda, mini tirantes… son las líneas dominantes en las colecciones nupciales. Pero no las únicas y nosotras hemos buscado para ti las opciones más abrigadas. ¡No te congeles en tu boda!

-Opción clásica: colecciones como Pronovias o Manuel Mota siempre suelen incluir algún modelo más clásico y ‘tapado’. Son modelos de líneas sencillas y telas rígidas, perfectos para las más tradicionales.

Una de las opciones que más nos ha gustado dentro de esta línea sobria y regia es este modelo de Jesús Peiró 2010. El cuello barco y las mangas tres-cuartos lo hacen resistente al frío y el cinturón-joya y la original cola le dan un aire diferente dentro del clasicismo.

Rosa Clará 2010 también aporta su granito de arena para las novias más frioleras con algunos modelos como este, de auténtica princesa medieval con pedrería en cuello y mangas.

En Pronovias y Manuel Mota hay varias opciones, aunque la verdad bastante insustanciales. En la colección de Valentino Sposa para Pronovias, sin embargo, nos ha llamado la atención este modelo, muy sencillo pero con un toque de originalidad.

Otra opción sobria pero elegante sacada de Rosa Clará 2010.

-Líneas vaporosas: Que la boda sea en invierno tampoco significa que tengas que escoger obligatoriamente un tejido más duro. Los vestidos ligeros quedan perfecto también si se acompañan de una chaquetita o estola blanca (de piel) para la ceremonia. Durante la celebración seguro que ya hará más calor…

¿Quién no se enamoró el año pasado del vestido que lució María Palacios en su boda con Lecquio? En entubodamecole incluso dimos algunas ideas para copiar su estilismo y encontramos modelos bastante parecidos. Este año Rosa Clará, diseñadora del modelo, incluye en su colección un modelo gemelo pero en color blanco en lugar del violáceo que lució Palacios. Hasta incluye el detalle de que las mangas largas se pueden poner y quitar en cualquier momento.

También Rosa Clará, pero en la colección de Jesús del Pozo 2010, encontramos este diseño, muy sencillo y con aire de bailarina.

¿Quién dijo sobriedad? Christian Lacroix diseña para Rosa Clará este modelo de mangas muy abullonadas y maxi lazo a la cintura. No todo el mundo es capaz de llevar este vestido con estilo pero quien lo consiga triunfa seguro.

Siéntete como la Reina de las Nieves con este modelo de Pronovias.

- Encaje al por mayor: Por supuesto, el encaje no está reñido con el invierno y encontramos varios modelos con el mismo fin de no pasar frío.

Valentino Sposa propone para Pronovias esta opción de manga tres cuartos y un encaje decorado muy elegante.

También se rinde al encaje Elie Saab en varios de los vestidos que ha diseñado para Pronovias. Éste es uno de nuestros favoritos con la transparencia en escote y brazos.

Vale, no es la opción más abrigada pero seguro que con una capita de piel no te entrará nada de frío. Este otro modelo de Elie Saab también nos ha dado en nuestro corazoncito, la forma de las mangas es preciosa…. así que se ha ganado a pulso ser incluida en este especial mangas….

Dita Von Teese covers the Russian Issue of Harper’s Bazaar in December. The burlesque star claims that she doesn’t have a stylist and does her own hair and make-up at home, if thats the case im in love, she looks AMAZING on the cover, shot by Marcin Tyszka it reminds me of demure Snow White; pictured in a Christian Lacroix couture gown, I still find it very hard to believe she was married to Marilyn Manson before. Wow.

Evian continues to test our thirst for fashion.

This year, they’ve partnered with British designer, Paul Smith, to launch a limited edition bottle.

It’s on sale this month and available at restaurants, retailers and online.

The annual Evian designer bottle tradition began in 2008 with a limited edition bottle designed by Christian Lacroix, followed in 2009 with Jean Paul Gaultier.

Comme pendant chaque changement de saison, j’aime penser à ce qu’il me plairait de porter ces prochains mois. Par contre, je ne sais pas si ce sont les fêtes et leurs tentations qui approchent, le manque de choses à mon goût en magasins, la frustration occasionnée par le “régime Loub” depuis cet été (= pas d’achats à moins de revendre, histoire de n’investir que dans de belles chaussures) ou encore le manque de temps, mais j’ai du mal à concrétiser mes envies esthético-vestimentaires du moment… A défaut de les montrer portées, j’en partage ce soir avec vous les inspirations, pour le plaisir des yeux – et en espérant pouvoir en livrer très vite des réinterprétations “tirées des fonds de placard”!

- Des matières et couleurs précieuses. Les premières sont un peu une constante, soie, lainage, cachemire, angora, j’essaie depuis déjà quelques temps de bannir les synthétiques; j’y ajouterais aussi des plumes, broderies, strass, fourrures, en détails le jour, en profusion la nuit… Les secondes se promènent dans la gamme de la joaillerie ancienne : bronzes, rouges rubis, verts émeraudes, vert-de-gris, ors… J’aime les images et associations qui évoquent des bijoux anciens, patinés par le temps, qu’on ne trouverait que dans des trésors de famille ou au hasard d’une brocante, mis en scène dans des ambiances boudoir ou carte postale début de siècle…

- Des noirs profonds, façon Belle-Epoque, relevés encore par une touche de “luxe” : brocards contrastés, empiècements ou broderies d’or, fourrure moelleuse et douce… Les plissés reviennent aussi régulièrement :

- Au moins une nouvelle tenue d’inspiration masculine; les variations fantaisie sont les bienvenues, comme les deux “héroïnes manga” des côtés droits…

- Remettre des chapeaux. J’ai passé l’été à l’abri du soleil, en tenues légères, et il était déjà temps de retourner à la fac, en se dépêchant le matin et en évitant les extravagances superflues. Mais les bibis me manquent, surtout depuis l’exposition années 40 qui en présentait de toutes sortes, et aussi à cause d’une élégante demoiselle chapeautée de plumes et plumetis, à Paris…

J’ai déjà ressorti les bérets, je pense customiser quelques vieux fedoras pour les féminiser :

- Une (très) (grosse) influence orientale : empiècements origamis, manches kimono, couleurs riches en associations inhabituelles, motifs floraux, broderies précieuses, bijoux de cheveux…

Au programme : des matières douillettes et précieuses, des jeux de textures, de la fourrure, du plumetis aux jambes ou devant les yeux, des ors, des bronzes, toutes sortes de verts et de rouilles, des teintes assourdies mais en associations éclatantes, un peu d’élégance épurée des années 40 d’un côté, un peu d’extravagance orientale de l’autre… Certains éléments peuvent paraître contradictoire, mais dans mon imagination c’est très clair!

Trouvés :

- des gants au poignet de fourrure bien touffu!

- une veste chinoisante, dans le tissu (un brocard satiné rouge) et dans la coupe.

A faire :

- un tri de mes chapeaux; certains seront mis à la vente. Dans le même rayon, décorer quelques vieux fedoras défraîchis…

- décorer des bas de perles et de rubans.

- (essayer de) coudre quelques jupes amples : priorité aux tissus précieux noirs, et aux tissus à motifs baroques ou contrastants.

- demander à ma couturière de réaliser une veste mi-longue à la coupe épurée, mais dans un tissu orné de fleurs de cerisier contrastantes. L’inspiration? Celui porté par les soeurs siamoises dans la dernière scène de “Big Fish”…

- rallonger mon manteau de soirée en brocard rouge un peu trop court avec un large galon de fourrure. Peut-être réaliser un col assorti…

- pour le soir, coudre une surjupe de tulle noir, décorée de bandes de dentelle ou de roses en tissu pour jouer sur les transparences – sur l’idée de la robe de Madeleine Vionnet, et dans l’esprit aussi de ce défilé Dior…

Marc Jacobs ended the season at Louis Vuitton in Paris as he began it with his own show in New York: with the eighties. This slice of the late eighties—ruffled, ruched, and poufed as it was—looked as if Jacobs had pulled out his 1987 magazines and worked up a playful homage to Christian Lacroix. Jacobs’ rich accessory fest was filled with leather necklaces and belts came fashioned like paper chains, and thigh boots were topped with ruffles and balanced on pearl and glitter-covered heels.
