In recent months, the Catholic Church has produced a sulfuric trifecta of moral corruptness leaving a taste in one’s mouth that, in the most euphemistic of terms, can be described wholly unpalatable.

First, there were the verbal fisticuffs between Rep Patrick Kennedy and Lord Voldemort Bishop Tobin, which went something like this:

Kennedy: I support safe, medical procedures for everyone, especially with this shiny new Health Care Bill.

Tobin: Listen Fetus-Slayer-Supporter, you’re a terrible excuse for a Catholic. Don’t receive Communion, the most important part of the Catholic Mass. I award you no points, and may God have Mercy on your soul.

Then, Washington, DC’s diocese threatened to discontinue its social service programs if DC legalizes same-sex marriages.

Finally, RI Governor Sauron Don Carcieri vetoed a bill which would have allowed domestic partners, both gay and straight, to plan their partner’s funeral.

Epic spit take! These men who claim to follow the words and teachings of Jesus Christ make Christopher Hitchens look like Simon the Zealot!

Starting tomorrow, I will post my own meditations on the Gospels in which I will try to get at the heart of their meaning, plumb the depths of their relevance in today’s world, and try to give real Christians some reprieve.

One of my most recent and sustained developing interests has been in the area of economics. More and more I have found issues in this realm to thoroughly occupy my mind, especially when it comes to addressing the needs of the poor. From a Christian perspective this no doubt takes a slightly different route than it would among non-Christian economists because my concern is fundamentally driven from a believe and understanding about the created order whereas a secularist approach probably comes from a simple desire to achieve balance in a presently extremely unbalanced world. I make no apologies for the direction I choose and my commentary will be fused with my Christian belief.

All the same the observations I make refer to secular as well as Christian responses to the present economic challenge (as well as response to the Western economy in general). This is because, unsurprisingly, across the board there seems to be a dissatisfaction with the way things are and a persuasion that things need to change. This finds voice especially in the outcries expressed through the media at huge bonuses handed to bankers, and at the swindling of expenses by MPs. Enough commentary has probably been done on WordPress alone to fill several volumes and so I do not intend to make further judgment on these matters here, I simply point to them to indicate the attitude that permeates public opinion.

Most recently I have noticed a book entitled Prosperity Without Growth: Economics for a Finite Planet by Tim Jackson – which, incidentally, I came across by flicking through a copy of the Big Issue. It seemed appropriate that an article about this book appeared in a magazine sold to help support the homeless and those hard-done-by. I haven’t really noticed what the general thrust of the publication is before but this has made me somewhat penitent of my usual attitude of buying a copy if I want to “be nice” to the Big Issue man, then throwing it away when I next get it out of my bag (confession time).

I may read the book. It seems to do what it says on the tin, and according to reviews doesn’t seem to do too bad a job of it, perhaps weighing in a little heavier on the diagnosis than on the proposed solutions. What has also interested me ever since about this time last year, is Christian response to the economic situation in light of the Bible. Of particular note among recent efforts to outwork Christian principles within a secular economy is that of Kim Tan, author of the recently published The Jubilee Gospel (which I am presently reading), who has had some sort of key role in the establishment of what is known as the Transformational Business Network which seeks to work in the developing world not through the means of aid, but rather through the means of resourcing and supporting enterprises in those countries so that they can begin to have their own sustainable economic environments which they will be able to operate themselves. A quick survey of their website(http://www.tbnetwork.org/home/index.php?flag1=1) seems to show that they are doing rather well.

I don’t doubt that this sort of move would begin a process which could radically reshape the global economy. Perhaps my view is over-simplistic, but it seems that where we have “developed” countries (which operate with a centralised system) providing largely only aid to “developing” nations, the latter will in a way also be subject to the moving and shaking that goes on in the centralised systems of the nations that are providing that aid. However, if you empower that country to begin to operate sustainably under its own economic model and terms, you withdraw its dependency on the former, monolithic systems which, as we’ve seen over the last year, are no less susceptible to damage for all their size.

I also have in my list of books to read a book by Kim Tan and Brian Griffiths called Fighting Poverty Through Enterprise: The case for Social Venture Capital which (from my brief glance) fairly straightforwardly outlines the purpose behind the Transformational Business Network through an analysis of present-day statistics and case studies.

If you’re wondering where this present argument is leading, the answer may be “not very far” at this stage because, as you can see, I have a fair bit of reading to do. I’m also not an economist and so all the reading I can do can only stretch as far as my spare time and my understanding will allow. However my heart is deeply interested for the sake of the poor and those who have suffered as the rich have got richer. Having had my own share of financial pressures in my time – pressures which were comparably microscopic compared to those of many who struggle in this nation alone – I have seen enough to be concerned that the treacherous imbalance of society (which as we know is not purely economical but also social) might somehow begin to be turned on its head through whatever means we might have within our grasp.

I was challenged earlier today when another man from church was sharing with a group of men that were gathered for breakfast, from Romans 12, and verse 18 where Paul exhorts “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” (NASB) Maybe it was the way he said it, but suddenly the words “if possible” rang out with new meaning and emphasis: if there is any remote chance, any slim possibility that I can see in a situation, for peace to be brought into it and lived in, then I should work to achieve that peace. And if you know anything about the Bible and the way that Jews thought from way back, “peace” would not merely have been about being friendly; the term shabbat which we know as “Sabbath”, together with the idea of shalom,  encompassed ideas of social, economic and spiritual peace and rest – a holistic peace which touched every area of human experience.

So this is what I’m going after. I’m interested also in the Jubilee as a concept in which, essentially, a national but de-centralised (or rather non-centralised as it was never central in the first place) economic system which allowed for growth and development was nevertheless “capped” and kept from growing out of control, through the regular redistribution of wealth through the cancellation of debts and restoration of property to original owners. In it too was fundamentally written the idea of rest with each Jubilee year being prescribed as a year of rest (which of course would have happened alongside the usual Sabbath years – a year of rest every seven years – also prescribed for the nation). As a whole economic model now it is obviously impossible to introduce, but its values and principles could and, according to the conviction of Kim Tan and others, do still prove to be useful.

So, apologies for the inept conclusion to this present discourse. Watch this space, as I shall hopefully keep my blog updated from time to time with my findings and feelings about this whole issue. Ultimately what I hope to achieve is to find some new and creative ways in which Christians (well and any concerned citizen) can seriously get involved in this activity of redressing the balance for the good of humanity.

(Nov. 23) — As Americans gear up for the holiday season, they’re fine-tuning wish lists, digging out unfortunate Christmas sweaters and bracing for the onslaught of holiday advertising campaigns.

This year adds a new contender to the long list of groups vying for attention, and it comes with a twist. The American Humanist Association today launched its first nationwide “godless holiday campaign.” Its slogan: “No God? … No Problem!”

The ads, which show smiling people in Santa hats, will appear first on Washington, D.C., buses and subway trains over Thanksgiving weekend. In early December the campaign will expand to Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Chicago.

Humanism is a philosophy that says people don’t need the framework of an organized religion or belief in a supernatural deity to live morally. Humanists believe people should lead their lives in a way that benefits society at large.

Or, as some of the ads put it: “Be Good for Goodness’ Sake.”

The American Humanist Association, based in Washington, D.C., promotes humanism and advocates for a secular government. Executive Director Roy Speckhardt said one purpose of the ad campaign is to build awareness of the humanist movement among people who don’t already belong to a specific religion.

“We want to change the way people think and talk about nontheists, and to pave the way for acceptance of humanism as a valid and positive philosophy of life,” he said in a statement.

Similar ads have appeared in the United States before, and not without controversy.

Earlier this month, a Cincinnati billboard sponsored by the United Coalition of Reason was taken down after the billboard company received threats. The ad showed a blue sky with white clouds and the words, “Don’t believe in God? You are not alone.” It was later put up at a different location.

A similar story played out earlier this year in Iowa when ads sponsored by the Iowa Atheists & Freethinkers were temporarily removed from Des Moines buses after the transit authority got complaints.

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority said it based its decision on an agency policy against allowing the word “God” in promotional materials. The ads were later put back up.

Speckhardt said he hopes the godless holiday campaign reaches people who fear prejudice because they do not belong to a traditional faith.

It’s a group that’s rapidly expanding. In 2008, one in five people in the U.S. did not claim a religious identity, according to a survey conducted by Trinity College.

“The challenge to Christianity in the U.S. does not come from other religions but rather from a rejection of all forms of organized religion,” according to the survey’s Web site.

Humanists are not out to cause a stir with their ads, Speckhardt said. “Of course, it’s obvious that many people are also good with a belief in God. So I hope we can all find common ground.”

Today’s suggestion is to support what is basically the freedom of the press and/or personal expression via the written word especially.

Anyone who has followed my Blogs would know that there have been cases where a Blogger has been imprisoned for his/her views. This has been so of Christians in Islamic countries for example.

Supporting the right of expression via the written word is something I do via my Blogs. I report news of Christian Bloggers and those who witness for Christ that are persecuted.

Isn’t love keeping God’s commandments?

“If you love me, keep my commandments. Blessed is he that keeps my commandments, and teaches men likewise; but cursed is he that breaks my commandments, and teaches men likewise. He shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven.”

If keeping God’s commandments is the essential factor in love and loving God,then it is central to God’s salvation plan; and if the Jews reject the false Jesus being presented by the Roman controlled Gentile Churches, and keep God’s commandments, they believe in Jesus and are saved, even though they don’t know it.

It is not essential to say I believe in Jesus; but it is essential to do it…  I will show you my faith by what I do, said James the apostle!  It is the works of charity that fulfill all the commandments and the prophets.  Love is being your brother’s keeper.  If your brother comes to you naked and destitute and you do not give him his daily needs, your religion is worthless.

I don’t care what name you claim to believe; that’s the bottom line!  Jews don’t have to learn to care for others, they are doing it, but just look at the mess the Gentiles have made in the world.  Those are their brothers and sisters who are poor and homeless.

Where are the billionaire Gentile Christian Churches?  Take a trip to Israel.  I defy you to find homeless in the streets.  Don’t worry about the Jews being saved, worry about the Gentile Christians and their converted blind Messianic Jews!!!

My advice to you Jews, who struggle with whether Christianity is right or wrong, forget it, search your Bibles to see how to live your lives in peace with the world and your brothers.

My advice to you Gentiles, whether you are Christians or not, is to leave the Jews alone, and raise up your Messianic converts to teacher status.  Then listen to them or get ready to receive your consequences, which is the only reason Jesus is coming.

My advice to you Messianic Jews, who are sure that God called you out from amongst your nation Israel to become a bridge to the Gentile world:  Your sole purpose is to bring salvation to the Gentiles, and not the other way around.  Wake-up from the hypnotic spell the Romans have cast upon you, by using sorcery, intrigue, and murder.

The Gentiles have stolen our Jewish heritage, which is the kingdom of God Jesus brought to Israel.  Your Jewish Messiah Jesus, your Jewish Bible, and the good news Jews possess, have been taken from you by the Gentiles who have trampled them under their feet.  They are the thieves that have stolen your rightful heritage.  Leave the non-Christianized Jews alone.

My advice to Gentiles, who are neither Christians nor Jews, is to give up the lies pushed upon you by your perverted religious leaders and get the truth directly from your Bibles, concerning your fellow man and how to love God.  When you hate anybody on this planet, you’ve crossed over the only boundary God placed around the heathen.

For not all Israel is of Israel; neither are all Christians of Jesus.  For it is not whom you follow, or what you say you believe that will save you; but what you do that will save you!

Great change is occurring and will continue in both the Church of Jesus Christ and the world in general.   Change that will produce increasing light for the Church and increasing darkness for those not in pursuit of Jesus (Isaiah 60.1-3).   We are entering a season that could be described as the “Decade of A-ha! “ (this is how it was spoken to me).  The inference here is that it will be a time of mysteries being revealed.

I find it interesting that man has been created with a capacity to be fascinated by mysteries.  People speak of the “mysteries of the universe”, and there are plenty of television programs dedicated to probing “unsolved mysteries” and there is even a genre of literature known as “Mystery”.  God has created us with a longing to peer into a mystery and the desire for the discovery or the unveiling.  In a mystery novel the very moment that the mystery is revealed is called the “A-ha” moment; when in an instant what has been hidden is made known and everything suddenly becomes clear.  

As we arrive at 2010, the new decade will bring some inventions that will be important for humanity.   The most notable coming inventions will be the result of “crushing necessity”.  In other words the difficult days ahead will produce an environment ripe for invention and discovery.  Some of these having been worked on and pursued for years with no success will seem to be suddenly unveiled to the inventor.  The various fields within science and medicine will have great discoveries; innovative technologies and inventions will increase – I believe that there will be an emphasis on transportation.  A popular quote is “necessity is the mother of all invention.”  This will certainly prove true in the coming decade.

But most important are the mysteries that will be revealed to the portion of the Church desiring more of God.   The Lord will grant that the veil be lifted off of some mysteries (even a profound mystery) that have been hidden from the ages until this appointed time.  Fresh light and revelation will come on portions of scripture that will cause us to realize that we’ve never truly seen the fullness of truth hidden there (the A-ha! moment).  Specifically, I believe the Lord highlighted Ephesians 5.31,32 regarding Christ and His Church becoming one flesh, this mystery is said to be profound.  An understanding of this truth that the Church has never walked in will be granted in order to move Her into the place of manifesting that truth.  This will bring needed maturity to the Bride of Christ so that she will begin walking in the full measure of Christ (Ephesians 4.13).   As well, I believe there is a coming revealing of the mystery regarding that “we will not all sleep”  (1 Corinthians 15.51) ; so that greater understanding will be given regarding that truth, to give opportunity to begin engaging our faith in that regard.

Jesus would speak with the crowds only in parables, therefore speaking as in a mystery.  But only when He was alone with his disciples would He remove the veil and give them the understanding into the mystery (Mark 4.34).  In the same way today’s disciples of Jesus will have to “get alone with Him” in the place of intimacy, to receive these revelations into the mysteries that will remain hidden from “the crowds”.  He doesn’t reveal His mysteries to casual followers, only His “disciples”. 

By the end of this coming decade His disciples will have a more “normal vision” of Jesus as they have welcomed greater understanding into mysteries of God that have been opened to them.  This proper vision also will come as they fix their gaze on Jesus in response to the “crushing necessity” of the difficult times ahead.  The fuzzy vision that we now have entering this season will become clearer and clearer as we go through the decade.  Jesus is helping us as He perfects our faith – that time is getting nearer where our faith will have vision.

The FRC called for President Obama to discuss the persecution of Christians in India with the Indian Prime Minister who visited this week and attended the State Dinner.  The group also reported on findings from a recent GSS survey arguing that the survey “shows that adults who attend religious services at least weekly are more likely to believe in the importance of having their own children than those who worship less frequently.”

The story is familiar to Jews, Christians and Muslims; the prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, was asked by God to make the ultimate sacrifice, his beloved son, though perhaps disagreeing on which son Abraham was asked to surrender, the meaning of this account doesn’t change. Who could make such a sacrifice, when we’d give everything for our children? Abraham dearly loved both his sons and their mothers, he surely would not have wanted to harm either of them in any way or form. To understand this account, we need to look beyond the worldly veils disguising it’s true meaning. Everything that manifests in the physical world begins with an intention, a beginning within a person’s heart.

Please enjoy your turkey flavored cookie with a scene from the original Thanksgiving.

This cookie features the traditional however unnatural Thanksgiving pairing of the pilgrim and the turkey, waiting to be married by the town’s parson.  The male townsfolk had burned all the woman as witches and were quite happy with the new arrangement.  So much so that they created this sugar etching as a document to signify the event.

As time passed and the relationships soured, the turkeys started giving the pilgrim men much lip for not cleaning around the house or shining their shiny shoe belt buckles etc.  As a result the pilgrims went apeshit and burned them all at the stake.  In the meantime someone went ahead and ordered more woman from England, agreeing that burning turkeys was better than burning people.  Also better tasting.  This started the traditions of mail order brides and pimping in what has come to be known as “capitalism.”  This also explains the weird pimp like dress favored by pilgrim men in what has come to be known as ”transvestism.”  All of these elements came together to form the first Thanksgiving and the founding of our nation!

Note the strong pimp hand.  The hand has been used to straighten out any bitch or nation that’s had the nerve to give us some lip for generations.  Turkey or otherwise (also the origin of the phrase “Jive Turkey!” Wherein a turkey or nation has the nerve to give us some “Jive!” meaning talking much junk without warrant). Yes the pimp hand is a step down from the burning but it does remain an option.  Just in case.  It can come in handy when dealing with international incidents. Or jive turkeys.

Nothing’s changed… besides it’s better than what the Gentiles are going to receive for doing it wrong, if that’s any consolation.  It’s the only role on earth that guarantees salvation.  Whereas, you Gentile Christians had better make sure your act is the right one, for the same guy that you claim to follow, said:  The Jews that fall over me shall be broken, but the Gentiles whom I shall fall upon shall be pulverized into dust.

What is dust, is dead; but what is broken can be healed.  Christian Jews have a very special gift from God to help the Gentiles believe the truth about Jesus, but don’t expect to be thanked for doing it.  Rather than worry about people hating you for doing God’s work, prepare yourselves for the slaughter.

Now, if Jews are sent to help the deceived Gentiles believe the truth about Jesus (the gospel), then there must be lies about Jesus; and if all the people who claim to believe in Jesus, and God, and the Bible, cannot find a lie about Jesus, it’s because they are the liars!  For salvation is of the Jews! Otherwise, Jesus was the liar!  And you Gentiles are following Him in vain!

If the Messianic Jews hide their talent your Father in heaven gave you, which is the ability to teach the truth about God and Jesus, you will be treated just like the Gentiles when Jesus comes, because you were sent to save them.  This is why the prophet Ezekiel said, If you see a man erring and you do not correct him, and he dies in his sin, you are guilty of his blood; but if you tell him to correct his error, and he dies in his sin, you are blood guiltless (not guilty).

Therefore, your own Jewish families, who think you are nuts, will be much better off than you on Judgment Day.  Each of you Jews has to learn respect for the other, which is love.

The Jew called to work for the Messiah in Christianity is not wrong, but is misguided until they give up the Roman lie that Jesus is God and the Scriptures will heal them.  The non-Christian Jews are called by the same God to reject the false Messiah of the Gentiles that is now presented to the world, even though they are using Jesus’ real name.

The Jews will be saved by their faith in keeping the commandments in their Bible; while the Messianic Jews will only be saved if they keep the commandments in the whole Bible and accept the truth about God the Father and Jesus the Son.  Messianic Jews and Gentile Christians must prove their faith by keeping God’s commandments.  Therefore both sides of the Jewish question will be saved by faith.  For the just live by faith.

The time has come for each of you to learn you are two parts to the same plan of God, which is why the book of Revelation Chapter 11 speaks about two olive trees.  An olive tree in the scriptures represents Israel or the Jews, and the Bible is telling us there are two parts of Israel.  One Jew is called to represent the Messiah Jesus for the Gentiles and the truth about Jesus and God, who are actually our long lost brothers known as the ten lost tribes of Israel.

The Church of Jesus is for Jews only!  Jesus threw the doors of Judaism open to all Men, because the Jews had made their religion a private club.  When God had intended them to proselytize the whole human race.  Jesus commanded the Apostles to search for the lost sheep of Israel.

Yes, the lost ten tribes of Israel, who were scattered amongst all the nations over three thousand years ago, were recalled back to Israel.  God called them out of the East, the West, the North, and the South, long before the Diaspora when Rome scattered the Jews of Jesus’ time around the Roman empire.

The Jews of today are from the three unlost tribes of Israel.  The ten lost tribes were Israelites, Jews if you will.  They are they who know His voice and follow Him.  The regathered lost tribes do not know they are the lost Israelites.

Thousands of years have separated them from the knowledge of their forefathers and from their God of Israel.  Yet, God had a plan for them prophesied in the Old Testament.  God did not forget them.  He just punished them for worshipping idols; but He promised to deliver them from the hands of Pagans who mistreat them.  He promised to gather them out of the east and the west, and from the north and south, into a new land.

This is a mystery I show you… the church!  It is the gathering of the children of God back to Israel into a new land called America.  Therefore the Jews called to work for Jesus are supposed to be gathering the lost Israelites back unto the Father.  The problem is the converted Messianic Jews don’t know it.  You are the kings and priests promised to reign with the Lord; but the Gentiles have robbed us of our heritage; and have made us believe we Jews must join them.

No! No! No!  Christianity is a Jewish religion and God was merciful enough to allow Gentile heathens to join us.  For salvation is of the Jews! Not the Gentiles!  Wake-up Jews!  The Thieves, who have taken God’s kingdom by force, have set the Jewish people against each other.  Don’t fall victim to the Gentiles.  Unite in love and judge not your brother.  For if you love your brother, you know God; but if you hate your brother whom you can see, how can you say you love God, whom you cannot see?  Liar!  You walk in the darkness even now, but you Jews are not the children of darkness, but the children of the light.
