<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Popsquire is happy to report that <strong>four celebs</strong> <strong>gave birth today</strong> &#8212; Christina Aguilera, <a href="http://popsquire.wordpress.com/2008/01/11/nicole-richie-has-newborn-news/" title="Nicole Richie">Nicole Richie</a>, Courtney Thorne Smith, and David Alan Grier&#8217;s wife.  Congrats to all! </p>
<p>Not that any of these people likely have to worry about the cost of insurance or hospital stays, but Popsquire still likes to remind people of their <strong>rights</strong> and, of course, the constant <strong>collision between pop culture and law</strong>&#8230;</p>
<blockquote><p>The <strong>Newborns&#8217; and Mothers&#8217; Health Protection Act of 1996</strong> (NMHPA) was enacted on September 26, 1996 to provide protections for mothers and their newborns with regard to <strong>hospital lengths of stay following childbirth</strong>.  </p>
<p>NMHPA generally requires certain group health plans to provide a new mother with no less than <strong>48 hours</strong> of hospital stay following a vaginal delivery or no less than <strong>96 hours</strong> following a delivery by cesarean section. </p></blockquote>
