Adam Lambert’s music video for his single “For Your Entertainment” has been releas

Adam Lambert’s music video for his single “For Your Entertainment” has been released.

The video is exactly what I mean when I say Adam is boring.

The video centers around an underground world of dark sexuality.

Of course what imagery do they use to symbolize dangerous sexuality – Eve.

How do I say this? Using Eve is common, banal, cliche, humdrum, insipid, – or however you want to say it.

Not to mention here is Lambert on the cover of Rolling Stone from June 2009 – get a new snake gimmick.

Eve imagery is the most overused fallback in pop music.

Probably the most iconic Eve embodiment is Britney Spears at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards.

Aalyiah also works the snake in “We Need a Resolution.”

Destiny’s Child wanders around the forest in skimpy outfits for “Survivor.”

Jennifer Lopez also evokes natural, animalistic sex appeal in “Waiting for Tonight” – which reminds me an awful lot like “For Your Entertainment.”

And if you want to talk about music videos about underground “Dirrty” sex, look no further than Christina Aguilera,

or Lady Gaga’s “Love Game.”

Britney Spears’s “If U Seek Amy” is a personal favorite since it plays on the idea that a good woman should be a hyper-sexual in the home but wholesome out in the public sphere. Because really the only thing better than Eve imagery is the use of the virgin/whore dichotomy – i.e. what made Britney a millionaire.

To a lesser degree there is also Janet Jackson’s “All Nite,”

Rihanna’s “Disturbia,”

Justin Timberlake’s Sexyback,”

Enrique Iglesias’s “Tired of Being Sorry,”

Lindsay Lohan in a club, locked in a cage in her “Rumors” video,

and the end of Madonna’s “Hung Up”

LASTLY – Adam’s song sounds an awful lot like Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold.” And Sparro works a cane much better than Adam in his video. Watch Sam’s video here.

Come on Adam – give me something new, give me something interesting.

So, me and Christina are sort of friends now I guess. I mean some days we act like friends and then others we can barely stand to even speak with one another. It’s weird because every sense the falling out of Caity’s and mine friendship it seems as though me and her have become default best friends, if there is such a thing. I don’t know its complicated, our friendship I mean. Over the course of the last two years, we have done some pretty horrible things to one another, so it’s hard to think of us as friends, but yet talk about to much stuff to really be enemies. So I guess we are fri-emies, friends some days, enemies others. I never really thought there could actually be such a thing until I realized that’s what me and her are. Or at least the only thing that would make sense.

Anyways, the latest annoying thing she has done, is go back to Dustin. Knowing full well not only what he did to her, but what he did to me. It’s like she wants to be hurt again and again. I don’t know why someone would want that but it’s the only thing that would explain her actions as of late, other than just pure insanity.

In the past month and a half she has taken back every ex-boyfriend she has had since age 16. Which you will just have to believe me when I say it’s at least three times as many as I have had in my whole life. It’s totally weird. She has this constant want to be happy, to find ever lasting happiness, and yet she wants it to be with guys who have hurt her at least once before, if not many many times.

I guess in a whole lot of ways I may never actually understand her. I’m trying to be the good friend and just give advice and not try to swing her one way or the other. But its hard to not just be my bluntly honest self and just say “you’re freaking nuts, you have to stop this.”

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

I never really understood, and never believed, this verse. I always thought God was The Righteous One and that I have no business saying that I am even close to righteous. I believed myself unworthy to think such things. I’ve finally realized that righteous is how God sees me!

‘Righteous’ means morally justified, free from sin or guilt, holy, pure, upright, virtuous. The Law, in man’s eyes, was created to reach righteousness (and heaven), and sacrifices were given on the altar to God as payment for sin and not following the Law. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice so that the Law is no longer needed to make us righteous. Christ died so the spirits of those who believe in Him are made right, morally justified, and free from sin or guilt.

I like the “free from guilt” definition of because this helps me understand that sin is of the world and not of my perfected spirit; therefore, sinning should not produce guilt because of God’s amazing grace we are free from the bondage that sin creates.

I know I will continue to sin because my body and soul (mind, emotions) are still in the world and full of sin. This will never change. However, our spirits, through the Holy Spirit and gift of salvation, are perfect, justified, and blameless.

As we grow in our faith and continue to become intimate with God, our spirits continually change and grow so that our mind and bodies reflect Christ’s image. We will never reach natural perfection but Jesus died so that our spirits made perfect in his death will be with Him from now until eternity.

Righteousness cannot be worked for or earned in any way because it was a gift. This is the simple and beautiful truth of the Gospel.

Blessings,

The trendy streets of Vancouver’s Yaletown aren’t exactly unknown to the brightest of Hollywood’s stars, but even the usually unflappable Hamilton Street hipsters would have done a double take seeing the stars of Twilight sneaking a quick cigarette outside the Blue Water Cafe Friday night.

Celebrating the impending end of the New Moon shoot, Pattinson and Stewart chatted up a storm with co-stars Dakota Fanning, Taylor Lautner, Rachelle Lefevre and series scribe Stephanie Meyer.

Pattinson, looking ultra-casual in a checked shirt with black jeans, with a rolled-up script wedged into a pocket,

The Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar has been Yaletown institution for years with its wooden interiors and expansive patio, and just about every film crew worth its salt has ended up there at some point in the production.

The Twilight kids reportedly didn’t make an all-nighter of it, despite Pattinson’s birthday being just five days way, with most enjoying a few quick bevvies before hitting the limos and scorching out of Dodge.

Meanwhile, Pattinson’s latest film, Little Ashes, in which he plays Salvador Dali, is being panned by most critics.

I’m sure he’ll deal.

In Edward’s absence, Bella got emotionally imbalanced and psychologically disturbed, hearing what she called as ‘velvety,
beautiful voice’ in her head. She could not believe that he had decided to leave, compelling Bella to be oblivious about him ‘as if he did not exist’, thinking that was the best to get her off perils. Edward wouldn’t give in to her request of being changed into a vampire to keep them eternally inseparable. It shook Bella off her normal senses, getting cold without conscious effort at fortifying blocks of truth to a conclusion that he didn’t like her after all.
The moment that Victoria was hunting Bella to avenge her mate’s (James) demise down Forks and La Push raised some levels of hysteria though which was rather less significant to lifelessness at Edward’s while of inexistence. So came Jacob Black’s rescue with Sam Uley to lead the pack, of werewolves, slaying Laurent and keeping an eye and ready claw on the rest of his coven for Bella’s safety, sealed in away even from the slightest threat. Jacob underwent intense struggle on the process of revealing his true identity before which, he and Bella had some nice things to share like the motorcycle adventure, where Jacob truly came in handy on her secret deprivation. Upon discovering that he was a werewolf and it was his pack that saved her life from Laurent’s assault, Bella did not have second thoughts of wholeheartedly accepting him, as a friend worth of lifetime trust.
This, however, was not sufficient to release her from delusions of Edward talking to her mind whenever she got near danger. Bella often revisited the forest that once sheltered the Cullens and decided to jump off the cliff one time to dare sorts of hell close by, believing strongly that, that was the only way to keep hearing Edward’s warning voice. Even as she drowned in the black currents, her feelings were safe from anxiety as if every fear were instantly washed off upon such vivacious hints that clamored ‘Edward did exist’. Up to that point, she was spared.
It went too abrupt that Edward didn’t take note of those details carefully, with a sweeping assumption that Bella committed suicide yet missing the puzzle piece that Charlie meant to be gone for Harry Clearwater’s funeral, one very unexpected phone call. Hurriedly so, Edward consulted the ‘Volturi’ with the solid intention of ceasing to live without her. But the Volturi wanted to keep him (for his special talents) and would not grant his death wish, so he opted to just expose himself under broad daylight to burn away. When Bella learned about it through Alice, she didn’t waste a second and flew off, at all cost. She stood by Edward at the nick of time, dragging him away from the sun’s wide view until the next thing they realized was dealing with the inviolable Aro (of the Volturi) whose mad curiosity about Edward’s unique decision as a vampire stared red at Bella with cunning inquisition on which his cohorts kept attentive watch. At the slip of fortune, he was mad convinced by what Alice had forethought to be Bella’s later conversion on account immortality. Soon, they three were escorted out of the Volturi’s chambers and gathered with the rest of the Cullens.
In their privacy, Bella and Edward paid each other debts of explanation they’d grown thirsty of when the spatial difference was at the remotest it could get, breaking to the faintest of touch.
Back to Bella’s place where the infuriated Charlie, having had enough, had lain on a serious anticipation, Bella and Edward came across Jacob midway down the nearby forest, stopping at a distance assuredly buffered from his zone. The men’s calculating, concentrated gazes didn’t flicker as they shifted colors and brief utterances held the air stung with a founding edge of future crises between what used to be ‘legends’. Bella understood that she was the major subject of it all when Jacob implied it at reminding Edward that when a vampire bites a human in the land they were bound to protect, the truce would be over. At this, he nodded to settle so that they could leave before tendencies blurted out of control.
Bella was mad at the same time filled with compassion to the point of regret for Jacob, having chosen Edward to be with. She had promised to get back to him one day with remarks in the hope of patching up their friendship which he would have thought betrayed.
Bella brought the Cullens to vote over her transformation. On the contrary, Edward wanted to keep her soul intact and not abolish her rights of humanity. Where this opposition led was what the third sequel (Eclipse) was looking forward to answer.

I was always taught that if you’re going to do something, you might as well do it right. And in my m

I was always taught that if you’re going to do something, you might as well do it right. And in my mind, there isn’t a more apt application for such a life theory than in the adaptation of popular novels into films. When you think about these popular literary franchise — many of whom have rabid fan bases — it is hard to imagine making a movie (or in this case, two) out of them that are subpar. As we’ve seen with the Harry Potter franchise, the key is to take the story from the books and build upon it. Find good actors, dazzle the fan base with great special effects and make the film’s accessible enough so that folks outside the fan base will be drawn in, and ultimately drawn into the world of the books as well. It’s a reverse method of getting people to read more — make the movies interesting enough, and folks will go after the rest of the story.

Not so with the Twilight franchise, at least not up to this point. With the release of New Moon, the second in a line of four films to be released by Summit Entertainment, the Twilight franchise has succeeded in doing only one thing: appeasing its built-in fan base. Which is sad, because such a rabid fan base deserves something better — something that will reach out to the rest of the world and invite others to see what they see. Sadly, this is not that case — and while its easy to say that some people just won’t “get” this operatic tale of love seen through the eyes of a teen girl, I would rather blame lazy filmmaking.

New Moon picks up where the first Twilight film left off, with Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) locked in a heated, yet abstinent, love affair. But after a freak accident at Bella’s birthday party puts her life in danger, Edward leaves her in hopes of giving her a chance at a normal life — one that doesn’t involve brooding over a vampire. Left with emptiness in her heart, Bella weeps for Edward for several months, eventually emerging slightly from her depression to forge a new friendship with the constantly shirtless Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a now-meaty friend who is going through a few odd changes himself. As Bella digs deeper into Jacob’s life, she soon finds out that he isn’t all that he seems either.

From there, we find out about the true nature of Jacob and his tribe and — spoiler alert — their sweet ancestry of being werewolves. At this point, director Chris Weitz sets in and delivers two of the few shining achievements of New Moon. One is the development of Jacob as a character, aided by a solid performance from Taylor Lautner. After a movie and a third of watching Bella with Edward, it is almost sweet to see her engaging with someone who might have some depth to them, even if he does turn into a giant wolf from time to time. As well, Weitz delivers a wolf-on-wolf action sequence during Bella’s discovery of the wolf pack that is quite awesome, and reminiscent of his crowning achievement in The Golden Compass, the epic polar bear fight scene. It was the only point in the film when New Moon was exciting, and not bogged down with slo-mo action or brooding, hollow shells of romantic archetypes.

newmoon-review2

The rest of the movie is about as moving and engaging as watching a 24-hour golf marathon on television, in French. Sure, there is something there if you’re really interested in it and you speak the language, but to anyone sitting on the outside it is just another surface-level romantic melodrama that is poorly paced. On top of that, the Twilight films (can’t speak for the books) give us two main characters who are increasingly difficult to like, let alone adore (let alone root for). Bella is a whiny, weak-willed character whose sole preoccupation is finding a man through which she can define herself, and Edward is a creepy 109-year old vampire who is trolling the high school halls for young girls.

On top of that, Robert Pattinson’s performance is excruciatingly stale. I get it, he’s playing a vampire who is supposed to be without emotion. But he’s also playing the exception to the rule, the vampire who falls madly in love with this beautiful human girl and will do anything and everything to keep her safe. There should be something beneath the surface, something added to Edward to make him feel like the exception — and in Pattinson’s incredibly hollow performance, we see none of that. The same can be said for Kristen Stewart, who delivers once again a performance that makes Bella feel like a caricature of an overly dramatic, perpetually confused teen. If she is to become an icon for young girls everywhere, then I weep for an entire generation.

Beyond character problems and failure to craft an engaging, purposefully paced narrative, New Moon mostly suffers from an insider baseball complex, in which the only folks who can truly engage in the story are those who have intimate previous knowledge of these characters, whether it’s from the first Twilight film or Stephenie Meyer’s series of books. This fact cripples the film’s ability to reach out beyond its core audience, leaving many an audience member confused, bewildered and downright bored.

But as someone who has seen both films and read enough of the books to know what it going on, I can tell you that the most disheartening thing about this film is that while its fan base will be satisfied with it — especially the hanging ending that feels tacked on — they really aren’t getting their fandom’s worth with these movies. There is a story within Stephenie Meyer’s books that could make for a good movie, and a method by which these movies could be accessible and engaging. It just seems as if Summit and their respective creative teams can’t find it. That said, thanks to the nature of the story (the added action of the werewolves and the rush to find Edward in Italy), director Chris Weitz has lucked out — and in turn he has found himself the director of a movie that, while not good in the least, is at least more engaging than Catherine Hardwicke’s first film. Should this trend continue, the infinitely more capable director David Slade may actually give us something worth watching with the next installment, Eclipse.

The Upside: It plays to the fans, and does have a few action scenes (mostly with the wolves) that are pretty fun to watch.

The Downside: Poorly structured, poorly paced, poorly executed CGI in places and characters that are unlikeable, despite the fact that we should be rooting for them. An inaccessible mess.

On the Side: Each member of the wolf pack had to have papers proving their Native decent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree

(The TCNJ Office for International and Off-Campus Studies is beginning a project to capture the experiences of a select group of TCNJ study abroad students at each stage of the study abroad process: pre-departure, at various stages of the program, and upon re-entry into their home culture. Over the course of the next few months you will meet these students and begin to understand why they are studying abroad, what they hope to acheive while they are overseas, and how they cope with some of the inevitable challenges students face while learning the ins and outs of a new way of life. Our first student is Christina Mirisis ‘11, a student in the School of Culture and Society.)

As the end of the semester is quickly approaching and I am about to embark on my second study abroad journey in Turin, Italy, I am overcome with excitement. In fact I have had a countdown until my departure since September, only another month and a half!

Christina Mirisis in Torino, Italy, during her Summer 2009 study abroad program.

Last summer I had the wonderful opportunity of studying in Turin at St. John International University for six weeks where I was captivated by the enchanting city, people, language and culture. My program exceeded my expectations, provided me lifelong memories and left me with a longing to return to Italy. I had been interested in the Italian language and culture since I began studying the language my freshman year of college; however, my passion for Italian flourished during my study abroad program last summer. My experience in Turin was a principal factor in my decision to pursue a Self-Designed Major in Italian and Linguistics in addition to my Spanish major.

My study abroad program in Italy was undoubtedly the highlight of my undergraduate career thus far because it was an incredible learning experience in which I stepped out of my comfort zone and saw the world from a different perspective. I experienced the authentic Italian lifestyle by grocery shopping at open air markets among locals, conversing with my roommate in Italian while enjoying an aperitif at one of Turin’s many historic cafes, seeing films in Italian and interacting with locals to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of their language and culture. As the fall semester is coming to a close I look forward, with great excitement and enthusiasm, to having the opportunity to relive my incredible experience from last summer, to make new friendships and to be immersed in the Italian language and culture. In just six short weeks Turin became my second home and I look forward to returning to familiar places such as Lingotto (former Fiat factory which now features a concert hall, movie theatre and shopping center), Porta Palazzo (the largest open air market in Europe), Superga (Basilica set atop the hill of Superga which provides incredible views of the city of Turin and the surrounding area) and Piazza Castello (heart of Turin and home to many of the residences of the Savoy family). I will end this entry with a quote from a bookmark I bought at the Feltrinelli bookstore in Turin. “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” This quote from St. Augustine captures the value of study abroad because travel is one of the best educational tools that teaches a person lessons not found in a book or a classroom.

Last Saturday I began an eight-week series about God as our PROVIDER, saying that He is:

Purposeful

Relational

Objective

Vulnerable

Incarnational

Dependable

Empowering

Resourceful

We think about God a lot of different ways – Father, friend, bridegroom, and King. Did you notice these titles provide a relationship to us? God is so interested in being a part of our lives that He provides different relationships to touch the many needs to our soul and mind. He is the Father to our little girl souls; He is the best friend we crave; He is the ultimate husband; and He is our King whom we can worship.

I admit that it is difficult to see God in all of these roles; most of the time I think of Him as a sovereign king ruling on high. I make an effort to see Him as my friend, and even more difficult for me is to see Him as my husband. I have to focus my mind on who He is in these roles, but I love doing this because God becomes three-dimensional and really real (instead of an imaginative figure sitting in the clouds).

God didn’t have much of a relationship with His people before Jesus. The Jewish people put God in the ark—literally, a box. God was put in the “secret place” behind a curtain, where only the High Priest could visit, and only once a year. With Jesus, that veil was torn, and we are all high priests to Jesus. Through Jesus’ death, we have direct access to God the Father. God wanted so much to relate to us that He sacrificed his only Son to do so.

Will you let God be a Father to guard your heart while you wait for your Boaz? Will you let God be the perfect husband you don’t want to change? Will you set tea for two and tell God what’s happening in your life? God our King can provide the many relationships women need to be happy and whole, and for that He is worthy of all our worship.

Blessings,

Ok. So I have seriously been counting down the days for the arrival of the motion picture “New Moon.” I know that Stephanie Meyer meant to target tweens when she wrote the ” Twilight Saga” series. But hello, almost 30, and totally addicted!

I have read the series at least 6 times! I just read “New Moon” for, like, the 8th time. I own “Twilight”. (At least my mom does and I just never gave it back to her and probably never will and Yen, if you give it back to her after you watch it…….well, lets just say, dont’ do it.) I own both motion picture soundtracks and a behind the scenes book of the movie “Twilight”.

I know, I know. What’s the big deal, right? I have no idea. I am just completely engrossed in the series.

Today is the official release date for “New Moon” and guess who has tickets for tonight? I DO! My daughter, Kaitlyn, my friend, Eryn, my crazy mother (to be named when I get mad at her) and myself will be continuing our visual tale of the Twilight Saga tonight! I cannot wait!

Part of me is sooooooo excited and, yet, apart of me is sooooooo bummed. I mean, after tonight I will have seen it. I have waited so long for “New Moon” to be released, what will I do now? I know! I know! Count the days until March 2010 when the release of “Eclipse” is made!

Talk to you soon. (But not tonight, cuz, I will be at “New Moon”!!!)

Let me tell you something about yours truly.. After I got my heart broken by my first serious boyfri

Let me tell you something about yours truly..

After I got my heart broken by my first serious boyfriend almost four years ago, I promised myself that I will never let any guy take control of me. It was an abusive relationship which lasted one and a half years. It wasn’t until I finally learned to fight back when I knew it was time to let go.

A few months after that break-up, another guy courted me. I never really liked him that much, and I was kind of a b**ch to him. But my friends supported him and told me that he truly loves me. So I answered him and we were together for almost four months. That’s because I had to move to Manila.

Months later, one of my best friends and I had a bet to see if I could last two whole years of being single. And I did. I won the bet last August 2009 and to my surprise, I was able to be single for over two years.

It wasn’t until June when I met this guy. Instantly, I knew we had a connection. To be honest, I was never the type of girl who wanted to settle down and raise a family. In fact, I have even announced to my dad that he should not expect any grandkids from me because I’m not planning on giving him one.

But with this guy, it was different. For a brief moment, I wanted to get married to him and settle down with him. Grow old with him as we would watch our kids mature as well. For that time being, I was able to do things that normally, I am incapable of.

Even if you asked me, I would never, ever go to a hospital with you for a check up if we just started to date. I am also never the type of girl who would wash the dishes since I don’t even do that at home! Needless to say, I even washed some plates which smelled of sour milk. [not a good smell, people!]. I would not even for one minute, allow myself to spoil a guy for one bit. Not at all.

But with this guy, everything seemed to change. I was beginning to change. I was able to know the real me and what I am capable of. Although I know I can write, it was because of him that I discovered that the real me just plainly wants to write for a living. And I have never been this happy in my life. It seems I had everything– my own career, a new dog, and him. Even though we were “undefined,” I felt or rather always convinced myself that he was beginning to feel the same way with me.

But later on, when I started to introduce him to the people who were closest to me, he started becoming a, well… a jerk. He would be rude to them and would even not answer back when one of my girlfriends were talking to him. This hurt me. But my friends knew he was making me happy, so they did not contradict me. Plus it may be because I had warned them not to ask me if I think he’s worth it because that would only end up to us fighting. Bringing him home to meet my dad didn’t help either. It would be wrong for me to say this, but I have never seen my dad so upset at me. Even though the issue sort of just riddled away, I still cannot look my dad in the eye. I would like to say I’m sorry to my dad but I cannot open my heart to do it. Until now, all I would really like to do is just to embrace my dad so hard and admit to him that I had been wrong.

Five months later, this guy suddenly just told me “hindi tayo bagay.” [For my overseas friends, it means “we're not compatible.”] For obvious reasons, that thought had also been running through my head the past few weeks we were together. But unlike him, I kept fighting it off to prove that even though we weren’t, we could still make it work, just like we used to.

I knew we weren’t compatible simply by looking at our interests: he likes to be in crowded places while I prefer to stay away from them, he likes to keep working even though that meant sacrificing our “time” together while I would just patiently sit until he would have time for me, he didn’t also like to go to the places where I usually frequent because “they’re too sosyal” [expensive places]. There are many more which I simply can’t discuss. But even through all this, I kept finding ways to make us work, if he would not give up.

But he did.

And now, with just those words “hindi tayo bagay” [again, “we're not compatible], they keep crushing me. There truly is no other word for it. I have been crushed and devastated. And even if the end has already happened, I am still sometimes hoping I would get a YM or text from him saying he misses me. But I know that will never happen.

So I put on my brave mask and strongly tell my best friends that it’s over. My best friends keep asking me how I am. But I answer them not to ask me that question because it only breaks me down. Even so, I cannot fully answer the simple question, “how are you?” Except this: I feel like I died and part of me is still dying.

I know. I will get over it. It will soon fade. And believe me, after the makeover yesterday, I kind of feel much better [new hair, new hair!]. I am finding more time to spend with my best friends, the people who will never ever ever leave me. I am finding more time for myself to grow and learn [will finally be able to get that photography lesson and maybe even another foreign language]. In addition, I have finally gotten an idea on a new blog [welcome to riseofthepantyhose] and more fashion inspired [want to throw out my old clothes and go for a serious shopping spree]. Luckily, I have also been blessed by given the opportunity of meeting new clients everyday. Ever since the split, I have been receiving emails everyday on new projects. Truly, they are something that can take my mind off the plate.

To be honest, it still hurts everytime a memoir of him manages to creep into my thoughts. When I am driving the car or even in public, I have to wear sunglasses because I never know when my tears will start falling. I have sleepless nights where I just keep tossing and turning as I avoid any thoughts of him. And when I finally manage to sleep, he is constantly the leading man in my dreams. When I wake up and I touch my eyes, they are still wet from tears that have fallen while I slumber.

I know it will all end.. someday.

Angel (through SMS Nov. 18 11:23 pm): “You expected too much from him and the relationship, bigger hurt. But you’ll survive it trix. Your friends are here for you and always will be.”

Jason (new client who found me through my blogs): “Sorry to hear about your break up with your boyfriend. I’m sure the right guy will come along!”

Would like to thank: Angel, Cristel, Mimi, Denise, Christina, Tricia, Jake, Bubot, Ronnie, David Ross (though he doesn’t have any idea why), Josef, my family (they too don’t know why), and to the other people who are excusing me from being a bi*ch lately.

For some reason, this week (both Monday and Tuesday) The CW only had 94 percent coverage instead of 95 percent. But I’m not sure how much difference that actually makes in the ratings.

Sometimes I forget who I am. I’ve had an identity crisis lately and have had a hard time realizing who I am in Christ.

Many men and women in the Bible have asked God some version of “Who am I?” When God spoke to me through a prophet, I didn’t believe I was worthy of the gift spoken over me. I doubted that I was good enough to be used for such a calling.

I realized that this is a lie from the devil. He has had millennia of practice stealing our identities. He has never wanted us to believe we are God’s children with the same honor and power as Jesus, and the devil will use doubt, fear, envy, depression, and lies to steal away the truth.

Have you ever heard these lies? You’ll never be [good, pretty, smart] enough. You don’t deserve God’s love. No one will ever love you. You are nothing special. I have heard these and more so I try to silence the whispers and make an effort to remind myself of who God says I am.

Recently I came across a four-page list of scriptures that show our true identities. I have selected a few of these that really show how God sees us.

The Bible says that we are

accepted, not condemned (Romans 15:7, 8:1)

beautiful temples where the Holy Spirit thrives (1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19)

blessed with all ALL the spiritual blessings in heaven (Ephesians 1:3)

chosen and loved (1 Thessalonians 1:4, Colossians 3:12, Ephesians 1:10-11)

complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10)

daughters of the Most High God and co-heirs with Christ, and joined in one spirit (John 1:12, Romans 8:17, 1 Corinthians 6:17, Galatians 4:7)

free from sin and death (Galatians 5:1)

God’s beautiful workmanship (Ephesians 2:10)

justified and redeemed (Ephesians 1:7, Romans 3:24)

made a new creation, dead to ourselves (1 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:24, Romans 6:6)

saints and not sinners (1 Corinthians 1:2, Ephesians 1:1, Philippians 1:1, Colossians 1:2)

the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Tabatha and I will surely touch on the topics above over time, but today I want to talk a little bit about John 1:12 in The Message because it is simple yet profound:

But whoever did want him,
who believed he was who he claimed
and would do what he said,
He made to be their true selves,
their child-of-God selves.

I like this paraphrase because it says we were made to be our “true selves,” children of God. When we choose Christ and come to know Him, we begin to realize who we really are.

Look up the verses listed above and ask God to show you where the devil is stealing from you. Do you devalue yourself as a mom? Do you believe that you’re not pretty enough to be loved? Ask God to help you destroy the lies with the truth of these scriptures. You may find it helpful to write these verses on index cards and post them around the house and at work.

Take back your identity from the devil—he knows the truth and so should you.

Blessings,
