¿Computadoras portátiles y potentes a $100 dólares?

Probé Google Chrome y no me gustó.

Berikut beberapa rahasia tersembunyi Google Chrome: 1. window (Control + Shift + N) Fitur ini

Berikut beberapa rahasia tersembunyi Google Chrome:

1. window (Control + Shift + N)

9. Control + J
Buka windows download file. Shortcut ini sama seperti pada FireFox

10. Shift + Escape

11. about:plugins & about:crash
Fitur lainnya: about:stats, about:network, about:histograms, about:memory, about:cache, about:dns, about:internets

OK, so I finally received my Google Wave invite and now I’m setting it up. After signing in this is the first screen I see. I’m sorry Google, but isn’t this being a little anti-competitive? I’m an IE user. I did toy with using Firefox exclusively about two years ago (when it was all the buzz), but these days I generally don’t use it. Safari on the PC? Well, I looked at it, but what’s the point? So what about Chrome Frame in IE? Last time I had Chrome Frame installed IE was crashing on every second site I visited.

So that leaves me with Chrome. I like Chrome. Great UI, nice and fast etc. If it weren’t for the fact that one of the reasons I use IE is because it’s what all my users have in their SOE, I might just use Chrome exclusively. What I object to is being told I have to.

There you have it, you can use Google Wave so long as don’t use the market leading web browser. I wonder if it works with Opera?

I love google stuff; everything they make is great. However, I’m very concerned that they can’t keep it up forever. The company has become fairly large and today it seems to “innovate” primarily by buying other more nimbler and innovative companies. How long can this model sustain revenue, especially since revenue from advertisements seems to have a saturation and other companies are likely to get really good at advertising on the web as well.

All in all, google won’t have the money to keep buying every small interesting start up out there, and if they can’t buy all the innovation, then their eventual fall from dominance (not saying google will disappear) seems assured. It’s just impossible to have one company beat all other companies at innovation in every conceivable type of app, program, application, or website. Sure, for now chrome is the answer to Firefox and google’s new operating system might be a competitor to Windows, but can google keep one step ahead forever. It seems impossible.

Watch out Chrome OS, Jolicloud means business. The cloud-based netbook operating system is feeling the heat and stepping it up, announcing their pre-beta release late last week.
So, why is Jolicloud worth a look? Compatibility with “almost every netbook” is a good first step. In addition, the developers are touting a really fresh and updated UI and an entirely cloud-based structure. The pre-beta release adds some cool functionality including a much easier installation process. Originally only available for install via a USB stick or .ISO image, Jolicloud’s developers are planning to release “Jolicloud Express”, a way to partition your drive and install the OS right on top of your Windows installation. This makes removing it nice and easy and simplifies some issues people have been having with the installation. The developers are really excited about the release and will be pushing out more invitations soon. When asked why they’re building it, they had one thing to say:
The convergence of the cloud, mobile connectivity and affordable netbooks is powering a computer revolution that everyone can be part of. Together let’s build Jolicloud and make it one of the driving forces in this revolution.

So, in reply to Zagoraths scathing arguments against Firefox and for Chrome, it appears I will have to make an effort and build a solid, reliable argument for FF. [And this time, I'll check my facts...]

Adblocking
Using NoScript and/or AdBlock Plus, Firefox can block in-page ads. Also, I think that Firefox has a superior pop-up blocker, my evidence for this being that I never see pop-ups in Firefox, but often see them (but not many) in Chrome.

Addons

Firefox does have a lot of great addons, but really, are they necessary?

No. But! They can add a huge amount of functionality to Firefox. If these were built in features, Firefox would be several GB in size. Some of my arguments give examples of what they can do, but there are a huge number of add-ons for Firefox.

Virus checks

This is something that Chrome does as well…

Completely wrong. In a fair test, using the Eicar Anti-virus test file [http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm] I downloaded all four tests in Firefox and Chrome. Results:

Firefox: 4/4

Chrome: 0/4

Firefox not only picked up all four ‘viruses’, but used the computers own anti-virus scanner to do so (In this case AVG (Which is only temporary )). This is very good – if Firefox used it’s own scanner, it would not be as effective as the computers scanner (in most cases), leaving a weak spot in a systems defences. Chrome, I am sorry to say, failed this miserably, not even scanning them.

Sync

Bookmarks: Google Chrome has this feature built-in now. You don’t even need an addon to use it.

Sorry, you missed the point there. C’mon, even IE can do bookmarks without anything extra. No, what I’m talking about is Weave. It syncs all your bookmarks, history, preferences (some), tabs and passwords with the Weave server, allowing your other Firefox’s to sync with that as well. For instance, keeping your stuff the same between a laptop and desktop.
Search Engines

Your point here clearly shows your ignorance. If you think Chrome can only use Google as the default search engine, then you clearly haven’t used Chrome.

Chrome’s url bar runs on Google searches. You know the helpful little suggestions? Google. On the other hand, Firefox’s Awesomebar does this as well.

Tool-bars

All I can say to that is “yuck”. I hated all those toolbars that came with various programs before, and I’m glad to be rid of them in Chrome.

Yeah but no. While those extra toolbars cannot even infect Chrome, in Firefox they are easy to get rid of, cannot install themselves, and a few are actually useful. Such as the Text Formatting Toolbar add-on. This gives a nice simple toolbar, that can easily format BBCode, Wiki markup and HTML when editing in a textbox. Tags can be added, such as the spoiler tag for forums, which is a real help for me (thought it wasn’t easy to add to the toolbar…)

Configuration

FF has much more configuration options than Chrome, however, the average user will never see any of these options. For most people these are never needed, and for the rest, they are very rarely used.

For the average user, they aren’t seen, they aren’t needed. For the advanced user, they are easy to get to and can help make Firefox much easier for a specific user.

Cookie management
Several add-ons are available that will:

Block tracking cookies such as Google’s,

Destroy unwanted cookies perioicallly,

And block cookies from certain websites (built-in to FF)

Easter eggs

Are just that, easter eggs. Sure, they’re funny, but not really useful.

Yeah, but Chrome don’t have them. Also, stuff like “Here be dragons!” on about:config make Firefox much more fun to use .

Customise menus and edit text in outside editor

I have no idea what this is, nor why one would want it.

Too very useful add-ons. The first lets the menus be edited, making them more suited to the user, and the second let the contents of a text box be edited in another program, e.g. Notepad++. The advantage being for people who type code, giving them a GUI meant for the job, with syntax highlighting etc.

JavaScript speed

This is clearly wrong. In fact, one of the biggest advantages of Chrome is that it is FASTER in not just plain HTML, but also in JavaScript.

Hmm. I’m not sure on this one. I’ve seen several tests on this, and the results are conflicting. So I’m not sure, but chrome often feels faster…

Form Fill

I’ve tried these out in the past, and they’ve never seemed to work for me. I’m happy manually entering my information. Chrome does remember usernames and passwords and can automatically log you in, like any browser.

Try Sxipper. I’ve been using it for ages, and as well as saving multiple logins for sites, forms are filled in very well. I will often have to add information I haven’t given it, but it still saves a lot of time.

Languages

I’m going to trust your statistics, and say that you win this point.

Yep, although I was wrong about the extra, that was based on page translations, not Firefox’s language.

Usage tracking

Just go into incognito mode and it saves nothing to your computer. I think it’s the same with Firefox… I don’t know how reliable this source is, but have a look anyway http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1263534.html

No. That’s wrong. That will stop it saving anything to your computer. BUT the problem is, at several pionts, Chrome will send info to their servers. From Wikipedia:

Chrome sends details about its usage to Google through both optional and non-optional user tracking mechanisms.

Tracking methods

Method

Information sent

Optional?

When “significant events occur”

Bug tracker

Unknown

Yes

OS Support

For the moment, you win this point, however Google is working on support for Mac OS and Linux, so it won’t stay that way for long.

Sure. But Firefox has supported these for much longer, and has support for other systems (however, I haven’t been able to find evidence of this…

Open source

Chrome is open source too, again you show your ignorance.

Wrong agian: Chromium is open-source, but the actual Chrome browser is not. There isn’t a huge amount of difference between them thought.

Popularity

This shows nothing about how good it is, only how many people use it. If you go by this, IE is far greater than FF.

2009

IE8

IE7

IE6

Firefox

Chrome

Safari

Opera

October

12.8%

14.1%

10.6%

47.5%

8.0%

3.8%

2.3%

From http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp, a pretty reliable source. As you can see, Firefox beats any individual IE, and all the others.

Profiles [New!]
Firefox can have multiple profiles, and can run several at once if it needs to. Each profile has it’s own settings, history, bookmarks, add-ons. In fact, anything that can be changed in Firefox is stored in the profile. This can be useful in a huge number of ways; such as running profiles for individual users on the same windows account, or testing add-ons, or running Firefox with diffrent settings. Profiles can also be transferred between computers. This is a major feature of Firefox that Chrome doesn’t have.

Right-click to open links

Why can’t you just left click? If you mean in a new tab, just middle click…

This is really important! Think – laptop touchpads generally have only two buttons: left click and right click. I open a lot of new tabs, and right clicking and then finding “open in new tab” takes a lot of time, so this is really useful for people using laptops.

RSS Support

You mean it has an in-built RSS reader? I’m not sure what this point is about, but you can easily use Google Reader, or some other thing.

Firefox has several RSS readers, several on-line/add-on (they uses parts of both) readers, live bookmarks built in (a bookmarks folder that auto updates with items from an RSS feed inside) and can display rss index pages. Chrome can use only web-based RSS readers.

Script blocking

If you mean dangerous scripts, I believe Chrome has this built in, but I’m not sure.

Support

Bittorrent? I’m confused how you can say any browser supports it.

I was wrong. Damn wikipedians . However, Opera supports .torrent downloads.

IRC is supported by Chrome, I use at http://live.pirillo.com from time to time.

You win that one. Firefox needs an add-on.

Themes

A great advantage, but I personally prefer the look of Chrome to any theme or persona from Firefox. The idea of having tabs at the top, and doing away with the title bar is brilliant. It really works to one of Chrome’s most minor, but unbelievably useful advantages: that it has far more screen space then any other browser. Chrome also doesn’t show the status bar when it’s not needed, another simple, but brilliantily useful feature that is completely unique.

Firefox can hide its statusbar whenever it wants to, and auto hide with an add-on. But yes, Chrome has an awesome theme. I even use it’s theme for Firefox!

User styles and scripts

I don’t know what these are, so I’m not going to comment.

Video Downloaders

I personally don’t know why one would use any desktop software or browser addon, when you can do it perfectly simply, high quality, free, and no hard drive space is used by going to keepvid.com

Simple. Easy. Takes seconds (It uses the default Firefox downloader, not anything fancy).

Web design tools

Don’t know exactly what this is, but sounds like a web publishing software type thing, like a browser based version of expression web, or FrontPage.

It isn’t anything in particular, but Firefox has a huge range of tools and add-ons to help web designers, far to many to list here.

So, there’s my new argument for Firefox. Chrome has a lot going for it, but Firefox has so much more.

Any Martina McBride fans out there? Her song “Anyway” came up on the mp3 player when I w

Any Martina McBride fans out there? Her song “Anyway” came up on the mp3 player when I was about 20 miles or so (nearly there) from the basin on Thanksgiving Day, and it got me thinking. Despite the supreme frustrations we wild horse lovers endure in the battle to keep our mustangs wild and free, and despite the heartaches and breaks they inevitably bring us along the way – from the magical way they melt into our hearts from first sighting – we must love them anyway. I don’t know about you all, but I’m helpless to do it any other way.

This visit wasn’t without some personal heartbreak – Molly. But it was with so much more: the horses and me and the deer and the wind and the light and the hills and song dogs howling and hope for the future in the shape of little faces and fuzzy coats, winter-ready.

Hunters gone, I had a long-awaited visit with the pinto ponies. Stout Milagro is so fuzzy, he looked like a pony next to daddy Copper.

Oddly, he and Liberty are the same dark muley bay. Maybe a genetic connection on their respective trees.

Here we have Shadow as bonnie mountain goat and David playing it a wee bit safer. I spotted them from the county road, but the pintos were hiding a bit.

The horses – including matriarch Kiowa – were relaxed and grazing, and they paid hardly as much attention to me as to the visitor walking the trail below them …

I’m happy to report that although the vast contingent of hunters finally left the valley, the deer did not. In fact, they are much more visible now, including at least two magnificent ”granddaddies” to this young buck.

Mama Kiowa and baby Milagro; Corazon at left and Spook at right.

Mesa is still the outside man, but Ty and Corazon are right in the thick of things, to no great concern of Copper’s.

Corazon; Kiowa in the background.

Reya is the same age as Shadow; they’ll be 3 next spring.

Sisters Reya and Spook (May 1, 2008).

And baby brother Milagro (July 1, 2009). Can you see how fuzzy he is?

In the “front country” of the basin, Steeldust’s band was enjoying the last light of day … and I enjoyed the light creating halos around them …

He does seem to be sticking close to Lady Alpha these days.

Luna and Hannah

Mahogany grazing; Sable seeking attention from almost-3-year-old Kestrel (yearmate of Shadow and Reya).

A little past, a little different angle o’ light. Comanche in the background. (Aspen and Hook are still with the band.)

I took some pictures in passing, but my attention was really farther ahead: Chrome, Jif and little-man Hayden.

This image may be actual size? That’s Hayden’s teeny hoofprint in the soil of his home … Can’t express, really, what this image means to me.

It seems to me (stand by for anthropomorphization) that now-family-man Chrome is a little befuddled by the recent attention showered upon him – former bachelor that he is – well, in his vicinity. I am thankful for his care of his little shadow …

This one just makes me smile.

Little is fuzzed-up and bearded for winter … so soon … He seems to show the faintest hint of grey high on his cheeks, but right around his eyes is red. What color will the mister be? He’s so much like his daddy, Grey/Traveler.

Now the secret is out: BLM’s next “issue” is the incredible proliferation of over-populating wild ants! No end in sight! How WILL they manage this new “problem”??

Evening with a view …

So thankful …

I took this photo of the moon during my visit with Hayden and Co., song dogs setting up a chorus in the background. Not sure it could have been more perfect.

At that point, I didn’t yet know about Molly.

In the morning, before sunrise, it was 15 degrees in the basin. The morning star was glittering like a droplet of ice on the eastern horizon while the sky grew steadily lighter. In the dim light, I had a sighting that made my heart leap: Duke. It was hard to see him because it was not yet exactly light and because of the distance, but he looked a little off – still. More on him to come.

Mornings in the basin will make you believe in something other than yourself … and if you already believe … it will reaffirm your faith in something humans will never take away. It is still. It is clear. It is hopeful. It is magic. You can almost hear the collective breath holding, waiting for that first light on the far ridges across Disappointment Valley, waiting for a long column of light to illuminate, first, Filly Peak, then widen and lay down its path across Round Top and Flat Top.

Steeldust and his hangers-on were single-file from the pond to the base of the hill. Far away.

I was looking for horses to put between me and the camera and the hills, surrounded by that sublime light. Did I mention how cold it was?

Hollywood and his girls and his youngster found me, grazing quietly in the pre-dawn light down a line of hills below the road. I hadn’t spent much time with them lately, so I put my down coat on top of my jacket and 14 other layers, wrapped my ear-band around my head, readied my gloves, put extra batteries close to my heart … and waited and watched the creep of light.

Have you ever watched – really watched – sunrise? It can’t be described. Especially, maybe, in the great – intimate – expanse of the basin; there are just too many places to watch the rising sun touch hills and ridges and swells with that sweet golden light. And before I knew it, sunlight had replaced shadow surrounding Holls and the girls and Sage. I zipped up and started walking. Baylee, watching me waddle toward them, thought – apparently – I was the abominable snowwoman – or Michelin Woman? – come to life.

The “Bundle Woman” cometh.

Piedra apparently eventually recognized me, but Baylee’s expression didn’t change much in the other photos I took. Steeldust’s band didn’t know what to think last fall, either, the first time I wore my down coat, until I started singing to them … the only audience that can withstand my “singing.”

Sage still treats auntie Baylee like a playmate … and he still seeks reassurance from mama.

Hollywood

Sage’s winter coat is brown again. He looks like a little Mouse.

Relaxed

I hadn’t seen Grey/Traveler’s band the day before – and I hadn’t seen Bounce’s since the weekend before last - so I decided to head on to look for them and see if the golden light would hold.

Saw the silver boy and his band … and as I approached the Round Top intersection, I saw horses nearly straight ahead. It took a second to identify them against the light … and it took a second after that to pick out Liberty, grazing close to Gaia. I didn’t have to look for Molly; I knew she wouldn’t be there. Even expecting to see what I saw, I couldn’t stop the tears from coming. There’d be no heartbreak if there wasn’t first love.

Gaia and Liberty

Bounce

Whisper and Alegre

Maybe a little surrogate-mothering going on …

Liberty is our third orphan since I started the documentation of the Spring Creek Basin herd. My introduction to Twister was when he was already orphaned, possibly during the roundup. Shadow’s dam, Ceal, died sometime over the winter of 2007-08. Liberty is 6 months old, and she’s a tough little thing. I think she’ll be OK.

I walked from them back over to Grey/Traveler’s band.

He is my healing magic.

Cuatro was hanging out, napping on his feet, a short distance from the band. Then he decided to put on a show:

Such a big trot for a little boy!

Flying!

He must have learned this move from his muley pals.

He hit the brakes, and Terra came up out of the arroyo. Two Boots never looked up from her grazing. She’s a veteran mama at the ripe young age of 2. Watching Cuatro, it suddenly became apparent to me that his sire has to be Twister; he looks just like him.

Grey and Houdini

Terra and Cuatro

Iya (April 27, 2008) and Terra (May 1, 2009); La Sal Mountains in the background. They were born the same color; look how dark Iya is now!

Fuzzy, furry silver boy!

Thus emotionally armed, I went back to find Duke.

He looks all right … but he is thinner than when he had Raven and Corona – and, briefly, Kootenai.

He’s still limping, but he’s completely mobile, and he’s putting weight on his injured leg (right hind). See all that sky behind him? This is Spring Creek Basin’s version of “top of the world.” The difference between here and the Pryors is that here, if you step off that edge … well, let’s just say it really is an edge, and I really would recommend NOT stepping off!

Love his handsome face.

He’s a crazy horse to be walking up and down mountains (to and from water) on his healing leg, but he’s a tough boy!

Love, always.

Thankful days don’t wait for calendar dates. No matter what’s going on, I – and you, I bet – have things in your life for which to be thankful anyway. I think the ponies don’t know how much they give of themselves to all of us who admire them so; it’s the least we can do to ensure their continued protection – any way we can.

When Google announced the Chrome operating system back in July, they didn’t give out very many

When Google announced the Chrome operating system back in July, they didn’t give out very many details on what to expect from it. Since Google open-sourced Chrome OS late last week, developers can now compile the operating system from source and try it out for themselves.

Google Chrome OS uses a Linux base, which then loads the Google Chrome web browser (which has been available for Windows since last year). That means that the Google Chrome web browser is basically your operating system. And despite speculation, Google Chrome OS has no relation to Android, Google’s operating system for mobile devices.

Along with last week’s announcement, Google also released two videos detailing the purpose of Google Chrome OS. The two videos are shown below.

If you’re interested in trying out Google Chrome OS and don’t know how to compile it from source, you can download a VMware virtual machine image here (registration is required, unfortunately). Of course, to run the VMware image you’ll need to download/buy a virtualization program if you don’t already have one to run it in. Both VirtualBox and VMware Player support the image and can both be downloaded free of charge.

You most likely won’t be seeing Google Chrome OS pre-installed on any computers for about a year. Google Chrome OS is meant for netbooks and will require a solid state drive (flash-memory based hard drive) to run. Because of this, there most likely won’t be a threat to Windows on desktops, laptops, and netbooks with actual hard drives.
