Just nu är kanadensiska Chromeo ute på sin DJ Kicks Tour. Och på torsdag (26/11) kommer de till Stockholm för en spelning på Marie Laveau. Senast duon släppte en skiva var 2007 då fantastiska Fancy Footwork släpptes. Nu är det snart dags igen och vi är oerhört taggad inför vad Night by Night kan bjuda på. Av titelspåret att döma kan det inte bli annat bra.

Denna måndag tänkte vi höja peppen inför både skivsläpp och spelning med tre spår, alla remixer på den oerhört funkälskande duon. Det blir discosväng i Siriusmos remix av Night by Night, en grym remix på Bonafied Lovin’ av finska mästaren Jori Hulkkonen och slutligen Etienne de Crecys electroremix på Tenderoni. Allt för ert höga nöjes skull.

This past August I was pumped for seeing A-Trak side by side M.I.A.’s bestie, Rye-Rye, but the girl had to go and get prego and cancelled her remaining tour dates. As I pondered who would make a great sub for the act I naturally considered Kid Sister, aka Melisa Young, ironically, the elder sister of J2K, aka Josh Young, one half of Chicago based duo, Flosstradamus. Alas, A-Track, little brother of Dave 1, aka David Macklovitch, vocals and guitarist of MTL based electrofunk duo, Chromeo, dawned the stage alone. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing the MTL native turned international sensation and exclusive Kanye DJ, can attest to the fact that the night was nevertheless something to bewonder (Aside from the fact that there was no air conditioning in the subterranean hot-box). Still, the whole experience left me wondering when the heck we would see the likes of kid Sis again. Her collabs with Tittsworth (who’s recent mix is a little bit of disappointment, if i may use this opportunity to say so) and Loudmouth West offered the Illinois born lyricist critical acclaim and made her into a near instant star in the minds of hipsters and collar-poppers alike.

Well she’s back. This past Tuesday, too much anticipation, kid Sister released Ultraviolet. The album contains past jams like Pro Nails and Control, and opens with the recent single, Right Hand Hi. I’m not sure Right Hand Hi will live up to the successes of the aforementioned hits but it is sure going to get more that your ear-drums shaking.

In 2004 Needy Girl came out. The funky sound was completly new to me but yet so… so awesomely great. After that Chromeo has always had a special place in my heart.

The group (David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel) comes from Montreal, Canada and was formed 2002. Influnced by eighties disco and sententies funk they released the album She’s In Control in 2004. After great reviews and even videos on MTV it took them three years to create their next masterpiece, Fancy Footwork. This album was remixed by big names such as Etienne de Crezy, Laidback Luke and MSTRKRFT. Not to mention the king Philippe Zdar, the man behind the french artist Cassius, who made a great job mixing the album.

So now, 2009, Chromeo releases Night By Night with remixes by Skream and Siriusmo. Funny thing is that the original mix will work great on a dancefloor, Siriusmo remix you can drink a few beers to and Skream’s is a real laid back track for, say, relaxation…

The day she came to Edmonton, she played at my FAVORITE venue ever, the Starlite Room, but it was also the day before moving out east. So blah. But, her new album, I Feel Cream, is solid solid peaches. Dirty. Raunchy. Gender bending. Back bending. ASS UP! It is only so fitting that Amanda Blank opens up for her. -There is barely any info on the dude, but his full name is Ishmael Ledesma. He’s had a great great musical history, touring with the likes of Kool and the Gang, Natalie Cole, Rick James, and more. He was a part of many disco bands in the seventies and eighties. When I first heard this song, I was addicted. It had the Anita Bell-esque disco feel to it. It took me a while to realise that it’s actually a man singing this song. Awesome. Put on your platforms!

-All I know is that they’re dutch. I guess that says enough. A.K.A. they know How To Party. They have so much knowledge that they christened their recent album with the title, The Art of Partying. The album is Italo-disco meets house. It’s alright…it’s an album that you’d definitely need more help with the first time, like maybe a few beers…shots of Jack’s…some wine perhaps? It doesn’t have the air of say, Modeselektor or Junior Boys, where you can chill out to it at home or dance to it at a house party too! It definitely has tracks that stand out but not many. Enjoy this one, my fave off the album =)

-Six piece band of Indonesian awesomeness. Seven years of playing together produced two eclectic albums, Centralismo and Ports of Lima. You can tell they are influenced very very much by the West yet there is still the Pacific feel behind their tones. Centralismo is apparently one of the TOP FIVE Asian albums worth buying (according to The Times Asia). Plus, the Rolling Stones Indonesia praised PoL as the best album in 2008. And they really really do deserve it. Their music is genius and almost impossible to put into a genre. I felt such a release listening to Sore. Finally something away from all the Stereogum and Pitchfork hyped bands. This is super fresh. Get a glass of wine.

-AAAAH yes. Another electro-pop duo from Montréal. Haven’t really heard much of their stuff…and I think Omnikrom’s alright, but their collaboration on this is pretty solid.

-Vapours is easily one of my top albums of the year. UGH, Nick Thorburn and crew have done it again. the Islands, based out of Montréal (WHAT WHAAAAAAAAAAAT!) create the catchiest indie rock with lyrics to match. I recently saw them at Théâtre Plaza and their magic on stage is no short of one feels while listening to the album. Dressed all in white, armored with silver vests and gold collars, they rocked out in style. I got there a bit late, unfortunately, and I guess they must have played my favorite song of theirs (ahem, below!) in the first fifteen minutes because I didn’t get to hear it. My heart ached a bit because of this…but I think it’s OK. This song, is defs on my top list for the year end and was my soundtrack song for New York while I was there.

Fuck Trick or Treating, dressing up will suffice, and as for the candy…well a different type of candy. Spending Halloween with some of the greatest party DJs spinning right now was my choice for a good weekend vacation.This past August I attempted to attend HARD Summer Fest ‘09 because of its promising line up, but HARD just tried to do it too HARD, filling the Forum with over 18,000 people when its capacity is only nearly 10,000. For most fans this was no problem, as for LAPD they felt differently about the situation. Busy P opened up the night and put on an amazing performance getting the crowds hyped up as people were still flowing into the coliseum. At one point security attempted to stop people from accessing entrance onto the floor, which only lead to the fans jumping over the railing (about a one story drop). Following Busy P and unfortunately ending the night, Crystal Castles performed. Alice Glass really got into her performance and came down off the stage into the crowd to sing. Standing right in front of me and the rest of the crowd, everyone went crazy trying to lay a hand on her. Chromeo was scheduled to go on after this performance but at this point the crowd was way beyond crazy and wanting more, so much more that the  LAPD had to put a pause on HARD until everyone calmed down. Pardon me but I would like anyone to try calming 18,000 alcohol and drug induced people…it’s impossible! 2 hours of waiting, HARD was shut down due to the crowds not complying with LAPDs request and everyone was kicked out. This was such a devastation because we traveled all the way from Texas for this and I didn’t get to see the people I wanted to the most! (Dear Bloody Beetroots and Crookers, If you are reading this please perform somewhere in Texas! Love, Benny Havoc a.k.a. Sarah) Once the death of HARD was announced, police lined the stage and began to force people out. The crowds were furious and began to throw bottles and trash at the police; one person even began a fire in one of the bathrooms. Leaving the Forum was suppose to be the epic end to a wonderful summer, in return HARD did me wrong. (although upon leaving I did have the pleasure of meeting P Thugg from Chromeo at the airport)

Despite the big let down my friend who ventured to California with me for take one of HARD, decided not give up and bought a 2 day pass and plane ticket for HARD Haunted Mansion ‘09.

Big Names, Big Music, and Lots of Candy this halloween!
I went to see a few talents, but had the best Halloween experience I have had to date.
Good People, Good Vibes, and Bass Music!
Held at the Shrine this year in downtown LA, we were walking in P Diddy’s footsteps. It was a two day party, best thing I have ever done on a holiday. The energy at HARD blew me away! It might have been the narcotics, but everyone was having a blast and dancing non-stop. I couldn’t blame anyone for being completely inebriated but it was the right time and the right place to be obliterated and witness such a flawless lineup. I can die a happy man seeing the talent I saw that weekend. Although i missed the Crookers, which I am bummed about, I was mother fucking court side for Justice. So seeing the Crookers is still on my to do list, but youtube Justice at HARD Haunted Mansion and check out my pretty mug and huge pupils!
I encourage everyone to go next year! Ill be there same time, same place next year, to do it HARD!

Tonight was hilarious
Started off with my son and his mommy just chilling having a bar b q, in the beautiful Chicago weather.

Then I worked to the door at my friends party and met some interesting/hilarious people.

First off I met the white guy, Jayson (real name QG) , from the movie Drumline.
It was by far the funniest celeb meeting of my life.
Which is hard to beat considering I’ve met anikin skywalker.
He was drunk but overall very, very nice.
I also met his younger and older brother.

What topped of the night is that it was all accompanied by the wonderful music of Chromeo.

First of all, it feels great to be back, similar to the feeling you get after eating a baconator. For those of you who have never read my blogs, which, like my reputation, precedes me, I’m Stu, the Music Director down at ye old WLTL. I like to keep the children (you, the reader) updated on what’s been going on not only at WLTL in terms of music, but also what’s been happening on my iTunes, which is much more exciting than watching paint dry. I promise. We’ll get down to business first… Today, Angelo from ‘Skyline’s Calling’ stopped by the station to record a liner for us. ‘Skyline’s Calling’ is going to be preforming at Rock The Reber on Thursday evening, best of luck to them. You can check them out on myspace (http://www.myspace.com/skylinescalling) and expect to hear them on WLTL in the very near future. Aside from that, ‘The Sunstreak’ came by to play a small acoustic set a week ago. Very nice guys there too, and they sounded most excellent. Check ‘The Sunstreak’ out at their myspace ( http://www.myspace.com/thesunstreak).They actually played a song that’s not on their album called “Wildcard” which is getting played on air as a WLTL exclusive!

Whew. That was a lot. Now I get to talk about myself. I’ve been listening to a bunch of new music lately… I just bought Atreyu’s new album “Congregation of the Damned”, and I don’t care what you haters say, this album rocked. I admit, it’s not “A Deat Grip on Yesterday”, which was an earlier album, but bands need to change, haters. Or else they wouldn’t be interesting. Kind of like scary movies… “Why is she going in there?! Doesn’t she know the killer’s in there?!” Well, “No, because if she did, then it wouldn’t be interesting… Julia”. Notable tracks from “Congregation” include ‘You Were The King, Now You’re Unconscious’, ‘Wait For You’, and ‘Bleeding is a Luxury’. I’ll let you haters now how Atreyu sounds live after I see them on Friday, sound good?

Moving on… Oh, Sle- WAIT! I completely forgot, how could I?! Chromeooooooooooo!!! Just saw Chromeo on the 30th, and it was everything I had hoped for. It was a magical night, minus the fact my friend forgot her ID, oh wait, she doesn’t have one… Never mind, it was an incredibly mediocre night, but Chromeo killed it. Hands down. Go scope Chromeo out. Buy whatever you can get your hands on. Because once your hands are there… There’s no taking them off… Hopefully, expect a new Chromeo album dropping later in December. Some high points of the concert were P-Thugg and Dave1 covering Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, P-Thugg singing the entire first verse and refrain on talk-box. I nearly cried. Not because Chromeo started playing at 11:45 PM, but because it was the perfect time to cover a song in the concert. Go get some Chromeo, you won’t be sorry. Legit.

Chromeo was tight and all, but I need me some loud, double bass-filled, brutal screaming more often than not. That’s why I was down with Oh, Sleeper’s new album “Son Of The Morning”. Definitely several notches up from their previous album “When I Am God”. They tightened all of the instruments up, and the guitars and drums sound incredibly technical. The guitarists stick to their dueling sweeps while my boy on the drums keep the beat, so smooth. As for vocals? Well, they say every rose has its thorn, and I guess it’s true… Vocals…as brutal and deep as they sound, they are pretty monotone. There is no inflection or hitting of the low notes, which is a MUST every now and then. Notable tracks from this one include ‘Son of the Morning’, ‘The New Breed’,  and ‘Commissioned by Kings’.

The Almost (Aaron Gillespie of Underoath’s side project) sent WLTL their new album and that’s up on the computer gettin’ some plays…it better be. Kind of a boring album, but I enjoyed Aaron’s voice on ‘Young Again’ and the catchy tune of ‘Hands’.

I feel like I have so much more to say, but it’ll just be for another time I guess. That’s all for now, keep readin’ and I’ll keep providing bogus stuff for you guys to hate on. (Let the hating commence).

Hola, hola, hola, oatmeal and granola …

so its been too long since I posted anything and a lot of you have probably stopped reading or checking back … in any case here we go with some shiiiiiiat.

Well, firstly, lets get the music dose out of the way so you can listen to this while you read through the rest of the post

As you’ve probably deduced it’s a Skream remix of Chromeo’s latest tune “Night by Night” … to be honest I fucking love it even if it doesn’t exactly have the distinct ear shattering bassline Skream loves to put on his tunes… it’d be real interesting to see what Shackleton could do with this track but its totally not his genre … still I its something I find myself doing all the time … I love trying to visualize in my head people doing covers or remix of tunes that are completely out of their style … sometimes it really works. Although I can’t think of something off the top of my head, maybe you can.

Right, well where was I going with this post … oh yeah … so I’ve been collecting a few tracks over the past couple of weeks a medly of dubstep tunes obviously, a handful of experimental trip hop sounding stuff, as well as a nice little selection of soul and funk … so what ? Well … im toying with the idea of a new BroCast or maybe releasing this mix under the guise and blessing of the Shitledger Radio label … we’ll see…

Either way what I’ve got to really work on is just actually making the mix and choosing the songs … maybe this weekend it’ll happen … I hope so…

I’m thinkin about gettin a midi controller to start playing around on traktor a bit more which could be fun and might make the next mixes and podcasts more interesting at least in terms of production, I’m looking at either the Vestax VCI 300 (but that sticks you to using their software) or the M-Audio Torq Xponent … anyone who knows anything more please let me know your opinion / suggestion. I’ve been reading reviews and shiat but the word of a friend is always better…

Oh and I hopefully get my fuckin macbook back soon after its been at the computer hospital for fuckin ages due to a random graphics card error. When that happens I’ll be able to start toying around properly with my video camera as well and who knows … there was chat round these here parts of incorporating video somehow into the podcasts so stay tuned for that!

I’ll get to posting a bit regularly again I’ve just had a few hectic weeks in terms of work and other blah blah blahness, for now thats all I’ve really got for you… when I’m done with some artwork and things I’ve been doing I’ll be posting some of that, hope you’re all doing good whomever you are and wherever you are … thanks for reading.
