“Below and just to my right, tied to a stretcher and attached securely to the chopper’s

“Below and just to my right, tied to a stretcher and attached securely to the chopper’s skid, was the dead body of Che Guevara. On my wrist was his steel Rolex GMT Master with its red-and-blue bezel. In my breast pocket, wrapped in paper from my loose leaf notebook, was the partially smoked tobacco from his last pipe.”

-So wrote former CIA officer, Felix Rodriguez of his final moments with Marxist Revolutionary Che Guevara, in his now famous book ‘Shadow Warrior/the CIA Hero of a Hundred Unknown Battles’.

Seth Grossman, Owner of High End Watch Discounters, http://www.Essential-Watches.com, is full of cool and interesting Rolex facts like this, proving that, unlike many Watch dealers, he’s not just out to make a buck, he’s a true Luxury Watch aficionado. He adds: “you know, Felix Rodriguez lives in Miami these days, along with Che’s Rolex.” …Obviously he’s also into even the smallest details.

With over 15 years experience in high end Swiss & German Watches, Grossman has managed to grow what at first was a two man online operation, into a well established, highly reputable and hugely successful company, known worldwide. Knowing how personal a timepiece can be, http://www.Essential-Watches.com also exists in the physical, a showroom attached to their Beverly Hills office, means that anyone seeking a more intimate watch buying experience is not left out.

“Bill Clinton loves Audemars Piguet; Harrison Ford’s a Breitling guy, while Beverly Hills local Larry King wears a Ulysse Nardin GMT”. The staff at Essential-Watches make it their business to know exactly which brand and model the stars favor. With their flagship located in the heart of Beverly Hills, it’s a question they’re asked often.

As surprising as it is to find a team so well versed, it’s even more surprising to see how low the prices at Essential-Watches are. More often than not, prices on their huge inventory of Patek Philippe, Hublot, Rolex, Panerai, IWC…(the list goes on) watches are the lowest on the web. The Essential Watches now-famous Trade-In option, also gives those looking to switch out watches, access to an even greater discount.

“We’ve been selling Discounted High-End Watches on the Internet for years, which has allowed us to create an enormous network of dealers, both Domestic and International. Explains his right hand man, Fred Brown: “All of our suppliers are connected directly to us through The Essential Watches inventory database, allowing us to keep our prices accurate, while also comparing all separate vendors’ rates at one time. That, coupled with the amazing relationships our Management and Watch Specialists have forged, ensures we are always able to offer the most up-to-date discounts available.”

Determined to provide accurate and efficient information to both his staff and Essential Watches customers it’s a program that Grossman designed himself, and the easy access to International Dealers has proved invaluable. The Essential Watches team has certainly worked hard to earn their reputation as “Best Watch Dealers on The Web”, a reputation that hasn’t gone unnoticed. A Better Business Bureau Accredited Business, Members of the coveted Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, and Members of the International Watch & Jewelry Guild (IWJG), Essential Watches is also an EBay Platinum Power Seller, with 100% positive feedback.

A quality retailer that knows the importance of “good old fashioned” business values, Essential Watches still seals many deals with a handshake. At any given time in the day, at least one of Essential Watches’ Specialists is about town, personally picking up Rolex, Patek Phillipe and Audemars Piguet Watches, directly from Local Vendors. It’s this kind of old school personal touch that’s won Grossman the business, and extra special discounts from his suppliers, discounts he then passes on to the customer.

Consistently keeping the lowest luxury watch prices available is a lot of work, but work that the team at Essential Watches seems to enjoy. The quiet, calm and intimate Beverly Hills showroom does an impressive job of masking all the action going on behind the scenes. Phones ringing, speed-typing, and negotiating of all types, in English, Spanish, Italian & Russian, only interrupted now and again by witty comments and inter-office banter.

If Owner, Seth Grossman is the back bone of Essential Watches, then this upbeat, fast paced office is the heart. Acknowledging the importance of not just diversity, but also variety in business, he’s handpicked a team of all ages, hailing from all across the globe. While backgrounds may be different, what they all share is a passion for Fine Watches, Meeting people, and providing killer customer service. The rest, Grossman jokes is taught at the “Seth Grossman University of High End Watches”.

Something else that makes Essential Watches stand out from the crowd? Grossman’s team consists of even numbers of men and women. He’s not about to support the popular notion that the watch business is just for men. Pointing out that Rolex’s first celebrity endorser was a woman, 1927 English Channel swimmer Mercedes Gleitze, he adds that her campaign was used to illustrate the waterproof qualities of the Oyster Rolex, prompting the appearance of fish tanks in Rolex store fronts everywhere.

But these days, shoppers have more options than just purchasing in traditional stores. Essential Watches is one business that caters to all your High End Watch buying needs. Whether a first time buyer, or longtime aficionado, Essential Watches has you covered. If you prefer to purchase discount watches online, trade –in your Pre-Owned Rolex over the phone, or special request limited edition pieces in person, they’ll do all it takes to ensure your experience is as exquisite as the Watch you are purchasing.

IE-Lookahead-Bug
um die Funktionalität mal zusammenzufassen:

The incorrect behavior occurs if your page contains a JavaScript URL which spans exactly the 4096th byte of the HTTP response. If such a URL is present, under certain timing conditions the lookahead downloader will attempt to download a malformed URL consisting of the part of the URL preceding the 4096th byte combined with whatever text follows the 8192nd byte, up to the next quotation mark. Web developers encountering this problem will find that their logs contain requests for bogus URLs with long strings of URLEncoded HTML at the end.

Macetech’s ChronoDot is a Real Time Clock module for projects requiring highly accurate time k

Macetech’s ChronoDot is a Real Time Clock module for projects requiring highly accurate time keeping and measurement. The ChronoDot uses the DS3231 chip, which features a TCXO to compensate for variations in temperature which affect normal oscillators, like the ones in most microcontrollers. The DS3231 uses simple I2C commands and registers for storing and retrieving time, but also features a variable output that goes all the way down to 1.000 hz for low power, interrupt style timekeeping applications. With the provided watch battery, the ChronoDot can keep time in idle mode for up to 8 years.

Normally the ChronoDot comes mostly assembled, requiring you to only solder on the watch battery. However, due to a manufacturing mistake, Macetech is selling a version with the header pins on the wrong side they call the ChronoDoh. This module is currently nearly half off the regular price of $14.99, which makes it a great low cost addition to a project. Macetech has sent us a couple of these modules to demonstrate how functional they still are.

Because of this mistake, using these parts as a breadboard tool is made a little bit harder, as the silkscreen pin names are only on the “top” side. However, if a project is designed around this part, or if alternate tools such as a wire ribbon or probes were used, this problem would disappear. It would also be possible to desolder the header pins and remount them, but there is always the possibility of lifting the pads, or otherwise causing damage to the parts whenever desoldering is involved.

We set up one of the ChronoDoh modules as demonstrated, and pinned out the I2C connection using a “right side up” ChronoDoh as reference. The Dot must have an external VCC signal to respond to I2C commands, and will only silently keep time when powered by the watch battery. For the ChronoDo(h/t), sample Arduino code and schematics are provided on Macetech’s website, making initial set up and testing a breeze. We used a Teensy++ running the Teensyduino loader to simplify the process. The sample code simply displayed the time reported over I2C by the Dot, which seemed to be the time since the Dot first received 5V power (when it was most likely initialized). The chip reported that the time was 00:01:55, which meant that it was time to update the registers. Unfortunately, this is where the sample code leaves off, though the provided documentation does provide a list of all of the relevant registers (page 11 of the datasheet).

After setting the I2C registers, the ChronoDoh was correctly keeping time, so we decided to test the accuracy. We set up the other module, put it in our freezer for a week, then tested the two against each other. Wonderfully, they both reported identical times. Though unscientific, this is backed up by the ongoing accuracy test by the makers of the DS3231, which claims an accuracy of “± 2ppm at 0C to +40C (~1 minute per year)”.

These breakout boards are a great way to test out this chip, which has tons of applications, on an easy to use breakout board, which is what Macetech does best.

Hack a Day review disclosure: Macetech gave us a couple free ChronoDohs to review for this post.

I went through a period back in 2006-2007 where I just wanted to collect a tonne of game posters for my walls. You know, to liven the place up a bit, make it seem a little more homely. These aren’t all my posters I have, but some of the others were of games I didn’t really want to support this whole-heartedly or didn’t have room for on the walls simply because they were too damn big. Games like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Mario Kart Wii.

Most were from magazines, some of which I would pick off the shelf for the free poster advertisement. The Mario Galaxy one on the left was from NGamer, whom I have stopped reading because of a really stupid bias towards Nintendo and the ability to love anything Shigeru throws at his customers. They wrote a four page article on the ignorance of those who couldn’t understand Wii Music. Yeah…

<img title="Mario Galaxy and GTA4" src="http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t297/kowbrainz/smggta.jpg" alt="I like Galaxy a lot.
The following ones aren’t really posters but I thought I’d throw them in anyway, some framed and signed pictures courtesy of Rare. Bottom one is actually my sister’s one from a contest at Spiral Mountain signed by Steve Mayles. Top is mine won from a Banjo-Kazooie Face Off in 2008, where I came second with a time of 3 hours 7 minutes I believe, signed by Ryan Stevenson. It’s all pretty cool stuff, I’d say.

So there you have it. I may post updates to this blog in the future depending on what I decide to add to my room or take down, but hopefully you’ve enjoyed this little insight into my nerdy life. Feel free to post any posters of your own in the comments, whether that just be a list of their descriptions in text or full on images. Thanks!

Crono bravely follows in pursuit, but the world into which he emerges is one of four centuries ago. In Chrono Trigger prepare yourself to journey into the forgotten past, distant future, and even to the very End of Time.

The Worlds of Past, Present and Future
In Chrono Trigger you’ll journey back to Prehistory (65,000,000 B.C.) where humans and reptiles battle to wipe each other from existence. Antiquity (12,000 B.C.) is an age where the world is divided between people whose continent is buried in snow, and the magical kingdom of Zeal, a highly advanced civilization. The Middle Ages (600 A.D.) is an era of swords and sorcery, a dark time when the armies of Fiendlord rule over the land.

The Present (1000 A.D.) is the time period in which Crono, Lucca and Marle live. It is a bright and peaceful age. However, in the Future (2300 A.D.), an era of despair has taken hold with rogue machines ruling the world. After the day of the apocalypse in 1999 A.D., the prosperous civilization of humanity crumbled and the remaining people struggle to stay alive. And, finally, there remains the End of Time — a place with no era to call its own. This confluence of time’s streams transcends spatiotemporal boundaries. It is here at the gravitational center for all temporal flotsam that Spekkio — the Master of War — serves as your guide on time’s treacherous roads.

 Battle Systems and gameplay
This game utilizes a revised version of the groundbreaking Active Time Battle (ATB) System. Chrono Trigger features exhilarating combat in which the clock is constantly ticking. Characters must first wait as the ATB gauges charge, and then perform an action. This makes strategic timing a crucial element in your battle plan. In addition to standard attacks, each character has an array of special Tech skills and powerful combos known as Dual and Triple Techs. Cooperate with other characters to unleash over 50 unique and devastating moves!

“The Quintessential Chrono Trigger” 2009-09-29
By A. J. basch (usa)
OK – so maybe it isn’t the ideal quintessential version, but it is the best one out there so far.

The game originally came out on the S-NES, was ported to the Sony PS with beautiful animated cut-scenes, and now it is a DS Game with the most features to date.

The game itself was flawless on the Super Nintendo. The PS version had lag-time due to CD-ROM load. The DS Version boasts a beautiful touchscreen control scheme, includes the cut-scenes, lots of unlockable informational extras, extra quests, a new english translation, and a new ending.

I have replayed Chrono Trigger several times on SNES and emulator, and I had a blast replaying it on the DS. The new english translation is not essential, but I highly enjoyed it! The new ending was the most exciting aspect of the game as it expands upon the original story.

Did I mention that Chrono Trigger, the story, the characters, the imagination, the style are all beautiful, classic, and iconic. Well they are.

This is easily one of the best rpgs, no, best games of all times. I really wish they would do a quality motion picture big screen adaption. It would be awesome to see Hayao Miyazaki and his amazing Ghibli Artists bring this thing to life. Anyways I digress.

The new quests are tedious, tedious, tedious! They do not add anything. They really suck! But the new ending that is unlocked is worth it!

I cannot recommend this game enough (especially this version). Yes, ideally, they would have remade the game in 3D with voice-overs,and done well, that would have been MUCH better; still this is the best version to own right now.

Chrono Trigger is a classic, and it still more than holds up to this day. Now if only they will remake it with enhanced graphics or a big screen movie adaption, I will get that!

“Just like the good ol’ days…” 2009-09-10
By William J. Laky (New Jersey)
Having played some of the previous “throwback” games for the DS and Advance, I was a little skeptical about playing Chrono Trigger through again. Chrono Trigger had a special place in my heart growing up and I didn’t want to ruin it! Playing Final Fantasy IV through again for me was kind of like watching a movie from your childhood years later. You remember it being awesome, but then you watch it again and are unimpressed. All of this is to say that part of me wanted to leave Chrono in my memories, but my sister got it for me for my birthday even though I am 28 years old so I couldn’t resist!

Boy am I glad that I got it. Chrono Trigger is everything that I remembered it to be. The storyline, in my opinion, is still among the best that Squaresoft/SquareEnix has ever put out. The SNES was the pinnacle of the console RPG in my time period and Chrono Trigger is just one more example of why I always say that!

I know that some people can find the fights repetitive, but those of us who are used to console RPGs expect this from the game. Still, you can speed up various aspects of the combat (such as text, combat speed, and enemy action during menu usage) which really picks up the pace.

The cut scenes that were added in are okay. They are a little bit too “anime” if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t have been upset if they didn’t add them at all, but I wasn’t disappointed with them either. The split screen makes for a user friendly gaming experience, the music is still catchy and among the best to grace a video game, and the various sub-plots are captivating. Would I recommend Chrono Trigger? You betcha! Great game. Buy it today.

Now if they would only re-release the original Secret of Mana for DS…

“It’s About Time” 2009-08-27
By Strategos (In Space above Planet Earth)
There are many who feel that Chrono Trigger is the greatest game ever made. Certainly it is one of the greatest RPGs ever made, in my own experience equaled only perhaps by Final Fantasy VII (never did care for any other Final Fantasy games). It’s a rolicking-good-time for fans of adventure and sci-fi, and as RPGs go a whole lot of fun. More than that, the genius of its design and brilliance of its story is not debatable. It’s legendary. Even better, it makes for a game that’s fun!

When I first started the game I was wondering exactly how the game would make me feel. I like the deep story of RPGs, but hate dungeon crawling, random battles, and that very irritating feeling of having absolutely no idea where to go next to get the story moving again. I need not have feared, though. Chrono trigger has no random battles, it’s castles and dungeons are brief not every-lasting, and thankfully, you will always know where to go next.

The story starts with you in your village on the day of the millenial fair, and you quickly meet a girl there and (using your friend’s new teleportation machine) find the girl gone and yourself back in time trying to rescue a queen who has been kidnapped (and who your friend has been mistaken for because {surprise, surprise} she is the crown princess and the descent of that queen. You have some adventures come back to your time, get put on trial for kidnapping the princess, and see one of the greatest scenes in any videogame ever, as all your actions in the first hour of the game are played back as evidence against or for you. Eventually you get out of that situation (one way or another) and find yourself again traveling through time, only to find that the world was destroyed by a monster far in the future, unless you can stop it…

The prologue is awesome but the main story of the game is really amazing. You have all the classic trapping of a great legend, from a hero turned into an animal, to an ancient sword that has to be reforged, to a princess and an unlikely hero out to save the world. That’s enough to make a good game. What propels Chrono Trigger into greatness is the power the story is given by the strength of the characters and writing, and absolutely fantastic presentation and gameplay. The game is loaded with humor character, from the little girl accusing you of not rescuing her cat at the trial, to a tiny furry creature who is the master magician (and keeps popping up in different times doing everything from hiking on the mountain of monsters to playing rag-time on the piano in an inn), from the goblins who wonder why you just popped out of a time portal in their closet to the Frog who talks in noble Shakesparian and the cute robot you find in the future. There were so many times when I played this game and felt real joy in the moments it presented. When I first discovered the robot in the future and his theme played, I felt attached to him instantly (he’s so cuuuute), and when the hero frog leapt off saying he had failed to protect the queen, I felt so bad for him (he was really handy with sword and saved my bacon). That’s the kind of thing that gets to you. I haven’t felt that way about an RPG since Xenosaga’s Cyborg said “Call me Ziggy”, and Final Fantasy VII had girls asking a certain brooding hero whether he remembered his promise or would be their bodyguard.

It cannot be overstated how much the lack of random battles, and the constant boss battles (which you will almost always win) increase the amount of fun you have with this game. The excellent battle system which highly encourages teamwork amoung your party keeps you constantly on your toes and nervous that you could lose the battle, and never gets tedious or frustrating. The graphics may be old-school, but that about as good sprite-based graphics get. The music is very atmospheric and catchy, and the main themes are just beautiful. The story twists and turns, and how you play can determine the way certain events unfold (the game has more than one ending and you can even play past the “end”). But above all, the story and characters are just impossible not to love if you like a good story. If you like RPGs and don’t mind if they’re a little old, you will LOVE this game.

Didn’t think so.

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Despite it being my final year of school, I’ve played quite a bit in the last ten months or so. Some new titles, some older ones. Not really earning anything I’d call reliable income at the moment so a lot of my purchases are games from two or more years ago that have dropped in price. It’s a decent tactic all round, but especially worthwhile in Australia where games are overpriced to hell. The example I’ll always use to put this into perspective is GTA IV. Back at its release date in early 2008 when the Aussie and American dollar were almost 1:1, Americans paid US $60, we paid AUS $120. No-fucking-thanks.

Here’s a quick run down of the games I’ve experienced for the first time over these months though, not necessarily new titles, along with a sentence review for each. Aaaaaand… go.

Megaman 9: Brutal gameplay with death traps designed to catch you out the first time through, but ultimately rewarding and fun. 4/5
Portal Still Alive: Brilliantly unique and innovative fun, one of my new favourite games. 5/5
Braid: Fantastically emotional music alongside some absolutely mind bending puzzles. 5/5
Gears of War 2: Bit too much emotional story for a Gears game but very rewarding and satisfying gameplay. 5/5
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption: Great controls and visuals but not the way I’d like this trilogy to be wrapped up. 4/5
Professor Layton & the Curious Village: Fantastic collection of brainteasers with a really neat narrative and a really cool cartoony visual style to tie them together. 5/5
Wii Fit: Not really the game for me but all the same there are better methods of exercise I’d recommend. 3/5
Bioshock: Brilliant claustrophobic environment with a gripping narrative. 5/5
The Maw: Cool platform/adventure game albeit a bit short and lacking imagination. 4/5
Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise: More like an expansion pack of the original game, but still good for franchise newcomers. 4/5
Quantum of Solace DS: Rubbish bargain bin game fully controlled via the touchscreen with the DS held on its side. 1/5
Chrono Trigger DS: Easily amoung the best RPGs of all time, should’ve been released in PAL regions a lot earlier. 5/5
Pokemon Platinum: Some nice additions, probably the definitive Pokemon game, but if you have Diamond/Pearl and aren’t a hardcore fan it isn’t worth it. 3/5
Half Life 2 Xbox Edition: Good bargain-priced game, but this version’s lag and visuals make me want to get the Orange Box instead. 3/5.

So there you go. And even though that’s a pretty big list for one blog, there’s so many things I’ve missed out on that it’s really getting on my nerves. I wrote up a list of games I really had to play and/or beat according to the top lists of others a little while ago, and it’s already in the eighties. Some of the games on the list are pretty embarrassing to not have played yet, but all the same if there’s a bunch of classics out there like Chrono Trigger that I’m still yet to taste, bring them the fuck on.

Lembra daquele “Chrono Trigger Medley” da Video Game Orchestra Chamber Group? E dessa “Scars of Time”?

Então vem a “Scars of Time”… precisa mesmo que o próprio maestro toque violão?

“Chrono Trigger & Cross Medley”

“A Premonition” ~ “Wind Scene” ~ “Frog’s Theme” ~ “Battle with Magus” (Chrono Trigger) ~ “Scars of Time” (Chrono Cross)

De resto, Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Cross), Masaru Shiina (THE iDOLM@STER), Inon Zur (Dragon Age: Origins e Prince of Persia), Cris Velasco (God of War II), Wataru Hokoyama (Afrika) e Kow Otani (Shadow of the Colossus) estavam lá.

- “Radical Dreamers” (Chrono Cross)
Original: “Radical Dreamers”

- “Shadow of the Colossus”

(THE iDOLM@STER)

Prefiro a original.

- “Metal Gear Solid 2 / 3 Theme” (Metal Gear Solid 2 e 3)
Originais: “Metal Gear Solid Main Theme MGS 3 Version” ~ “Metal Gear Solid Main Theme” ~ “Metal Gear Solid Main Theme MGS 3 Version”

A decisão, a meu ver, faz sentido.

A harpa e a flauta cintilam.

As trompas relembram “Sora” e fazem a transição para a tristonha “The Other Promise”.

Senti falta, principalmente considerando que a suíte é exclusiva de Secret of Mana, das músicas mais agitadas e/ou animadas, como “The Color of the Summer Sky”, “Calm Before the Storm”, “Flight Into the Unknown” e especialmente “Leave Time for Love” e “The Second Truth from the Left”.

Arranjo e orquestração: Jonne Valtonen e Roger Wanamo

“Fighting” do Final Fantasy VII?

“The Kez Analysis” is a small opinion article for an aspiring Game Designer, giving is take on the state of the industry through the reading of current popular (and up and coming) IP and major game companies.

The target of my first article is Square-Enix:

This popped up into my mind while checking out the details of the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, X360). But I’ll get into that a little later. Now let’s start with the analysis itself.

Past: Origins and the Rise of Squaresoft

Square was formed in 1983 by Masafumi Miyamoto, and their first great hit was Final Fantasy, which later would become one of the greatest RPG IP’s (even though their first two projects were The Death Trap and Will: The Death Trap II).

Curious Fact 1: Square released 18 games between 1984 and 1987 before the release of the original Final Fantasy.

“Final Fantasy I” was designed by Hironobu Sakaguchi and was supposed to be his last project for Squaresoft, and the series name came from just that, it was the his last title design to save the company from financial ruin. As fate would have it, the game was so successful that Sakaguchi kept designing Final Fantasy games until the “V”. After that designing passed on to Yoshinori Kitase, while Sakaguchi served only as director until he left in 2001.

A screenshot from the game that shot Square into greatness

With the Final Fantasy games, Square pretty much revolutionized the CRPG-genre, bringing innovation, and above all great storytelling. Of the First five games, my personal favorite in Final Fantasy II. The leveling up system pleased me quite a bit and the story wasn’t all bad in itself, but the following four installments would show what Square could do.

Final Fantasy VI, my favorite Final Fantasy game ever came out in 1994 on the SNES was the warm-up to the one that most consider a milestone in videogaming history: Final Fantasy VII. VII was the first numbered Final Fantasy game to come on a non-Nintendo platform and the first one in 3D. The tale of Cloud and friends sold to this date almost 10 million copies.

Good ol’ SNES days

How the hell do you fly with only one wing?

Following that came Final Fantasy VIII and IX, all under Sony jurisdiction and for a while it seemed everything would be well as gamers would have a company that they could count on to deliever complex and engaging storylines and compelling gameplay.

Honorable Mentions from the Past: It would be a crime to end the past section without mentioning a few titles like Chrono Trigger (1994) and Chrono Cross (2000) or the ‘Mana’ Saga that are considered by a few to be superior to Final Fantasy games and also brought a lot to the CRPG genre.[b]

Curious Fact 2: My favorite Square game (Chrono Cross) feature over 50 playable characters and 27 different endings. How’s that for replayability?

Curious Fact 3: Many of the Final Fantasy (series) fans argue over which is the best game of the series and usually the two candidates are VI and VII.

The Enix Merger and the growth to Industry Giant

Over the years, Square and its Final Fantasy IP had a huge rivalry with Enix and its Dragon Quest IP, but in April 2003, that would come to an end thanks to the Square and Enix merger that would form the industry giant: Square-Enix.

To be quite honest Square had started to dissapoint with its IP’s, mainly with Final Fantasy X and the extremely girly (also considered pure fan-service) Final Fantasy X-2.

Fanservice!

Many thought that the merger with Enix would turn the tide around, but unfortunately, that would not be so. Square Enix (which from now on I will refer to as SE) started milking it’s Final Fantasy IP for all it’s worth while the Enix part of the company started re-making its Dragon Quest IP’s – quite successfully to.

In my point of view, Final Fantasy XII was a huge disappointment in both terms of story and originality. Sure it was astounding graphically, but the rest didn’t impress. It did nothing to separate itself from the rest of the CRPGs.

More recently SE tried to explore new IPs in the form of: “Infinite Undiscovery” and “The Last Remnant” but again failed to impress.

Honorable Mention in this Section: I mentioned the famed Dragon Quest IP from Enix, but could not end without mentioning the Star Ocean IP which has delievered very solid games over the years.

The future…

Now SE has acquired the dying Eidos Int. and gained a few new IP’s in the process, if they will correctly cash in on them or not remains to be seen.

As for what’s to come, no one can really tell… Final Fantasy XIII, although graphically astounding, seems to follow in the blandness of Final Fantasy XII and that can never be good. The MIA Final Fantasy Versus XIII keeps me more hoping than XIII for the series. But then again, I can always be wrong. Still, as long as Dragon Quest remakes continue to sell like hotcakes, I don’t think SE will be in any trouble soon.

The Future?

The rest is up to them, and we will watch it unfold as gamers we are.

This article is just the opinion of one man and an opinion is worth just that. All feedback is welcome, any suggestions or correction can be stated in the comments
