The guys also discussed Shane Battier’s prediction that the NBA will one day have a female player.

Sports Time Ohio and the Cleveland Indians’ play-by-play announcer, Matt Underwood, called in to talk about the Tribe after their first series against the Blue Jays. Matt talked with Kiley and Booms about Brett Myers struggles last night. Matt said despite Myers giving up 4 home runs, he was pleased with the team overall, being able to continually battle in last night’s game. Matt talked about how Myers pitched poorly, and against a team like Toronto, you can’t do as they will expose mediocre pitching. Matt explained Terry Francona’s decision to send Myers back out rather than going to the bullpen earlier. Kiley and Booms asked Matt about rookie Trevor Bauer, who gets the start in place of Scott Kazmir on Friday. Matt talked about Bauer’s stuff, and just how long we can expect Bauer to be in the rotation.

6:44 - The Browns front office shocked the city of Cleveland, yet again, by announcing the signing of former first round pick out of Auburn, Jason Campbell. Campbell, who played quarterback for Norv Turner, is signed to presumably provide competition for Brandon Weeden. Kiley and Booms discussed this move, and whether or not Campbell is a motivator, or a replacement.

7:23 - Kiley and Booms continued to debate the merits of the Jason Campbell trade, and raised the question why the Browns didn’t attempt to bring in Matt Hassleback, a more accomplished backup and tutor for Brandon Weeden. The guys opened up the lines and allowed callers to either vent their frustration, or provide the optimistic outlook in bringing Campbell in.

Cleveland State Vikings head coach Gary Waters called in to give his analysis of the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament and preview the Sweet 16, which starts tomorrow. Gary talked about Florida Gulf Coast, the fifteen seed and one of the Cinderellas remaining in the tournament. Gary gave credit to the NCAA selection committee by sticking to the numbers, which allowed these mid-majors like LaSalle and FGCU into the tournament over the big name schools like Maryland and Kentucky, which may have not been as deserving. Gary talked about how LaSalle and Florida Gulf Coast is “playing free” and no restrictions, allowing them to play their game, but also have fun, “like they’re playing AAU ball.” Gary also commented on Ohio State and the rest of the Big 10 teams remaining in the tournament. Gary talked about the Big 10 style of play and how it is leading to success in the tournament, particularly for Ohio State, who Gary predicted could make the Final Four following the exit of top seed Gonzaga in the West Region.

CBS college basketball analyst Clark Kellogg called in from Dayton, one of the tournament sites, to preview the NCAA Tournament. Clark talked about the excitement level for the tournament this year, with multiple teams having a legitimate chance to make a run in the tournament. Clark attributed this to the tumultuous regular season, which featured multiple teams at number one throughout the season. Clark talked about the road atmosphere, and how that won’t be a factor for these teams with the tournaments neutral sites and odd times of some games. Clark talked about the Mountain West conference and the various teams they are sending to the dance this year, and highlighted some teams not many are talking about, but Clark says could make a run in the NCAA Tournament. Clark also commented on his Ohio State Buckeyes, and what the boys from Columbus have to do to keep advancing.

Cleveland State Vikings head coach Gary Waters called in to give his opinion the NCAA Tournament, specifically the mid-majors. Coach Waters will join Kiley and Booms every Wednesday throughout the NCAA Tournament. Coach talked about the play-in games, and answered whether the teams in the play-in games are actually in the NCAA Tournament. Coach said he hates to use the term “play-in,” and suggests changing the name to remove some of the negative stereotypes with “play-in” teams. Gary answered what position he would start with if he was building the perfect tournament team, saying the point guard is such a valuable tool, and likened a good point guard to a starting quarterback. Kiley asked Coach Waters how much basketball he watches, apart from film from opposing teams, and coach admitted “a true coach becomes a student of the game.”
