A FOOTBALL steward has been banned from every ground in Britain for a year after throwing a flare onto a pitch.

The court order means Michael Smith, 21, will lose his pitch-side security job with SPL side Falkirk.

He was arrested at a high-tempered derby match between rivals Linlithgow Rose and Bo’ness United when cops spotted the smoke bomb being hurled onto the pitch.

It wasn’t hard for officers to trace the arc smoke back to Smith, who was fined £1,000 and branded “mindless” by a Sheriff today (Thurs).

A Falkirk insider said last night: “This is exactly the kind of thing we employ stewards to stop other people doing, never mind doing it themselves.

“It’s completely stupid, but stewards are never the brightest anyway.

“We’ll be speaking to police, but it will be an instant dismissal.”

Smith’s antics forced last month’s game at Prestonfield Park to be delayed while police cleared the 15-inch long flare from the field.

Fiscal Depute Alastair Learmonth told Livingston Sheriff Court that Smith had been seen in the ground’s away end among the Bo’ness supporters.

Culpable and reckless

He said: “The ground was mainly made up of adults with young children.

“The flair appeared to come from over a wall and landed on the pitch.

“The game was delayed while a police officer went on to the pitch to retrieve the flare.

“Mr Smith was traced and made a full admission to throwing the flare.”

Smith, of Stewart Avenue in Bo’ness, Falkirk, pled guilty to culpable and reckless conduct and breach of the peace by throwing a flare into Prestonfield Park on October 10 in court yesterday.

He got the flare from a paintball centre, according to defence agent Darryl Lovie.

Mr Lovie said: “If anyone should know better, it is Mr Smith as he is, somewhat ironically, employed at Falkirk football stadium on Saturdays as a steward.

“Whether or not this conviction will affect his ability to do so remains to be seen.

“As I understand it, this device can only give off a plume of smoke; there was no fire, and if this item were to strike someone, it wouldn’t cause injury.

“It is normally used for paintballing, and while paintballing is a controlled environment, this is not a dangerous device or explosive.

“That’s not to take away from the fact that clearly this occurred in a largely populated football match.”

“Mindless behaviour”

He also said Smith had just left a full-time job with Scottish Widows, with the aim of going to college to become an engineer.

Now jobless, Smith claims he wants to start a racing car business when he finishes studying.

Sheriff Douglas Kinloch told him: “What you did was reckless and caused disruption.

“This is the kind of mindless behaviour that spoils the enjoyment of people who like to spend an afternoon being entertained at the football.

“It is very sad that this was carried out by someone who works as a football steward and should therefore have known better.

“There will be a substantial fine, but I also consider it an appropriate and just punishment to impose a football banning order.

“You will be banned from attending any football matches for one year.”

A Falkirk FC spokesman said: “I can confirm that Mr Smith is employed by the club as a security guard.

“Once we get confirmation from the police, we will be dealing with this internally.”

Chuck is a great TV show. It also has some awesome quotes. This was a quote from the Thanksgiving episode, when everyone was giving thanks. Too bad for him chuck was lying. Bryce was mot dead, was in his bedroom, and was making out with his new girlfriend. It wasn’t a good day.

In fact, Chuck never has a good day since he became a spy….

It was just a piece of junk. What was I suppose to do with this rubbish? All it did productively was sit in the garage and collect rust and dust. That is how I felt about that little red toy car. It brought back good memories but attached were sharp thorns that took away the bright colors. This all had to do with the accident. The moment the car collided with my wife and daughter. It completely changed everything.

The house was a silent as the wind blowing through the desert. As empty as a black hole sucking up empty matter in space. How can so much pain be brought upon one person? Never would I have imagined this to happen to me. Never had I told my daughter I love her. Rarely, had I told my wife I cherish her.

I would sit fixated on the couch thinking back to the distinct laughter of my sweet little girl with blonde curls chasing my wife outside near the apple tree. The twisted memory was just too much. It overwhelmed me and I had to quit my job. The motivation to drive around delivering mail to others was just too much to handle. I felt as if my purpose in life had just ceased to exist.

That was all before Chuck came along. I was out gardening when my old friend asked how a man could gain so much weight in just a year and that I looked like a beached whale. This was far from the truth since I had always been tall and thin but even more so since food was something I forced myself to do. I gave him a nod and said, “So what brings you over here Chuck. I thought you were living in Texas.” He simply replied, “Well things just didn’t work out down there but I was in the area and thought I would just give you a helping hand with whatever you needed for the day.”

This was the first person who had truly made an effort to help since the accident. I wasn’t even sure if he knew. At that moment, I felt some weight be released from my shoulders. I replied, “Well, I’m working on digging a ditch for irrigation that I could probably use some help with.”

That is how it started. Chuck continued to help me with projects and with moving on. He helped me get through the sorrow by frequently lending a helping hand and by his supportive demeanor.
I will never be able to completely leave that past behind but I am back to work and able to find motivation in living everyday. I see the color again. By letting go of the hurt, I was able to move forward.

I think these posts are becoming a recap type thing just because school is really getting all my writing attention. So random thoughts!

• Dancing With The Stars finale was this week. And for the first time in a while, I didn’t really care who won…in the bad way. ‘Cuz like last season, I didn’t care if Shawn or Gilles or Melissa won because they were all deserving (even though yes I did really want Shawn to win). But this season, especially after the lackluster performance finale on Monday, I truly just did not care. Period. Maybe it was because of the fact that for the first time in 5 seasons we didnt have a Hough or Ballas in the finale (which always makes for completely entertaining freestyles). I dunno, overall DWTS Season 9 was just kinda meh for me
• Speaking of meh, SYTYCD Season 6 has been off for me somehow. Maybe its the fact that I’m so used to it being a summer show that having it in the fall has thrown me off? Dancers are great, dances are good…there’s just something somewhere in this season that isn’t sitting well with me and I can’t pinpoint it.
• FOX announced their midseason schedule and all I have to say is….I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL FREAKIN’ APRIL FOR NEW EPISODES OF GLEE????!!!! after it’s fall finale on Dec. 9th, that’s like 4.5 months of Glee withdrawal!! DAMN YOU AMERICAN IDOL! you did this to Fringe last season too!!
• on the upside (and completely different network) Chuck is back in January!!! YAY!!!
• How I Met Your Mother – Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap….AWESOME!! Slapsgiving is now ranked as my 2nd favourite TV holiday, right behind Chrismukkah (although granted I don’t remember other TV created holidays lol)
• Oh! How could I forget the American Music Awards….the awards show that no one really cares about (I blame the totally ambiguous categories…like T.I. and Eminem were nominated for Best Pop/Rock Male Artist? WTF?) Performances were pretty solid, technical sound problems here and there but overall solid. Kelly Clarkson = Amazing! Carrie Underwood = Amazing! Speaking of Carrie Underwood’s performance of Cowboy Casanova, I totally loved it solely because she hired Tracy Shibata AND Dominic Chaiduang as 2 of her dancers (YAY Paris By Night dancers!!!!) Other dancers I loved seeing on the awards show: Nico Archambault & Natalli Reznik from SYTYCD Canada S1 dancing for Janet Jackson, Courtney Galliano from SYTYCD S4 dancing for Adam Lambert, Mark Kanemura from SYTYCD S4 dancing for Lady Gaga, Zach Brazenas from Paris By Night dancing for Jennifer Lopez
• Back to Glee…I continue to love it and their song choices. Kudos for using Jennifer Paige’s song Crush. I forgot how much I used to love that song. So damn catchy.
• After a boring start, Survivor had 3 completely kickass episodes. Early merge was a FANTASTIC idea!
• I’ve completely given up on Heroes. I just stopped watching/caring.
• I’ve started watching Modern Family…HILARIOUS!

I think that’s all I’ve got. Nothing else is really standing out in my mind right now. At least, nothing TV related…maybe I’ll do a music post later if I get bored writing papers for class.

Ein weiterer Arcade-Klassiker ist im Anmarsch: Missile Command (oder ursprünglich auch Armageddon) von Atari. Bereits 1980 erschien das Spiel und wurde sogar noch bis 2005 weiterhin auf insgesamt 24 Plattformen veröffentlicht, zuletzt auf dem Nintendo DS in einer Atari-Klassiker-Sammlung. Es erschien in der sogenannten goldenen Ära der Computer- bzw. genauer gesagt, Arcade-Spiele und gilt selbst darin als eines der erfolgreichsten überhaupt. Indiz dafür ist beispielsweise das Auftauchen im Action-Film Terminator 2 und in der Nerdserie Chuck wurde dem Spiel sogar eine ganze Folge gewidmet.

Ziel ist es Städte bzw. Raumbasen, welche am unteren Bildschirmrand auf einer Art Mond oder Planet stationiert sind, zu beschützen. Dafür stehen einem drei Abwehrraketensysteme zur Verfügung, die jedoch auf jeweils 10 Schuss begrenzt sind. Man muss pro Level also mit insgesamt 30 Raketen auskommen, um die von oben herabfallenden feindlichen Geschosse zu zerstören. Als weitere Schwierigkeit fliegen ab und zu Bomber und Satelliten über die Basis hinweg, welche ebenfalls mit Raketen ausgerüstet sind und die Stützpunkte dementsprechend angreifen. Diese Raketen gilt es mithilfe eines Fadenkreuzes anzuvisieren und zu beschießen, um die Städte bzw. die Abwehrbatterien zu beschützen. Aufgrund der Bewegung der Geschosse gestaltet sich das natürlich schwieriger, als man zuerst denken mag, aber mit etwas Übung hat man die Winkel schnell raus. Schafft man es allerdings nicht rechtzeitig einer der Raketen abzuschießen, muss man sich leider von einer Stadt bzw. Raketenbasis verabschieden und somit geht einem, zumindest bei letzterem, wertvolle Munition verloren. Am Ende eines Levels kommt der Beschuss zum Erliegen und die übrig gebliebenen Städte und Raketen werde zum Punktekonto addiert – bleibt nichts stehen, ist das Spiel vorbei. Beim Erreichen von 10.000 Punkte erhält man eine neue Stadt und dadurch auch ein Leben mehr. Jedoch bleibt auch der Schwierigkeitsgrad nicht unverändert: Die Geschosse fallen schneller herab und auch für andere Gemeinheiten ist im weiteren Verlauf gesorgt.

Im Gegensatz zur Urversion braucht man im Flashspiel nur noch mit der Maus über den Bildschirm fahren und klicken, wenn eine Abwehrrakete gezündet werden soll. Damals musste man sogar noch für die drei verschiedenen Abwehrbatterien den jeweils richtigen Knopf drücken und gesteuert wurde mit einem Trackball. Eine moderne Fassung namens Lunar Command findet ihr hier. Und zu guter Letzt natürlich noch das Video:

I haven’t been watching much TV lately. Reruns of Leverage on occasion, the occasional Biggest Loser episode. (I’m an addict! I can’t stop myself! I feel so unclean!) Mostly, I’m just biding my time until Chuck returns (NBC didn’t bring it back early and no one told me, right? RIGHT?).

But I’d heard about this show, White Collar, right? And it’s got Bryce Larkin from Chuck, right? And he’s playing this con man who works for the FBI. I’m like, hey! Con man, FBI? The explosions are practically guaranteed.

And then someone would throw themselves through the air seconds before things burst into flames.

Sadly, after watching two episodes, I saw there was only one explosion and it was really lame. Also, it was telegraphed from 20 miles away. As. Was. Everything. Else.

I went into the show expecting some fun times. A little con here, a little gunplay there, a little Bryce Larkin doing cool spy stuff.

You know, like bleeding all over a computer.

Wrong. Damn. Show.

There was no conning. Well, hardly any conning. No interesting conning, anyway. No gunplay. I mean, it is called “White Collar,” which is like, what, business crimes? But still, guns!! And did Bryce Larkin do anything interesting??! No! He moped about his girlfriend who is a trapped in a really boring season-long side arc/his lameass motivation and smirked a bit.

Not that there's anything wrong with his smirk, it's just not as entertaining as watching him jump over stuff and shoot people.

And, to add insult to injury, the pilot featured that guy. That guy has been in episodes of my favorite shows (Battlestar Galactica, Burn Notice, Leverage) and I didn’t like him then! What made White Collar think I would like him in a much, much weaker show? Look, I know you Fireflyers/Whedonites have a soft spot for that guy, but he always plays the same smarmy guy, which is fine and hooray for finding a niche, but stop being on every show, Jesus.

Seriously, I am sick of seeing you on my television screen.

Plus (and this was really annoying), White Collar cast Tiffani Thiessen as the boring FBI guy’s boring perfect wife, and so the whole time, I kept going, “Hey, when did she drop the -Amber?”

And the suspenders! What happened to the suspenders?!

I was considering watching a third episode to see if things picked up, but then I decided no, because if a television show can’t do a fashion week episode and make me care, then what could they possibly do to improve it? Zombies and ninjas can’t save everything, you know.

I’m sure you know by now that everyone’s favorite accidental spy, Chuck Bartowski, is coming back to us sooner than we thought!  January 10 (a Sunday), CHUCK premieres with 2 episodes, and the premiere celebration continues into its regular timeslot on Monday the 11th.  Here are some promos to get you revved up!

We say yes, and so does Ben McKenzie: “People just need to watch it, and after 15 minutes, you’ll decide whether you like it or not. If you’re into a sort of grittier, darker cop show without the sheen that a lot of networks put on their shows, you’ll like it. It’s very character driven, it’s hard-hitting, there’s a lot of action, but there’s also some romance, so it’s a real show you can follow week to week.” And maybe if you start watching, TNT will take note and order up some more episodes (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

Chuck is going to visit Bart’s grave on the anniversary of his death, and when he gets there, he won’t be the only one paying his respects. Any guesses on who’ll pop up? I’m hearing that not one but two family members could be making surprising returns.

How’s this: A source tells me Haley and Quinn’s sister Taylor is going to come back to Tree Hill.

Agreed! It is way better than season one, in case any of you are missing it. I’m told there’s a sex scandal in the works: Naomi is going to accuse a teacher of sexual harassment.

Irene in Newport News, Va.: I’m loving White Collar! Any scoop?
Ever since the White Collar pilot, we’ve found that the everyday eps of this USA series have been a smidgen flimsier than we’d like, but the midseason finale on Dec. 4 is the sharp and snappy standard we’d like to see from the show. What happens? Well, Neal (Matthew Bomer) is finally confronted with a criminal nemesis worthy of his talents, Elizabeth Burke’s (Tiffani Thiessen) presence on the show starts to make sense, and there is a huge (huge!) reveal about Agent Burke (Tim McKay) that involves something pretty important from Neal’s past.
