I always seem to attract unwanted attention.

First of all, here is a rant on the topic of public transport. I leave Waterford at 1820, arrive in Balbriggan at 10.50. On a Sunday, I leave at 1800 and arrive back at 10. Something is amiss. Firstly, my train was replaced from Kildare to Heuston by a bus due to engineering works. As I got off the replacement bus, what happened? My Luas back to the city centre pulled away from the stop. Missed it! Then whilst waiting at the stop, another so-and-so who would hang around the stop, how should I say it, asked me for my “fucking” headphones. I continued to read my book as I know, it is best to say nothing to these people. (this bit to be continued later). As I got on my Luas there was a right oul commotion. A group of (whats the politically correct way of saying it?) international residents were on the tram, dancing, running about, and playing really loud music. It was proper Stavros Flatley style and all. Then as I pulled up towards the stop at Busaras, the 101 to Drogheda pulled away. Not another bus for an hour. No worries, I’ll run and get the train since there is one at 2225 ex. Pearse Station. OH NO IT ONLY RUNS MONDAY TO FRIDAY LIKE BACK IN THE 1960′S. JOY OF JOYS

As it happens though I can’t tell you how strongly I feel on this issue of wanting the streets back. Dublin has been riddled with social issues over the last number of years and civil rights entitles everyone to be free and to walk around the place. That I am not denying. My issue however,( and I am sure is a similar issue from Balbriggan to Blackrock, and from Drimnagh to Dalkey) is that you cannot walk around this city without feeling intimidated. I get the Luas very often, at least once a week. But I am so fed up of the Luas feeling like the build up to a mugging. I will admit, my style, my hair and as of late, my headphones draw attention to myself more so than others. However, can some people not just keep their noses out of other people’s lives. I am tired of waiting on the sardine can that is the Luas, which by the way, I always pay my fare for, and feeling that I am like a social punchbag for these people.

When you get off it, you don’t feel any safer. It is a Saturday night in Dublin, rather late at about 9pm. Yet I see tonnes of young kids, maybe around 10 or 12 years of age, running around in the city? And then there is the teenagers standing around as well. You walk past them trying not to make the slightest bit of eye contact as yet again, you feel like you are gonna get your hands chopped off if you do.

Dublin is a wonderful city. I love the city. I just am now getting so sick of feeling the need to have the police on speed dial every time want to walk around the place, or even get out of the city! There is a hundred and one laws on anti-social behaviour in this country ranging  from drinking in public places to loitering. Is it a case that after a certain hour on certain days, members of the Gardai are placed on duty on a tram or at a Luas stop, rather than being employed to overload a police station during the day. Safety is an issue at night time moreso than the day. Car accidents mostly happen in the dead of night, robberies mostly take place in the late hours, muggings rarely happen in broad daylight.

Tonight, nothing happened to me. But I couldn’t help find myself clutching my baggage with a firm grip all evening, whilst also holding onto my pockets with dear life. Tonight, I was safe. Tomorrow night, who knows? Tonight, someone may look at someone in a way, and may have their eyes gouged out come the morning. It is like anarchy in this city right now. Respect is what is lacking big time in this city. This isn’t a crime issue, this isn’t a gang thing, this isn’t about drug use. This is a simple thing. Respect everyone, respect their property and respect their personal space. Not too much to ask is it? Or is asking for our streets back too big a question?

Vejaciones, atropellos y posterior inadmisión en Barajas hacia nuestros familiares que vienen de visita. Acoso y persecución en las estaciones del Metro y otros transportes públicos. Referencias negativas consuetudinarias por parte de los medios de comunicación. Años de trámite para homologar nuestras titulaciones universitarias y para la obtención de la nacionalidad española. Ser tratados como delincuentes por una falta administrativa con “pena” de encarcelamiento en los CIE. Ofensas y falsas acusaciones de copar los servicios públicos desde partidos políticos xenófobos mientras el resto de sus homólogos callan ante la agresión. Eso y más cosas tenemos que vivir los inmigrantes en Cataluña y España.

Lo anterior se añade a la dinámica que conlleva el proceso de emigración, el cual implica comenzar un proyecto vital desde cero, en un lugar extraño y dejando atrás años de vivencias, familia, amigos. La lista de agravios y penurias sufridas por los inmigrantes – los irregulares particularmente – no hace si no aumentar y profundizar el drama en que termina para muchos su apuesta por una vida mejor en el viejo continente.

Ocurre en la barcelonesa ciudad de Terrassa. Me entero de ello por miembros de otras asociaciones inmigrantes egarenses. Al parecer no es el único sitio de Cataluña donde esto viene ocurriendo desde hace unas semanas. Las policías locales, autonómicas y nacionales se han dado a la tarea de visitar los domicilios donde se encuentran empadronados los inmigrantes irregulares, puerta por puerta, en sus hogares, entregándoles una citación para que se presenten en la comisaría de policía (de Terrassa en este caso) y abrirles el expediente de expulsión correspondiente por estancia irregular en España. Ya no satisface la cacería del inmigrante en las calles, ahora hay que ir casa por casa. Esta problemática ha sido denunciada por nosotros en todas las reuniones y encuentros del sector inmigrante a los cuales hemos asistido últimamente, incluyendo al Secretario para la inmigración. Oriol Amorós.

Menos mal que no estamos en la Italia de Berlusconi.

Mientras tanto en el Congreso de los Diputados de Madrid se ultima la “Ley sobre Derechos y Libertades de los Extranjeros y su Integración Social” (denominada Ley de Extranjería) a pesar de que la misma ha sido valorada negativamente por diversos sectores de la sociedad española (sindicatos, ONG`s, asociaciones de inmigrantes, iglesia, sectores académicos, gremios del sector social, etc.). Y aún falta el reglamento que establecerá las formas y métodos de aplicación de dicha restrictiva ley.

En Cataluña los legisladores regionales tampoco han perdido el tiempo y a estas horas se tramita con carácter de urgencia la “Llei de Acollida de les Persones Immigrades y Retornades a Catalunya” la cual desarrolla las competencias autonómicas que la “Ley de Extranjería” entrega a Cataluña gracias a la negociación entre el PSOE y CiU, pacto que evitó al gobierno tener que retirar su iniciativa parlamentaria en Madrid a cambio de entregar a la Generalitat el control de una buena parte de la política y procedimientos administrativos en materia de inmigración. Un negocio redondo para ambos grupos.

En Madrid se aprobará una norma legal que acentuará la desigualdad y las diferencias entre nacionales y extranjeros. En Cataluña se está fraguando en estos precisos momentos una legislación que establece “de facto” el tan atacado y denostado – con razón – contrato de inmigración que el Partido Popular propuso hace un tiempo y que provocó reacciones cuasi histéricas dentro de los mismos partidos que actualmente impulsan esta “Llei de Acollida” en las cortes catalanas. Los que ayer se rasgaban las vestiduras hoy están dispuestos a aprobar justo lo que tanto criticaron. Fariseos son.

¿Y las asociaciones de inmigrantes de Cataluña qué decimos al respecto?

Pues unas cuantas ya han pasado por el Parlament con bastante pena y ninguna gloria, diciendo sí e incluso alabando en algunos casos las regulaciones que coartan aún más las libertades y poder de decisión individual de los inmigrantes. Hemos podido leer y observar varias de las comparecencias de nuestros compañeros de otras asociaciones y federaciones y quisiera pensar que el motivo de esta actitud tibia y complaciente hacia el tema de las certificaciones, cobro de tasas y monolingüismo responde a que ni siquiera han leído el texto, ya que de lo contrario no se entiende el papel que algunos “dirigentes” del asociacionismo inmigrante han ido a desempeñar en el recinto legislativo de La Ciutadella.

Como dice el refrán aquel: “Con amigos así quien necesita enemigos”

Nosotros aún no hemos tenido la oportunidad de pronunciarnos respecto de esta ley en el Parlament, pero lo haremos próximamente. En este mismo espacio ofreceremos el detalle de nuestra exposición y de los argumentos que hayamos esgrimido en dicha intervención ante los señores diputados.

Dichiara Franco Maccari:“A luglio, quando siamo stati in visita in quello che ancora era il Centro di Accoglienza e Riconoscimento di Asilo (C.A.R.A.) di Restinco (Br), quasi come se stessimo esprimendo una triste profezia avevamo detto che, per quanto buone e dignitose fossero le condizioni dei luoghi, ci sarebbe stato certamente bisogno di un incremento considerevole dei colleghi impegnati quando, di lì a poco, la struttura fosse divenuta un Centro di identificazione ed espulsione (C.I.E.). Oggi, purtroppo, registriamo l’ennesima conferma dell’attualità dei pericoli che i garanti della sicurezza corrono nell’espletamento dei servizi presso i centri per immigrati. Le proteste in questi luoghi, sempre più violente, scoppiano ad ogni piè sospinto, ed è ora che vengano assunti seri provvedimenti. Adesso, senza se e senza ma, senza attendere che ci scappi il morto per poi piangere litri di lacrime di coccodrillo”.  E’ grande la preoccupazione espressa da Franco Maccari, Segretario Generale del COISP – il Sindacato Indipendente di Polizia -, a seguito della sommossa scoppiata alcune notti fa nel Cie di Restino, che ha coinvolto una cinquantina di extracomunitari, e si è e conclusa con quattro arresti (di un marocchino e tre tunisini) per resistenza e lesioni a pubblico ufficiale, nonché danneggiamento, ed una decina di clandestini fuggiti.

Giovedì 12 Novembre alle ore 22.00 presso il Cantiere Sociale Camilo Cienfuegos in Via Chiella 2 a Campi Bisenzio, si terrà lo spettacolo teatrale “Madama C.I.E. – Rievocazioni di una divisa scoppiata”.
Un monologo multimediale scritto, diretto e interpretato da Alessandra Magrini che racconta l’esplosione di una divisa da cui origina un simulacro tragicomico che segue un sentiero di rievocazioni estemporanee. Lady Oscar, pinocchio, la costituzione, il Cie di Ponte Galeria, gli sbarchi a Lampedusa, sgorgano da una mente fuor di senno, proprio come accade proprio come accadde a molti giovani soldati di ritorno dal Vietnam negli anni 60 che non hanno retto il peso dell’orrore.
Madama CIE non torna da così lontano, lei vive ed opera nell’Italia dei nostri giorni, quella degli operai arrampicati in cima alle fabbriche, delle aggressioni razziste, delle escort, delle ronde, dei precari senza un euro, dei viaggi disperati degli immigrati clandestini. A calcare le scene è un personaggio costruito dalla fantasia dell’autrice, ma i contenuti della narrazione sono frutto di una documentazione effettuata su reportage giornalistici, contatti con sindacalisti, volontari CIE, dossier e siti internet, fino ad interviste effettuate dalla stessa autrice ad immigrati clandestini.

LEAN suggests that you schedule “CIE” time — calls, interruptions, and e-mails. From their blog:

* Plan 1/2 hour (morning, lunchtime, late afternoon) 3x’s a day to deal with CIE’s.
* When you have to get into a “work flow zone” (working on presentation, in an interview, etc.), drive your calls to voice mail and shut down email.
* Publish your schedule with your teammates (post outside your cube/office – with a sign over it – – STOP – READ MY SCHEDULE BEFORE ENTERING) so people know when you are in a “work flow zone”.
* Make sure your peers know that just because you’re not on the phone and/or in an interview, it doesn’t mean you are not working and CAN be interrupted. Posting your schedule + discussing this with your peers can help eliminate 80% of the interruptions that you actually can avoid (versus client calls, etc.)

Wow. Talk about workplace utopia. If anyone at my company — or any other company I’ve ever worked for — tried that, they’d be roasted alive. (Except for item 2, but I’ll get to that in a minute.) So you want to basically tell people “you can’t bother me except at these specific times”? Yeah, good luck.

First of all, we live in a “now” culture. If you don’t do the job right now — or at least acknowledge it right away — you’re not doing your job and you’ll be subject to someone showing up to ask you if you got their message. Which brings us to item 3, posting your schedule; what about that sales guy, or that annoying guy who always says “I know you posted that this is your work flow zone but I really need your help”, or the secretary who keeps sending you phone calls from the one annoying customer because everyone else has screamed at her that they have real work to do but you’re too nice? What do you think the likelihood is of your work flow zone ever being uninterrupted? That is, unless you work after business hours.

Yep. Scheduling calls, interruptions, and e-mails is a joke, and in this economic situation, if you try to do anything other than everything right this very second you’ll find yourself out of a job.

I do want to mention item 2, however — route away calls and e-mails when you’re in your work flow zone. People by and large are lazy; if they e-mail or call and you don’t answer, they’re not that likely to walk over unless you’re really needed for something. That’s probably the only useful takeaway from the article.

Lo ha detto il ministro dell’Interno, Roberto Maroni, presentando i risultati dell’azione di governo nella lotta alla mafia.

“A Lampedusa – ha detto Maroni – attualmente c’è un solo clandestino. Ho detto però a Morcone (il capo del dipartimento dell’Immigrazione del Viminale, Mario Morcone, ndr) di lasciarlo in attività almeno fino alla prossima primavera. Non vorrei cantare vittoria troppo presto”.

Het Centrum voor Internationale Erfgoedactiviteiten (CIE) presenteert op maandag 9 november de derde lezing in de reeks Lloyd Time on Mondays. De lezing, ‘Dutch origins of Manhattan‘, wordt gehouden door Martine Gosselink (hoofd geschiedenis bij het Rijksmuseum). Martine Gosselink is als conservator en auteur breed georiënteerd op het terrein van de Nederlandse kunst en geschiedenis. Haar specialisme richt zich op beeldcultuur van het overzeese en koloniale verleden.

Projecten op het gebied van internationaal erfgoed zijn er al decennia. Maar de kennis die tijdens zo’n project wordt opgedaan, kwam voorheen nergens samen. Intussen zijn er diverse organisaties en netwerken die zich hiermee bezighouden. Zoals Erfgoed 2.0, waar niet alleen actualiteiten worden besproken, maar ook projecten (zie de LinkedIn groep) en waar erfgoedinstellingen inmiddels ook kunnen aankloppen voor advies en conceptontwikkeling.
Maar dus ook het CIE, dat in 2006 werd opgericht. Ook het CIE geeft advies en begeleiding bij lopende en nieuwe projecten op dit terrein, werkt aan een database van erfgoedactiviteiten, onderhoudt een netwerk van internationale experts, en streeft ernaar het onderwerp ook voor een breder publiek op de kaart te zetten. Daarnaast haakt het CIE aan bij concrete lokale projecten in landen als Australië of Sri Lanka.

In my opinion, this is a very good book about human resource management. The contents are extensive, which include the legal environment, information technology, job analysis and design, human resource planning, how to recruit employees and select employees, employee training, organizational development, career development, wage and salary systems, employee relations and more.  Although they are all quite fundamental, they are detailed and easy to understand. After going through all the chapters, you could at least be able to define human resource management, describe the functions of human resource management, summarize the types of assistance provided by the human resource department, explain the desired relationship between human resource managers and operating managers, identify several challenges currently faced by today’s human resource managers, outline several potential challenges and contributions presented by an increasingly diverse work force, and know in general terms how human resource managers can affect organizational performance.

 What I like most about this book is that there are many review questions, exercises and discussion questions after each topic and summary of learning objectives. It lists them out one by one to make the point clear and easy to understand.  In each chapter, many detailed examples and figures are attached for elaboration. To make learning interesting, it begins with a lively dialogue somewhere. Like incident 6-1, it starts with a story, “you are a human resource consultant. You have been called by the newly appointed president of a large paper manufacturing firm.” The story explains what human resource planning is with several questions following. I like the explanations of this book very much and did learn something from it. Hope it also can live a deep impression on you.

Op de basis van de luchtcomponent in Semmerzake, de Air Traffic Control Centre, ging de tweejaarlijkse opendeurdag door. Naast diverse deelnemers van defensie zelf waren er ook o.a. CGSU eenheden van de  Federale Politie samen met een MD-900 helikopter en diverse voertuigen van de brandweer Gavere.

ATCC staat voor Air Traffic Control Centre, deze basis verzorgt militaire verkeersleiding naast andere taken.
De radome met de Marconi S723 radar stond open voor het publiek welke in groepen een deskundige uitleg kregen.

De radar antenne is in feite een mobiel systeem dat nu een vaste plaats kreeg op een verhoogd platform, nadien werd de radome uit kunststof panelen opgebouwd rond het geheel.

Deze installatie vervangt de oude General Electric radar die nog steeds aanwezig is op het terrein.

Er was ook een static show van diverse toestellen van de luchtcomponent.

AgustaWestland AW109 helikopter

Alouette III (SA318C) helikopter, wordt o.a. gebruikt op schepen van de marinecomponent (F930 Leopold I; F931 Louise-Marie; A960 Godetia)

Alouette II

F-16 waarbij toegang tot de cockpit mogelijk was.

RQ-5 B-Hunter, een UAV of onbemand vliegtuig met het ondersteuningsmateriaal.

MD-900 helikopter van de Federale Politie, een toestel met het NOTAR systeem dus zonder staart rotor. Deze helikopters staan ook bekend onder de codenaam ‘RAGO’.

Deze MD-900 heli en eenheden van de CGSU gaven een rappel demonstratie.

Ook niet vliegend materiaal van defensie was aanwezig.

Iveco LMV (Light Multipurpose Vehicle), een nieuw gepanserd 4×4 voertuig. Dit voertuig moet de Iltis vervangen, op de achtergrond is een Iltis voertuig zichtbaar.

Een Unimog ambulance

Kraanwagen Volvo (Manumat) met 6×6 aandrijving.

Tank transporter Scania met Lohr dieplader, goed voor 61500kg laadvermogen

RIV (Rapid Intervention Vehicle) een brandbestrijdingsvoertuig. Sides VIRMP 18.90/Thomas Alpiroute met 4×4 aandrijving.
Dit voertuig Draagt 1600L water, 200L schuim en 90kg bluspoeder met zich mee.

Een mobiele luchtverkeerstoren

De Mistral geleide missile voor de nabije luchtverdediging, de lanceer eenheid is uitgerust met een warmte gevoelig vizier met groot bereik.
Het projectiel neemt de warmte uitstraling van het doel waar en intercepteert automatisch eens gelanceerd. Bereik is 500m tot 6km.

M167 VADS 20mm (Vulcan Air Defense System), een ouder wapen tegen nabije luchtdoelen (en doelen op de grond). Bestaat uit een 20mm snelvuurkanon met zes roterende lopen volgens het Gatling principe. De electrisch aangedreven opstelling wordt gevoed door een generator of batterijen. Effectief bereik 1750m. Het kanon is vergelijkbaar met het boordwapen van Bvb. de F-16.

Daarnaast was ook de civiele brandweer van Gavere aanwezig.
Halfzware autopomp 1, Mercedes Atego 1429 geleverd door Vanassche. Deze autopomp werd ingezet voor blus oefeningen uit te voeren door de bezoekers.

Halfzware autopomp 2, Mercedes 1124 AF met ‘4×4′ aandrijving. Geleverd door Vanassche.

Elevator Renault GRH235 Comet, max. hoogte 24m. Deze elevator werd hier ingezet voor rappels.

Snelle hulpwagen Mercedes Sprinter 312D met divers Holmatro ontzettingsmateriaal.
