The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a national holiday tradition, and has been so for the past 83 years, and this year the tradition continued.

This year, the parade route returns to its roots with it ending at 34th street right in front of the Macy’s store. This is different than it has been in recent years.

 There is a list of performers that include Katharine McPhee, Jane Krakowski, and we have Spiderman, Kermit and Spongebob floating down the parade route. Ziggy Marley, the son of the legendary Reggae singer Bob Marley, performed a song with his daughter on a float decorated as a pirate ship.

 Ziggy performed his new song ”It’s Family Time” while holding his daughter in his arms so she could reach the mike…very cute.

Katharine McPhee, sporting her new sassy blonde ‘do, performed her new single “Had It All.” Jane Krakowski performed a Christmas tune. She may play a ditzy spoiled celeb on “30 Rock,” but in real-life Krakowski is quite the songbird.

Teen superstar Miley Cyrus made an exuberant appearance waving to her throngs of excited fans that lined the parade route waiting patiently for the international superstar. She looked great, in light of the bush crash tragedy that killed her long time tour bus driver this past friday. Today was much happier times for her.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade aired on CBS and NBC at noon ET/9 am PT.

En regardant Stargate Universe – gros geek assumé que je suis -, je me suis  rendu compte que l’homosexualité était vraiment bien plus présente dans notre télé que il y a 5 ans… Regardez il y a 5 ans, il aurait été impossible de montrer un câlin homosexuel, sauf peut être au JT, et encore, avec énormément de politiquement correct et de paraphrases. Aujourd’hui, la tendance semble s’inverser avec les séries comme Ugly Betty, Le Destin de Lisa, Plus Belle la Vie ou encore, la tête de file, Skins.

Retour sur une phénoménalisation et sur une mode de l’homosexualité, donc.

Prenons Skins par exemple. Série anglaise par excellence qui avait pour vocation de montrer la vie telle qu’elle est, en l’exagérant sur le trash, mais en la montrant sans artifice. Alors oui, il y a des homos dans la vie, alors on les montre. Dans les saisons 1 et 2 (les meilleures!), le personnage gay était Maxxie, et il a sans doute généré à lui seul un bon quart de l’audience (dont celle de ma petite personne, je l’avoue), et dans la saison 3, on passe aux lesbiennes, avec Naomi et Emily. Étaient abordées les difficultés à s’assumer, à vivre le regard des autres, etc etc. Voilà pour Skins.

Et à partir de ce moment là, on a pu voir un rush sur les homos à la télé, que ce soit dans les séries ou dans le reste. Les séries, on a vu dans la toute dernière saison de Heroes la coloc de Claire qui avait craqué sur elle. Il ne se passe rien d’autre qu’un petit bisou, mais lesbien quand même, Heroes passe à la mode, de façon assez décevante il fait dire. Au contraire, Stargate Atlantis y passe bien mieux je trouve. Une des personnages était lesbienne, sans l’afficher plein pot (on l’a su avec cette phrase “Tell Sharon my last thoughts were for her.”) et lors d’un retour sur Terre, on assiste à une superbe scène de vie d’une intensité et d’une beauté à couper le souffle. Cette scène semble bien plus naturelle que dans Heroes, elle montre juste une tranche de vie, tandis que dans Heroes, il s’agissait simplement d’un remous scénaristique.

Pour passer du côté français, on a – honte sur nous – Plus Belle La Vie où un des personnages est gay, et ce dans la vraie vie aussi, depuis que la série à commencée. Hop, un gay en plus. Il suffisait aussi de regarder Secret Story cet été et l’été dernier…  Secret Story 2 : affichage devant la France entière, pour la première fois à la télé réalité, d’un couple lesbien, Samantha et Nathalie. Secret Story 3 : Fx la folasse avec sa sexualité louche, et Cindy la bisexuelle épanouie, complètement décomplexée. Et vas-y que tout le monde drague tout le monde. De là à dire que c’est une partouze intégrale, il n’y a qu’un pas. Et pour enfoncer le clou, TF1 a osé, en début d’été, mettre le mot “gay” dans le titre d’une de ses émissions : Mon Incroyable Fiancé Gay. Bon, diffusée en deuxième partie de soirée, mais tout de même.

Grosse mode de l’homosexualité, l’hétérosexualité, bien que définie comme norme dans notre société, est devenue obsolète (à voir aussi, The L World & Queer As Folk). Les gays font vendre alors évidemment on en profite. Bonne chose ? Mauvaise chose ? C’est à débattre, mais en un sens, les ados de demain auront vu des gays à la télé tout le temps, donc il n’y aura pas de sentiment de rejet. Mais d’un autre côté, les gays présentés sont quand même caricaturaux à mort (Brüno par exemple…), et alors là, paye tes préjugés.

OK so I am about to try and start doing the regular WOD but today I did Cindy

5 asisted pull ups (on weight machine – 35kg assistance that leaves about 73kg lifted or 68% bodyweight)
I do alternate sets – wide overhand grip and narrow underhand (bicep) grip
10 pushups
15 Squats – first 3 rounds I held a 20kg plate – later rounds body weight only

Done RFT in 20 mins
Was tired today so only 8 and I earned them
My PB for Cindy is 9 rounds in 19 minutes but only done maybe 8 times in 2 months
First time I got only 6
I am a pretty tall guy at 196/6′5.5 so I carry my 109/240 pretty well but I am getting keen to drop some more
18 months ago I was pretty unfit weighing 120+/265+ so I am happy with the results so far
But reading through Crossfit and Brand X I am no longer satisfied and I am no longer going to make excuses like I am a big guy , I am nearly 40 blah blah
So if you see me around here kick my arse into gear

Giving Rocks!

After weeks of preparation and planning the Baxter Helping Hands Volunteer Organization opened the doors at the Baxter Village Hall for what has become an annual neighborhood tradition:  Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Stuffing.  The short story on the cause:  Fill a shoe box with toiletries, school supplies, toys, candy, artwork and maybe a nice note.  Put a lid on it.  Label it. Box it with other shoeboxes in a shipping crate and have it shipped to children in 3rd world countries to provide basic needs, caring as well as a little joy for the holidays.  Do this 344 times and you now know what went on yesterday from 1-3pm in Baxter Village.  Remarkable.  Inspiring.  Thoughtful.  Hopeful.  Best of all – kind.

Unrelated to the events/pictures above but allow me to start this entry  by introducing you to our family’s newest cover model:  Will.  He landed the highly coveted November cover of Island Events Magazine (apparently “The Original Visitor’s Guide to Hilton Head Island & The Lowcountry Since 1974″).  It’s a long story but the short version is people really do look at the pictures you post to Flickr.  The magazine liked a shot I took of us Kayaking this summer in Hilton Head and the rest is history.  We are trying not to let this go to our heads.  Just one quick trip to Madison Avenue to test the modeling waters and then back to reality, we promise. 

Throughout November we participated in kid-bouncy festivals for the school PTO, Cindy and I made a kid-free weekend happen in Blowing Rock, NC, Will finished up a very successful soccer season (multiple hat tricks), Stewart re-upped for the “Big Dippers” Gymnastics Class, Stewart, Will and I went on another camping trip to our favorite campsite (#7) at the Anne Springs Close Greenway here in Fort Mill and Cindy and I participated in a foot-based scavenger hunt about Baxter (this was a blast!).  We even had a few dinners with friends we have not seen in a good while.  Good month.  Pictures at the links below for your viewing enjoyment.

It’s finally Friday and I’m so excited for the weekend .   This week went by a little slower than I would’ve liked, but only because I’m going to be sailing off into the sunset (i.e. Riviera Maya)  in only a few days! I can’t wait!  In other news, I also started the ball rolling on a major “personal project”. I would love to give more details, but I don’t want to jinx anything. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!!!  Anyways, here’s my fave five for this week:

1) Birthdays:  Two very special ladies celebrated birthdays this week – my Mom and one of my best friends, Marie.  Last weekend, we celebrated Marie’s birthday in our usual style – dinner and dancing.  And since my mom lives over an hour away in Pennsylvania, I will be visiting with her and the rest of the family this weekend.  Happy Birthday Ladies!!

2) Quality Time with the Sis: We don’t get to spend as much time together during the week because of our hectic work schedules and her busy nursing program,  but I always look forward to our one-on-one sister time!  (**She’s going to kill me for posting this picture! )

 3) People’s Sexiest Man Alive:  …Johnny Depp.  Need I say more?!  As for the other men on the list…blah!  Whoever decided to nominate Adam Lambert, Nick Cannon or the Glee kids needs to be fired!  My personal picks for the list would be : James Franco, Leonardo DiCaprio, Vince Vaughn, and  Javier Bardem to mention a few. What are some of your picks for the list?

4) Bad Romance: Though in the past I’ve expressed my dislike of Lady Gaga, I present myself to you a converted lover of the Gaga.   Her video for “Bad Romance”  is like nothing I’ve seen before – and that’s a good thing!  Click here to watch the video.

5) Nine: I’ve been hearing about the production of this movie for quite some time now.  But after watching the cast on Oprah and clips of the performance footage, I can not wait to catch this film on its Christmas opening day!!  The amazing  cast, stunning costumes, showstopping musical numbers and beautiful cinematography has got me sold!  Click here to watch the trailer.

What made your favorite list this week?

Working out and eating right has its advantages.  You lose weight, look and feel better, and have increased health benefits.  However, sometimes the scale just doesn’t match all of your best efforts.  Sometimes you plateau.  Sometimes it just happens depending on what is going on inside your body, your stress level or fluid intake.  If you are also tracking your measurements, the numbers do not lie.

The number on the scale for me hasn’t really budged in a couple of weeks.  I haven’t been working out as much since I started my new job and I’ve also been dealing with some chronic pain issues which totally wipe me out.  So today I decided to check my measurements and compare them to the numbers when I started working out at Healthworks in August.  I was pleased with the results, having lost about 15 inches overall.

I still have a long way to go, but I suggest doing measurements and tracking them once a month if you are feeling frustrated with your results.  The number on the scale isn’t always the number that can show progress and improvement.

Como habíamos anunciado en 1961, Yogi ; toda una estrella por si mismo; abandonó el Show de Huckleberry Hound, para fundar el suyo propio. El Show del Oso Yogi.

Para su debut televisivo protagonista, se hizo acompañar de dos personajes un tanto venidos a menos. Yackie Doddle, el cual ya había participado en sus capítulos (El Huésped Exigente y Pato con suerte ) y también en varios capítulos de Canuto y Canito como el Patito Huérfano.

Lo mismo ocurría con el León Melquiades. Este había intervenido en un par de episodios de Canuto y Canito (más como una idea de personaje que como un personaje en si mismo) Y se rebelaba por fin con su propia serie de animación. (También aparecía un personaje parecido en Tiro loco, el león montañes)

EL LEON MELQUIADES:

Este Felino, es un león montañés de color rosa. con alzacuellos y puños y lazada al cuello de color negro.

Su postura, habla, y gestualización, son de gran refinamiento.

Su mayor empeño en la vida es conseguir adecuar su gruta o cueva a su gusto. Es decir adecentarla para vivir cómodamente con los lujos propios de los que cualquier sibarita como el mismo que se precia, debe vivir.

Sin embargo la vida no le es fácil. Pues a pesar de su elevada educación e intelecto. Cada vez que da un paso, le vienen detrás queriéndole o descerrajar un tiro para exhibirlo como un trofeo, por ser león, en el caso del Mayor Minus. Por considerarlo peligroso, antes de conocerlo, en el caso de la gente muy obcecada. Y en el mejor de los casos recibe varios porrazos por ser educado e inteligente y no ser un berzas como suelen ser la mayoría de los mortales. (Es lo que indica el dibujo ;no yo, lo cual no quiere decir que no comparta cierto nivel de asertividad con lo que quiere mostrar ).

De todos modos Melquiades, llamado asi en España Snagglepuss en Norteamerica. No fue para nada un éxito demasiado llamativo y su serie decayó tempranamente. Si bien es cierto que el personaje quedó como un Mítico de Hanna- Barbera. Tras la serie en el Show del Oso Yogi, según tengo entendido, no se han llegado a crear nuevos capitulos de su personaje y tan solo ha aparecido como comparsa en otras series.
