I was delighted to be able to video tape Jango Edwards’ clown workshop at The Brick Theatre in Williamsburg. It was held Nov. 9th thru the 11th 2009 in association with Jef Johnson’s CLOWN LAB.  I have edited a short excerpt of the workshop and posted it here.  Jango hasn’t been in the US for over 27 years. He was delighted to teach both in New York and Baltimore. He has started the Nouveau Clown Institute in Barcelona and will be having month long workshops there starting in March 2010. Many professional clowns and movement teachers will be doing workshops and performances. Jango started the FESTIVAL OF FOOLS in Amsterdam in 1975. Now Jango’s focus is on the NCI and teaching, performing worldwide. I will be working on the Jango Interview and post it here later next week.

Havia terminado o projeto da sala e dos quartos, mas faltava esse cantinho especial.

Tínhamos que seguir o clima moderno e antenado dos outros ambientes, por isso sugeri as banquetas Circus adesivadas com fotos de grafitti.  Em geral baixas como puffs, elas foram encomendadas em medida apropriada ao projeto. Ficaram com 75 cm de altura.

Aparentemente, Britney desligou na cara de Gaga – metaforicamente falando. Piadinhas sem graça à parte, o provável próximo single de Lady GaGa, Telephone, teria sido destinado originalmente ao álbum Circus, de Britney Spears.

Segundo DarkChild e Lady GaGa, no twitter daquele e no vídeo acima, o trabalhos com a canção teriam começado há mais ou menos um ano, só que a gravadora de Spears não permitiu a inclusão da faixa no álbum. Também pudera – o álbum da cantora foi lançado em 28 de Novembro de 2008 e está a um dia de completar o citado ano.

Vamos conferir nos próximos meses como se comporta a canção nas paradas mundiais…

Mas acho que Britney se ferrou.

A circus owner runs an ad for a lion tamer and two people show up. One is a good looking, older retired golfer in his late sixties and the other is a gorgeous blond in her mid-twenties.

The circus owner tells them, “I’m not going to sugar coat it. This is one ferocious lion. He ate my last tamer so you two had better be good or you’re history. Here’s your equipment — chair, whip and a gun.

Who wants to try out first?”

The girl says, “I’ll go first.” She walks past the chair, the whip and the gun and steps right into the lion’s cage. The lion starts to snarl and pant and begins to charge her. About halfway there, she throws open her coat revealing her beautiful naked body.

The lion stops dead in his tracks, sheepishly crawls up to her and starts licking her feet and ankles. He continues to lick and kiss her entire body for several minutes and then rests his head at her feet.

The circus owner’s jaw is on the floor. He says, “I’ve never seen a display like that in my life.” He then turns to the retired golfer and asks, “Can you top that?” The tough old golfer replies, “No problem, just get that lion out of the way.”

Every year Flo and I make a point of enrolling for a pointless evening class at the Appleton Marsh Community College. Over the years we’ve wasted our time on upholstering and soft furnishing, macrame, basket weaving, stained glass, astronomy, jazz fusion,  folklore, advanced jazz fusion, advanced basket weaving, bookbinding for beginners, circus skills, group facilitation, le cinéma français sous l’occupation, intermediary ukulele, hedge-laying. Regrets? I’ve had a few but then again, far too many to mention here. Why do we keep going? It’s the triumph of hope over experience; the hope that we are less shallow than we seem to be. I’m not sure that affirmation will come along this year though. I had my doubts about a 20 week herpetology course but Flo seemed sure; she even gave the impression that she knew what herpetology was, which I now have good reason to doubt. We’re eight weeks in and what we don’t already know about frogs, toads, newts and salamanders, you could write on the wart on Flo’s nose. It’s all utterly irrelevant to our lives in Appleton Marsh of course but then I’m beginning to think that that is the point of it; opium for the minority. We don’t choose these courses, they choose us. What other explanation could there be?

The eleventh arrondissement of eastern Paris sits on the Right Bank of the Seine River. Packing one hundred fifty thousand residents into slightly more than 1.4 square miles (less than 3.7 square kilometers) it is the most densely populated district of Paris and in fact the most densely populated urban district in Europe. The Cirque d’hiver (Winter Circus) has been around for more than 150 years. It’s a unique looking building with twenty sides festooned with large columns at the angles. This building has long been a circus. It has also been a concert hall and even one of the first Parisian cinemas. The owners rent it out for almost any purpose. There is a single stage-circus ring and happily no pillars or other obstructions to ruin the view of well over fifteen hundred spectators. In the old days the building contained many more seats but the fire marshals intervened and voila. A swimming pool under the circus ring makes for some very fine water shows. The Cirque d’Hiver was highlighted in a famous Seurat painting, and featured in a celebrated Avedon fashion photograph, and the 1950s movie “Trapeze”, starring Gina Lollobrigida, Tony Curtis, and Kirk Douglas.

…….I am pleased to inform that the great golden circus is back in the city. Any person staying in Mumbai(India) can have the opportunity to watch it with their kids. The quality of it, I have doubts about, but kids would love it. This is one of the rare chances that we get, as the circus business has become a rarity in Indian cities.

Okay, so this is getting to be an annual battle for Britney fans: the Fuse sponsored Video of the Year contest. Last year she won with her video for “Womanizer” against the disgusting devil-worshipers that are Slipknot.

This year she’s made it through her brackets easily with her music video for “Circus“. There was a bit of trouble with Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”, but she made it through in the end.

And now, we’re at the final stage. And she’s against Papa Roach.

This is one of these bands that I’ve always known existed, but I couldn’t name one of their songs. But they’ve taken it upon themselves to get really bitchy. Look what they wrote on their Twitter page:

And then because Britney fans are hardcore, they fought back. And then, Papa Roach went there:

Ask yourself: can you really stand for that? Do you really want people who call themselves “roaches” to win over the love and beauty that Britney Spears represents?

I was finally able to photograph the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus Train during it’s home run to Tampa, FL. I have been trying to catch the train for several years during a jump and was able to catch it today as it came through Knoxville.

2009 Blue Unit Circus Train:
—61 cars (40 conventional passenger-type cars; 21 TTX-[type] piggyback flats)
—4,490 Tons (when fully loaded)
—5,409 Feet (WITHOUT host RR’s power attached; 1 mile = 5,280 feet)

Francis and Lotte Brunn joined Ringling Bros. show in 1948 when they first came to this country.  They worked the Ringling show for 2 seasons and then went to the Pollack Bros. Circus. Lotte met her future husband at the Pollack Bros. Circus in 1951 and then left Francis with the circus and went off to get married and start their own careers. John Salmons returns to ARCO Arena.

A week ago Tuesday, November 17, 2009 I drove from Fresno to Sacramento for the Bulls @ Kings. This after last February we made a trade for Brad Miller and John Salmons. Arco Arena wasn’t sold out, but it sh0uld’ve been. The first game back in Sacramento and John Salmons was brilliant. He torched his old team for 23 points and a 101-87 Victory for a solid start to the  Bulls annual Circus Trip. This trip is called The Circus Trip because this is the time in the Bulls season where the Barnum and Bailey Circus is camped out at The United Center in Chicago as the Bulls hit one of the NBA’s longest road trips.

Another Ex-King, Brad Miller added 11 points including a key 3-pointer nearing the end of the first half. Although, Salmons was our leading scorer Coach VDN credited a big half from Mr. Swag Himself Joakim Noah.

“John Salmons was solid for us. Joakim Noah was a monster especially in the second half,” said Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro. “He had a couple of great tip- ins. Just some good performances that we needed.”

Other than Salmons and Miller headlining a forgettable game for The Kings. My night was great. Matthew Morrison from Glee was at the game having fun and I was having fun watch him! I got to see my Dad who I hadn’t seen in awhile, I talked to him PreGame as he was warming up with Jannero Pargo. I was excited and optimistic at the outcome of the game in Sacramento. However, in the back of my mind I knew that in just 48 hours we would be in Los Angeles at The Staples Center contending against The Reigning Champs, The Lakers.
