Based on the molecular theories of DNA construction, Amulets by Merlin has created a line of jewelry harnessing the double helix motif. Instead of using the classic construction of sugars and phosphate groups joined by ester bonds, the pendant, bracelet and earrings are made of silver (or gold if you prefer). Using the classic shape of the balls and rods, the pendant is over two inches long with the pattern moving up over the bail; the earrings resemble icicles tapering down fro the ear and the bracelet is created with tiny interlocking hinges allowing it to flow over supply over your wrist.

週末はちょっくらラスベガスへ行ってきまして、Mirageホテルでやってるシルクドソレイユの「The Beatles Love」を観てきました。

私、ビートルズって特に好きとか嫌いとかなくて、「音楽」くらいの認識しかないんですね。というのも、サビとか前奏とかがポンキッキで使われてたじゃないですか？ あと、色んなコマーシャルやテレビ番組で頻繁に使われるので、わざわざ買って聞くというよりは、勝手に耳に入ってくるものって感じに思ってたんです。

私のiTunesには約12,000曲登録されているので、一曲ぐらいはビートルズの曲があるかしら？と思って探したら、一曲だけサーチでヒットしました。

と、話がずれましたが、それぐらいビートルズに疎い私が果たしてこのショーを楽しめるのか？と疑問でございましたが・・・

曲が生まれた当時の時代背景、歌詞の意味などをシルクドソレイユの演出で見せる内容で、ビートルズに無知な私でも充分楽しめるショーでした。

最近出たばかりのビートルズのリマスターボックスセットを買ってもいいと思ったくらい。

12/16にオープン予定のCity Center内のAriaホテルでは、今度はエルビス・プレスリーがテーマのシルクドソレイユのショーが上演されるらしいですね。

ビートルズだけならまだしも、エルビス・・・。シルクドソレイユもネタ切れなんですかね？

私としては、Janet Jacksonにラスベガスでショーを持ってもらいたいです。そうすれば、Showgirlsで浮いてたセリフも現実になりますし。

セリーヌ・ディオンやエルトン・ジョンなど、トップアーティストも最近ではショーをやっているので、Janetのラスベガス公演もあながち現実味がないわけでもないですね。もしかしてShowgirlsは将来を予言してたのかしら？？？

なわけないけど。

America’s Next Top Model has featured two shoots heavily inspired by the theme of “Circus”. Cycle 7 saw the models portraying the different characters who are often part of a touring circus.

Cycle 13 saw the models participate in a “Circus” themed shoot – but this time it also featured members of CIRQUE DU SOLEIL – a Canadian entertainment company, self-described as a “dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment.”

I’ve only ever been to the Circus twice in my life.

The first time, I went to see a touring Circus company in my local park and have very few memories of the whole experience as I was young. HOWEVER> I was fortunate enough to go to Las Vegas a few years back and went to see Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystère” at the Treasure Island Hotel. It was insane. I can’t explain how unreal and SURREAL the whole spectacle was. The performers perform like i’ve never seen anyone perform. They are able to move their bodies in ways I didn’t think were possible. They’re the best actors. The best dancers. The most innovative and creative beings. It’s such a journey – seeing their art live. I strongly suggest that all of you check out a Cirque du Soleil show once in your life!

Got my ticket for the Cirque du Soleil – La Nouba – Unplucked cast and crew production on December 5, 2009 at Downtown Disney!

The Cirque cast and crew have been training hard after work for the last few months to put on their own Cirque du Soleil Techno Show for our end of year celebration… there are no professionals performing in this one, just amateurs starring in acts such at the High Wire, Diabolos, Tissu, Trapeze, The Chairs and Power Track! Many of my work mates are part of the show so it should be a hysterically funny night. I can’t wait! This just adds to the many reasons as to why my Disney College Program job is better than all the others available!

These and many others are characters from the world of the music of The Beatles that all of us have grown up with, or discovered at some point of our life. The Beatles and their music are such a rich heritage, that no matter how many documentaries or tributes are made, it won’t be enough. But I’d like to talk about one that I have seen, appreciated and cherish owning…and also because it was a gift from a dear friend.

I saw The Beatles – All Together Now documentary film about the making of their Cirque du Soleil show for the second time again, and this time on a home theatre system. The Grammy award winning album LOVE re-mixed by George and Giles Martin is PURE LOVE. This is a documentary that any Beatles fan will adore. I especially like the extra features on the DVD like the banter between the father and son duo of George and Giles as they lay the foundations for the album, splitting every Beatles song under the sun and re-combining and mastering songs peppered with the trademark Beatles humour here and there.

“I kept telling Ringo next to me as we watched the show, that we were a fucking good band“, says Sir Paul McCartney during his interview in the film. And they bloody well are!

Every fan or even someone new will enjoy and relish the finer details of their music in this film – along with moving montages, the entire choreography bringing to life all the characters in their lyrics, the interviews of Olivia Harrison, Yoko Ono, Ringo, Paul McCartney, Giles and George Martin, or simply their lively artistic archive footage.  The interviews with the Cirque directors, sound engineers, designers, acrobats and actors are equally enthralling.

What I’m left with at the end of the film is this quote by George Martin, “Every generation grows up to find The Beatles for themselves.” … and George Harrison smiling down peacefully at you from the gigantic red flowing screen of a Las Vegas stage.

“Life flows on within you and without you…….”

……like it is with all their songs and their legacy, which flows within us…..without them around anymore.

I add All Together Now to one of my favourite films about the Beatles along with Yellow Submarine and A Hard Day’s Night. Special Mention also to Julie Taymor’s musical Across the Universe which as a Beatles fan I rave over whenever I watch it. But now I badly want to own and watch The Beatles Anthology!

Here’s gymnast Oli Lemieux KICKING ASS in rehearsals for Cirque du Soleil’s show Dralion. Basically this guy can fly, and I’m so jealous I can barely handle it. But also, when he drops off the highest level of the wall, my hands sweat with terror. I am not cut out for free-fall. Lucky for us, Oli is, and you should watch him, it’s a beautiful thing.

Fun fact: I worked for Dralion when they were in Toronto years ago. That’s where I learned to juggle. Oh no, I wasn’t in the show, ha ha ha. I was the assistant shift-leader of the popcorn stand. I got to wear a hairnet and everything! In addition to popcorn, overpriced pop, and cotton candy, we also sold juggling balls, so I had lots of time to practice. Well, after I’d shined up the napkin dispensers and the sweeping was done for the day.

One evening a very handsome mid 40s man with a thick shock of dark hair, sporting huge, black-rimmed nerd glasses (this was long before hipsters existed and nerd glasses became cool), came to my concession station and ordered snacks for his stunning blonde wife and their daughter. They really had presence, this family. After I served them and they walked away, someone told me why: I’d just handed a tray of Cokes to Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger.

Acabei de descobrir o último espetáculo do Cirque du Soleil. Ele se chama Zumanity e a temática explora o lado sensual do circo que reinventou o circo. É simplesmente fantástico!

Quando o tema é sexualidade, sempre se corre o risco de escorregar para o vulgar. Zumanity não comete esse pecado! Os corpos e movimentos são tão belos, o tema geral transcorre com tanta poesia que eu levaria até meus pais e avós para assistir comigo sem medo.

No site www.zumanity.com você pode conferir trechos das apresentações. Na minha opinião, o destaque vai para as contorcionistas (que sempre atiçam o imaginário masculino). Mas os vídeos mostram também cenas que simulam casais, strip tease, lesbianismo (no incrível ato waterbowl) e até uma orgia, mas tudo com o requinte que só a trupe canadense consegue manter.

Was not what I expected, but it had all the elements I require of any show: a grown man riding a miniature bike, “limp dick lamp posts”–someone actually used this term, and then I died– freaky clowns, and some gay face (both on stage and in the audience).

While there was only a vague story line (consisting of a robbery, a winter wonderland, some giant birds, four singing dogs, and  some sad –see above–lampposts), I loved it.  Though at times it was a bit of a sensory overload, it was magical overload. I said it last night, and I’m saying it now–magical.

In other news, I got a postcard from someone who gave me a facial at Bliss because it was a “pleasure to meet me.” Ditto, Maria.

The I.T. mommies got to experience Cirque du Soleil’s Kooza on Thursday night at the Santa Monica Pier. We want to thank Jessica Miller with LAX Magazine for the great tickets that thatsitmommy.com won via Twitter.

Kooza: “KOOZA tells the story of The Innocent, a melancholy loner in search of his place in the world.” As always, the show never disappoints and we’re just amazed to see the acts that Cirque has put together as jaw dropping, beautiful, funny, and incredible.

Lineup for the night’s show:

The Contortionists: A group of three women who are like no other human beings on this planet as their bodies contort to all different shapes. The flexibility of these women is astonishing. You’re amazed to see how easy they make it look while ones legs are hanging over their head and the other’s is slowing adjusting her body on top of hers to come to the same pose and the third is walking her feet over her head and behind her body like a mutant spider.

High Wire: This act is done by four talented men on a DOUBLE High Wire. Yes, two men on each level. They start off with what looks like a very easy walk across the wire and then they push it to the next level. Their act includes tandem bicycles while one of their mates sits on a chair on top of another wire held together by these men. There comes a moment where one of them jumps over the other and loses his balance and almost falls off, but is strong enough to hold on to the wire and pick himself back up.

Unicycle Duo: Just when you think that a man on a unicycle cannot do much of anything…you get smacked right in the face. Wow! His strength, agility and focus are at 100%. The unicycle is like his invisible third leg as his female partner gently dances around him and is swept off her feet and thrown in the air. It was like watching a Waltz but with a unicycle.

Wheel of Death: One of our favorite acts was just breath taking, exciting, daring, and most of all - dangerous. There men dare to defy death over and over and tonight was just like any other night. As both jump onto their contraption called “The Wheel of Death” you can see that they are both working together in sync because one mistake can cause serious injury. As they begin to power the wheel with their strength, their act begins to get a bit daring. They let gravity take over as they leap into the air, but the audience is just taken aback by the sure thought that they might miss their target – to land safely on the wheel. The I.T. mommies were just oowing and awwing to the thought that something would go horribly wrong.

Teeterboard: A Troupe of various gymnasts performing air defying stunts from their teeterboard to a mattress for safety, but lets remember that this is Cirque and with Cirque they always push the limits. You’ll see a variety of acrobats on stilts, a group of two men stacked on top of one another while the third, a women, is flung from the board on top of them. Their adrenaline rushes into the crowd as you sit their watching them from your seats wondering how they do it.

The remaining acts: Balancing of Chairs, Juggling, Solo Trapeze, Charivari

Characters: The Trickster, The Innocent, The King, The Clowns, The pickpocket, Heimloss, The Bad Dog.

The I.T. mommies give this show their “THATSIT” seal of approval.

We also recommend this show to families wanting to take in the laughter, the excitement and the beauty that Kooza brings to life, but we do caution parents bringing their younger children that some acts may be a bit too scary for them.

Last week a Missouri couple hit the jackpot at Mystere … Cirque du Soleil declared them their 30 millionth Las Vegas customer and awarded them a VIP return trip.

It’s late again and I can’t stand the fact that my brain is still working. I wish I could just stop everything and go to sleep but hey no, let’s have thoughts and emotions running everywhere just to keep me awake.

It’s really hard for me right now to write because there’s so much stuff I want to talk about but I keep on stopping my self just because it includes other people and they didn’t give me the official ok to write about certain things. Oh god I have the feeling that that sentence was too long and didn’t make any sence, oh well it’s funny.

Anyways the thing I will talk about is how excited I am to start my internship on Tuesday. I feel like when I was a kid and school was a week ahead and I would plan how to dress and how I would do my hair and all that. I received the letter that confirms everything and I almost cried, I know I’m making a big deal out of this but I just can’t believe that that will be my job some day. A being an adult and it’s fun! Hurray!

This internship is so good for me as a working adult but also for a big boost of confidence. There’s so many people who wrote me nice things even Dave told me is was proud of me, twice! (For people that don’t know Dave is my boy. But we’ll talk about that an other time)

Yep so it’s 2:30ish and I’m alone in my bed and I wish I wasn’t. First because I love to cuddle and second because I know that if I had someone on my side I would ha e to fall asleep! Anyhow…

Nothing really interesting I know!

Oh well… It’s late you can’t expect that much.

Though of the week… I talk a lot but do you really understanding what I’m trying to say?
