The silver look does a much better job of being sexy without getting slutty.  The red shoes are a great way to jazz up metallic – why don’t we see more of that?

The Cinema Society hosted a screening of “Me And Orson Welles” at Clearview Chelsea Cinemas yesterday in New York City. The cast, including Zac Efron, Claire Danes and Christian McKay were all in attendance.

Models Amber Rose and Lydia Hearst were also scout’d at the screening.

Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire were snapped at the premiere for the new film “Brothers”, featuring both of them in lead roles. The film tells the story of two brothers, Captain Sam Cahill (played by Maguire) and  Tommy Cahill (played by Jake Gyllenhaal). Sam is about to embark on his fourth tour of duty. He’s married to his high school sweetheart, Grace (Portman), but when he goes missing, Tommy moves in to take care of Sam’s family (two daughters and Grace), and eventually falls in love with his brother’s wife….

Model Agyness Deyn and actor Terrence Howard were also in attendance.

The premiere of new musical “Fela!” on Broadway at Gotham Hall went down last night in NYC. Among those who turned up = Jay-Z, Spike Lee, Harry Belafonte and of course Bill T. Jones (who wrote the book alongside Jim Lewis).

Tem graça, é suave e denso na medida certa, te faz rir com as possibilidades que vão surgindo no meio do caminho e repentinamente você se vê como a jovem que tenta amar e ser amada…

E se a poesia não lhe basta, vale salientar que o filme trás ainda a beleza do trabalho artístico de Edward Hopper, um pintor estadunidense que viveu na primeira metade do século passado. Seus temas recorrentes eram a solidão, os grandes espaços vazios e a pequenez do homem. Suas pinturas conseguem transmitir estas idéias com grande clareza e no filme vemos a jovem artista interpretada por Claire Danes transitar entre essas formas de espaços tão bem interpretadas pela arte de Hopper…

I was re-watching the first season of Sports Night a little while ago, after a long absence away, and the first thing I noticed right off the bat was that there was a laugh track. I didn’t know much about laugh tracks, other than the fact that they make watching reruns of Friends even more unbearable, but they seem to be a trend that’s never really gone away.

Sports Night is a great show. It’s being touted now, as ‘One Of The Greatest Shows You Never Watched’ right there alongside Apatow’s Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared gems (both of whom only had one season) and a whole slew of other programs that had such promise, but couldn’t get the public’s attention until they’d been off the air for ten years or more. If you’re wondering about the validity of this phenomenon, check out the DVD sales for My So-Called Life on a little website called Amazon.com.

Jared Leto might want to forget that experience, but any girl who watched the way Claire Danes stared lovingly at him as he sang a song about Big Red (his car, unfortunately, those who aren’t in the know, not her) knows. She knows. That was the moment where the slacking, underachieving guy who never washed his hair and was flunking out of most, if not all, of his classes, became the ideal. The series clearly didn’t last, though it was critically acclaimed, and that regard for the Jordan Catalano-type hasn’t ever really left us.

The internet is a beautiful thing, and as a result of its wide and vast knowledge, I discovered that the guy who created the laugh track was named Charles “Charley” Douglas. He was an eccentric in a family of eccentrics, who never told a soul what was inside his mysterious ‘laff box’ and manufactured thousands and thousands of chortles over the years. If you don’t think that’s weird, check this: shows like Bewitched, The Munsters and The Beverly Hillbillies all showcase what they called ‘canned laughter’, and proved to be breakout stars of their prime time time-slots. A little known show named Kentucky Jones, though, which premiered in September 1964 and bucked the laugh-track trend, however, was canceled within only one season. The theory seems to be that people are too stupid to know when to laugh all on their own–proven when two different versions of the pilot of Hogan’s Heroes were shown to test audiences, one with a laugh track and one without–and the version without, was an unmitigated disaster.

The laugh track controversy hasn’t really gone away, though. Series like Friends continue on for years and years employing fake laughter to invite the viewing audience at home to laugh with them, but a show like Sorkin’s Sports Night–brilliantly written, acted and directed–who bucked the laugh track trend in their second season, were canceled soon after.

Is it a network hot button issue? The New Adventures of Old Christine is hilarious sometimes, but their ratings are atrocious, and yet, they’re back now, for their fifth season, and a laugh track is paving the way to their jokes.

If she wanted to receive more attention, well, Claire Danes managed it. By a method already became to common, but, with some fine improvements we have to say: she left home her bra.

The effect, immediate and stunning. Her nipples poking the see-thru dress worn on the red carpet at the „Me and Orson Welles” London premiere made it around the world in no time.

Dirigida por Richard Linklater (“Escuela de Rock” -1993, “Antes del amanecer” -1995, “Fast food nation” -2006), “Me and Orson Welles”, cuenta entre sus protagonistas con el ídolo de adolescentes Zack Efron, quien alejándose de los papeles en los que se le ha podido ver hasta el momento (el interpretado en “High School Musical” – 2006” – sería un ejemplo), aceptó un rol más maduro en este film británico basado en una novela de Robert Kaplow.

La historia, ambientada en el año 1937, arranca cuando un joven de 17 años, Richard Samuels (Zac Efron), es elegido de manera casual por el director de la compañía de teatro Mercury Theatre, Orson Welles (Christian McKay), para interpretar un papel en la obra que está preparando: “Julio César”.

Welles, que cree beneficioso para los ensayos, reunir al equipo en parejas, decide que Richard los realice junto con la asistente de producción Sonja Jones (Claire Danes). Trabajar a las órdenes del todavía casi desconocido director no es fácil para el muchacho, que pasará por duras etapas en las que se sentirá frustrado viendo como sus ilusiones se desmoronan, pero todo a lo que se tiene que enfrentar, también le ayuda a madurar.

De la adaptación de la novela se han encargado Holly Gent Palmo y Vincent Palmo Jr, que ya han trabajado anteriormente con Linklater.

Entre el resto del reparto, veremos a Ben Chaplin, Kelly Reilly y James Tupper (este último dando vida a Joseph Cotten).

La película ha podido verse ya en el Festival de Toronto del pasado septiembre, y ha tenido una premier en Londres hace unos días, aunque no se estrenará oficialmente en Reino Unido hasta el 5 del próximo diciembre, unos días más tarde de hacerlo en USA, que la estrena el 25 de este mes (para España, todavía no hay fecha).

Los que ya lo han visto, alaban el film, pero sobre todo, la excelente interpretación de Christian McKay encarnando a Orson Welles. No ha recibido las mismas alabanzas Efron, del que se dice, no es el actor ideal para encarnar al protagonista.

Con lo que podemos ver en el trailer, puede que no podamos hacernos una idea propia sobre la razón o no de esos comentarios, pero sobre lo que sí podemos hacérnosla, es de que, posiblemente, nos encontremos ante una interesante película.

I’d better write this up.. I dropped in to the lunchtime Openline show on DCUFM to do a review of this yesterday.

The IFI in Dublin was the venue for a preview and Q&A session with Christian McKay, star of Me and Orson Welles.

Based on the book by Ropert Kaplow, the story takes place in 1937 in the week leading to the legendary opening of Julius Caesar in the Mercury Theatre off Broadway.  Newcomer McKay, plays the role of Welles,  while High School Musical hero, Zac Efron plays Richard Samuels, a youngster in search of a big break.

McKay is a wonder as the colourful Welles and the resemblence is uncanny. He brings Welles’ mood swings and gigantic personality to life.  Efron, who is a surprising good actor, still gets his chance to sing a little with a little ukulele number.

Filmed in the Isle of Man, the film boasts an impressive supporting cast including Claire Danes (Romeo & Juliet) and Ben Chaplin (The Truth about Cats and Dogs) and Director Richard Linklater turned this into an interesting story and worthwhile viewing.

During the Q&A, McKay lets his humour show, even though he says its nerves. He tells how Linklater had the opportunity to film in Hollywood but turned it down as it would mean having a different leading man. Linklater showed some courage in choosing and sticking with an unknown, (It paid off too).

He also told of how the filming took place in the Isle of Man and of some of the madness that surrounded the cast as the heartthrob Efron attracted mobs of fans.

Aunque no muchos la conozcan la actriz Claire Danes tiene una carrera muy larga en hollywood, y si, casi todas sus peliculas han fracasado, razon por la cual no quiso pasar desapercibida en la premiere en Londres de su nueva pelicula “Me and Orson Wells”, por lo que decidio dejar al aire sus encantos… mas que encantos parecen un par de limones con chipotes, pero bueno al menos hizo que toda la atencion girara en torno a su falta de bobbies y sus pezones, ese que ven ahi es Gay Efron, coprotagonista de la Claire en dicha cinta… aburrido!!

I love Zac Efron. I’m not sure why, but whenever I hear his name or his voice my 13 year old self rejoices! Seriously, I should write an academic paper on High School Music (1-3).

I am really distraught about the fact he will be in Austin alongside Richard Linklater for the Austin premiere of ME AND ORSON WELLES. My friend Loretta saw it in March during SXSW and sung it’s praises and she’s a hard woman to please! I’m going to be in NYC for Thanksgiving and looked at tickets home for the 29th and it was $400 bucks for a one-way ticket so there goes my friggin’ dream!! If anyone can go to this or is going to this please post lots of photos and comment so I can stalk you and we can become friends. I need someone else to share my love of Zefron with!
