Meet Joe Black, starring Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, and Claire Forlani, among others.  For as slow-paced as this movie is, I love it.  Anthony Hopkins is brilliant, Brad Pitt’s role is by far the best he’s ever done, and Claire Forlani has the most expressive eyes I’ve ever seen.  The romance in the opening of the movie between the Coffee Shop Guy (Pitt) and Susan (Forlani) is sweet, and the poetry of the dialogue throughout the movie is lovely (see the quote copied below).  The Jamaican woman in the hospital always reminds me of my grandmother, everything from her look to her voice to the Jamaican patois — really makes me miss my grandmother, but I still love the character.

Certainly my favorite relationship in this movie is that between William Parish (Hopkins) and his daughter Susan.  They are so close, and remind me of the relationship between my father and myself.  At the end of the movie, when Mr. Parish is about to be taken away, and he’s dancing with his daughter one last time, I’m guaranteed to cry.  I think of how much it would hurt to lose my father, and seeing how Susan knows she’s losing her father without being directly told — it’s so lovingly, painfully bittersweet.

Hallam Foe: psychological profile of a teenage voyeur two years after his mum suspiciously killed herself. Bell plays a believable rogue nutter, and the rest of the cast aren’t that bad at all. There’s no doubting that this tried to be a totally ‘Scottish’ film, especially given all the shady characters and coarse dialogue. The story however is far too convenient, unrealistic, randy and plain old weird. In doing this, the film ends up being a fiction piece, as opposed to believable, which ruins it a bit. It’s not garbage, but certainly isn’t great. The main problem I have with ‘Scottish films’ (this, Shallow grave, Trainspotting, Red Road, Sweet Sixteen…) is that they almost always present all Scots as violent/murderous raging alcoholics that will pump anything. Overall, it’s interesting, but don’t go out of your way to get this.

Got word earlier this week that my movie “Not Forgotten” will be opening in New York City and three theatres in El Paso, Texas this Friday, September 11th, 2009. Which is like, tomorrow…so, yay!

Not sure what triggered this late-game release strategy, but I do know that “Not Forgotten” will be playing in the heart of New York’s legendary theatre district at the AMC Empire 25 on 42nd Street. If it does as well in the big apple as it did in Los Angeles, Austin, and Phoenix, “Not Forgotten” could expand into other markets, which would be very cool. No word yet on which markets we’re talking about, but, I’m still pulling for you, Santa Cruz!

In the meantime, to make way for the expanded theatrical release, our distributor (Anchor Bay) has pushed the DVD release date back from October to November 3rd. Sorry, Dad…you’ll have to wait a little longer.

A couple days ago I’ve wrote about height list of 50 famous males. And it’s so exciting, because I never expect that it will make many visitors come to my blog.

Investors are apprehensive about investing in film because capital disappears faster than in the blink of an eye. The apparatus of film producing is very elusive to the common public and to investors. There are no specific manuals or set formulas. Investors are subjugated to the discretion of the producer, whose job is to act in the best interest of the film and its investors. Unfortunately this is not always the case. Some producers inherently act in the best interest of the producers, exploiting the film as an easy opportunity to inflate costs and pocket change whenever possible. Once the money has vanished, it is difficult to prove negligence, and investors wonder why they don’t recoup their investment.

The barely palpable realization of a dream suddenly recedes when the film is sold directly overseas to generate a quick profit which is diminished by producers when reporting back to investors as a loss, all the while foreign and ancillary revenue accrues. Lack of oversight and the unilateral control by a few unscrupulous producers is a recipe for disaster. This is a common occurance in Hollywood.

The case of Shannon’s Rainbow uncovers the greed and deceit behind the scenes and is unique in that it exemplifies the independence, passion, and courage of the investors who are fighting back and taking charge for once. In the Shannon’s Rainbow lawsuit, investors (executive producer and producer) allege that defendants: director Frank E. Johnson, attorney Joseph G. Pia from Utah, writers Larry Richert and John Mowod participated in fraud and conversion, attempting to seize control of the film and sell it directly to foreign, preventing a USA theatrical release which was initially promised to investors prior to filming.

Antitrust, en film jeg nettopp så for fjerde gang siden den kom… Det er en god film, med en god og ganske så sannsynlig historie… spennende fra begynnelse til slutt. Ryan Phillippe ble ganske populær etter filmen Cruel Intentions fikk mange filmroller etterpå. Har ikke sett så mye til han de siste åra… Grunnen til at jeg ender opp med å se filmen om og om igjen er Claire Forlani, en av verdens vakreste og hærligste kvinnfolk… Har du sett øya hennes eller *swiiing* Hu e flott hu !
