My cousin came over for Thanksgiving for a pleasant surprise. It’s strange that he’s taller than me now.

The day after eating thousands of calories, I ran another 6-miler at home. Probably doesn’t even begin to make a dent in what I ate… Ran a different route today that took me through Clark where an old couple almost hit me with their car. Drivers are really unaware of pedestrians when pulling out of driveways or approaching stop signs. They just roll through or only bother to look in one direction. My right shin was bothering me – it’s always the right side that hurts, if anything does. I am convinced that my right foot is crooked when I run, but it doesn’t hurt.

I got a last minute tip that the Germantown tree lighting was happening tonight so we quickly packed up and headed out there to see what it was about. There were carolers, candlelight, reindeer and marshmallow roasting. We even heard Santa was around but we didn’t wait in line to find out. We’ll be taking the boys out another time for that. Just thought I’d share some photos of the little event. I had a great evening with my boys.

In Canada’s 37th federal election, Chrétien continues to benefit from a divided opposition.

The new Canadian Alliance party made up of the former Reform party and some Conservatives manages to pick up a few additional seats under new leader Stockwell Day. But the Progressive Conservatives under Joe Clark refuse to join the new coalition and find their presence in the House reduced to 12 seats — the number needed to hang on to their official party status.

Q: If the Pilgrims were alive today, what would they be most famous for? A: Their age. Muhaha. In 1

Q: If the Pilgrims were alive today, what would they be most famous for?

A: Their age. Muhaha.

In 1621, the Pilgrims sat down to dine with their Native American comrades at the First Thanksgiving. They wore strange hats and brought all kinds of European diseases. Tomorrow, my family will sit down to dine at the 388th Thanksgiving. We’re old enough that we’ve stopped making paper pilgrim hats, and hopefully no one will bring the H1N1. But who knows. I’m bringing a dog and a cake:

My blessings are too many to count (and we know math is not my strong suit), so that post title was a bit of lie. Still, I am thankful for my family and always look forward to spending time together. My parents are the best. I am thankful for Nick. I am thankful for my health, our home, each meal I nearly burn, and every day we get to work and play. I am thankful for my patient and cooperative co-worker and for everyone else who make my life funnier, easier, happier and generally… better. I am thankful for always having something to read. I am thankful for the CVS on W. Broadway, for selling a Snuggie for Pets for $9.99.

Also On Tap for Today:

Check the weather report and pack to head home for a few days

DVR Victoria Kennedy on Oprah

What are you most thankful for? And what are your plans for the holiday?

I think about us, our first hug, our first kiss, our first fuck. I think about the taste of your lips, not on your face but between your hips, the way you’d moan when I’d suck on your clit, the way your toes would curl when you try and resist

I hear your voice in my head, feel your hands massage my legs, and your hands playfully stroking making me beg, I give into you let me in we’ve crossed the lines of benefits for friends, tantilizing tantric takes a toll and we collapse on the bed like ragedy ann dolls

I play in your hair and run my fingers thru it, I kiss your solar plexis and put my tongue to it, licking your emotions like a bomb hoping I pop your cherry and you begging me let’s get it on, our positions vary

No two people could love more, you’ve become the air I breathe and the purpose I live for, you taught me to live for, the moment so open you got me, I said love was for fools but not me.

I should’ve known better, now my undying love for you forces me by your side forever,as your guide, your shelter, your king and your protector.

After a hectic week, I was looking forward to sleeping in a bit (7 maybe?) yesterday, but unfortunat

After a hectic week, I was looking forward to sleeping in a bit (7 maybe?) yesterday, but unfortunately we found ourselves scrambling to get to the vet as soon as it opened. Our little monster was having stomach… issues (I promise to spare you the details), so we rushed to the vet just as soon as they opened. This is where we discovered our dog is stressed out.

I believe getting “snipped” would be cause for stress. I’m feeling a bit frazzled myself, and I closed out the week with no missing parts and no sign of the flu (Nick is feeling much better, by the way. Thanks!). So I suppose Clark is entitled to his stress-induced colitis. Sorry, I think I just broke my earlier promise. After a week of little sleep and lots of worry, I am happy to be enjoying a lazy, laaaazy Sunday. It started with a little jaunt to Home Despot (just a few more moving boxes for tomorrow’s long awaited office move, a major source of annoyance this week), and Target (cake mix for Thanksgiving!), and a bit of laundry and cleaning. With almost everything in order, I plopped down with a stack of magazines and a cup of tea and have barely budged since.

The x-ray film is a nice touch.

Nothing beats a good book, but when my pea brain is a bit scattered, I love nothing more than the pick-up, put down, read what you want of a magazine. SJP as Carrie Bradshaw said, “When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I bought Vogue instead of dinner. I found it fed me more.” And Madonna wrote a whole song about the magazine… or was that about actually voguing? Either way, I don’t have any Vogues in my stack today (because Carrie ate all of them). Nothing fashionable. Just a few Shapes and Body + Souls. Here’s what I absorbed this morning.

From Body and Soul/November issue:

Cinnamon can help lower cholesterol levels and regular blood sugar. The cinnamon we use in the US is usually actually cassia, a relative of Ceylon (actual cinnamon). Both come from the bark of tropical evergreens typically found in Asia. Speaking of cinnamon, I still haven’t gotten around to baking that apple crisp.

These apples are patiently waiting to be crisped.

Want to boost your immunity and up your defenses against a cold or the flu? Brew a pot of Immunity Tea. On page 49, the recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of astragalus, 1 tablespoon of dried ginger, 1/8 teaspoon of dried lemon peel and 1 tablespoon of lemon balm. Simmer the first three ingredients in a covered quart of water for twenty minutes. Turn off the heat and add the lemon balm; re-cover and steep for another 20 minutes, discard the herbs. Add honey, if you please. Tea will keep in the fridge for a day and can be re-heated.

From page 79, raw or lightly cooked garlic appears to have antiviral and antibacterial properties and are thought to boost immunity. Gnaw on some garlic while your Immunity Tea is brewing.

And from the last page, “See physical fitness as a practice, not a goal.”

From Real Simple/December issue:

From page 136, fight free radicals (sources include irritants, pollution, smoke, UVA/UVB rays and cell processes like metabolism) with these 10 foods: unpeeled apples, pomegranates, dark chocolate, dried plums, red wine, artichokes, pecans, blueberries, strawberries and spinach.

According to the Money Guide on page 223, the Twelve Days of Christmas in 2009 would cost $21,080.10. The lords-a-leapin’ alone would cost you $4,413.61. I’ll take the french hens for $30; seems like a bargain.

I love the Sesame letterpress coasters from Cursive New York, featured on page 308’s Discounts & Deals. Click here to buy, enter REAL SIMPLE at checkout to receive the readers’ discount.

From Shape Magazine/November issue:

Once I get through this little pile of mags, and finish the three books I’m in the middle of reading, I will surely be looking for my next read. Shape recommends www.bookseer.com, a website that will offer recommended reads, based on books and authors you favor. I just entered a few books and the site recommended Good Evening, Mrs. Craven. I’m intrigued.

Three pages worth of sneakers, including two pairs of trainers I might consider for Zumba and other dance/cardio classes (running shoes just don’t cut it).

From the back page, 5 simple “stay-fit strategies,” which include cooking your own meals (and controlling both ingredients and portion sizes), having fitness DVDs on hand for those days you could’ve/should’ve/would’ve hit the gym, avoid temptation by bring your own healthy snacks to work, exercise in the morning (how many times have we heard that.. and then hit snooze?), and make time to meditate.

Also On Tap for Today:

Catch up with Kristine (unless she’s on her way to Hawaii already, which I think she might be. Aloha, friend!)

Get moderately organized for the week

Re-watch a few of the segments from CBS’ Sunday Morning (I especially loved the ones about cooking teacher Wilma Stephenson and Julia Child’s book editor, Judith Jones and pleasures of cooking for one.)

This is not a good week for the man and male dog in my life. Nick left Monday morning for a week-long business trip in Omaha, and if the Omaha part wasn’t bad enough, he landed in Nebraska with a fever of 103. He’s now down a few degrees and managed to get a flight back to Boston. Nothing like a day trip to Omaha! Remind me to delete this post immediately if his fellow passengers all come down with one of the flus.

And then there’s Clark. I don’t think he had any idea what he was in for this week, but I have a feeling he did at some point yesterday… More specifically, when the doggie drugs wore off and he realized he was missing a couple… parts.

I honestly tried to pep talk myself into taking the dog to get neutered on my own, while Nick was away, without going too mental. I even made a proactive call to the vet to make sure I didn’t need to do anything ahead of time (I have no idea what that might involve. Was I thinking I’d prep him for surgery?). Regardless, the dog seems to be doing just fine, with the exception of 3:30 this morning when he went totally batty.

This morning’s whining resulted in a call from our door person, informing us that someone had complained about the noise. My 4 AM instinct was to leave a note reading as follows:

We’re sorry to wake you, but think of it this way: It could be worse. You could’ve been neutered. –Your neighbors

Fortunately for everyone, I was too tired to execute this brilliant communique. Speaking of sorry, I’m terribly sorry Nick’s under the weather, but I’m kind of extremely glad he came home, so Clark (and our building mates) can be mad at both of us. Just kidding. Neutering is a good thing. I cannot believe I just typed that. I’m probably going to vom.

Also On Tap for Today:

Indianapolis Colts to beat the Baltimore Ravens
This will be another tough game for the Colts but they have the offence to cope with all the schemes that the Ravens will bring. They will need another huge game from Manning and either Wayne or Clark but these players are capable of producing big numbers every week.

Dallas Cowboys to beat the Washington Redskins
For some reason I think that this will be a lot closer than many people think since I was impressed with the Redskins last week and totally unimpressed with the Cowboys offence last week. Plus the Redskins have a pretty good record in recent years down at Dallas. Look for Santana Moss to have his usual big game versus the Cowboys secondary but I still think Dallas should be good enough to win this game.

Detroit Lions to beat the Cleveland Browns
Surely even the Lions can beat the Browns, since they are easily the worst team in the NFL right now.

Green Bay Packers to beat the San Francisco 49ers
The Packers showed they still have enough quality to win against tough opposition last week and the 49ers are nowhere near as good as the Cowboys are. So I will be looking for the defence of the Packers to have another big game and for Rodgers to get some more points on the board.

Jacksonville Jaguars to beat the Buffalo Bills
The Bills finally did the right thing and fired Jauron but that isn’t going to instantly make this team any better though you may get the odd player uping their game to show off to the new coach. Not so sure about them signing Brohm either but I’ll wait a while before passing judgement on that. MJD and the Jags should have more than enough to beat the Bills.

Pittsburgh Steelers to beat the Kansas City Chiefs
This is an ideal game for Pittsburgh after their huge loss to the Bengals last week. Playing the Chiefs should allow them to get ahead early and let their defence have some fun. I will be looking for big games from Mendenhall and Roethlisberger.

Minnesota Vikings to beat the Seattle Seahawks
Favre and co will be looking for another win this weekend versus a poor Seahawks team. Percy Harvin will also be looking to impress yet again.

Atlanta Falcons to beat the New York Giants
Matt Ryan and Roddy White will have been looking forward to playing this banged up Giants secondary all week and I just don’t see things getting any easier for Eli and the Giants.

New Orleans Saints to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Yes Josh Freeman has played well so far but the Tampa defence is still not good enough to cope with an offence like the Saints. Well done Reggie Bush last week who showed so of the magic that made him such a high draft pick.

Arizona Cardinals to beat the St Louis Rams
Kurt Warner will show the Rams fans why his new team has been compared to his Rams team in the past. Fitzgerald will look to have a big game. Only question remain is whether or not the Cardinals can slow down Jackson who is playing great.

San Diego Chargers to beat the Denver Broncos
Denver is in free fall and the Chargers are on the charge. Then you add in the fact that Orton is unlikely to start and this looks like an easy victory for Rivers and co.

New England Patriots to beat the New York Jets
The Jets early season form is a thing of the past and they just don’t look like a team that can go to New England and get a result.

Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Oakland Raiders
Finally Tom Cable did something right in Oakland and that was to bench the biggest draft pick for ages, JaMarcus Russell. Yet again Russell has shown that arm strength just isn’t that important in the NFL. Cutler and Russell seem to be fighting to be the next Jeff George. The Bengals while beat up will easily take care of this poor Raiders team.

Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Chicago Bears
Cutler is a joke and the Eagles are playing well so this should be an easy win for the Eagles plus all of Cutlers bad games have come during evening games.

Tennessee Titans to beat the Houston Texans
Now if the Titans wear their old uniforms for this one will the locals know who to support? The Titans are on a roll and I expect them to keep it going with a win versus the Texans. Though this could turn into a bit of a shoot out.

Sean AKA Nordic Soul is the Decibel Festival Curator and Director, he is my good friend and one of the greatest contributors to Seattle’s thriving underground music community. This is a very insightful summary of electronic music in 2009 with his Top 15 list at the bottom as well:

From Sean:

Every year it’s part of my job at PlayNetwork to come up with a list of top albums and overall assessment of music trends for the year. Below is my brief review of what I felt was a pretty landmark year for electronic music in the US and in general. Barring any incredible releases over the next month, these are my picks for the year. Keep in mind this list is strictly made up of albums; not EPs, 12’s or remixes (i.e 95% of the electronic music I purchased this year).

2009 in Review : Binary Pop, Warp’s Legacy, Dub Mutations and the Return of Sexy Dance Music

2009 has been an incredibly innovative year in relation to music production. Artists like Animal Collective, Fever Ray, Royksopp and Moderat have proven once and for all that digital beats and electronic sound design can appeal to a pop audience that otherwise wouldn’t find themselves listening to “electronic music”.

This year also marks the 20 year anniversary of the greatest electronic music label (arguably greatest label) of all time, Warp Records, which has had an exceptional year across the board with strong indie releases from Grizzly Bear and Maximo Park as well as strong releases from their more obscure electronic artists like Tim Exile and Clark. Warp’s 20th anniversary box set is not only one of the best reviewed collections of they year, it’s also a brilliant testament to the label’s vast catalog of ground breaking artists (i.e. Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Jamie Lidell, Nightmares on Wax, Prefuse 73, Autechre, Broadcast, Plaid, Battles, Squarepusher, etc).

In addition, 2009 witnessed the rise of Dubstep as a respected genre in the US through acclaimed UK labels like Hyperdub (Burial, Kode9, Joker, Zomby, Flying Lotus) and Tectonic (2562, Martyn, DJ Pinch, Benga) both of whom continue to blur the boundaries between Grime, Dub, West Coast Hip Hop and Detroit Techno. With the avid support of tastemakers like BBC Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs and Low End Theory’s Daddy Kev (Alpha Pup Records) UK Dubstep and West Coast Glitch Hop / Hip Hop have both become quintessential styles on the electronic music frontline in the US. From Burning Man to this year’s Movement festival in Detroit, Dubstep and Glitch Hop have fully emerged in 2009 as a staple sound in North America.

Another emerging trend has been the Deep House and Tech House revival, which has been experiencing a resurgence the past few years as club-goers have tired of the heady, sterility of Minimal Techno and the frenetic, over the top sound of Electro House. Artists like Gui Boratto, Voodeux, Pezzner, Milton Jackson, Stimming, Mode D, Catz n Dogz, DJ T and Dixon have all helped in keeping underground dance music both sexy and musical.

Overall 2009 has been a phenomenal year for technologically driven music, proving that creativity is truly catching up with the tools used for musical expression in the digital age.

Here are my Top 15 albums of the year:

1. Animal Collective “Merriweather Post Pavilion” Domino Records

3. Moderat (aka Apparat & Modeselektor) “Moderat” Bpitch Control Records

4. Fever Ray “Fever Ray” Rabid Records

Owen was a good little helper tonight and helped me make some pumpkin pie dip to take to his playgroup Thanksgiving lunch tomorrow. I love when he wants to help in the kitchen. It’s usually the time that he listens the best. He’s always so proud of himself and I hope that his time with us in the kitchen are memories he cherishes someday.

Clark also tried his first graham cracker tonight…and of course, the little piggy loved it! *oink, oink*

And I’ll leave you with the recipe:

Pumpkin Pie Dip

8 oz. package of softened cream cheese (we use light)

2 cups powdered sugar

15 oz. can of pumpkin pie filling

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon allspice

Beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar with mixer until smooth. Add pie filling, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice. Beat well. Cover and chill. Serve with graham crackers, gingersnaps, and apples.

Or you can just eat it off your fingers like Owen does.

Miss Annie Clark (St. Vincent) has been touring Europe with Grizzly Bear lately(sadly, I missed them). This time, a collaboration with Grizzly Bear’s guitarist Daniel Rossen has been recorded and put up on YouTube, I believe it was recorded in Basel, Swistzerland.

It’s not the first time Annie teams up with a tour mate, think John Vanderslice and Andrew Bird(but it’s not a rare thing for Bird too). The two played a guitar only version of ‘The Party’ from St. Vincent’s latest album ‘Actor’.
