Hurrah for Europe and for publishers who don’t realise that in these internet-enabled days, ev

Hurrah for Europe and for publishers who don’t realise that in these internet-enabled days, even a magazine article in *gasp* a foreign language will be translated and spread all over the net in a matter of hours. Thanks to german magazine “PC Games” (PC Spielen?), the final two classes have been revealed for Bioware’s upcoming Star Wars MMO.

As Massively report in the previous link, Bioware did confirm that the Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor will complete the lineup. They have chosen to keep the numbers of classes small, and have stated that each class will have its own personal epic storyline.

So, what do we have on offer? I’m going to run down the list and make some assumptions about the styles of the storylines and what sort of role each class might play in combat. I am assuming a holy trinity based game, I love Dragon Age as if it was my own child, but Bioware’s strength is in storytelling and producing awesome gaming experiences, not in reinventing the rule book.

Republic

Trooper

“The fate of the galaxy rests upon ordinary men becoming extraordinary heroes. This is the path of the Republic Trooper.”

“The Knights of the Jedi Order have defended the Republic for generations, but they have not fought alone. A host of unsung heroes have marched at the Jedi’s side—common men courageous enough to enlist and face the same risks as their Jedi comrades despite not having access to the Jedi powers of protection.”

It sounds as though this storyline is all about how ordinary guys and gals in the Republic special forces become extraordinary heroes and end up fighting alongside Jedi and … err.. smugglers. The gear has a strong military flavour.

As far as their role in combat goes, the official site has this to say:

“A Trooper’s rifle is his best friend, and the military is constantly challenged to design faster, more powerful and more reliable blaster rifles every year. Wielding such rifles and wearing protective battle armor designed by the Republic’s top engineers, the Trooper will not hesitate to step right into the crossfire.”

Sounds like a mostly ranged class to me.

Smuggler

“Stacking up enemies as fast as they stack up credits, Smugglers only survive in this galaxy by being slick, sneaky and street-smart.”

“Experienced in flying under the radar, Smugglers are amazingly elusive. Yet when backed into a corner, they quickly become cunning and often deadly combatants.”

OK, so the smuggler is Han Solo. Since he was the coolest character in Star Wars, that’s not a bad thing, and it gives a good indication of the sort of storylines to expect.

For the role in combat:

“Smugglers often rely on the element of surprise, using stealth and trickery to catch opponents off guard. Despite the sly tactics, they are more than capable of holding their own in a fair fight.”

So it’ll be roguish, probably with some tricks and traps, but the flavour text sounds as though they prefer pistols to melee.

Jedi Knight

“A source of inspiration to allies and intimidation to adversaries, the Jedi Knight’s presence is welcome in any confrontation.”

“With unwavering allegiance to the Republic and the light side of the Force, the Jedi Knight fights with valiant determination, wading into the thick of any battle to protect freedom and democracy and hold fast against those who oppose it.”

Wading into the thick of battle to protect X and Y, and hold fast against Z screams tank to me.

The combat tactics section reads:

“Whether defending allies by deflecting a barrage of blaster-fire or charging in to challenge a Sith Lord, the Knight’s role is crucial in any conflict.”

Defending, charging in to challenge nasty Sith Lords … it’s a tank. I have no idea where the storyline might unfold for this one, but I’m thinking Knight at King Arthur’s Court for the style of story and moral dilemma.

Jedi Consular

Not one but TWO Jedi classes on each side. We don’t have much information about this class yet, but it is known to be a ranged heal/ CC type of support class.

Sith

The Sith classes sound stronger than their Republic counterparts — maybe to encourage players to pick the side they haven’t seen so much about in the films.

Bounty Hunter

“In the bounty business, one’s name is everything, and with each mark a Bounty Hunter takes down, his reputation grows, as does his price.”

Well that pretty much sums up what I’d expect in the storyline.

“Tracking elusive targets across multiple star systems requires expertise, especially when the targets can be prominent, powerful, and often prepared for confrontation.”

“Bounty Hunters are renowned for their versatility on the battlefield and their ability to go toe-to-toe with force-users.”

“Whoever they must face, however, the Bounty Hunter comes armed with the most-advanced weaponry on the black market, packing heavy firepower but always keeping a variety of tricks and gadgets ready to go.”

It certainly sounds more flexible than the poor Trooper who only has her rifle to fall back on. The Bounty Hunter here sounds like a strong dps class with lots of tricks and gadgets up her sleeve.

Imperial Agent

“Agents of Imperial Intelligence track down and eliminate the Empire’s enemies—from intractable Republic senators to traitorous Imperial Moffs to bloodthirsty rebels with Republic ties.”

“Though there are few idealists in Imperial Intelligence, the art of professional perfection is held in deep reverence, and the Agent embodies the Imperial ideal in this respect.”

So you’re going to be Evil James Bond if you play one of these chaps.

“Though striking from a distance or from the shadows plays to the Agent’s strengths, a well-equipped operative is more than capable of evading his enemies when necessary or moving in close to quietly slide a blade between an opponent’s ribs.”

Again, the Agent sounds like a more flexible class than her Republic counterpart. They will be stealthers, with some ability for assassination, and also have ranged capabilities.

Sith Warrior

“Sith Warriors crush their opponents and stride toward their goals with dreadful determination, leaving ruin and annihilation in their wake.”

“A natural leader in any context, a Sith Warrior inspires both fear and undying loyalty into his followers and allies.”

It’s a tank.

“Protected by heavy armor and his powers of intimidation, the Warrior wades into the thick of the fight and unleashes pure hatred and fury to eliminate all who would stand against him.”

Huh, the Sith Warrior actually gets heavy armour. Well that screws up the plans for total world domination via robe.

Sith Inquisitor

The other newly revealed class, as with the Consular we don’t know a lot about this one yet. But it’s likely to fill a similar role.

Keeping down the Jedi numbers

So I think that all the Jedi are actually going to be support classes in this game. The Knight and Warrior will be tanking classes, and the Consular and Inquisitor will be support. The non-jedi will make up the bulk of dps and stealthers.

You have to admit, that’s quite a smart way to keep the numbers of Jedi limited …

Today was visiting day at City Honors. Many of the graduating students from ‘09 and before cam

Today was visiting day at City Honors. Many of the graduating students from ‘09 and before came to the school to see the teachers and students. This is always a fun day, not just for the students coming back, but for the teachers and students who are still there.

My friends and I observed that our teachers love when students come back because that gives them an excuse to abandon their usual lesson plans and live vicariously through the students who have gone out and started a new life. For us the students, especially the seniors, we get excited to see all our friends who we haven’t seen in months, and get to pick their brains about college life and what we should expect.

I’m always guilty of choosing to hang with the students who are visiting and neglect my classes. This year, I actually didn’t miss too much class and only came late to my one in which my friends and I walked around the school and bumped into everyone in the span of about 30 minutes.

This day always gets me excited and thinking about how it will be next year when I come back from college and go visit my old high school.

After school I went out my friend Alexis on elmwood, who I became extremely close with over the past two years, and we got some hot chocolate at Spot and caught up on about 2 months of hot gossip. Although we’ve stayed in touch via texts and facebook, it is never the same ad seeing each other in person and beign able to elaborate on everything that e have to say without worrying about a word limit. While walking down elmwood we saw our friends Liz and Ella and we all just walked around Elmwood and I told them about my college choices and they gave me good advice about visiting and picking colleges.

These are the best years of our lives. Although most people don’t want to believe this statement as being true, and choose to believe that being an adult and growing up is the best, i disagree. We will never have the times that we experience during high school and college. Once you graduate you will bever experience those craz, random, slightly awkward, but fun house parties that happen every weekend. We will never experience goign to the frat parties and makign fun of the broskis who hit on all of the girls once we graduate colege.

These times are filled with firsts and lasts. I would rather enjoy this time to the fullest and live with no regrets, than to play it safe and look back on it and say man ” I WISH” I had gone out with my friends instead of staying home. I plan on living it up, and not taking life too seriously aong the way

…so i gave my adobe illustrator class some of my photos to trace to help them get to grips with the various tools etc. and they went way beyond that. Here is some of their work:

Ok this one i wish i had done myself, Ravi traced the tree and then placed all these animals and figures into the negative spaces. I think it is brilliant.

I spent a wonderful day working with teachers and other interested students last weekend at a pop-up class sponsored by the Art Educators of New Jersey South. The class was held at Gloucester County College in Sewell, NJ., and 22 students left with lots of ideas for using pop-ups both in their own work and with kids in the classroom. Thanks to Diane Driessen for organizing the workshop!

I just signed up for my last semester of classes EVER. (At least at Penn –for now.) With graduation

I just signed up for my last semester of classes EVER. (At least at Penn –for now.) With graduation just six months away, I face the task of squeezing the lemon that is life. And while that means saying ‘yes’ to doing as many things as your heart desires, it requires the sensibility to discern what your heart truly desires so you can say ‘no’ to all the other distracting requests for your time that drift into your lap. Somehow, I always start with a list of ten classes that I want, and end up with four or five that either I need or can’t justify taking anywhere else at any point of my life other than Spring of 2010. It seems laughable –and it is. But it is true.

The biggest lesson I think I’m learning now, besides to live where I will have a short commute and can sleep quietly, is to say ‘no’ to people I like, to things I sort of want to do, so I can do the things I need to do or the things I love to do. This requires two things: direction (product of clarity, priorities, and long-term goals), and courage (doing things despite their consequences). I have heard so often that ‘you can’t make everyone happy’ –and yet I try so hard.

I guess saying ‘no’ is only easy if you have remarkable people skills. While I think my own are sufficient, it is hard to say ‘no’ without feeling just a tinge of guilt behind the ears. And yet knowing when to say ‘yes’ and to what are the hardest things to figure out.

I think it is easy to grow up clueless and dispassionate in a culture and society so driven by materialism as is ours. Google, the world’s favorite search engine does not offer its services as charity, and NBC doesn’t produce some of the best prime time comedies just to make people laugh. They do it to make money; to keep your attention just long enough to get your eyes to eat a commercial advertisement or two. Those commercials are crafted to pluck your heart strings or tickle your ego enough to build in you an emotional connection to a product or service. At least if I were trying to advertise something that is what I would do. Emotion tends to overcome reason. It is hard enough to try say ‘no’ to all these messages, and it’s even harder to say ‘yes’ to the things that really matter, or even to find a moment to get a sense of what they are.

To help do that I like to shut off my distractions. Then I just close my eyes and ask myself what do I want? Sometimes it is something obvious like a hover-bike or a boat; then I have to listen a little more carefully. At other times it is something else like ‘eat a steak taco’, or pick up a new habit (more like running, less like smoking). It is never an easy task and it definitely takes practice; but I think when I know what I am saying ‘yes’ to it is much easier on my conscience when I have to say ‘no’.

It always falls on the last few days of the receding autumn.

I make it a rule to go to the Cloisters on my B-day. Last year I saw the ice formed on the surface of spring water there. Yes it was that cold.

But this year, it was actually warm. I saw the sunset from the top of the cloisters. And it was just special. For many, it was just the same sunset, but for the birthday boy, it was something!!!

yellow leaves

The trees were shedding leaves and they swirled into the air. There formed a yellow carpet on the ground. That was also something you can’t see everyday. This would be luxury that we can enjoy only for a few more days…

As for my birthday, I had a very small strawberry short cake that my great friend bought me and I was happy.

Oh, those who still want to treat me to something or buy me birthday gifts, I would gracefully accept it. I am very easy to please!!! Your company would be the best, though.

So we have Thanksgiving Day this Thursday. Some of you guys go back to your home town. In case I don’t see you, have a great Thanksgiving!!!

In the movie, he is a blind man and danced tango on the Thanksgiving weekend. It was a great movie. If you haven’t seen it, maybe it is the best time to watch!!!

And for those who stay in the city, I would like to let you know that Prince of Tango Club Meeting will be held as usual on Tuesday, Nov. 24th but we are having pre-thanksgiving party/class!!!

We will enjoy our famous “after-meeting” tea session more than ever, perhaps with turkey?, as well as the class itself.

I haven’t posted anything in a few days, mainly because I have not really had anything to talk

I haven’t posted anything in a few days, mainly because I have not really had anything to talk about. Classes were good today, well technically yesterday, but yeah. Tuesday I have no class, just a few exams I have to take online, so that should be nice. I also have to do my laundry like I always do every other Tuesday, and then Wednesday at approximately 5:30pm I’ll be heading down to the valley. Well I don’t know if its technically called the valley since its like two hours east of it, but I’ll be going through anyways to Globe, AZ. Its some really small city…town, where my sister currently resides for her internship. So I will be there for Thanksgiving, it should be interesting, and nice too. I was hoping to meet up with my bestest friend KP down in the valley, but now that she is employed I don’ t know how that would work out, but who knows.

We are coming back up to 7,000 feet on Sunday to finish off the semester. One week of studying, reading, writing, and a presentation, and then the nest week are final exams. The week before finals, which they call ‘reading week,’ should not be too bad, I have a lot of work to complete but it should be alright hopefully. Monday I have a review for anthropology and then my other normal classes. Wednesday is my group presentation which should go alright, I have to dress business casual, its only 5-7 minutes with four people so its not too bad. Thursday I have some little HRM (Hotel and Restaurant Management) in-class quiz on a guest speaker we have on Tuesday. I don’t know if anything is on Friday, but all throughout the week I’ll have to be studying for all the exams in all of my classes and also writing a ten page philosophy paper. We had a short paper assignment and so we can just add to it to make it long enough and stuff, but I’m not sure if I’m going to do that or choose a new topic and start over, I’ll be able to decide once he sends my paper back with the grade and stuff so I know how I did. I only have finals on Monday and Tuesday of finals week, three on Monday and two on Tuesday; they will be busy days, but once the math exam is over Tuesday I’m done! Wednesday I can pack and do whatever, and then Thursday will be the big adventure of traveling by planes, trains, and automobiles, (lol…seriously though) to Fullerton.

Reading about my classes probably isn’t the most interesting thing, but thats all thats really going on in my life right now. Oh, I dropped English for next semester, I decided that I’m going to take it online during the summer instead, I think I’ll be able to do better because I’ve heard its a lot of work, and I despise English, but I’ll be glad once I get that out of the way. I finished The Shack today when I was reading at Starbucks, it was great! Everyone should read the book, it took me a while to get through it just because of all the other reading I had to do for classes and stuff, but I finally had some time today to read what I wanted to read and got to finish it so it was nice. I watched How I Met Your Mother, Two and A Half Men, and The Big Bang Theory; a few of the things my roommate watches on a regular basis that I actually enjoy instead of espn 24/8! Later, I had nothing to do so I walked so Starbucks and finished the book.

I think I’m almost over this cold completely now, so thats good.

I really cannot go anywhere without my music, I think I would die without it. I like me some KJ-52 ; John Mayer ; Wale ; and the new Jay Sean album is pretty cool ; and I really like this song.

It’s been a couple weeks since I updated this blog – busy weeks, both online and off. I’m honored to be a part of the eduFire CLEP team, one of six people who spent this past week writing a syllabus and planning a curriculum. There we were: two in the US, two in the UK, one in Bolivia, and one in India, separated by oceans, but united by a wiki, a platform, and a vision. When the team leader unveiled his design for class avatars, several of us were together, commenting in ‘real time’.

I am linking to the official eduFire blog announcement, in which CEO Jon Bischke explains how the CLEP program relates to his original mission of reaching out across cyberspace to those who, for economic or geographic reasons, have been denied educational opportunities. That includes so many people right here in this nation!

The CLEP examinations have helped many students graduate from college in a shorter time frame and (importantly!) with less debt. EduFire is offering support classes for six CLEP subjects: Spanish, Psychology, Macroeconomics, English Composition, College Mathematics, and College Algebra. A seventh subject should be posted soon.

If you’ve read my posts before, you’ve probably guessed that my subject is English Composition. Oh yes, I do believe education can transform lives… and so can words. I am linking also to a short passage from one of my published pieces. It’s about my mother – born in rural Kentucky in abject poverty – and how she graduated from high school at sixteen, and put herself through college.

Here’s another tidbit about my mother. She was editor of the Baylor Lariot in the pre- civil rights era. Decades later, she showed me the piece she was most proud of. Ah, and you might guess, too, what she wrote about — there’s a hint in this paragraph. And in this post, you can see her, two decades before my birth, dreams ablaze in her eyes.

This spring we have both. Stephen Mauldin is offering Color, a one day workshop that introduces students to the basics of color theory. While this class concentrates on using paints to create color, the uses of color can be applied throughout art, craft + design. Kate Troyer has made color theory one of the fundamentals of Pattern Design + Printing, a class that introduces students to designing and printing patterns on fabric. For those who want a longer class, Benny Fountain is teaching 2D Color. This course an introduction to visual languages and guides students through a creative exploration of the visual elements and 2D principles of design.

Have questions? You can email or call us in CE.

Ok. Autodesk just sent out a email, ad hopefully you got it. It appears as though there have been a few changes since I attended 2 years ago. I have revised the last AU post, but am adding this for any that already read it.

No Handouts, No Agendas

“AU will not be providing attendees with printed personal agendas. Be sure to print yours and bring it to the show. Be sure to print your class handouts as well. AU will not be providing printed handouts except those for hands-on labs.
Handouts will be available for printing starting November 17. To print the handouts, go to AU 2009 Class catalog, search for the class, click on the Session ID link, and then under Class Materials near the top of the class details page, click the handout links. Some classes have additional documents or samples, so be sure to print all of them. “

…per the ’News you can use for AU’ email received this afternoon

Sorry folks. It appears as though cost cutting has us by the chucks again. Print Everything out!!!! Handouts, agendas, maps, and anything you can’t live without.

Don’t forget that if you want a solid breakfast, you’ll have to bring that too.

Backpacks

I remember the 2005 guys had these beautiful laptop bags, wheels and all. The shoulder bags we received the following 2 years were progressively less useful. Pretty, tough, nice, but I I can’t get a laptop in it, I really can’t use it. ..and don’t mention those mini-computer things… If it won’t run Civil 3D and Inventor, no thanks.

This year I am really happy to announce that there will be BACKPACKS again. I hope they are as nice as the ones from 2005….or better. (pic was taken from the Autodesk sales site) I don’t mind printing my stuff out so much now.

I am still miffed about Breakfast.
