Just got back from a trip to Detroit with for checking out the 2011 Mustang….two words, Stay Tuned. Can’t talk about it until January because of the embargo but this I can say, the pony car wars get even hotter. Look for a whole lot more about it in January.

After the Storm, Red Sunset

My very first car painting was this one.  I enjoyed painting this older-model truck, but the sky was my inspiration for this painting.  I had decided to experiment with the technique of  pouring paint from a saucer; meaning, the sky was poured onto the paper; no paintbrush was used for that. I had to plan carefully and make several pours, and tilt the stretched paper to cause the paint to run and blend together.  The resulting richness of color surprised me!  I  hope that you might enjoy it, also.

Kolby Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs had a great charity event for his birthday on Sunday.  I photographed the images for his promotional materials as well as the event.  The event was a Harlem Nights themed party and it really turned out very cool.  It was held at the 801 Chophouse in The Power and Light District, Downtown KC.  Check out the pictures:

How old do you think the narrator in this song is suppose to be?

I’m thinking probably in his 20s.  Because at a certain point he’d have to grow up right?

It seems I am stagnant right now. I am sitting at a desk serving no true function and worse still I am sitting in the stead of someone who, as much as I appreciate them, fills this same seat for more hours than I…. every day. What I want right now is hard to define…. what I want right now is visceral, is sense, is sight… something comprised of humming parts and rattling steel and scratching rubber and cold, black vinyl. My little car awaits…. miles away, and worse yet, hours away. That changes over the course of the day, from impossibly far away to merely minutes ahead. It’s quite a thing, this “patience”. I bide my time to escape this four-walled confine, which in its quietness makes me feel like something of an aesthetic. People pass me by without a bat of an eyelash, without a returned nod that I so graciously gave them. I am part of the surrounding “everything”… the rush-by of worldly variety that passes the eyes of everyone who seems to walk around with their eyes on the floor and stone blank faces…. which, sadly, seems to be nearly everyone these days. I digress.

I want to get out. I want to move. I want to run away, but far faster than my legs could take me- I am no speeding bullet on my own. People jest at my choice in automobiles, they laugh at the notion that I am without GPS or “Nav” or airbags crammed in every interior panel…. they don’t understand, and they never will. I drive what I drive not because of economy, not because of legacy, but simply because if makes me feel. Plain and simple. The dull drone of a late-moel Honda’s tires on dry pavement makes my eyes heavy and my breath slow…. the top-heavy lurch of whatever SUV makes my equilibrium hate itself for seemingly everlasting moments.

Then there’s Pennyworth. I had, for years, had a fixation on Chrysler (conversatioally it’s Mopar, for their MOtor PARts division of such reknown) A-Body compact cars. There is a “sweet spot” of model years, a short list of cars that were built as cars should be, with care and attention and enough guts to drive 250,000 miles…. my car was. Cars are rarely made to last half that these days, before a major malfunction forces a hurried Craigslist sale of that 6-year-old sedan while you rent a car to make the commute. That, my friends, is not the way for me.

Fast-forward to tonight…. I will ride the local tube-train to my city, and walk out into the evening air that looks to be cool and crisp. I’ll jiggle the key into the lock (it’s an acquired skill), I’ll shed my heavy coat before sliding into that black vinyl seat that shows little age except on the bucket…. four pumps of the gas (five if it’s really cold out), and I turn the key just for a moment- the whine of the starter and torqueflite transmission will disappear after a half-second, leaving only the rumble of the cherry-bomb exhaust installed under the car (which, I must say, I am rather fond of despite its propensity to sound-off the neighbor’s car alarms during the wee hours) and a puff of tinted smoke out the one-sided exhaust….

I look over the black dash, nearly perfect in its old age of 45 years. The chrome skull I have adorning the dashboard, facing out for the world to see, smiles back at me through the windshield’s reflection with a wickedly toothy grin as I pull the console shifter into gear and back out of the cheaply-painted parking stall. The drive home will be, and always is, quite refreshing. I crank down the window to get the scent of public transit out of my nostrils, and I can smell once again the old perforated headliner’s vinyl as if it were my Grandfather’s car…. familiar indeed. The only sad part of my drive is arriving home, where I’ll park Pennyworth and close the garage, and go upstairs- inside- the world stops rolling past here. Perhaps I should go out for groceries? coffee? Anything to get the world rolling by again…… just so long as I have my beautiful girl by my side to see it all with me.

ISPY: Name and Occupation?
HEZZY: Hezzy! I’m a stripper and occasional bartender.

ISPY: What type of music do you listen to?
HEZZY: I have really weird but very picky tastes. I love the Beatles, Faith No More, Ozma, and Led Zeppelin most though.

ISPY: What would be the perfect date for you?
HEZZY: I’m easy to please. Probably a day at the beach followed by dinner and maybe some Ms. Pac-Man at my favorite arcade/bar, Ground Kontrol.

ISPY: Any Stalkers that you’ve had to deal with?
HEZZY: Oh, yes. I had to get a restraining order against this girl in high school because I kissed her boyfriend. She started calling me 10+ times a day and vandalized my house, my best friend’s house, and my best friend’s car. It just been downhill from there.

ISPY: Classic car or exotic car? Why?
HEZZY: Classic! I technically own a ‘67 Camaro, if only I could afford to drive it! Classic cars are just so much more interesting to look at.

ISPY: Whats a typical weekend like for you?
HEZZY: I usually work on the weekends, but during the day I hang out with my dog and watch movies. Sometimes I get a bunch of people together and play board games. I lead a very exciting life.

ISPY: What do you love about being a Gods Girl?
HEZZY: Everything! I’ve met so many great people and got to do so many awesome things, like go to a tattoo expo and a comic convention.

ISPY: Do you have any tattoos? if so, do they have meanings to them or do you just enjoy the art?
HEZZY: I have a bunch. 11 I think? All of them have some kind of meaning, although one of them is just my friend and fellow GG’s signature.

ISPY: Chuck Taylor or high Heels?
HEZZY: Trick question. Boots!

ISPY: A moment in your life you are most proud of?
HEZZY: I placed third in a pole dancing competition a few weeks ago. That was pretty cool. That, or graduating from culinary school, which was incredibly difficult and stressful.

ISPY: Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?
HEZZY: I have no idea. We’ll see what happens. I’d like to be a rock star (HA), traveling, or interviewing people in some capacity.

ISPY: Any shout outs?

HEZZY: Dorky!

Collectors lately have been able to uncover a great deal more old GMC pickup trucks for sale than has been seen in the past.  Maybe it is the bad economy..  It depends on the way you label “old”, or as some people call “classic” pickups, an older GMC pickup truck is hard to outclass.

When you are shopping around for a used classic truck, ordinarily the best place to go is to your community newspaper classifieds.  The fact is that this is where you will be able to come across the vehicles that are really nearby to your home, but this is rapidly becoming an obsolete method for discovering classic trucks being sold.  Today, the internet is the way to go in your quest to find even local used vehicles for sale.

Sure, I graciously advise my own classic vehicle classifieds website, Buy Old Cars.com, but there are a lot of other places on the Internet to find that special classic you’ve been looking for.  Amid the different internet car ads sites include eBay motors, Craig’s list, and a entire host of other classic car websites.

When searching for a classic truck on the Internet, just be cognizant of the fact that not everything is factual on the Web.  You need to do your research.  Get a feel for the collectors who are saying they are selling a specific car.  Never send money to ship a car or truck without looking at it.  Go observe the truck in person.  Just be smart.

Keep in mind that GMC trucks can be found everywhere.  General Motors is the second largest truck maker in the world.  GMC has innovated in the area of engineering the best trucks in the industry.  The quality of trucks that have come out of GMC have been phenomenal.

An older classic GMC truck is no different in terms of excellence.  People who collect those classic trucks are not simply swayed by other kinds of trucks.  From the front fender to the back tailgate, the value is there!  Buy a classic GMC truck through the web!
