There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.  You and your dentist can discuss the best options for restoring your teeth.  Composite fillings, along with silver amalgam fillings, are the most widely used today.  Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.

As with most dental restorations, composite fillings are not permanent and may someday have to be replaced.  They are very durable, and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.

Reasons for composite fillings:

  • Chipped teeth.
  • Closing space between two teeth.
  • Cracked or broken teeth.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Worn teeth.
How are composite fillings placed?
Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment.  While the tooth is numb, your dentist will remove decay as necessary.  The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed.  If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection.  The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.

It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when composite fillings are first placed, however this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling.

You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment.  Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings.

Today, I digress. I’d like to chat for a minute about my new exciting endeavor!
I’ve been practicing traditional orthodontic therapy for almost 20 years. During this time I’ve come to many conclusions. The most significant is the belief that early, interceptive ortho therapy can successfully provide orthodontic correction and orthognathic arch development.
I’d been a proponet of fixed maxillary and mandibular arch expansion with RPE’s, Williams and Herbst appliances. They have been used alone or combined with fixed brackets.
Many of my mentors saw only one way to treat crowding: fixed appliances. Some of my early mentors include John Witzig, Brock Rondeau, Robert Garrity and Anthony Viazzi.
I stumbled along for many years and dealt with the myriad of problems associated with fixed therapy: namely compliance, hygiene and lack of cosmetic appeal.
Much to my amazement I found that Invisalign offered a solution to these problems. I am so proud and excited to now be a provider of the Invisalign system. This system provides a removable, esthetically pleasing alternative to fixed braces. Your patient wears a series of clear aligners for approximately two weeks each. The length of their treatment is determined by..get this…a computer!!! Can you believe that you send models of your patients mouth, photos and a bite relation and presto!!! Invisalign will send you a computer generated animation of the patients completed results…How COOL is this? Very!
My patients have enthusiastically embraced this wonderful treatment modality.

]]> <![CDATA[Fine Tuning My Invisalign Smile]]> http://nononsensebeauty.wordpress.com/2013/02/06/fine-tuning-my-invisalign-smile/ Wed, 06 Feb 2013 15:01:07 +0000 No Nonsense Beauty Blog http://nononsensebeauty.wordpress.com/2013/02/06/fine-tuning-my-invisalign-smile/ DeborahChaseAfterShapingOctober2012The first  series of Invisalign made a remarkable   difference in my smile.  When  I originally  embarked on adult orthodenture, I just wanted some improvement.   I wasn’t looking for perfection.  But at the end of the first   treatment,  Dr Jacquie offered an even better result– and at no additional cost.  I have waited more than 40 years to get a really  pretty smile and now it was within reach.

Dr Jacquie made another set of scans to develop the next set of aligners.  I thought that I would need another 8 or 9  plastic tray and I was a bit surprised that  my new set of aligners had 15 new trays.  However I will be changing them every 10 days rather than every two weeks, so the time was about the same.

I also got another Madonna-like  make-over  from Dr Jacquie– that  is she created a bit moreMADONNA 2 space between my two front teeth.  My two side incisors  had a shape that defies description, making it hard  for them to line up neatly with the front teeth.  They too were slightly reshaped to allow my teeth to form  an even row. 

I was a bit concerned that the aligners in this final push would be uber tight but they were actually more comfortable than the first set.  Even in the cold windy weather , I could forget that I even had them on.

After just  one month  with the new aligners, my overbite is rapidly becoming a figment of my imagination.  To keep me going, next week, Dr Jacquie  is giving me a complimentary Zoom tooth whitening treatment.

When I first started to explore  adult orthodenture,  another dentist told me I was not a candidate for invisable braces.  Instead she recommended two years of metal brands and attachments  at  more than twice the cost  of Invisalign.  Hearing that opinion, I put my dreams of a  nicer smile on the back burner.  Only a chance meeting  with an experienced Invisalign  dentist,  gave me the results I had always wanted.  The takeaway here?  Always get a second opinion.

Nina joined our team in August 2012 and we just love her.   She is sweet and gentle to all our patients and is especially good with the young kids.

We have discovered a few things about Nina that we would like to share with you.  First of all, she is a workaholic!  If she isn’t with a patient, she is organizing, cleaning, preparing and checking over things.  Things just get done when Nina is around!  It’s wonderful.  Next, Nina has a shy side, but can be outgoing.  Feel free to tease her like we do about her shyness!  She has come out of her shell a LOT over the past few months.  Nina says that her favorite thing about being an orthodontic assistant is getting to know more about the patients.

When Nina is not at work, she is busy being a mom to her daughter, Jocelyn and stepson, Isaiah.  She loves being a mom and is great at it!

Here are a few more fun facts about Nina to help you get to know her:

Favorite music:  Pop and R&B

Favorite food:  Mexican (especially her own enchiladas)

Favorite animal:  Dog

Dream Vacation:  Cancun, but says she needs to exercise more first!  :)
