A fucking movie about fucking killers in a damn shithole!

Ausnahmsweise gefällt mir der deutsche Titel Brügge sehen… und sterben? mal richtig gut. Gut zu unterhalten weiß auch diese schwarze Komödie, die eigentlich ein Gangsterdrama ist. Offene Rechnungen, Prinzipien und Sünde, so eine Mischung gibt es vielleicht nur In Bruges.

Es war sein erster Auftrag als Killer und schon wird er nach Belgien geschickt. Ray (Colin Farell) soll einen Priester umbringen, was er auch schafft. Allerdings trifft eine seiner Kugeln auch einen kleinen Jungen tödlich. Am Boden zerstört sitzt er nun in Brügge fest, zusammen mit seinem Kollegen Ken (Brendan Gleeson), der im Gegensatz zu Ray die freie Zeit in Brügge für Besichtigungstouren nutzt. Ray sieht als einzigen Lichtblick seines Daseins das Treffen mit der schönen Chloe (Clémence Poésy), die er an einem Filmset kennen lernt, ebenso den kleinwüchsigen Rassisten Jimmie (Jérémie Renier), der die Stadt ebenso verabscheut wie Ray. Was Ray immerhin ablenken kann, ist die Hoffnung, dass sein Auftraggeber Harry (Ralph Fiennes) sich bald melden könnte. Dessen neuer Auftrag richtet sich allerdings nur an den erfahrenen Killer Ken.

Brügge bietet tatsächlich ein wunderschönes Ambiente, umso erstaunlicher ist es, dass dort kaum Filme gedreht werden. Für den Film konnte dafür an fast allen Originalschauplätzen gedreht werden, was die Authentizität des Films und der Geschichte enorm steigert. Die Story wird von Regisseur Martin McDonaugh, der auch das Drehbuch schrieb, gemächlich erzählt, mehr wert legt er aber auf die Figuren. Die Killer sind zwar von ihrem Beruf her “böse”, entpuppen sich aber als fühlende und noch wichtiger mitfühlende Menschen. Ken und Ray haben eine freundschaftliche Beziehung zueinander, vielleicht sogar wie von Vater zu Sohn. Das Verhalten von Ray ist zuweilen jedenfalls recht kindisch, wenn er kein Interesse für die Kultur oder Sehenswürdigkeiten der belgischen Stadt zeigt und sie stattdessen lieber beleidigt. Ken sorgt sich um Ray und versucht ihn von seiner Vergangenheit, seinem ersten und letzten Auftrag abzulenken, mit mäßigem Erfolg. Der dritte Killer und Auftraggeber Harry führt ebenfalls ein normales Familienleben, liebt Frau und Kinder, fährt aber schnell aus der Haut, wenn ihm etwas gegen den Strich geht. Dann schreckt er auch nicht vor Gewalt zurück.

Ken: Coming up?
Ray: What’s up there?
Ken: The view.
Ray: The view of what? The view of down here? I can see that down here.
Ken: Ray, you are about the worst tourist in the whole world.
Ray: Ken, I grew up in Dublin. I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn’t, so it doesn’t.

Diese Balance zwischen Menschen und Ungeheuern, die im Film gehalten wird, spiegelt sich auch mit dem teils schwarzen Humor und der Dramatik wieder. Insbesondere die Figur von Ray meistert diesen Balanceakt und das muss man Colin Farell groß zuschreiben, der seine Gesichtszüge zu tollen Grimassen verzieht und in anderen Szenen völlig die Fassung verliert und zusammenbricht. Das Zusammenspiel des Ensembles funktioniert ebenfalls hervorragend. Hilfreich dabei könnte auch die gemeinsame Zusammenarbeit von Ralph Fiennes, Clémence Poésy und Brendan Gleeson an Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire gewesen sein. Ansonsten nimmt der Film sich auch selbst auf die Schippe und mit sich die Stadt, wenn der amerikanische Schauspieler Jimmy über das schlechte Umfeld des Films lästert. Geflucht wird im Film ohnehin genug, sodass es sogar im Featurette “Fucking Bruges” in anderthalb Minuten gewürdigt wurde.

IN BRUGES av Martin McDonagh (2008)

Jag har aldrig känt mig övertygad om att det skulle vara särskilt lyckat att låta Mike Leigh och Quentin Tarantino regissera en film tillsammans. I själva verket har jag aldrig ens tänkt tanken. Det har dock uppenbarligen Martin McDonagh, men drabbad av insikten att samarbetet sannolikt aldrig blir av har han gjort filmen själv. Den heter In Bruges.

Upplägget är ganska ovanligt. Ett rätt intensivt relationsdrama som mycket minner om Mike Leighs filmer men i det här Tarantinoliknande fallet mellan tre yrkesmördande män. Vidunderligt vackra stadsscenerier från Brygge i Belgien, där filmen utspelas, varvat med brutala, blodiga uppgörelser mellan yrkesmördarna. Fast inledningsvis turistar ett par av dem i den vackra staden, samtidigt som vänskapsrelationen mellan dem utvecklas och kompliceras.

Det här fungerar förstås inte, eftersom intrigen kräver att både yrkesmördarna och människorna i deras närmaste omgivning beter sig stundtals häpnadsväckande korkat för att det alls ska bli någon film. Om bara ett par av rollgestalterna handlat marginellt förnuftigare skulle filmen ha tagit slut efter tjugo minuter. Fast det räcker inte med oprofessionella professionella yrkesmördare och människor som beter sig korkat i deras omgivning. För att intrigen inte ska falla ihop krävs dessutom ett antal osannolika sammanträffanden och en del rollgestalters oförklarliga kunskap om var andra rollgestalter för stunden råkar befinna sig.

Trots det finns det sekvenser som fungerar utmärkt, främst de inledande med Colin Farrell och Brendan Gleeson. Relationen mellan de båda yrkesmördarna, som fått den till en början obegripliga ordern att bege sig från London till Brygge, är intressant och väl gestaltad av de båda skådespelarna, som gör rolltolkningar som är djupare än filmens intrig förtjänar. Men till detta kommer alltså överrumplande och påklistrade sekvenser som gnisslande påtvingat för intrigen framåt men inte går att tro på.

Så man borde ha bestämt sig för vilken film man egentligen ville göra. Ett inkännande relationsdrama eller en brutal, mycket enkel gangsterfilm. Nu blir det väldigt mycket av kyckling med vaniljsås. Det går inte ihop.

Fast stadsscenerierna från Brygge är så praktfulla att jag måste ge vad som rimligen är stadens produktplacerande turistråd en eloge. Filmen lockar faktiskt till besök.

Najpierw Strzelaj Potem Zwiedzaj

Rok mi zajęło zanim obejrzałem ten film. Uprzednio, przy pierwszej próbie, wyłączyliśmy go, bo nas znudził. Było nie było – na imprezę taki nie nadaje się z dwóch powodów – jest kameralny i ambitny. A najlepsze jest to, iż to film o płatnych mordercach. Na dodatek niebiańsko sfilmowany.

Ken (Brendan Gleeson) i Ray (Colin Farrel) właśnie schrzanili swoją ostatnią robotę i zostają wysłani na wakacje do pięknej Brugii. Spędzają czas na zwiedzaniu pięknych zakątków miasta, jednak Ray czuje się zanudzony i oczekuje jak najszybszego powrotu do “cywilizacji”. Jego niechęć do miasta przerywa młoda i piękna Chloë (Clémence Poésy – znacie ją z Czary Ognia), którą spotyka planie filmowym. Od tej chwili Ray wydaje się być cały w skowronkach, choć trudno powiedzieć, że wszystko idzie mu perfecto. Otóż, Ray nie wie jeszcze, że Ken dostał nakaz zabicia go za ostatnie nieudane zlecenie. Ponieważ nie wszystko idzie zgodnie z planem ich pracodawca  (Ralpf Fiennes) postawia wziąć sprawy we własne ręce i wyrusza do Brugi.

Właściwie wszystko w tym filmie; aktorstwo, reżyseria, scenariusz, dialogi i zdjęcia stoją na najwyższym poziomie. Dla przeciętnego popcornowego zjadacza filmów sensacyjnych produkcja ta może okazać się zawodem, bowiem to całkiem poważny film traktujący o tym, jak to jest być płatnym zabójcą… z sumieniem. Niejeden widz może zadać pytanie “Jak u diabła można mieć sumienie jednocześnie zabijając ludzi?”. W czarnych komediach właściwie wszystko jest możliwe. Gatunek ten umożliwia kręcenie historii, które choć na bakier z mentalnością potrafią opowiadać po ludzku o czymś, co wydaje się po prostu złe i basta. Nie zdradzając szczegółów fabuły trudno wytłumaczyć postępowania bohaterów, dlatego ograniczę się do stwierdzenia, iż ten film.., to cholernie dobry film. Nie arcydzieło, choć ociera się o nie w pewnych momentach. Osobiście uwielbiam takie filmy, bowiem nigdy nie wiadomo co się stanie. Fabuła wybija się z wszelkich ogranych schematów dotyczących historii o zabójcach i dlatego… takie filmy przechodzą bez większego echa.

Myślę, że największymi zaletami tej produkcji są cudowne, wręcz bajeczne zdjęcia Eigili Brylda oraz rewelacyjne, okraszone angielskim poczuciem humoru dialogi. Te pierwsze nadają historii klimat, który najlepiej porównać z jakimś snem, szczególnie jeśli mowa o scenach dziejących się w nocy. Cudowna gra świateł w połączeniu z piękną architekturą Brugii zapiera dech w piersiach i pozostaje na długo w pamięci.

To czarna komedia, więc finał nie pozostawia złudzeń. Wbija w fotel niespodziewanym ładunkiem emocji. Trzeba przyznać, że ostatnie minuty filmu to małe arcydzieło. Zarówno w formie fabularnej jak i wizualnej. Oprócz kilku małych detali trudno znaleźć jakąś poważną wadę. Wszystko tutaj dopięte jest na ostatni guzik. Nie jest to jednak film dla każdego, bowiem dużo tutaj metafizyki, rozmów o życiu po śmierci, Bogu, religii i honorze. Twórcy ani na chwilą nie otarli się o pretensjonalność, patos czy przegięcie formy. Dzięki temu film ogląda się wyśmienicie i pomimo obranej tematyki nie czujemy się jak uczeń podstawówki, któremu wbija się do głowy co jest dobre a co złe. Prawdę rzekłszy, wszystko zależy od punktu widzenia.

Polecam. Film niemal genialny, chwilami mocno szarpiący nerwy. Masa świetnych dialogów i aktorstwo pierwszej klasy. Do tego cudownie sfilmowana Brugia. Nic, tylko oglądać i zachwycać się zarówno fabularną jak i wizualną stroną filmu.
