Unless you’re under the age of 15, or happen to be like Helen Keller (or was it Anne Frank?), you ha

Unless you’re under the age of 15, or happen to be like Helen Keller (or was it Anne Frank?), you have probably heard of the new film, “Paranormal Activity.” Not since “The Blair Witch Project” has a horror film had this much buzz about literally scaring the shit out of its viewer. Now, you’re probably reading this going why the hell is this new guy writing about some horror movie on a blog named “Let’s Blog Sports.” And ya know what, it’s a good question and you will find out soon enough. “Paranormal Activity” has used a viral campaign to promote itself, as the studio clearly did not have too much confidence in its little $11,000 indie film. But since its original limited U.S. release on September 25th, the movie has been demanded in so many cities that it is nearing the 1 million “Demand it’s!” that the studio said would give it a nation-wide release. This would become the first film ever to have its nation wide release decided by the fans. I have yet to see this movie, although I cannot wait, and will hopefully be there tonight in Farmingdale, NY. If the “audience” in the incredibly well done trailer is any indication, we may be leaving the theatre with a couple of milk duds in our boxers (and nope, not the candy). For the sake of the horror genre, which just so happens to be my favorite, I hope for this film to be scary as hell and to be a complete success with the result my inability to sleep that night.

Now, remember when I got you to ask yourself why the hell you’re reading an article about a horror movie on such a great sports blog as we have here? Well, here is my attempt. Enter the Denver Broncos. There has got to be some paranormal activity going on in that locker room. This team went from having possibly the worst off-season in the history of sports (except for maybe the Mets-but that’s just every year), to being one of the best teams in the NFL at 4-0. How does that even happen? Let’s get this straight…A team loses its star quarterback, legendary head coach, sanity and happiness of star wide receiver, and above all; fan’s respect, and suddenly they can throw, hit, and play with the best of them? How is that even possible? There is only one explanation, paranormal activity. We’ve all seen “Angels in the Outfield”, but what about ghosts in the end zone? Maybe the Denver Broncos are actually part of that clever marketing ploy of “Paranormal Activity,” with week 1 starting it all. Can it be that the “evil ghost spirit” (or whatever the hell it actually ends up being) that we see throw someone across the room in the trailer, helped Denver on that game winning play? How else do you explain that Kyle Orton game winner? I mean, c’mon it’s Kyle Orton, he had to have been playing possessed or something. I know what you’re thinking, but hey, it’s possible. Especially in the NFL, as it proved last season with the Miami Dolphins going from 1-15 to 11-5, and the Falcons leaping from the organizational equivalent of this…

to a Super Bowl contender in just 2 seasons. In all likelihood (at least I hope, ghosts scare the crap out of me), nothing I wrote about Denver will actually turn out to be true. But if Denver continues to win like they have, one can only speculate…

How is that for a first post? Just by the looks of the tags, this is possibly the worlds most random, but awesome post ever. Beat that, Denver Broncos.

The fist of God needs to be lowered on Kevin Smith’s career. Clerks 2 is one third of a good m

The fist of God needs to be lowered on Kevin Smith’s career.

Clerks 2 is one third of a good movie – and that’s because Jay and Silent Bob appear in one third of the film.

The other two thirds of Clerks 2 is as good as a three day old sweaty ass seat. So often accident is the agency of enlightenment, in this case, it is the agency of crap.

Something has gone fruity in Kevin Smith’s brain. Who could read this script and not recognise the highest possible level of funk and badass humanly achievable in one place. Apparently Kevin Smith – because he also wrote this steaming pile of fail.

The script is wrong, the tone is wrong, the dynamic is wrong and the content, at least for those bits without Jay and Silent Bob, is wrong.

Jay (Jason Mewes) the slacker freakazoid and better half of Jay and Silent Bob, carries the turgid weight of this movie, although you will need a freak to English dictionary to decode anything he says. The two best bits of the film are all Jason Mewes…..

I’m fucking bored man

Bob Rap and Bible Chat

And some enterprising soul has reduced this movie to it’s ideal running time……

the best 10 min of clerks 2

Jeff Anderson (Randal) is pompous and bombastic, being more than a little intense in his search for a laugh.

Brian O’Halloran (Dante) lacks even the most basic acting skills and is the Xerox machine of humour (by the way, have you heard of Nair?)

Rosario Dawson is appalling – with exaggerated head bobbing (just pose dagnamit) and over-acting to burn.

So, in summary, this movie tastes like dirt, and if Kevin Smith is given money to make another movie, his security guards will have to stop me pulling his hair out.

Yours, will tying on a bandana and preparing to lead the revolution

Righteous

p.s. make a kilo of fat desirable. Put a nipple on it

So the self styled ‘King of Pop’ has died a remarkably tragic death and all media outlet

So the self styled ‘King of Pop’ has died a remarkably tragic death and all media outlets are going crazy over it. I happened to be in work when my mate received a txt saying he had died, we switched over to Sky News and sure enough, it was all going off. The bar went pretty much silent as everyone looked at the screens and then in an instant, everyone reached for their phones, myself included. I must have txt most of my phone book. Not sure why, it just felt like it was something that had to be shared.

Now my feelings with regards to Michael Jackson are mixed.

On one hand I can’t help but loathe the interview he did, where he speaks of welcoming children into his bed to sleep with him. The stories of the ‘Jesus juice’, sleepovers, the payouts, it all made me uneasy to the extreme (if you have read my rant, you understand my feelings on anything regarding child abuse)

On the other hand thogh, Michael Jackson was my first music idol. I, like most people, loved his music. I tried for so ong to learn the moonwalk(still can’t do it), i climbed up and sat in a tree aged 8 with binoculars and my dad, to watch his show at Glasgow Green and following that show, the next day i bought my first album with my saved up pocket money, Dangerous, on cassette.

So if i’m honest, it did shake me a little to see he had died, in the way that sometimes you forget that these people on TV are just normal people with the same fears and fragile lives as ourselves.

So insted of the usual sort of video tributes, i’m going to post 3 videos of how Michael Jackson should and hopefully will be remembered.

1. The old school happy Jackson 5 days…

2.The Still got it Michael….. Must admit, this is amazing

3. My ’secret’ favourite Michael song, even if it is a cover

Ok, its not a different tribute but its my wee tribute.

Here’s another awesome interview with my favorite time-traveling resistance fighter (and 90210 alumnus), only this time it’s (relatively) spoiler free. BAG and Geek Out Loud podcast host Steve geek out about Star Wars. Awesome is understating it. There’s also a little talk about 90210 (the original, of course), and paint-balling the paparazzi, which, surprisingly, is illegal–who knew? Click on the link below, or download it from iTunes. The interview begins about 26 minutes in, and stop listening at the 1 hour and 25 minute mark to avoid spoilers. Enjoy.

Geek Out Loud

Also, fun fact: Brian and his girlfriend Megan Fox (Transformers) have Star Wars vs. The Lord of the Rings debates. Seriously. Watch the excerpt from Clerks II below to get an idea ;D Just imagine that the conversation is happening between two ridiculously hot people. Hee. Warning: Don’t watch the video below if you’re sensitive to foul and offensive language.

So recently they have changed the music at the little retail castle where I work. Now, it’s a

So recently they have changed the music at the little retail castle where I work. Now, it’s a fact that basically any job where you serve the general public is going to play shitty music, but for the majority of my time at this job, it has not been so bad. Our retail radio has been a mix of funky 70s jams (“Jungle Boogie,” I even heard the theme to “Shaft” once) and 80s pop tunes (“Don’t You Want Me,” etc). It was not wonderful all the time, no – our low was the frequency with which we played “If You Like Pina Coladas” – but it was definitely tolerable, and at least once per shift I got to hear “ABC,” and my workplace around me would transform into the following scene from Clerks 2:

You know. Except without the whole pregnancy thing at the end. And without Brian O’Halloran’s HORRIBLE acting. But basically, life was wonderful.

However, recently they’ve switched our radio to the “contemporary” station. Something about the employees dancing too much instead of doing work. But here’s the thing: In the world of retail, “contemporary” doesn’t really mean contemporary. It translates to this really bizarre mix of 90s one hit wonders, shitty pop country tracks from the early 2000s and the most soft rock-based, least offensive tracks from modern radio.

It’s pretty difficult on my brain. Typically I’m on edge all day because I have to hear Faith Hill singles, but every once in awhile they’ll slip in a Regina Spektor or Rilo Kiley track. But it’s also interesting. The 90s were when I first noticed music in a big way, and it’s weird to see which bands and singles are deemed relevant enough to make it into our weird music mix. So I decided to semi-regularly (read: whenever I feel like it) feature one track that I hear at work each day. How does it hold up? Why? Because it’s horrible and appeals to the basest interests of the masses? Because it’s one of the few really good tracks to come out of the 90s? Because people who work for corporate businesses have no damn idea what anyone likes, ever?Ultimately,

Our first selection is “Lullaby” by Shawn Mullins:

“Lullaby” was popular at a time where I listened to Billboard charts radio a lot. At the time, it was one of the songs I hated and thought was totally stupid (I assume at that age I said things like “totally stupid” a lot). Today it doesn’t get under my skin quite like it used to (not like Faith Hill, anyway), but I still certainly don’t like it. I think it’s an odd song to last ten years – I don’t dig the low narrative and the high pitched refrain. But it probably stuck around for the same reasons that the general public like country music so much: It tells a sad, general story. People like songs about small-town sensibilities flailing about in the big cities. “Lullaby” is on retail radio for the same reasons that “Meet Virginia” by Train is: “Look at this girl. She is odd but beautiful but sad. Aww.”

Unfortunately, all I hear is that high note in the refrain. I’ve decided that my preferred high pitch 90s one hit wonder is “She’s So High” by Tal Bachman. It’s just as stupid of a song, but sillier. It’s light-hearted enough to make me feel OK about it being “totally stupid.” You can tell it’s light-hearted because of the wings:

I’m not sure if my place of work plays “She’s So High.” If they did, I might forgive them for playing “Lullaby.” But as it stands, my only memory of Shawn Mullins is being annoyed by him. Sorry “Lullaby,” no nostalgia points for you.
