Over the weekend there were a number of football internationals, I even talked about one in my Monday blog (England Vs Brazil). Now I want to talk about football internationals again, specifically Arsenal players always seeming to get injured in them. It’s true, at least one of Arsenal’s top players always gets injured during the international breaks. This time it’s the turn of Robin Van Persie whose leg has fallen off or something will be out for 6 weeks. Van Persie, by the way, has scored 8 goals in the last 9 games for Arsenal so at least he wasn’t in form. Wait…

It’s not just Van Persie though, Kieren Gibbs also got injured playing for the under 21’s and he is set to be out for a while as well. Bendtner aswell has to have surgery on his groin and will be out for a month. In fact, now I come to think about it, half of Arsenals team always seem to be injured. Lets go through the current injury list, so as well as Gibbs, Van Persie and Bendtner being injured so are; Carlos Vela, Theo Walcott, Denilson, Traore, Clichy, Fabianski, Wilshire and Djourou. And Nasri just returned from a broken leg and Rosicky was out forever with a mystery injury that lasted longer than the 100 years war.

What the hell is going on at Arsenal?! Do they practice with guns or something? Having listed all of the injuries though Arsenal are still second in the league and are doing nicely in all of the competitions. How long can that last with half the team out is a good question, only one way to find out really…

The famed Moulin Rouge puts on 2 shows a night, 365 days per year – during which 600,000 spectators enjoy 240,000 bottles of champagne.

Now lovers of nightlife have even more reason to celebrate: the world-famous cabaret just marked its 120th anniversary.

The Moulin Rouge, with the famous red windmill on its roof, was opened in Paris on October 6, 1889, by Catalan-born showman Joseph Oller. The cabaret has become known as the birthplace of the French cancan, which is still performed there.

Stage productions are lavish, with extravagant costumes, dramatic lighting, and moveable stages.

The cabaret’s current revue, Feerie, has been performed on the Moulin Rouge stage for 10 years. The show includes dancers, acrobats, magicians and clowns. While some 150 performers audition at a time, only 3-5 are chosen.

A new revue is expected to be staged by 2012.

Last week after the fantastic win in the Carling Cup, Fran Merida told afc.com that he wanted to stay at Arsenal and that he hoped his contract would be sorted out very soon. Sadly for Fran, his agent Joseba Diaz hasn’t seen the interview or possibly not even bothered to speak to Merida. Diaz has said he has an illness, well a love for Atletico Madrid which all started when he slept on red and white sheets when he was young!!

Firstly, what a load of b***x, secondly, the boy was born in Barcelona so I doubt if he would have adopted a love for any Madrid side, and finally maybe the love is for us, we play in red and white!! So Diaz, you muppet, I think it’s time that Fran Merida followed in Cesc’s footsteps again, this time though by giving you the sack!!

Diaby has decided to speak to the newspapers; he has suggested we can win the Champions League and the Premiership this season. I agree with you Diaby, we can, sadly though with you playing the way you are right now that chance is slimmer!! May I suggest he goes and tells the boss he needs a rest, we get to see Nasri, Ramsey, Rosicky, Merida or Wilshere instead and our chances to win those titles increase!

Another player who has spoken out AGAIN, is Arshavin, this time though the word ‘tax’ and ‘money’ are nowhere to be seen! No, he has finally seen sense and started to talk about Arsenal and football, he also has belief that this season will be our season. He even says he is really happy at Arsenal, good man! Every season I think that, but this season I really believe we are going to win something, as well as the Carling Cup.

We are right up there in the premiership heading towards the crucial stage of the season. Arsene says December is the month where we can push on towards winning things or can absolutely destroy any chance we have. Well, that kind of makes sense really, the good thing is that many of our sickies will be back or very near to be coming back, I just hope we don’t keep adding to the list.

Clichy is now out for a stretch as he has a stress fracture to his lower back, but Rosicky and Nasri were training yesterday so that’s good news.
The Clichy injury is bad news, but also spooky; remember the last season we lost our previous left back for a long period??
Me too, so maybe the same will happen, this time though, no sendings off in the final, and we come away with the trophy in our cabinet.

Talking of which, tonight we play AZ Alkmaar at home. Win this game and we secured qualification so I hope Arsene selects the strongest eleven to start the game, get the game put to bed early on and give a few subs a good run out!

The Mancs and The Russians both secured their places in the next round last night, let’s now make sure we do the same, only by winning and not by having to scramble back for a 3-3 draw having been 3-1 down, and what a lucky goal the third was!

Tonight could and should be a night for celebration in my house, not only because we are going to win, and win well, but instead of Coronation Street on ITV, a different soap, well I rather hope a drama will be shown – yep it will be Liverpool in France being knocked out of the Champions League, eeee’ and I can’t wait!! Have I ever mentioned that I don’t like Liverpool?

AZ will be confident; we will need to be focused. The goal they scored two weeks ago will give them belief, belief that they can come to us and attack from the start. That will be good for us, the game will open and we will able to play ‘our way’.

Almunia needs to be on form, they have said he is our weakness, but I don’t think so tonight. He did pretty well against the Spuds, especially after a long break and having suffered what he has. Tonight Almunia will show us all what he can do, why he is our No1 keeper.

Almunia
Sagna TV Gallas Gibbs
Nasri Cesc Song Rosicky
Van Persie Arshavin
Subs – Merida, Eboue, Senderos, Vela, Eduardo, Wilshere, Mannone

That’s mine, but I know Arsene will have Diaby in there

Have a great footie day, I can’t wait!!

Hola! We’ll start today’s blog with some bad news, which is not good, I know, but then, bad news is

Hola!

We’ll start today’s blog with some bad news, which is not good, I know, but then, bad news is never good anyways. Erm. Let me get back to the news. Sky Sports latest says Gael Clichy has suffered a stress fracture in his lower back and it means he’ll be out of action for more than a month. I can clearly see, Kieran Gibbs getting ready to jog up and down Highbury Square and get ready for Arsenal’s next fixture, which is good, trust me. Competition for every place in the side is good.
In the same news column, Arsene has confirmed that St Nicko will be out for four weeks ‘at least’. Now, that is not good news for us, I tell you. I know many of you are like… “Hah! So what? We have Van Persie, Dudu and Arshavin” Right. I know. But my point is, we need a tall striker who can win balls from long goal-kicks, free-kicks, corners and who can mark tall morons like Peter Crouch in important matches. For the time being, the only tall guy out there is Abou Diaby. And that is more scary than ‘The Omen’ and ‘The Ring’ put together.

There is an amazing article on our captain at Goal.com. After seeing Cesc score that solo effort against Spurs, even I had this thought in my mind… “So, is he the best in the world now?” We shall wait. We shall see. Ohh, here is the article.

In some non-football news, Stan Kroenke edges towards the takeover threshold. I’ve no clue if that is good or bad news. If you think it is good news, and you have a reason for the same, please mail us to attheemirates@gmail.com

We’ll have more team news ahead of the match against AZ Alkmaar. For the time being, here are some training session snaps. Notice the huge grin on Gibbs’s face. Hehe.

We play Man Shitty on the 2nd of December in the Mickey Mouse Cup at their stupid ground.

I’ll be back with more, tomorrow.

Drink loads of water, adios!

Well done Andre, you came clean, yes you didn’t have a good game, nor did Cesc and Billy was lucky not to give away a penalty, so apology accepted.

Clichy said they learned a painful lesson at West Ham and it won’t happen again, really, and what did you learn against AZ Alkmaar? Or doesn’t that count?

However, what let us down in that game is what lets us down so often, a poor team selection, playing good players out of position and the refusal to play great players in the position we play mediocre players.

Eboue, often the victim of the boo boys, so why does he get so much abuse? Because he is played in midfield, on the wing or up front as if he were the world’s greatest player, that’s why he gets so much stick, I think he is as good as, if not better as Sagna in the right back slot, keep him there and we won’t grumble, you wouldn’t play Robin as a centre back Arsene, so why play Eboue out wide? Can’t you see it doesn’t work!!!

Diaby, an enigma, he has so much skill, but he keeps screwing up, losing the ball and generally playing wildly out of position, everytime we see him on the teamsheet, we all collectively sigh. How many chances does he get?

Song, often the target of my unhappiness, he genuinely tries, he has the heart, but for me he is just not what we need in that position. He gave away the penalty, argue all you like about the call, but making a tackle from behind, in the area is daft, just plain daft.

The first goal came from a free kick, that just before Eboue sheparded all the way from the half way line, why isn’t he told to make a tackle further up the pitch? Dixon would have put the player into row Z.

Now you may get away with playing one of them there, but all three? It just doesn’t work and I’m sure if Denilson was fit, he’d be in there too.

Don’t even get me started on the keeper situation, since Lehmann has gone, we have struggled, why didn’t we sign Given? Why don’t we sign Joe Hart? Mannone isn’t the answer, Fabianski may be, but we need the finished product now.

Yes there will be people reading this that will say, we are still well placed in the league, we are still in Europe, we are still in the Carling Cup, so stop moaning, but we have been for the last 4 seasons and we ended up with nothing but promises.

We had a bench of Nasri, Bendtner and Eduardo, why did they not start? Are you telling me that Nasri isn’t a better option than Diaby? Are you telling me Eduardo wouldn’t be better than Eboue? Are we sure that Ramsey couldn’t play in the DM role, what the hell is Wilshere thinking, he has bundles of talent and yet he’s behind Eboue, a right back.

We’ve been here before and the players move on, because they want to play, and the boss tells them they are behind this player or that.

I do get exasperated when I look at the talent we have and never play it, it’s not like we even look good when we do play the others, we could see it was going pear shaped when the second half started at Upton Park, even the most die hard AKB would have been puzzled as to why we made no substitutions, then we made one on 82 minutes and one on 88, what was the point in that? That’s what you do when you’re 2 up and want to waste some time against the chavs, not against West Ham!

Now I’ll spend all week getting stupid little text messages from happy Hammers, it’s not fair Arsene, it’s the same old excuse, after AZ, you said the team will learn from this, after West ham you said the same thing. So what did they learn?

I hope like hell you have learned from this and put out a good team against Liverpool and not a bunch of kids, please understand we want to win something this year, it’s why we pay so much.

Please, please, learn from this game, we have the players, you just aren’t playing them. Wilshere, Ramsey, Vela and Nasri. You brought them in not me, why is Vela never playing? He has more talent than Diaby, Song and Eboue combined and he can play out wide.

On the subject of banning people, if someone comes on Le Grove and gets abusive, they get banned, disagree all you want, that’s debate, tell fellow bloggers they are wankers or worse isn’t clever, it isn’t tough and it’s not welcome, Le Grove is a site where you can have an opinion, not threaten fellow bloggers, we have women, children and senior citizens on here, respect that and you’re welcome.

Enough said, have a great day Grovers, tomorrow we’ll see what we learned from the last 7 days.

P.S. I have a spare for the Liverpool game, mail in quick if you’d like it!

ROCK & FOLK. A CLICHY. Manoeuvre et Eudeline respirent mon oxygène quotidien. Ils voient le même ciel, foulent le même bitume. Diable. Elle me l’a dit.

Quelques mois passent.

On me propose d’ailleurs du cristal.

On y croit. (Enfin presque).

It is true. 7 goals this season and McLeish’s Birmingham have scored them all AFTER 75 minutes

It is true. 7 goals this season and McLeish’s Birmingham have scored them all AFTER 75 minutes. (courtesy of optajoe). When it comes for providing entertainment for value, I’ve heard that the Blues fans are now asking for refunds on free Birmingham city tickets.

So if we click and when we do, we should put Birmingham to sleep BEFORE they wake up. Can we repeat our Blackburn performance or something as close to that? Especially after an International break? I suspect it will be a scrappy game with few chances in the first 20 minutes. I hope I’m wrong. I hope we are 3-0 up and the crowd chants “Ole, Ole”.

Defensively this is an excellent opportunity to shore things up. It has been our best ever attacking start. BUT it is our worst start defensively, to a season. (courtesy of Orbinho)

Call me a profound cynic but I really don’t want us to be ‘the Newcastle of the 90s’.

We won’t score 4+ goals per game. The law of averages state this as much. For the record I’m going for a 2-0 win.

Ever since Birmingham got promoted, I’ve kept a keen eye on this fixture. For obvious reasons. Many of us still aren’t over the pain caused the last time we played McLeish’s thugs.

It was a horrible weekend, there was also a bereavement. I lost an influential figure in my local community. And you know what, it was just 2 days before my 21st birthday. Don’t like to use expletives but I was fuckin’ depressed that weekend. I officially don’t like to celebrate my birthday anymore. Does anyone do after 21, anyway?

Is it fair to say our Premiership title challenge went downhill from there back in 2008? Is it fair to pin it down to Eduardo’s injury, Clichy’s last minute mistake and Gallas’ infamous sit in?

Statistically yes, we hardly won a game after that. Yet just a month or so before, we drew 1-1 at home against Birmingham back in January 2008. 2 points from 2 games against a relegated side is not good enough. And tomorrow we have to nail this team down.

By the way, just check that article out (for the home game) and see how many times, Eduardo was mentioned. Not meaning to directly accuse McLeish and Co but it doesn’t seem as co-incidental that Eduardo was taken out within 3 minutes at St Andrew’s, does it?

Ironically, Eduardo won’t get his chance to restore footballing parity. He is injured. And just as they were both getting better, Clichy and Diaby have only gone on to pick ankle injuries. If they don’t make it, I do see an opportunity for Gibbs and Ramsey which would be good for them of course.

However I wouldn’t be surprised if Traore plays.

Wenger reckons Almunia is a 50-50. Add that to Fabianski’s inclusion and wait a minute…Is he suggesting Mannone could be dropped altogether? Because that would be extremely harsh on the Don.

Whoever plays though, they have to do it for Eduardo, since he won’t be able to play himself. But most importantly they have to do it for themselves. They have a score to settle. And not just with the bookmakers.

Arsenal 2 Olympiakos 0

I thought I’d do another 20 points match review, so that it is easier to follow.

1. Criticized by many lately, including me, I think Clichy had his most solid game yet. He looked focused and was rarely beaten today.

2. If anything, most of Olympiakos’ threat was on the right flank where Eboue was playing at right back.

3.In the 89th minute, Clichy was nutmegged but Gallas covered the danger.

4. It was the theme for the entire game, any given individual player stepped in when something wasn’t right, tracking back, making important tackles.

5. Not much for Mannone to do. Olympiakos only had 2 attempts on goal but they were good chances. Mannone did well to thwart one close range effort.

6. That is 4 Clean sheets in all competitions since we conceded two against Liege two weeks back. Don’t jinx it now.

7. Top marks for the Greek support, visual with the flags and auditory with the drums and really vibrant chanting. If 3000+ Greek fans make that much noise, the return leg in Piraeus will really be something special.

8. Our home support was fantastic too, although it did feel a tad continental. A string of Arsenal attacks got the crowd singing and chanting a lot more. And perhaps the greek supporters might have had a little to do with it too.

9. Did anyone else notice the moment when Arshavin fell over near the edge of the penalty box a bit too easily? It was around the 53rd minute and he looked as if it was a foul. Wasn’t given.

10. That moment marked a 15 minute spell when Arsh seemed lost. His passing and shooting was off radar.

11. Diaby’s substitution changed that. The Russian suddenly became a lot more energetic and really threw himself all over the pitch, even making last minute tackles.

12. His goal was a reward just for that spell, it was really phenomenal. And I was beginning to think he was running out of gas. Was it adrenaline or much more?

13. When Arshavin’s cheeky backheel was given as a goal and not deemed as offside I thought, here we go again. Another scandal….

14. Zico’s team are well within their rights to complain. But to hint of a conspiracy beggars belief. They were beaten comprehensively anyway weren’t they?

15. Van Persie’s goal was reward for his persistence, it was a bit of a poacher’s goal wasn’t it? Watch out for a post on the Dutch genius soon here!

16. Much better game for Cesc today. He was definitely up for it, played with a smile on his face. Thrived with the likes of RVP, Arsh and Rosicky around him.

17. Another decent outing for Rosicky. Looks like Wenger will utilize him a lot more in this competition to begin with.

18. Diaby’s attempts to try Beckham-esque passing didn’t work. His direct running, attacking the ball was more effective. Pity he couldn’t score just before he was subbed.

19. I really think a team of Diaby, Arshavin, Rosicky, Cesc leaves us one striker short.

20. We had 20 shots at goal and even if the game ended 0-0 I wouldn’t have been concerned. Olympiakos really rode their luck.

Overall, a really enjoyable game to watch, even there were a couple of nervy moments. Two more wins and qualification will be sealed.

So Vito Mannone has just gone gained himself a man of the match performance which has produced a 1-0

So Vito Mannone has just gone gained himself a man of the match performance which has produced a 1-0 win for us gooners.

After last weeks win against Wigan, where he was not troubled, Fulham started very well and they were equal to us for much of the game. Mannone had to produce some fine fine saves to stop their front line scoring.

So last weeks win against Wigan was pretty much as much as a one sided game as you can get. Thomas Vermaelen scored from a header and then played a nice one two with Eboue to curl a fabulous shot past Kirkland. Eboue then (unintentionally) deflected an Eduardo Shot into the Wigan net. Finally, Fabregas made a fine run along the Wigan backline for Bendtner to fire a cross into the near post where the captain was on hand to knock it in.

So an easy home win to an average team, was then followed by a tough away game against a team who have scumpered us in the past.

As I have said Fulham were equal to us from the start. We played Mannone- Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy- Song, Fabregas, Diaby- Bendtner, Van Persie, Arshavin.

Mannone was the difference between the two teams. He made some outstanding saves. One one-handed save was brilliant from the 21 year old Italian, who from point blank range saved a Andy Johnson header and then a follow up Clint Dempsey shot with his head. The commentators at the time were saying it was lucky, but for him to get up that quickly and get his body in the firing line, he made his own luck.

He was confident in coming for crosses and was not afraid to put his body in the line when it came to claiming crosses, or even using his feet. Also to note is William Gallas who continued his fine start to the season with one last ditch block on a Zamora shot which could have been heading goal bound.

Our goal game in the 52nd minute after a Fulham attack was stopped and we counter attacked with a few lucky toe pokes, from Song and Bendtner, which ended up at Fabregas’ feet who saw RVP strolling beyond the Fulham defence and played a beautiful, looping, curling through ball which was expertly controlled by the dutchman with his left and then instantlly stroked the ball home with his right.

He wasnt exceptional today, he played some nice football in and around the edge of the box. I remember one time when he took on a few player on the edge of the area then played a ball to Cesc who (with eyes in the back of his head) saw Arshavin rushing through, only to collect the ball and scoop his shot over.

We could have made it 2 or 3 in the last ten with efforts from Eboue who pulled his shot wide and for our young Dane who headed over and had a shot heading for the far corner saved by their keeper.

Good result after a not so good display *thumbs up*

After 93 years Arsenal moved to Highbury as their football stadium in 1913, Arsenal found its new Home at Ashburton Grove in 2006-07, named as The Emirates Stadium. And at Highbury, the project was initiated to convert the former Arsenal home into 650 high specification one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses, with the development being named ‘Highbury Square’.

Today, Arsène Wenger, together with Club Directors and players from Arsenal’s past and present, celebrated the official opening of the Highbury Square. Over 100 invited guests, including current players Robin van Persie and Gael Clichy, together with Arsenal Legends including George Graham, David O’Leary, Frank McLintock, Arthur Shaw, Bob Wilson, John Radford, Eddie Kelly, Kenny Sansom, Perry Groves and Martin Keown, attended the ceremony.

Our second visit to Manchester has resulted in yet another undeserved defeat. The chances were ther

Our second visit to Manchester has resulted in yet another undeserved defeat. The chances were there, the woodwork hit once again by van Persie, certain goal cleared off the line and once again another blatant penalty missed by the referee. The performances are there from the team, the chances are being created, what we are missing is that little bit of luck that is required.

What is not excusable are the elementary mistakes being made at the back. In particular by Gael Clichy who has been given too much leniency by the fans because he has taken over from Ashley Cole.

Clichy can play very well, but he has become prone to more and more mistakes. On Saturday Wright-Phillips waltzed past him like he was not even there. The three second half goals were due to Clichy. The second saw Fabregas play the ball into his path, he lost it in City’s half and they went up the field and scored. The third had him scrambling to tackle or foul Wright-Phillips, he failed in either attempt and Adebayor scored. The killer fourth goal again saw Clichy lose the ball in the opponents half.

People will say that it is because he is an offensive type player that he got caught in possession. That is not true. His attacking play is very poor, he rarely ventures into the opposition penalty area and his crossing is woeful. His scoring record is poor. He offers little going forward except raw pace. Kieran Gibbs, a former winger, is a better attacking full-back.

If Saturday was an isolated incident, then Clichy would be forgiven, but every season he makes basic mistakes that cost us games and points.

I have never forgiven him for the penalty he gave away against Birmingham City two seasons ago. Everyone slated Gallas for his tantrum and Clichy escaped criticism. That penalty cost us two points and eventually the title that season.

It is about time Arsenal fans realised that Clichy is the weak link and that Wenger needs to replace him with Gibbs.
