The magnet: URI scheme is a draft open standard defining a URI scheme for magnet links, which are ma

The magnet: URI scheme is a draft open standard defining a URI scheme for magnet links, which are mainly used to reference resources available for download via peer-to-peer networks. Such a link typically identifies a file not by location or name, but by content; more precisely, by the content’s hash value.
– Wikipedia

Bittorrent

Client –

Distributed hash tables (DHTs) are a class of decentralized distributed systems that provide a lookup service similar to a hash table: (key, value) pairs are stored in the DHT, and any participating node can efficiently retrieve the value associated with a given key. Responsibility for maintaining the mapping from keys to values is distributed among the nodes, in such a way that a change in the set of participants causes a minimal amount of disruption. This allows DHTs to scale to extremely large numbers of nodes and to handle continual node arrivals, departures, and failures.
– Wikipedia

Magnet

magnet:?xt=urn:sha1:YNCKHTQCWBTRNJIV4WNAE52SJUQCZO5C
– Wikipedia

Torrent!!

Ratio

Well, we’ve all been working hard for the past few weeks, trying to get our shiny new brand ready. Our friends over at Hello (www.01134.co.uk) came up with a lovely new look for us and we’re loving it!! We wanted something that really represented who we are and what we’re about – and that would be flexible enough to grow with the business – and they delivered it for us in spades. We love the different colours and we’ve all adopted a colour and an icon – can you guess who belongs to which icon?? Perhaps we’ll run a competition…

I’m so lucky with the people who work with me in Portfolio Directors, they are as passionate about the company and our clients as I am – and as an added bonus we all love cooking! We always try and make our clients feel completely at home when they come to the offices, so we came up with the idea of serving them with tea in proper cups. We all got quite enthusiastic about it and before many days were out, we had cake stands, china tea cups and an oak trolley that we used as a printer stand was put back to it’s original use as a tea trolley. There’s a story to be told here as my husband’s lovely Granny bequeathed this trolley to us in her will – she used to wheel it in with home-baked goodies on it and china tea-cups – how lovely that we’ve resurrected a tradition.

So, to bring my ramblings into relevance – we came up with a great, and fitting, way of launching our new brand – a proper afternoon tea party!! The girls baked themselves into a frenzy and we invited a few clients and friends over to see the new brand. Heather from Hiho Silver (www.hihosilver.co.uk) baked us some lovely cup cakes with our new icons on them and Amanda, our Finance Assistant (I can’t cook!!) suddenly developed the ability to bake divine butterfly cakes.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us – we had a lovely afternoon and did the new brand proud!!

For Christmas our video department are producing content about celebrities’ favourite presents which will be shown on Virgin Media on you Mobile. Jeremy Kyle’s was the birth of his daughter Alice while Tinchy Stryder reminisces about getting an N64. But we can do much more than shoot, produce and edit HD or SD video at Que Pasa. We can encode any video – and audio, for that matter – to mobile and web formats and we’ve doing this since 2000, as illustrated by our 2009 Sony Ericsson’s Pocket TV project.

At Que Pasa we specialise in content for all platforms. This summer we planned, created and delivered a TV broadcast series for Road To V on Virgin 1.

What’s more, we have two Final Cut Pro editing suites at our central London offices which we hire to clients at a competitive price. Feel free to contact video chief Mark Antonello for further information.

The Rewired team with Rob Markwell (Pitch Consultants) and Michael Collie (BBC)

I can’t believe it has already been a week since we were getting dolled up in the office ready for the CIPR PRide Midlands Awards. Held at the ICC, the awards celebrate PR professionals and agencies across the Midlands region. Rewired was up for Outstanding Small Consultancy and I’d tried not to think about it too much for fear of being disappointed, but as soon as we sat at the table, my heart starting going. Luckily, my first trip on the stage was to collect a bottle of Veuve (I was one of the raffle winners!) so we popped the cork to settle the nerves.

The night was amazing and 21 awards into the show, Rewired was announced as the CIPR PRide Midlands ‘Oustanding Small Consultancy’. I won’t go into details but let’s just say the night didn’t end when the awards did and my bottle of Veuve was one of many.

It was such an amazing achievement for us as a company and a team, especially seeing as though Rewired was only been born 18 months ago.

Winning got me thinking about what an amazing year and a half it has been at Rewired. Everyone knows how much I love my job and the people I work with, but more than that I was proud of Rewired for having such a fantastic year in such a difficult economic climate.

This time last year, we had already begun working on some amazing clients; Taste of Birmingham, Hello Digital, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and The Big Picture, but since then the client list has gone from strength to strength. We’re working with some amazing organisations on some really exciting projects and clients.

We’ve maintained our niche of creative, digital and leisure companies but developed each of these client bases to include some amazing companies. As well as regional organisations like Screen West Midlands, Audiences Central and Ormiston Trust, we’re also working with innovative companies and projects like Mudlark. We’re still heavily involved in the region’s arts scene and continue working with Wolverhampton Art Gallery; currently on the amazing ‘Pop: Jann Haworth’ exhibition, which you MUST go and see. We are also working with Punch Records on some amazing music and arts projects, and so far have brought some brilliant music to the city!

We also have also strengthened our events arm; both PR and event management. We’ve done PR for BASS Festival, Style in the City and Birmingham Book Festival. As well as the event management of Producers’ Forum ‘Celebrate the Future of Film’, Royal Television Society Awards and a number of high profile film premieres and industry events for Screen WM.

As well as Style in the City, we have also moved in to the fashion world (much to my delight), working with Retail Birmingham. Style Birmingham, the consumer brand for Retail Birmingham, had a fantastic rebrand earlier in the year (courtesy of 383 Project, who I love working with). Since then, Style Birmingham has gone from strength to strength and is fast-becoming the city’s voice for style and shopping. This project is a major part of our leisure/consumer work, which also includes work with Lasan, Birmingham’s premier Indian Restaurant, who have recently won Best Indian Restaurant on The F Word.

There are so many other clients to mention but you’ll get bored if I keep going, but it’s just amazing for me to see how much we’ve grown since last year. We’ve just been taken on by a couple of new clients, which I’m sure I will be blogging and twittering about very soon.

2010 looks to be a very exciting year so hopefully, this time next year, I’ll be writing a post about event more exciting times at Rewired HQ!

Yesterday saw the launch of yet another UK MVNO (a ‘virtual’ mobile operator), GiffGaff.

A SIM-only, pay-as-you-go operator, GiffGaff sits on O2’s network and describes itself as ‘people-powered.’ Members are rewarded not only each time they top up or recruit friends, but more interestingly, for a whole raft of other activities, for which they receive cash, credit, or a donation to their chosen charity.

These include helping the GiffGaff team to answer customers’ enquiries, submitting ideas to the marketing department, designing adverts, contributing to – and properly tagging – the GiffGaff blog or submitting user-generated video content to YouTube and Facebook.

The GiffGaff guys are trying to do things differently and are obviously very excited about the concept of community and engagement in driving the network. We wish ‘em luck!

<ins datetime="2009-11-26T16:24:20+00:00"> Google is set to become your new phone company, perhaps reducing your phone bill to zilch in the process.

Google has bought Gizmo5, an online phone company that is akin to Skype but based on open protocols and with a lot fewer users. TechCrunch, which broke the news on Monday, reported that Google spent $30 million on the company.

It’s a potent recipe — take Gizmo5’s open standards-based online calling system. Add to it the new ability to route calls on Google’s massive network of cheap fiber. Toss in Google Voice’s free phone number, which will ring your mobile phone, your home phone and your Gizmo5 client on your laptop. ÿþ
Meanwhile you can use Gizmo5 to make ultra cheap outgoing calls to domestic and international phone numbers, and free calls to Skype, Google Talk, Yahoo and AIM users. You could make and receive calls that bypass the per-minute billing on your smartphone.

Then layer on deluxe phone services like free SMS, voicemail transcription, customized call routing, free conference calls and voicemails sent as recordings to your e-mail account, and you have a phone service that competes with Skype, landlines and the Internet telephone offerings from Vonage and cable companies.

That’s not just pie in-the-sky dreaming.

Though still in invite-only mode, Google Voice has about 580,000 active users and nearly 1.5 million registered users, according to a Google filing with the FCC.

All I’m saying is watch this space. Google will end up being a dominant player in the telephone communications area.

Cheers,

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 24 — Kelley Blue Book www.kbb.com, the leading provider of new- and us

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 24 — Kelley Blue Book www.kbb.com, the leading provider of new- and used-vehicle information, today announces the results of the latest Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence survey of in-market new-car shoppers, revealing their likelihood to purchase a new car on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27, 2009) and the effect of additional Black Friday-specific discounts and incentives on purchase timeframes.

When generally asked how likely they would be to purchase a new car on Black Friday, 55 percent of car shoppers said they were somewhat likely, and only 12 percent said they were very/extremely likely.

However, when asked how the availability of additional automotive discounts and incentives on Black Friday would affect their purchase timeframe, 32 percent of in-market new-car shoppers said they would definitely purchase a new car sooner than they had planned. An additional 65 percent said they would consider purchasing a vehicle sooner if additional Black Friday auto discounts and incentives were available.

New-car shoppers also revealed they are not very aware of any special Black Friday-specific discounts being offered by auto manufacturers and dealers. Only four percent of survey respondents said they were aware of such discounts and plan to take advantage of them to purchase a new vehicle on Friday, whereas the majority (67 percent) said they were not aware of any Black Friday-specific auto discounts, but would consider buying a new car if such deals were available.

Among in-market new-car shoppers who said they were not likely to buy a new car on Black Friday, 35 percent said they are waiting on better incentives and discounts, and 17 percent indicated that the incentives and discounts they are aware of right now simply are not good enough.

“The latest Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence survey data shows that car shoppers are hungry for deals this Friday and would seriously consider buying a new vehicle then if the price was right,” said James Bell, executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. “However, there is a perception gap about what special deals actually are available to new-car shoppers on Black Friday. This should motivate auto makers to heavily promote any special discounts or incentives so new-car shoppers can help positively contribute to the bottom line for manufacturers’ and dealers’ November sales.”

This Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence Survey was fielded to 121 in-market new-car shoppers on kbb.com from November 20-23, 2009,

The encouragement and support has been incredible, and I’m extremely grateful to have such awesome clients and a great circle of friends I consider my family!

So to celebrate this wonderful day of thanks, I’ve been launching a very cool project that will go from now through March 31, 2010! Each time you book a family, child or couples session, $35 of each creative fee will go to the Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities. The $35 is equivalent to one child receiving 15 minutes of therapy. This is part of a unique partnership I’ve had with this organization, which serves more than 100 children every year in providing speech, occupational, physical and feeding therapies for kids in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.

Best of all, everyone who participates in this project – Celebrate Your Child 2010 Photo Charity – gets a complimentary 5×7 print and 10% off any large print (16×20 and larger).

So start thinking ahead – Christmas, your birthday, family reunions, a new baby, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day… Get a quality experience with images you’ll love for years and – at the same time – contribute to a worthy, top-notch organization that has been around in the community for more than 50 years! If you’ve always wanted custom lifestyle photography, this is THE perfect opportunity to do so.

All you have to do is email me to schedule your session at shuva@accentphotographics.com, and I will provide you with more detailed information. Thanks and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

What makes someone – or something – influential?

For example, a PR with a client in telecoms is bound to say that the editor of a telecoms trade journal is influential. They’d probably say the same about Stephen Fry. But ask them to prove that influence and I guarantee you’ll get either a blank stare or a conversation about circulation figures, web traffic and – if you’re lucky – followers on Twitter.

If we accept a definition of ‘having influence’ as being: “someone or something whose opinions and actions lead to a change of opinion and/or behaviour in the audiences they engage with or who engage with them,” then surely both the editor and Stephen pass the test?

Not quite. The problem I have is that most of the time we’re not getting an objective measure of influence but a subjective measure of significance, and that’s not good enough.

While the counsel given by PRs on the merit of interacting with different audiences is undoubtedly valued by clients, the massive fragmentation of the communications’ landscape coupled with the after-effects of a global recession have given them a reason to question the relevance of every penny of PR spend.

Clients are forcing the issue of proving influence because they are no longer certain that accepted campaign strategies and tactics will deliver to overall business goals. Telling them a person, or group of people, is influential and that they should be reached by a certain method is no longer enough, it has to be proven.

I’m already having daily conversations with clients who are keen to rip up the rule book of what constitutes a PR programme because they don’t accept that the old ways are working. The sacred cows such as press releases and press tours are being met with the question: “What value is this activity to me?” and I’m finding it massively liberating.

Of course, it’s an evolution rather than a revolution and there are still plenty of companies who require the activities that go to make up a typical PR programme. But the pace of evolution will only quicken as the global trend of influencer engagement starts to replace the one-to-many communication models prevalent in marketing today.

With that in mind, Edelman is on a mission to find and rank the 2,010 (see what we did there?) most influential people in technology using our very own TweetLevel - a sophisticated influencer measurement tool that gives an accurate assessment of a person’s level of influence in the Twittersphere.

True, it’s currently limited to measuring influence within Twitter, but the fact that Twitter is being used by a large percentage of people involved in the technology sector makes it a perfect place to start. Look out for a call to action on how you can put yourself or someone else forward.

In the meantime I’d love to hear your views on influence and its importance in PR. Have I got this right? Is it the single most important factor for us PROs to understand and measure? Will it lead to a rethink around how we do PR or will the old ways always remain?

I came across this earlier this evening. Now I know in consulting you aren’t supposed to talk to clients like this but sometimes it is necessary. When I was in consulting I could name a few clients who had these “mind blowing ideas” and were assured to become rich if we only did a few things for free. This is how I probably wold have preferred to deal with them instead of being strung along. this email exchange is pretty funny and someone long but for anyone who has to deal with a-hole clients you will get a kick out of it.
