I’ve been rough lately on this phony progressive, Barack Obama. But anybody can go back and read my posts in 2007 and see how I was sooo excited about Barack Obama. Wow….he’s proven to be the biggest political mistake in my fifty years of watching politics. I will gladly take back everything I said about Hillary Clinton – she would have made ten times the president as this man.

My apologies, Secretary Clinton

President Clinton saw it for what it was: Smoke and Mirrors. It’s all become very clear to me now. Obama’s weakness and inexperience is highlighted for all to see. I really am sorry for all those Hillary-bashing posts. Sincerely sorry. I WAS WRONG.

HILLARY in ‘12 for REAL Leadership.

and astonishingly, there are agreements.

Maybe her campaign promises would also have been compromised,. But I think she would have been much more effective at getting more of that she wanted. And what she wanted — although not perfect — was a lot better start than this crap that Obama is pushing now.

The time it took me to post this, the topic got locked though…. It was an illegal admission apparently

I guess Amy Siskind was right when she declared 2009 the year of the apology

s a result, 2009 might well be dubbed The Year of the Apology. Chris Matthews apologized on behalf of Dick Armey for Armey’s comment to Joan Walsh. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) apologized for calling Fed Adviser Linda Robertson a “K Street Whore.” Letterman apologized (twice) for his “jokes” about Governor Palin’s teenage daughter. Heck, even Chris Brown apologized for almost strangling Rihanna to death.

The illustrations I chose reflect my feelings on this.

Had their mistake been a pure political one (he was more progressive, she was DLC), I would have accepted it and moved on.

But the name calling, the hatred, the sexism, the way we, her supporters were harassed – all this can’t be covered by “I made a wrong call”.

Still, I am glad they are waking up.

Trust them or not, we’ll be fighting the same fights.

here is the thread

An Apology To Hillary Supporters

and here is the …err apology

I never thought this day would come. But here it is:

I’m sorry. If I had known that my main man Barack actually supported the awful, corporate-loving, DLC-blessed stances on healthcare of which he accused your candidate I wouldn’t have fought so hard against her.

This is not the GOP style apology (sorry if you interpreted what I said as bad), but a few steps worse: had I known my candidate was as bad as yours, I would have bashed her less.

“Fighting against her?” Let’s see a screen shot during that “fight”

Setting aside the idiocy that prevented them seeing what we always did re: Obama/Reagan/corporations – there’s nowhere any attempt at recognition that Hillary was actually the better candidate, nor that their “fighting against Hillary”

was filled with hatred and unacceptable personal attacks on us

Still, one of the Hillary supporters that has been brought in line accepts it humbly

But she was attacked for supposedly being very different than Obama. The OP only apologized for being so hard on Hillary for being a sellout compared to Obama, it did not assert she would have done better.

I think the apology can be graciously accepted by former Hillary supporters and then we can move on.

I read it is a positve gesture to fellow DUers rather than a pro Hillary post.

Ya see, not being a pro-Hillary post, it can be accepted.(only it wasn’t – it got locked)

Someone though doesn’t accept it

But I will not apologize for our President when he was dealing with the same s–t that she was, corporate dollars.
from Anne’s commentary

Are Hillary Clinton supporters murmuring I told you so?

it was apparent that Obama was probably the most underhanded politician since Richard Nixon. The difference between the two is that Nixon used deceit to get even. Obama used it to get ahead. It all goes to character and how that influences decisions. As well as having a vision and sticking up for a principle, something he has thrown overboard on healthcare.

So perhaps Hillary Clinton supporters can be excused if they are now saying ” We told you so”. Because they did.

Finally, in all the progressives wrath at Holly Joe, a voice of reason Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.),

Finally, in all the progressives wrath at Holly Joe, a voice of reason

Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), among the most vocal supporters of the public option, said it would be unfair to blame Lieberman for its apparent demise. Feingold said that responsibility ultimately rests with President Barack Obama and he could have insisted on a higher standard for the legislation.

But then we know whose standard Obama pushed

insurers platform since back in December

Insurers oppose the creation of a Medicare-style public insurance option,

The insurers also do not support an employer mandate.

Insurers would agree to stop denying coverage to people because of pre-existing conditions as long as all individuals were required by law to buy insurance.

To help make coverage affordable to middle class people, particularly the self-employed and those who work for small businesses, the government would give refundable tax credits on a sliding scale, according to income

Lieberman just happens to be a co-worker of Obama, for the same masters. A much better co-worker – employee of the month to Obama’s slacker, but a mere colleague nevertheless. So Feingold finally lets the cat out of the bag, for those who lived in a cave (or are B0bots)

“This bill appears to be legislation that the president wanted in the first place, so I don’t think focusing it on Lieberman really hits the truth,” said Feingold. “I think they could have been higher. I certainly think a stronger bill would have been better in every respect.”

Of course, some B0bots are still desperately clinging to…blaming Bill and Hillary

“if obama did`t want this bill he would have told reid to kill it. this is another hillary and bill clinton failure.”

Meanwhile I think I am finally starting to understand what Obama meant by “moral imagination” in his Nobel speech.

Update

Glenn Greenwald also sums up Obama’s efforts in “helping” the reform

contrary to Obama’s occasional public statements in support of a public option, the White House clearly intended from the start that the final health care reform bill would contain no such provision and was actively and privately participating in efforts to shape a final bill without it. From the start, assuaging the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries was a central preoccupation of the White House — hence the deal negotiated in strict secrecy with Pharma

12/17/09: George H. W. Bush (alias for George H. Scherf, Jr.) continues to sabotage the disbursement

12/17/09: George H. W. Bush (alias for George H. Scherf, Jr.) continues to sabotage the disbursement of the $47 TRILLION Settlement funds to China (a portion of which also will reimburse the British Monarchy).

Today’s update from Christopher Story, Editor of “World Reports” Global Analysis (U.K.), alleges a mounting international crisis due to the unmitigated arrogance of just one man. This man has for decades been in collusion with certain other individuals to surreptitiously orchestrate this nation’s entry into the “New World Order”, the intended World Government totalitarian regime.

His assumed name: George Herbert Walker Bush, Sr.

Christopher Story informs us that Leon Panetta, current CIA Director, and Rahm Emmanuel, current White House Chief of Staff, had both, at different times, “run the trading programs” for G.H.W. Bush. Loyalty to Bush is now reigning with Panetta, who, as Emmanuel had earlier attempted, is now obstructing the disbursement of Settlement funds despite Obama’s having already signed off on the order one week ago.

The fact that Bush has had a nearly lifetime, shall we say, association, with the CIA since even the days of its antecedent, the OSS, is now being leveraged as a point of force by Bush to obstruct disbursement, and for a reason. According to Christopher Story, there is a line item in the Settlement documents that prescribes the final implementation of a plan, referred to as the “Dollar Refunding Program,” previously agreed upon by the G20 as the best recourse to ameliorate the credit crisis, that would bring financial transactions into conformity with what is known as the “Basel” rules. The Basel II Accords establish a capital floor underneath which regulators wouldn’t allow banks to go. Taxable trading in conformity with the new international rules will result in the necessary transparency of both source and use funds, a development that would challenge the black-ops fraudulent financing long nurtured by the CIA.

Christopher Story, Editor of “World Reports” Global Analysis (U.K.) has published an update on this ongoing alleged crisis: “Geithner read his rights and tagged“. According to Christopher Story, Chinese parties and the British Monarchical Power have had to enforce the World Court’s Writ of Execution for their Lien(s) on the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Reserve System, as Treasury Secretary Geithner and former Treasury Secretary Paulson allegedly continued to engage in stall tactics over the last few days, preventing the release of Settlement funds which Obama and other necessary signatories had already signed off on last week. Christopher Story claims that MI-6 (Britain’s Intelligence) forcibly removed Paulson from the U.S. and took him to Bermuda where he is being held under British law within British jurisdiction. Geithner has allegedly been arrested, his passport and driver’s license have been confiscated, and has been forced to wear monitoring equipment at all times. This is all possible because, alleges Christopher Story, behind the scenes the entire United States is currently “owned” by China and Great Britain.

According to Christopher Story, Editor of “World Reports” Global Analysis (U.K.), one year after “winning” the General Election and in response to dramatic and unprecedented world political intrigue , Obama signed “Release” documents on Settlement funds over China’s Lien on assets at the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve Bank on Thursday night (December 3rd) with which he was presented by high-ranking Chinese officials who were accompanied by an entourage of World Court officials, InterPol officers, and others, all of whom descended upon Washington D.C. without media fanfare last week to support China with its ultimatum, which, according to Christopher Story, occurred after a previous deadline of Veterans’ Day passed unheeded due to the obstructionism by, at minimum, G.H.W. Bush, the Clintons, and Rahm Emmanuel. The link to the source of this story is at the bottom of this post.

Obama averted global chaos by signing. However, there is now an even greater probability that the value of the dollar may tank within the next 30 to 45 days. Bob Chapman has further insightful information on the likelihood that this massive hyperinflation is imminent:

The first of the two links below is direct to the most recent post at World Reports, while the second is to the list of posts of the site. I recommend taking the time to view at least all the November posts listed.

Christopher Story presents also the claim that the shooting at Fort Hood was a cover for a secret government operation to confiscate riches in stolen gold and currency that apparently had been understood to be stored there under the “ownership” of George Herbert Walker Bush, who other sources say is actually a German-born Nazi infiltrator into our nation and whose real name may be George H. Scherf, Jr. However, Christopher Story seems to indicate that G.H.W. Bush’s name is actually Adolf Shickelbusch. It’s not clear whether Story’s use of that name is merely meant as a derogatory reference to G.H.W. Bush’s disposition, or whether Story in fact may have been fed disinformation, which would not be without precedent.

When reading, keep in mind that this fellow, Christopher Story, the Editor, does not cite his sources for his information, although in older posts he does provide his own contact information. However, the information he provides within his posts is very convincing, and the references he occasionally makes to information can be confirmed.

Here’s a column written by someone who was keeping score better than I did

Anticipating Tuesday’s special election

A non-Kennedy, non-Obama candidate may win the special election to replace the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, and become the first woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate from that ultra liberal state. If Clinton supporter and Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley wins that will make the ninth score that Clinton has settled. And it will have happened in the state that the Kennedy family once ruled.

Using the chess metaphor, it’s an excellent read for everyone who kept their wits about them last year.

The handy list of Clinton’s foes and their fates that I have in my Schadenfreude entry is also included.

Along with some pretty good analysis. Some of “Th Queen”’s victories in this chess game

Besides vanquishing the eight pawns on the chess board, here are few more victories for the Clintons

.•	The last minute save of the Turkish-Armenian accords opening the borders between these two longtime enemies.

•	Bill Clinton’s dramatic feel-good rescue of the two female reporters held hostage in North Korea

• Clinton being named No. 4 of the 25 “smartest people” of the decade by the political blog The Daily Beast: “If anyone has a more intellectually rigorous resume for the decade, we have yet to see it.” High praise.

• A flattering article about Clinton in the December issue of Vogue magazine, complete with photos by the legendary Annie Liebowitz.

•	Clinton’s approval rating in the high 60-percentile while Obama’s flirts under 50.

• The near “irrelevance” of those special envoys Mitchell and Holbrooke. They have been sidelined or mired in diplomatic quicksand.

Jr.jr is still in the position of hurting everyone most. We’re still deprived of the leadership of someone who knew economy, healthcare and world politics better than anyone. As the article points out

Furthermore, she has been paying off her debts, while Obama has been multiplying his (and the country’s) I.O.U.s.

But it’s nice to know that time perspective eventually lets the truth out

Update

It took a while, but we finally found the B0bots smell of Da Feet

It is US.

There was just a primary in Massachusetts. There were two progressives running for the democratic seat and a DLC mushy middle candidate who won (Martha Coakley).

Ten percent of registered voters turned out to vote for this seat. Ted Kennedy’s old seat.

Back when I was posting in what became B0botland, in the beginning of the campagin, I asked a question: Why are the people who brought us Bush pushing Obama? I’d like to say I knew the answer – because he was Jr.jr – but I was partly fooled myself. I thought they were picking the designated loser to the GOP-er. But at least I was asking the right question. As for their answers – I compiled them in one of my answers there:

MSM is after a good story (unseating of inevitable choice)
MSM is actually impressed with Obama
MSM wants to kiss ass of the next president
MSM – they’re human! maybe they want to stop being evil already
Both parties do it
They hate Clinton
Ted Kennedy!
Who cares what they’re doing?
It’s not true – what planet are you getting your news from?

So now that they got them fooled and the jig is up, watch them laughing.

Dana Millbank at WaPo is having fun

Obama had become to his youthful supporters a vessel for all of their liberal hopes. They saw him as a transformational figure who would end war, save the Earth from global warming, restore the economy — and still be home for dinner. They lashed out at anybody who dared to suggest that Obama was just another politician, subject to calculation, expediency and vanity like all the rest.

Yes, I know Dana – you did have a moment of lucidity and honesty and you have been booted from your KO sidekick position for it. But what were you doing up to that point?

And, as if he had nothing to do with it, he shares the blame between Obama himself for encouraging it and the progressives. And as proof of their naivete, he brings up Obama’s killing the healthcare reform in Illinois – which the media never brought up during the campaign (being too busy BEING his campaign)

For all of Obama’s soaring oratory about hope and change, it was plain even during the campaign that his record was that of an incrementalist. His signature legislation — health care in the Illinois Senate and ethics in the U.S. Senate — were evolutionary improvements, not revolutionary overhauls.

(which is an euphemism for: he killed the reform)

So he can end with

This is what happens when true believers mistake a mortal for a messiah.

Silly Bobots! I wonder who gave them that idea?

While over at the Top of the Ticket, they are twisting the knife really painfully. For everyone.

Liberals fault Obama for not being Bill Clinton

“After spending the entire administration trying not to be Bill Clinton, the president could now use a dose of Bill Clinton’s empathy,” she told DailyPolitics’ Walter Shapiro.

And remember when, summer of 2001 W was fed up with his polls and all the “hard work” and threatened to go to Crawford and never come back?

The Onion, in one of their moments of brilliance captures this for Jr.jr

Obama Tells Nation He’s Going Out For Cigarettes

‘I’ll Be Right Back’ Claims Commander In Chief

Best part:

Michelle Obama said. “I was pretending to be asleep, so I don’t think he knew I was watching, but at one point, poor Barack, he just started whimpering.”While the first lady remained confident of her husband’s return, citing Obama’s tendency to take long walks, Vice President Biden said he saw something in Obama’s eyes that told him otherwise.

“He’s gone,” Biden said. “He’s gone, and he ain’t never coming back.”

So: are B0bots silly? Without a doubt. As naive as they are fanatics, hateful and thoughtless. Do they deserve to be laughed at? Richly.

But look who’s doing the laughing. The guys who asked themselves this question:

It was a remarkable event for two reasons:

1. Costello (who did a fundraiser for Hillary) was obviously an admirer so, there was obviously no intention to obfuscate – and that’s a first for me in an interview with Bill Clinton. I could just relax and enjoy – which happened before…never.

2.The theme of the show is music, so all the questions and answers were through this prism.

Among the memorable things Bill said:

I had more scholarships for music than academics in high school.

I don’t think I could have became president if not for the music – the channeling of emotional energy, the becoming accustomed with praises and loss.

Music helped my perspective as president- because any good musician has to see beyond the notes on the paper. How loud or soft, how fast or slow, whether you play them in your own way or the way they were written before.

Chelsea told him he was an ignorant about rap and hip hop and for his birthday gave him a whole collection and said there would be a test. Not sure if he passed, but he got it. He would still prefer to listen to jazz, but I got what they are trying to do.

In the global initiative he tries to get people to work together – the way they play in a band. One doesn’t have to have a solo number to contribute to the sound.

In the White House he was listening to his favorite music for hours as he was working. Hillary had made him a music room on the third floor where he was playing his music. never let the care of his instruments to anyone else – it’s part of playing them.

They were dancing very often in the White House. After all, they wee under constant attack, so they at last had to have fun…

A rerun is not scheduled, but very likely will happen eventually – watch for it

From National Review Online, April 21, 2008

“Clinton finds her people in Pennsylvania.”

“Bethlehem, Pennsylvania — The next day, Sunday afternoon, Clinton is on the other side of the state in Bethlehem. The name conjures up images of shuttered steel mills and rust-belt decay, but Bethlehem is a beautiful little city — just a couple of years ago, it was included in Money magazine’s list of the 100 best places to live in America. (It was number 88.) The city has a lovely, historic main street that is quite alive — check out the Moravian Book Shop and a zillion coffee shops — without empty store fronts.

Clinton’s rally is in the gymnasium at Liberty High School. Her team is not exactly expecting a full house. On the left side of the gym, as one faces the stage, there are 25 rows of seats, from floor to ceiling. The Clinton team has put up a big blue curtain and an American flag blocking access beyond the first seven rows; all the seats above that remain empty.

But people pack into the room, after waiting hours to get through Secret Service security points. The gym floor is jammed.

“As I look out on the crowd, I’m not sensing any bitterness,” Bethlehem mayor John Callahan tells the audience. “I’m not sensing any pessimism.”

He’s right. And while Clinton crowds don’t exactly go wild, this crowd is as loud and enthusiastic as they get. “Isn’t this exciting?” Clinton says when she takes the stage to huge applause. “We’re getting to the decision day.””

“As far as voting for Obama is concerned, the views of people here are just about the same as those in the Mon Valley. More than half of those I ask say they won’t vote for him under any circumstances. A few others say they’ll have to think hard about it. And a few say they’ll be (grudgingly) loyal Democrats.

A couple of hours later, people in Bethlehem get a surprise when Obama shows up, unannounced, on Main Street. Word has gotten out a few minutes early, and excited people on the street are calling their friends and telling them to hurry down, that Obama will be there soon. And sure enough, his bus pulls up, and Obama makes his way down the street, shaking hands and stopping briefly at Mama Nina’s Foccacheria, before heading to the Bethlehem Brew Works, a brew pub with a Steel City theme — the booths are made of bare piping and sheet steel — on the corner. He sips a beer — a regular guy — talks to a few people, and takes off.”

In most cases this would be a simple nod and congratulations to the couple. However in this case the engagement becomes complicated with the knowledge that Mezvinsky is the son of disgraced Senator Edward Mezvinsky, who pleaded guilty in 2002 to the swindling of more than $10 million in a Nigerian scam. His mother is Marjorie Margoiles-Mezvinsky, herself a former Senator, who was disposed of her seat in 1994 after supporting President Clinton’s first budget.

But what seemed to be the final straw for naysayers was the fact that Marc has been employed by Goldman Sachs (although he is now employed by G3 Capital.

Although the anger towards the corporation and it’s involvement in the recent economic crisis that hit not only the US but the rest of the world, is understandable, it became increasingly worrying as I participated in news blogs over the past few days how the venom was not just dripping but pouring down onto Marc, even though he personally had nothing to do with the crisis.

But spare a thought for Chelsea too. The past, albeit tainted by the many untruths from the Ken Starr Report, were to be visited on her, again for the only crime that, as some saw, her parents were in the wrong. The consensus by many seemed to be that the “apple never falls far from the tree”, but is this really true?

Taking the accusations towards Chelsea, many believe that this engagement is somehow a marrying up of the Democratic Party to Wall Street. The sad part of this is, by making such a comment people are forgetting the fact that Chelsea and Marc have known each other since they were in college and have known each other since 1997. To me that is some stretch of a conspiracy to say that this engagement is one of political gain. Given the stain that has befallen Goldman Sachs, and given the high profile her mother now has as Secretary of State, it barely seems a wise move that for political gain a marriage would be sought.

But this is not the only charge levelled. Some Republicans still believe the many accusations levelled at Chelsea’s father during the failed impeachment investigations conducted by Ken Starr. These include property scams, murder, embezzlement, and that’s without coming to the actual charge of “stain on a dress”. However is this fair? Chelsea was a child during this time and had to watch uncomfortably as many in the country bayed after her father for his blood and career. She also had to watch as her father’s indiscretions were aired out in a very public arena. Yet some want to say that she, as her future husband, come from a “family of crooks”.

There is of course evidence that Marc’s father is tainted criminally and although the majority of scandals levelled at the Clintons amounted to little more than rumors, it does leave them with a tainted past. But does this mean the sins of the father must become those of the children?

While debating this point on the Huffington Post, I asked a rhetorical question. Would one say this about say, the offspring of Charles Manson? The reason I used this scenario is because of the emergence of a story in recent weeks that a man found out he was the son of Charles Manson. Matthew Roberts who was born after his mother’s alleged rape by the cult leader, recently tracked down his father and has exchanged a number of letters with him. But the question has to be asked, if his father is Charles Manson, does this mean the sins of the father should befall the son?

Of course it’s not the case, and as some rather impolitely pointed out this is hyperbole, but the same has to be said about accusations made towards Chelsea. Yes she comes from a rich family and yes she has had privileges that many do not get, but this does not make her bad person. And neither can Marc be blamed for the actions his father so selfishly took.

So why the onslaught? Why the rage, the cynicism and accusations? Why? Maybe because for some, they can not see beyond a name or the merits of people as individuals no matter where they come from. Their minds are already made up about people.

Congratulations Chelsea and Marc, may your years be happy and plenty.

I always thought that it would be during the following disastrous presidency that the mea culpas for the was they treated Clinton would come. First from the progressives, then maybe the others. I was wrong. They continued to blame him – this time for Gore and Kerry’s “losses”

And now, with a God in the White House I was expecting a continuous stream of: see, he can do what Clinton couldn’t” and pretty much got it.

Facts however are stubborn things and I can already see some chinks in that strategy.

The Clinton hater extraordinaire, M0Do sent shockwaves through the Village when she ended her usual Clinton hating column with a virtual “But Obama is even worse”

Bill Clinton may not have cared any more about contributors than Obama does, but he was such a talented politician that he made them feel as though they were in “a warm bath,” as one put it.

Obama is more like a cold shower.

And, from Hillary is 44 an extraordinary video

where Laurence O’Donnell – now part of Obama’s network actually remembers 1994 – when a “vote to debate” was not deemed necessary as the bill (Clinton’s) went to the senate almost by unanimous consent. Listen from the 1:08 mark for some startling revelations bout Ted Kennedy’s role and at the 3:20 mark

“It was inconceivable – for both parties not to allow one of the president major legislation to come to a vote – and this is a much weaker president – remember – Clinton got elected with 43% of the vote and there were 43 Republicans in the senate, only 57 Democrats….so this issue of needing 60 to go in the debate is the most stunning demonstration of weakness”

When asked to point the finger as to why, O’Donnel blames…the bill “this bill, this idea is so unpopular in the US”. And then points to the 1994 failure and the determination of Obama to do the opposite of what Clinton did – take a bow from behind the curtain, Tom Daschle.t

Except of course for the part where they asked Bill Clinton to talk to the Senate

It’s not that the media stopped attacking the Clintons – they’ll never forgive them for trespassing Versailles. But even their attacks have instant blowback.

A laundry list of “conflicts of interest” between the Clintons from WaPo only manages to highlight the many accomplishments of each of them.

So, ironically, it wasn’t Bush’s incompetence that would showcase Clinton’s brilliance. It will be Obama’s. Whether they allow it or not.

After dreaming up the super charisma/Messiah/bestest speaker ever, the fans can’t explain the hangover they are feeling.

MoDo has it so bad that at the end of a a full column filled with all the usual spews at Clinton, she ends up comparing Obama unfavorably to her Nemesis

Bill Clinton may not have cared any more about contributors than Obama does, but he was such a talented politician that he made them feel as though they were in “a warm bath,” as one put it.

Obama is more like a cold shower.

I thought being declared worse than Palin was the bottom, but poor Darcy is in real doodoo this time…There’s no worse insult in M0Do’s universe than that.

But will she hate him obsessively, for centuries too? Stay tuned.

Sullivan is still on koolaid, furiously mixing metaphors

In all this, Obama reminds me of George H W Bush in government, and of Ronald Reagan in campaigning. It’s a dream combo in many ways.

But Politico dedicated it’s Arena” to the search for the missing charisma

Obama’s charisma: Where did he leave it?

And there are a few still fans, a few who were always opponents and the lucid ones such as Mary Frances Berry

thoughtful people are contrasting his words with what they know. He now has a history of uneven policy success- greedy financiers engorged with the taxpayers money, a lingering recession, a health reform bill that will become law but leave many of his supporters feeling unfulfilled, more war in Afghanistan, peace more elusive in the Middle East, and the Iran nuclear problem unresolved

or Drew Westen who wonders

Does he believe that women and couples should make their own decisions about when to start their own families? All of his actions say no. Does he believe that gay people are full American citizens, or are they 3/5 of a man? His actions say the latter. Does he believe that all Americans should have more choices in their health care? No, he isn’t expanding any choices for the majority

and for that reason, former supporters

Many of the Democrats and Independents I know who voted for him now say they turn off the television when they see him on because they’re tired of the pretty words without any evidence of genuine passion or commitment behind them a week later

And as the koolaid wears off, more Jr.jr signs burst all over. As Don Siegelman, victim of Rove and now Obama observes

“There’s really been no substantial change in the heart of the Department of Justice from the Bush-Rove Department of Justice,”

Indeed. The guy who sold his senate seat and cavorted with Rezko, believes Rove proved corruption when framing Siegelman.

I think we all remember the 2008 Democratic primaries, that exciting and epic battle. In many ways the campaign caused more excitement than the general election, whose result was never really in doubt (especially after the financial crisis).

Both candidates drew upon distinctly different coalitions. In an influential article, Ronald Brownstein analyzes the difference this way:

Since the 1960s, Democratic nominating contests regularly have come down to a struggle between a candidate who draws support primarily from upscale, economically comfortable voters liberal on social and foreign policy issues, and a rival who relies mostly on downscale, financially strained voters drawn to populist economics and somewhat more conservative views on cultural and national security issues.

President Barack Obama assembled a coalition from the former, these “wine-track” Democrats. When most Americans think of liberals, they think of wine-track Democrats. Mr. Obama, then, was the liberal candidate; Mrs. Clinton the “beer-track,” working-class representative.

So candidate won the most liberal place in America?

In fact, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the state of Massachusetts (you may have realized this by reading the title of this post). The result wasn’t even close; Mrs. Clinton’s margin was 15.37%.

Modified NYT Image

These results are most strange. Barack Obama supposedly built a coalition upon liberal Democrats – yet he lost Massachusetts, the very image of liberalism. He then proceeded to win the nomination.

Several elements explain this result. Firstly, the state Massachusetts does not contain as many wine-track Democrats as most Americans tend to think. Rather, it includes a number of working-class, beer-track Democrats. These voters support Democrats based upon economic issues (which is not to say they are socially conservative). The state holds a strong union presence along with a high percentage of Catholics, numbering almost half the population. While in many places Catholics no longer vote Democratic, in Massachusetts they still are loyal to the party. According to exit polls, Catholics (45% of voters) went for Clinton by a 2-1 margin, while union households (27% of voters) supported Clinton 60-35.

Nevertheless, Clinton’s overwhelming victory remains surprising. Taking working-class support for Clinton into account, one still would expect Obama to do relatively well.

Remember, however, that this is Hillary Clinton we are talking about. Hillary Clinton, the champion of women’s rights. Hillary Clinton, the powerful and polarizing First Lady conservatives absolutely hated. Though the memory has dimmed, Hillary Clinton once stood at the forefront of “wine-track” liberalism. In February 5th, 2008 many liberal Democrats still remembered Hillary the feminist. Only later did Hillary the working-class fighter emerge.

Moreover, at that time Barack Obama continued to be a relative unknown, a bolt of lightning who had come out of nowhere. Hillary Clinton, therefore, made substantial inroads into Obama’s coalition, just as Obama took away a central pillar of working-class Democrats (blacks). Exit polls indicated that 62% of women supported Clinton (36% supported Obama); progressive white women probably went for her even more strongly. Throughout the primaries, Jews and gays (both deeply liberal groups) tended to support Clinton.

I am not terribly satisfied with this analysis; it does not seem to fully explain how the most liberal state in the union supported the more conservative candidate. The result perplexes me even today.

Nor did Massachusetts constitute an anomaly; Clinton did well in other liberal areas. She and Obama, for instance essentially tied the San Francisco Bay Area, as the map below indicates.

Modified NYT Image

Reasonable explanations behind this result also exist. Working-class Latinos gave Clinton strong support; thus her large margins in heavily Latino San Jose and Fresno. Moreover, upper-class Asians – a major Bay Area constituency – supported her 3-1.

Yet the fact remains that, out of the two most liberal regions in the nation, Hillary Clinton won a landslide in one and tied another (if one adds together the Bay Area’s nine metropolitan counties, Obama actually wins by 1.2%). All this against an opponent whose base lay amongst liberal Democrats. It is all very puzzling.

You’d think that once the primaries disposed off, Obama & comp would stop with the blame Clinton already.

But not when they are in defensive mode. Faced with accusations that they provide perks for donors, their first defense is

Democratic and White House officials shrugged off the documents as part of normal “donor maintenance” (oh, what a concept!) that does not provide contributors with any quid pro quo. And they insisted that current donors are getting fewer perks than they did during Bill Clinton’s term, when nights in the Lincoln Bedroom became controversial.

Which is a great defense considering that once the big clamor to get the list of guests who slept in the Lincoln bedroom, no connection with actual donors was found – so the story eventually died of lack of air – not that anyone retracted or apologized. In fact, it was W who lavished influence on his donors – even if the media duly covered it up.

Which makes this other story a study in hypocrisy

When does a President stop blaming his predecessor and start taking responsibility for his own actions? To be fair, that has been an eternal question in the American context, but it does seem as though Barack Obama has a crutch that he refuses to put aside. Economy? Blame Bush! Media? Blame Bush! Afghanistan?

I have to laugh – as throughout the first term, W never ceased blaming “his predecessor”. They even tried to move the date the recession started from March 2001 to March 2000 for this purpose. So, whiny as it makes Obama look, it’s a bit karmic too. Until of course, he joins the “blame Clinton” chorus.

It’s the actual title of an article in the Daily Beast and the subtitle is

Barack Obama wasn’t ready to be president, and he better figure out what he’s doing before it’s too late.

It even comes complete with the 3 AM ad

I don’t necessarily agree with all the reasons in the article – it seems to come from a trigger happy, war loving right side.

But the realization is there on the other side of the aisle too, even before Wanda Sykes’ Clinton panties

And let’s not forget this one about the Queen in chess now with B0bots frustration over Coakley

What can I say? The voters knew it too – a majority of them.

But big pharma and insurers already auditioned Obama through the wreckage he did in his state of healthcare reform

By the time the legislation passed the Senate, in May 2004, Obama had written three successful amendments, at least one of which made key changes favorable to insurers.

Most significant, universal healthcare became merely a policy goal instead of state policy

so they overturned our will (with the assistance of their DNC patsies)

I wonder if Robert Reich thought about this one when he cautioned

Private insurers are exempt from competition. As a result, they are becoming ever more powerful. And it’s not just their economic power that’s worrying. It’s also their political power, as we’ve learned over the last ten months. Economic and political power is a potent combination. Without some mechanism forcing private insurers to compete, we’re going to end up with a national health care system that’s controlled by a handful of very large corporations accountable neither to American voters nor to the market.

Probably not, as he only learned “the past 10 months”

To be fair, it wasn’t just them. It was Wall street s well (for all the misstatements and anti-Clinton obsession, the main point is right)

It’s also chronicled here

That Barack Obama was in bed with Bob Rubin and Goldman Sachs as long ago as April, 2006, is shown by the Hamilton Project and Obama’s speech there

and here

I was not alone in seeing Obama as enjoying more than an outside chance at the White House in the near future. Other Left observers knew about Obama’s longstanding outsized ambition and his related “deeply conservative” [4] ideological orientation and power-accommodating nature.[5] We were aware of his early (late 2003-2004) and close vetting by the national political and financial class[6] and of who really selects viable presidential candidates and winners – the corporate and imperial establishment.[7] And we knew also that, as the brilliant left commentator and author-filmmaker John Pilger noted last June, Obama’s racial identity could be a “very seductive tool of propaganda” working on behalf of the ruling class.

And now that we’ve been overruled by big money, it can be told (Daily Beast again)

Hillary Clinton was right back in 2008 when she argued that the White House was no place for “on-the-job training.” At the time, Clinton’s stinging attacks on Obama’s relative inexperience infuriated the insurgent candidate’s supporters

I remember. They said:

Update

On a more cheerful note and in a much less hyped ceremony, Hillary receives the Eleanor Roosevelt Lifetime Achievement award for Human Rights (h/t Puma Pac)

…

Update 2

Even Peggy Nooner gets into the Clinton nostalgia

I remember when everyone was turning against Bill Clinton after the financial scandals and the smallness of his first term. I thought for a while that Bob Dole would beat him. What I didn’t take into account was a small thing that wasn’t small. When people slammed Clinton in interviews they were often smiling as they spoke. “The rogue.” “Ol’ Bubba.” Those smiles said something. They liked him. When they like you, they forgive you a lot. Mr. Obama needs to make them smile. He doesn’t. He leaves them cool as he is.

Which is no less striking than MoDo’s

Bill Clinton may not have cared any more about contributors than Obama does, but he was such a talented politician that he made them feel as though they were in “a warm bath,” as one put it.

Obama is more like a cold shower.

Reminds me of Stuart Smaley:

“and people liked him, damn it!”

So was he joking according to Jake Taper as they were both signing the book with the previous recipi

So was he joking according to Jake Taper as they were both signing the book with the previous recipients – aparently Michelle got the prize too.

As for Jr.jr, he shows again how his sense of humor is like Jr

She may have held her sarcasm, but the Norwegian press certainly declared them arrogant for their general behavior including snubbing the king.

The king must master a special way of sarcasm, because On facebook Taper writes

at photo op, Norwegian royals express surprise at press scrum. Queen Sonia: “Are you used to this?” POTUS: “Unfortunately. “

Obviously, went over Obama’s head. In the Guardian version of the story

44% of Norwegians believe it was rude of Obama to cancel his scheduled lunch with King Harald, with only 34% saying they believe it was acceptable.

Which proves Norwegians are way more tolerant than Americans. According to a CNN poll, 80% think he doesn’t deserve the prize. Of course, this being CNN, one has to go to the PDF to get that number. They fudge answers to different questions in one sentence to avoid saying 80%

Nineteen percent of people questioned in the poll released Wednesday afternoon say Obama currently deserves the prize, with another 35 percent saying that it’s likely he will eventually accomplish enough in office to deserve the award

The Daily Beast coverage, not unlike Wanda Sykes contains a Clinton comparison

Obama is the second sitting American president to visit Norway. Ten years ago, President Clinton traveled to the country at the invitation of King Harald. “When Clinton was here he was walking into cafes in downtown Oslo, shaking hands with Norwegians on the street,” said Simonsen. “It doesn’t seem as if we are going to experience something similar with President Obama.”

To which a B0bot immediately replies, Giuliani style

Ten years ago, there was no 9/11, no global war on terror – as such Clinton could move about freely – walk the streets of Oslo and do what not. Today, the situation is different as the security imperatives of being a US president are vast…”

Niceties and protocol aside, the Guardian reports that

Peace activists opposed to the Afghanistan war are planning a 5,000-strong protest in Oslo.

Which should be the center of the event considering Obama already has more troops deployed than Bush ever did

Obama has now escalated deployments in the Af-Pak region to 98,000 US troops. So in Af-Pak and Iraq, he will now have a total of 222,000 US troops deployed, 36,000 more than Bush ever had – 186,000 was Bush’s highest total.

Those numbers do not include the private contractors

The Pentagon released a report showing that Obama already had a total of 242,657 private contractors in action, as of June 30th.

In other Jr-jr.jr news, Bush is catching up in popularity to Obama

Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama’s declining support is that just 50% of voters now say they prefer having him as President to George W. Bush, with 44% saying they’d rather have his predecessor.

Either that, or Obama is catching to W’s “legacy”

So, once again, who is entitled to sarcasm again? Not Michelle.
