Today I read a story about a wormhole which appeared briefly over the skies of Norway. There is much debate whether it was a hoax or a Russian missile or visitors from another planet. Until little green men walk into the United Nations I don’t think we will ever be 100% sure that aliens exist or for that matter, don’t exist. I think that anyone who believes that we are all alone in this massive universe is delusional.

The universe is that big we will most likely never know, well not in our lifetime anyway. Scientist say that the ability for aliens to visit us from outside of our own solar system is impossible due to the vast distances needed to be travelled. Let’s put it into perspective. To travel from one side of our galaxy, The Milky Way, to the other side using current conventional spacecraft would take approx 30,000 years. And that is just our galaxy. The current spaceshuttle’s maximum speed once in orbit is 11,000 km/h. Using known resources this speed may be able to increase in the years to come but not by much. So using this theory, scientist say that travelling to Earth from outside of our galaxy (or even within it) is impossible by our little green friends. But who is to say that on far away planets they don’t have an energy source so much more capable than our own to be able to reach the incredible speeds required to come for a cup of tea?

I digress from what I want to theorise about.

Let me throw out another alternative which I have been thinking about for many years now. I’m not saying this is fact or actual but I definitely think it is possible. Could the UFO sightings be not our neighbours coming over for a game of intergalactic poker but rather…..us? Not the ‘us’ of this time and date but ‘us’ from the future? Is it possible that the human race in the future has discovered the art of time travel? Who’s to say that ‘us’ are not walking around our cities and towns today and living amongst us. Now before you laugh and say that is absurd, have a long hard think about it. How do we know that it won’t happen 1,000 years from now? Think about it. In the mid 1700’s if you told a person that they would be able to fly over oceans in a matter of hours you would have been drawn and quartered. In the early 1900’s if you told people that they could watch television and surf the net you would have been institutionalised. So how can we say that something which is currently impossible is not actually possible in the future? We can’t.

Ok, so in my theory it is actually ‘us’ coming back in time to visit us. That doesn’t explain the lights in the sky. In the 1985 movie, Back to the Future, the time machine is built within a DeLorean motor car which is modified in the future to fly. Perhaps the time machines of the future are built inside flying vehicles. Who knows? We might never know but it is a possibility. So these time machines arrive in our time but because they look so different to what we have now, they need to be camouflaged. So as Gene Roddenberry envisioned in the Star Trek series, perhaps the future ‘us’ has also invented the cloaking device!

What do you think? Are UFO’s real? Is there life out there? Do you think it is possible that the future ‘us’ will invent time travel? Or do you think that I am completely bonkers and that there is nothing out there and that all UFO sightings are coincidences and can be easily explained?

My next BLOG will be the other theory I have about UFO’s. Stay tuned. It is pretty wild.

Breaking Search Engine Optimization (SEO) rules and regulations is very common on the World Wide Web

Breaking Search Engine Optimization (SEO) rules and regulations is very common on the World Wide Web. Every SEO professional should be aware of Search Engine Optimization Spam. This type of spam is very similar to telemarketers who do not take no for an answer. SEO spam, it fills up search engine results pages instead. Being caught and labeled as a possible spammer can cause your page rankings to be penalized and more than likely removed from search engines all together.

Search Engine Optimization Spam is defined as the manipulation of a web page to give it an artificial boost in the search engine rankings. It is also known as spamdexing – spamming indexes. Not all spam is easy to detect, but you should avoid doing anyway. The best way to prevent Search Engine Optimization Spam is by not making your company’s website appear to be something that it really is not. This is often ambiguous and will lower your ranking.

Charlotte Web Design and Internet Marketing Company has composed a list of spamming techniques commonly used:

Cloaking – providing one set of information to known search engine spiders while displaying a totally different set of information viewed by visitors.
Link Farms – a website set up with the sole purpose of increasing the link popularity of other sites by increasing the number of incoming links to those sites.
Keyword Stuffing – repeatedly placing keywords on a website.
Hidden Tags – improperly using tags used by search browsers.
Leader Pages – creating pages that contain series of documents designed to meet requirements of different search engine algorithms.

~Today, Google announced that it is making changes to it’s “first click free” program, part of Google News and Google web search, which enables participating news publishers to give users a “taste” of news, but then push them to a subscription page after viewing five articles on the external site. This news seems to follow Rupert Murdoch’s announcement that he may begin pulling his news website from Google’s index because they have been including his news in results without asking.

First click free, which has been in existence on Google News for a while, enables users to view entire articles from pay news sites without having to subscribe to the site. Apparently, this feature is to stop users from being fooled into visiting a site that appears to contain news or other information, but actually only presents them with a registration form – a process labeled as “cloaking“.

The move also allows publishers to give users a “taste” of the full paid news site before presenting them with a subscription page, which would put users off if it was presented directly upon visiting the site. Through the updated first click free program, users will be able to view up to five articles on a pay site per day, then will be presented with a subscription/pay page to continue viewing news or other information. This will apply to pages viewed through Google News and through the regular Google Web Search.

Content – Content – and more Content

Content Marketing is THE new way of Marketing.

Buyers/information seekers can find everything they need to make informed decisions on the Internet.

Question – Where do most people start their search?
Answer – The top search engines.

You need to get your compelling, interesting and informational content right there.
You need to make the change from a “Marketer’s Mindset” to a “Publishers Mindset”. Buyers want to pick the brains of an “authority” or recognized “expert” within your particular niche.

You need to provide genuine information, not a cloaked sales pitch, cloaking in my rant is intended to fool human editors, rather than computer search engine spiders.

How do you achieve “rockstar status”?
By producing great content consistently, and having a widespread distribution strategy.
In time, generate strong, lasting, brand relationships, and be recognized as a “thought leader” in your industry.

This content must be promoted in a variety of ways to suit the tastes of the consumer.

Text, audio and video must all be involved!
Everybody’s aware of Blog Marketing, Video Marketing and Social Marketing – let’s put it all under the umbrella of “Content Marketing” to appreciate the variety of content that you can create, and the variety of ways that you can broadcast it.

Find out what works for you and your business, and then do more of it.
Solve somebody’s problem with your content (including some info about you and your company), and you’ll likely have a new customer and a friend for life…..

This is Content Marketing in action.
Get content out there that gives your potential customers the information that they need to fulfill their goals, whether Personal or Business. Marketers must take advantage of technological changes and improvements to leverage their Marketing Strategies and Tactics.

I may sometimes find myself saying “don’t feed your ‘pearls’ to the pigs” but when it comes to the internet SHARE the ‘pearls’ in this case CONTENT!

Scientology has reminded me of a lot of things, and all I ever read was Dianetics. It’s not because I’m a Scientologist, it’s by observing the many groups surrounding this semi-mysterious, controversial group. As someone who tries to study every religion, I find myself on a middle road in terms of opinion. People are entitled to believe what they want, but there ought to be limits to actions perpetuated in the name of religion. History should have taught us this.

Like almost every other religion, Scientology has gone under a lot of scrutiny. I think it is justified and logical, as part of the human reasoning process, we should question the validity of everything that comes our way. From its inception, it was not well-received by governments because of its activity. Most famously, Scientology was convicted of making the largest government infiltration in American History. It should be also noted, that Paulette Cooper and the Mayor of Clearwater were “fair gamed” before David Miscavige came along. The publication of a book about this was banned because of Scientology lawyers. Lisa McPherson changed a lot of things, and now reading Marc Headley’s new book, I realize her passing made a lot of lives miserable. It wasn’t just her family like I thought, everyone but the person responsible got punished, and this makes my flesh crawl. It’s wrong in so many ways, I have a hard time coming up with words to describe it. Lisa suffered, her family did, and so did Scientologists. It’s odd this woman, who cannot speak, still resonates with purpose.

Fast forward past the tax exempt status to January of 2008. Then Anonymous arrived, like a Calvary out of the dark midst of the internet. They caught someone smacking a cat against the wall and made sure that person was punished for this heinous act. Also, our awesome Canadian friends to the north from Anonymous caught a pedophile by using their brains and computers alone. They went out to protest this semi-mysterious group, and all of a sudden the flood gates opened. Information from left and right, and I had to buy Dianetics. I had to know what I was talking about, the fundamentals. It was boring to me, but someone else could find it interesting. Anyway, I realize now that it’s a heck of a lot more complicated than that.

The social structure within is absolutely filled with acronyms. I’m studying medical terminology, and from this perspective one rivals the others in groups of letters, I swear. The corporate structure of shell groups is not so amazing when you find out how it’s done. RadioPaul1 of youtube has done a number of videos on this very subject, of closed down orgs, mailbox organizations, and orgs in strange places. At the cable store in Hudson Valley, NY there’s a Scientology sign inside a cable payment center. Scientology reminded me fact can be stranger than fiction. There was a quote about the tone scale:

In any event, any person from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale should not have, in any thinking society, any civil rights of any kind, because by abusing those rights he brings into being arduous and strenuous laws which are oppressive to those who need no such restraints.

The “Tone Scale” is Scientology’s measure of mental and spiritual health; p. 145

No Scientologist has ever really been able to adequately explain this quote to me. I would appreciate it if anyone could give it a shot.

My interpretation would be this: There are a lot of people who are 2.2 on the tone scale, more than most people know. This would also adjust with changes times, like “The Great Depression”. You think people weren’t depressed? Because of these natural fluctuations, I would be innocently assuming that LRH didn’t mean it literally, but then I read the following:

Unfortunately, it is all too often true that suppressors to a creative action must be removed before construction and creation takes place. Any person very high on the Tone Scale may level destruction toward a suppressor.

p. 159

There are only two answers for the handling of people from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale, neither one of which has anything to do with reasoning with them or listening to their justification of their acts. The first is to raise them on the Tone Scale by un-enturbulating some of their theta by any one of the three valid processes. The other is to dispose of them quietly and without sorrow.

p. 170

The sudden and abrupt deletion of all individuals occupying the lower bands of the Tone Scale from the social order would result in an almost instant rise in the cultural tone and would interrupt the dwindling spiral into which any society may have entered.

p. 170

A Venezuelan dictator once decided to stop leprosy. He saw that most lepers in his country were also beggars. By the simple expedient of collecting and destroying all the beggars in Venezuela an end was put to leprosy in that country.

p. 171

Scientology is not fluff, butterflies, daydreams, or making shapes out of clouds. It’s not tea-leaf reading crapola, Scientologists fiercely defend this mode of thought, philosophy, religion. They are dedicated, hard-working, cut-throat at times, creative, debaters, and I also found they can be great people.

Paul Haggis recently gave up the Church of Scientology after 35 years because of the church’s support of Prop 8. Sherry Katz and Mary-Jo Leavitt both wrote KRs (Knowledge Reports) that brought for the reality of what it is like to work under David Miscavige-Era Scientology. It is not an “Ice Cream Social” or anything of the sort. When Mr. Rathbun, along with other people such as Amy Scobee, Sinar Parman, Jackie Wolff, Gary Morehead, Mike Rinder came out with shocking stories also, of what it is like to serve someone who seems to, by many accounts, has an issue with megalomania. Beating, unusual punishment, imprisonment is no laughing matter and is completely unacceptable. You can’t call something a religion to abuse people, religion doesn’t work that way. These folks had some great words when faced with irrelevant and silly pieces of information the church used to make itself look like the victim.

Tommy Davis, the newest spokesthing, sent a response to the Times, which is quite telling. See it here: http://www.tampabay.com/news/scientology/article1012575.ece My favorite part is where Tommy said Rinder was resentful because he couldn’t roam with dogs in the big grass anymore or some crap like that. His response was: “I don’t want to run in toxic grass with rabid dogs”. I think that was well said.

Tommy Davis, the poor kid. He’s so bad at being the fall guy, it’s like watching a train wreck in slow-motion. He at first said: “I’m not familiar with that material”, to being offended about Xenu. He also lied about disconnection. A lady in Scientology had told a recently left OTVIII’s friends to take her off their Facebook. That’s disconnection, that’s cutting off communication. Another irregularity which I found to be sad and amusing at the same time: Sherry Katz is awaiting her SP Declare because it GOT CLOGGED IN THE INTERNETS. Meaning, her SP declare was emailed to people she didn’t even know. Disconnection is part of the SP Declare, which you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SP_Declare#Abuse_of_the_.22Suppressive_Person.22_label

More about the internets, in recent blogs written by Scientologists, I think they perceive Anonymous as a threat or a pack of bullies, which is quite far from the truth. In getting to know people from Anonymous, they come from almost every walk of life, in all different colors and sizes. They may make noise, not to be jerks, but to grab attention. When people like Uwe Stuckenbrock die in the RPF of multiple sclerosis, it’s not about fun and games. When we find a picture of a man who died in the Fort Harrison Hotel, his skin nearly boiled off his body, the public gets freaked out. When Tom Cruise went under a drastic personality change in 2004, the world noticed. I think Scientology’s first big mistake was trying to stop the flow of free information. One man had said; “The internet will be Scientology’s Waterloo”. A Dutch woman, Ms. Spaink, was taken to court for 10 years and eventually won her case to post information about Scientology on the internet. Trying to suppress information makes the public angry, suspicious, and can incite negativity. Other religions have no problem posting their information for free.

So, I think the main purposes behind Anonymous would be: stopping abuses, freedom of information, and at least lowering the cost of (or making it free) Scientology. That’s been my observation. Some people take issue with the doctrine itself, and what I would say to that is: all religious text is open to interpretation. However, because of Scientology closing itself off from the world for such a long time, both sides have an attitude of distrust.

Anonymous hasn’t assaulted a single Scientologist, but there are incidents of Scientolgists assaulting protesters. This is strange and unacceptable behavior as well. Don’t believe me? Please have a look at: Lady protesters from Copenhagen gets shoved http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPBpS-TEjug , a minor in London getting hit in the face by a handler http://www.youtube.com/user/trapsicle , the infamous starbucks guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4_b3z2E-0I , Tommy Gorman (Former Scientologist) got assaulted and charges were filed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kpvsB_At_I , news coverage of Nashville assault of college student http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvHpFtjNg_c , the infamous Anon Orange assault at Gold http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTR07SgrXfU , and there are many others. On the subject of youtube, here’s me: http://www.youtube.com/user/Shalindriaharam

To date, no one has shown me a video of Anonymous hurting anyone. They are not a terrorist group or a cult, it’s a loose collection of individuals who find the behavior of CO$ to be unacceptable. I concur, and the reason they wear masks is so that they are not “fair gamed” and have their medical privacy violated like The Pope http://www.angrygaypope.com . The cameras are used as evidence, CO$ likes to make false accusations.

All that considered, I’m on the fence in regards to Scientology. Dianetics wasn’t my cup of tea, but who am I to judge? I’d be a hypocrite, however making observations is fair. Scientology itself deeply needs reform. Mormonism is a modern-day example of religious reformation, but my favorite example was Martin Luther. He attempted to reform the Catholic church, that brave soul. They tried to kill him over it, but in the end good prevailed. We now have the denomination Lutheranism, which is somewhat like Catholicism, just a heck of a lot less dogmatic. Today Martin Luther’s observations about Catholicism ring true.

In summation, I would like to refer my favorite David Bowie song, Heroes. “We can be heroes, even just for one day”. Protesters, Anonymous, Freezoners, Ex Scientologists like Jason Beghe and Tory Christman, Independents, Critics like 13Heathens http://www.youtube.com/user/13Heathens, Writers like Marc Headley (I loved the book) and Paulette Cooper, Apostates like Tommy Gorman, these people are the heroes. The dethroning of Miscavige should be the primary objective, his behavior has gone too far. Someday (in a perfect world), I would like to see Scientologists sharing their beliefs in the same manner other religions do. People fear what they do not understand, this is a big barrier to overcome. However, it is possible.

http://example.com/page?query#state

http://example.com/page?query#[FRAGMENTTOKEN]state.

http://example.com/page?query#!state.

** Before too long we are going to see more of this type of “in your face” obvious. I have seen many weird clouds /sylphs etc ( and even a UFO “probe” about 200 ft above the field in front of my house) BUT not a HUGE mothership such as this !! Mind you the probe was pretty freaky and it WAS a UFO ( whether military or alien I dont exactly know) But thats for another post as my hubby was the one that was chased by it and saw it not even 20 ft above his head ~ that is before he started running as fast as he could!**

RUSSIAN NEWS SAYS ITS A RARE BUT NATURAL OCCURANCE ( yeah okay)

“Several fronts have been passing through Moscow recently,” a spokesperson said. “There was an intrusion of Arctic air, too. The sun was shining from the west — this was how the effect was produced. This is purely an optical effect, although it does look impressive.”

Environmentalists blamed the odd halo in the sky on air pollution from Moscow’s factories, but the weather service says that smog is not to blame. Windy conditions in the area would have prevented any effect from Russian industrial emissions.

Yakov Smirnoff could not be reached for comment, but he would likely have a humorous observation about how Russian cloud rings are different than American cloud rings. What a country!

**My note: if that is the case then what are all these other similar cloud formations then??? Check out pics here http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2008/12/punch-hole-clouds.html

Earthquake protection A new approach to dealing with earthquakes in highly populated areas of the wo

Earthquake protection

A new approach to dealing with earthquakes in highly populated areas of the world may be the key to saving thousands of lives every year.

Researchers at Liverpool University and the Fresnel Institute (CNRS) in Marseilles have developed a technology not unlike a cloaking device – think Star Trek – to protect buildings from the physical effects of seismic activity.

Earthquakes manifest in two parts – body waves, which propagate through the earth, and surface waves which pass across it. It’s the surface wave that wreaks havoc on populated areas and destroys buildings.

Research has shown that concentric rings of plastic built into the earth of a building’s foundations can actually divert surface waves and ‘cloak’ the building, protecting the entire structure from tremors, seismic waves and aftershocks.

The rings are made from a metamaterial – an engineered material displaying exceptional properties that are not observed in naturally occurring materials. They can be tuned to the frequency of an incoming seismic wave and for small frequency ranges there can be two rings working in sync, absorbing waves at those frequencies

By controlling elasticity and stiffness of the rings, surface waves can pass through the protective ‘cloak’ and are transformed into tiny pressure and density fluctuations, the wave path is altered so it arcs away from the protective cloak and the building is left untouched.

The technology is not yet foolproof however; waves that pass through the foundations of a protected building are not diminished as they exit, they travel on with the same intensity as before. So risk cannot be eliminated; it can only be transferred to other areas.

Sebastien Guenneau from Liverpool’s Department of Mathematics who developed the technology with Stefan Enoch and Mohamed Farhat from the Fresnel Institute says, “this work has enormous potential in offering protection for densely populated areas of the world at risk from earthquakes. The challenge now is to turn our theories into real applications that can save lives – small scale experiments are underway.”

——————————————————————————————-

3.1.4. Coisas que fere a sua classificação

1. Keyword stuffing
Google define o termo bastante claro.

4. Splogs

http://www.somesite.com/

http://somesite.com/

http://somesite.com/index.php

http://www.somesite.com.index.php?sessionid=4567

etc

As caraterística chave aqui é algum valor acrescentado.

There is a lot of information available on the web about this thing called black hat seo. What exact

There is a lot of information available on the web about this thing called black hat seo. What exactly is it?

do you really you want to learn it ? ..If you dont want to do it as a webmaster or site owner so you must at leat to learn it.. Basically it is the practice of hoodwinking the search engines into pushing your website higher in the rankings. How is this done you ask? There are many methods of accomplishing the end result (higher rankings), but it should be understood that you are potentially setting yourself up for the exact opposite (lower rankings and/or removal from the search engine index).

The history behind this really starts in the nineties when the search engine algorithms weren’t that “smart”. Like anything else, if there is a way to cheat the system, people will certainly find the way(s) to do so. And many webmasters were, especially in the world of “adult” websites.

It was pretty silly, you’d see websites with a given keyword or two or three repeated over and over again on a given page (sometimes hundreds of times) in order to make the engine believe that this page was really that important. You’d see blocks of text either at the top of the pages or the very bottom and usually the text would be the same color as the background of the page so that you couldn’t read the text unless you highlighted it. What’s funnier is that you can still find websites like this today. Funnier yet, some of these websites REMAIN EFFECTIVE in their tactics, no matter how obvious they are.

A partial listing of black hat tactics:

Keyword Stuffing

- Literally the practice of repeating a keyword or words over and over again on a given web page. Google’s algorithms work very hard at trying to find pages that read like normal text, not like a broken record. And they are getting better at it all the time. If they suspect you are just trying to “stuff” the content of your site with keywords, there is a good chance they’ll penalize you for it.

Cloaking

- Is a technique where a webmaster will have two versions of a given web page, one version that it shows the search engine spiders, and one version that it shows the regular web surfer. Highly frowned upon if the engines find out.

Invisible Text

- (mentioned above) Filling a web page with text that is the same color as the background. I love this one.

Doorway Page

- A highly optimized web page whose purpose is to direct traffic to other pages using either a redirect method or merely by being full of links that direct you to these other web pages.

Spam Page

- Basically a doorway page that is full of ads that a webmaster makes money off of if someone clicks on them. Very annoying pages.

Interlinking

- Setting up multiple websites about a given topic and having them all link to each other in order to increase their relevance and subsequently their rankings in the search engines.

Selling PageRank

- If you have a high PR website, you sell links from your site to another for cash. Helping their site rank higher in Google and in turn, making your wallet fatter.

Buying Expired Domains

- Buying expired websites that had some decent PageRank in order to try and keep the site’s inbound links.

These and many other tactics are the exploits of Black Hatters…

Personally, I have no problems with Black Hatters, if they can cheat the system and win, good for them. They also know they can just as easily lose the fight. It’s not the only form of gambling in this world.

His dreams, especially recently, seemed to follow a predictable pattern: a journey without a clear goal, but the desire to possess one. This time he was in the desert.

In contrast to a typical “desert” dream, it was night and it was very cold. The stillness of the air and the near absence of noise made him uncomfortable, but soon intrigued him. In a sense it was good for his mind, but he knew that the night would eventually end and he would be faced with the reality of the harsh sun. He relaxed knowing that the change was at least hours away.

As his feet stepped into the sand, he realized that he wasn’t sure why he was there or where he was going. As if having a direction didn’t matter, he continued walking. After about twenty minutes (or at least that’s how long it felt like since he didn’t have any way of knowing), he stopped. In the moonlight was a small lizard lying on a shiny rock, so shiny that it looked as if it had been placed there by someone, or something.

As he bent down to look at the lizard, the lizard’s body became slightly rigid. One pupil, nearly all black, oscillated from side to side as if looking for something, then centered on him like some sort of target. As the target was acquired, the lizard’s brow firmed and his head lowered.

The lizard’s skin was rough, but predictable in its patterns and form. Bluish-green, or was it reddish-blue? The moon, he thought, was deceiving him. Or was the lizard actually changing color! As he continued to stare at the lizard’s skin, his eyes were drawn towards one unique element: a small glass dome was somehow integrated into the lizard’s back.

The glass dome was black, but not completely opaque. Within the dome was a mechanism of some sort. A camera! As he moved closer to the lizard, he could hear a faint whirring of the lens regaining focus. He slowly moved around the lizard to see if the camera was capable of following him. A subsequent whirring (slightly different than the first) provided the affirmative.

He paused.

Within seconds the lizard’s eyes turned blood red and, for a brief moment, luminous. He gazed in disbelief as the lizard’s body slowly disappeared. The disappearing force resembled a wave, slowly “eroding” the lizard’s body into a different dimension. As the last remnants of the lizard’s body left the rock, he could now see his face in the rock’s reflection.

Evolution in reverse.

Steve Flanagan and cast debuted Thursday night June 25th on TLC and TLC-HD with Paint Misbehavin. Paint Misbehavin’ follows Steve Flanagan and his crew of merry “paintsters” as they set out to show the world a whole new way to look at paint. We guarantee you’ll never look at paint quite the same way again. These guys have paints that change from heat, UV and more. They specialize in chrome paint and are even delving into the world of cutting edge tattoo inks. Look for Steve Flanagan and crew to take the paint world to new levels and let’s hope TLC is along to catch it all.

The premiere episode featured Steve and cast as they set out to create the cop car of the future combining both the Heatwave Paint (temperature causes color to change) and radiant heaters in the doors to make the door switch from all black to black and white and reveal the cleverly designed HARDWAY PATROL LOGO. This Escalade is truly “cutting-edge” and could change the face of law enforcement with its total cloaking ability, able to switch from an unmarked surveillance unit to a completely marked black and white pursuit truck.

The initial episode of Paint Misbehavin also featured the guys building up a demonstration wall and painting it with the fireproof paint Inferno. We then see Steve Flanagan with flamethrower in hand giving the fireproof paint the ultimate test. As the team continues to assault the wall Steve takes a few minutes to go behind the wall and experience fire protection first hand, ultimately “standing behind” this incredible paint LITERALLY!

Rest assured this show is not all tattoos and flamethrowers we also see a great “heartfelt” moment as Steve and the guys hook up a very special kid named Robbie who suffers from Cerebral Palsy and was stuck in what was a less than appealing completely dilapidated chair. Steve promises Robbie a HOT brand new chair designed after his favorite movies including The Fast and The Furious. Steve and Sam set in to making a real hot chair for Robbie and the Paint Misbehavin crew plan to present it to Robbie just in time for his upcoming graduation. It’s great to see the joy that the simplest of tasks can provide to somebody’s life. This team spends a lot of time coming up with REALLY big stunts but this heart touching moment seemed just as “grand” especially to Robbie and his friends and family who all turned out to see Robbie get presented with his spectacular chair.

Mike Derfus came down from Sound Off Signal with a whole trunk full of goodies to equip the Escalade with everything it needs to transform into its black and white alter ego. On Thursdays episode of Paint Misbehavin on TLC we saw just what Mike and the guys were able to pull off, let’s just say it was a phenomenal job. The Escalade was definitely an intimidating beast when dressed out in black and white and the Sound Off Signal light bar, ghost lights and complete siren box, controller and mic added all the bells and whistles needed to really push this project “over the top”.
Mike and his crew came up with an ingenious way for Steve to be able to swivel the light bar on top of the vehicle so when it is in the off position is hardly even noticeable, and Jeff Mersey smoked out the lenses with some black and this thing was COMPLETELY hidden. When it came time for the unveil Steve hit the switch and the light bar swivels into position coming to life as the doors change and the Cloaking Cop Car becomes a reality. All this and more on TLC’s Paint Misbehavin. Now head on over to www.HardLifeStyle.com and check out the rest of these incredible shots.

After being featured countless times in movies and books, the concept of cloaking is one of the most

After being featured countless times in movies and books, the concept of cloaking is one of the most mainstream SciFi technologies around. Whether in the mind of a 10 year old child or an army general, it’s also an idea with a unique ability to capture the imagination.

From a scientific point of view, cloaking has been as elusive as it is captivating, yielding little in terms of credible paths of research. That was until the work of a group of physicists at Duke showed that a class of artificial matter called metamaterials are capable of bending waves around themselves. This could effectively render a metamaterial, and anything it covers, invisible.

Most matter behaves according to it’s chemical properties, determined by the atoms contained in its structure. This would determine what wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation would bounce off and which would absorb into the material, generating the image we see with out eyes.

What makes metamaterials different is that their properties are based not on their chemical properties, but instead their physical properties. Metamaterials are artificially formed from metal atoms by scientists, meaning those physical properties can be controlled.

The idea of metamaterials have ‘been around’ for quite sometime, being described in literature in the 1940’s, but only recently has the full range of potential been recognized. If one can produce a material with controlled characteristics, it could be engineered to guide waves around it. If the metamaterial was created to coax sound waves around it, it could make itself, and anything it coats, silent. The same could be true for electromagnetic waves, such as visible light or infrared.

Of course nothing is as easy or straightforward as it sounds. The metamaterial’s properties would only work for a particular wavelength, meaning it might effectively curve UV light, but not visible light. While rendering a tank invisible to blue light, but not other wavelengths, might sound ineffective the technology has much to offer while those issues are ironed out.

Currently, metamaterials are only able to ‘cloak’ waves larger than the visible spectrum, meaning much of the current work focuses on sound waves. The techniques have their limitations, but aren’t far from being able to protect a stealth bomber or submarine from sonar detection, by wrapping those waves around the vehicles’ surface.

A reverse of this technology’s abilities may not make the same headlines, but might actually offer more immediately meaningful contributions. Metamaterials can also focus sound waves instead of avoiding them, making the equivalent of a lens for sound waves. This could provide a powerful upgrade to ultrasound resolution, enabling wide-ranged improvements of medical technologies.

While you don’t yet have to worry about metamaterials being used to hide missiles in your backyard, the technology is powerful enough for strong interest, and funding, from the armed services. There is still more work to be done, but the hope is to provide soldiers with armor that leaves them invisible to enemy combatants. Of course, as the science for that develops, we can take heart that doctors will also be better able to detect tumors and save lives.

I’m was very pleased with ISDC 2009. It was well organized and there were a lot of very good talks by various presenters at the different tracks during the conference. The kids space station design contest (NSS-NASA-and I forget the 3rd organization) inspired a lot of grade school teams from around the world!

My presentation, “Stealth, Invisibility and Deep Space Radiation Shielding” was very well attended. There were more than 40 in the audience, and many, many questions. I’ve posted the presentation and video at iSETI LLC’s white papers.
