So heißt die aktuelle Ausstellung in der Kunsthalle Kiel, die mit ihren 72 Expoaten noch bis zum 10. Januar 2010 zu bewundern ist. Nachdem schon der SPIEGEL darüber schrieb, wollte ich auch dorthin. Also machte ich mich heute Morgen mit meinen besten Freundinnen erst auf den Weg, um ein herrliches Frühstück bei Pennekamp an der Förde zu genießen und dann gestärkt in die Ausstellung zu gehen.

Leider waren unsere Handtaschen zu groß um sie mit in die Ausstellung nehmen zu dürfen, ich habe also keine Fotos in der Kunsthalle gemacht, die Motivation die Kamera in der Hand durch die Kunsthalle zu schleppen war einfach zu gering.

Die Austellung selbst war sehr abwechslungsreich! Es gab den Hund als treuen Begleiter höherer Herrschaften, den Jagdhund, den Glashund, den Hundekopf auf einem Rehkörper, eine Meute ausgestopfter Kampfunde, eine nackte Dame in Hundeposen, einen nackten Russen an der Leine auf den Straßen Moskaus, Videos von leidenden Hunden und Welpen, halbnackte hübsche Mädchen mit Hunden auf dem Bett, Hundeporträts in Öl, als Foto, als Zeichnung, Hunde in Bronze und Hunde aus Acryl. Es gab Möpse, Schäferhunde, Dackel, Terrier, Windhunde, Pudel und Promenadenmischungen. Eigentlich gibt es dort kaum etwas, das es nicht gibt.

Auch das Gästebuch ist beachtenswert, von begeisterten Kommentaren bis zum übelsten Veriss ist alles dabei! Wir waren zufrieden mit den Hunden und haben uns auch noch die italienischen Futuristen, die noblen Gäste und die “Stammausstellung” angeschaut. Also los, auf in die Kunsthalle, das Wetter ist eh grau und ungemütlich!

The next fad dog will be the merle American cocker spaniel.

And you will get double merles that have all sorts of problems.

Merle coloration exists in no other breed of gun dog.

So I have no idea where this color came from.

That particular breeder understands the rule about breeding merles, but my guess is the average cocker puppy miller who founds a colony of these dogs won’t follow that rule. Breeding merle to merle will make more merles to be sold for higher prices.

Keep in mind that this breed of cocker has just now started to recover from decades of insane over-breeding. There aren’t many of them that work as useful gun dogs, and if you find a working cocker, it will most likely be of the English cocker breed.

Why merle to merle mating is cruelty.

The puppies went to the vet today.  They had their tails docked and dew claws removed.  They are really tired this afternoon.  I will get pics this week.

We only have two little Gana puppies left at our house.  The little black girl and the black and tan girl.  They are ready for their new homes.  We will have to give them extra love these next few days so they won’t be too lonely.  Give me a call if you are interested. 

Amanda just came and picked up her new baby.  She named her Ella.  She got one of the little black gals.  We are so excited about Ella’s new home.  Kathy is coming in a few hours to get Bella – the little blond girl.

My son, who likes to pretend he is a dog, and all of his friends - Bernie, Deuce, Fetch, Major, Snook, Clifford, Clifford II, and Charlie.  He doesn’t go anywhere without at least two of them.  He crawls around on the floor, pants, barks, and loves to fetch his ball   Ah, to be a 5-year-old!

Then there are all of the felt dogs that have been created and moved onto their new homes -

These Malamute bags are going to be given as awards at the large Portland, OR dog show in January.

I just finished these and they have been added to my Etsy shop.  A poodle, cocker spaniel, and great dane felted onto my handmade felt and fabric totes.

Luckily I like dogs

My latest commission was for a Christmas card. They wanted something different, but personal too. They love their dog, Sparky, and decided to feature him on the card! I also decided to take a few pictures in-progress to show you how I complete a drawing in colored pencils.

They provided me with a few different photos and this is the one I chose to work with:

They wanted me to spice it up and make it look “more Christmasy”. So I did a sketch for them that looked like this:

Which they loved. (Sparky really does like to open presents too!)  I figured we could put text on the inside that said, “No peeking” or something along those lines.

Here is the final sketch:

It’s more refined than the initial sketch I gave. That was just to give them an idea of what I was thinking. This final pencil drawing is fully shaded on illustration board and made to the correct size and proportion of the final piece.

Then, I put a thin layer of gesso right on top of the drawing. I usually spray fix the pencil, just so it doesn’t smudge with the weight of the brush. I use a cheap foam brush, so I don’t get any brush marks and it goes on nice and evenly.

As you can see, the drawing underneath the gesso is still visible. The gesso is thinned slightly with water and when it dries it’s slightly transparent. You don’t want to thin it too much because then it defeats the purpose of putting gesso down altogether. …but on the other hand, if you don’t use enough water, it becomes opaque and you lose the drawing you just did. This might take some experimenting to get the right mixture. I use gesso because I like to thin out the first few layers of colored pencils with turpentine to give it a more solid feel. A lot of times with colored pencils you can see the white of the paper through the wax. (sometimes, I use the color of the paper to enhance the colored pencils, such as in this piece) Using a solvent, such as turpentine, with eliminate the white show-through.

As shown in the photo above, the red bow has been thinned with turpentine, and I’ve just laid down the green on the present — see the white of the paper through it? That will be a smooth surface after painting it with a solvent.

This pic is a little smaller than the others, but you can see that I have my reference shot to the left and the present is just about complete. Sparky is sitting patiently waiting his turn to be colored!

Tiger is Wendy’s first dog!

Cross between a maltese and cocker spaniel. Only 8 months old and he’s huge! So adorable, so shy, and so manja!

Bug had her puppies last night.  She had 8 total which felt like 101 last night at 1:45.  They are all doing well with the exception of one that was having a little difficulty breathing yesterday.  The colors are as follows – red, buff, black and white, buff and white.  We will go to the vet soon for their talis and dew claws.

Our beloved chocolate cocker spaniel puppy, Lucy, turns 5 today!

Lucy gave us a scare over the weekend which led to a lot of spoiling and extra cuddling. She must have pulled a muscle or something on our mile walk on Saturday. When we got home Lucy seemed to have trouble walking and especially going up steps or jumping up on a bench or couch. She was doing a lot of groaning and her legs were shaking.

But, I’m happy to report she seems to be doing very well now and is happy as a clam! She still can’t quite run and leap like usual but she doesn’t appear to be in pain.

The West pets are new clients for me, and I have to say, they are truly fun to see on a daily basis.  Each and every one has their own great personality!

My client has asked me to update my blog to include her pets, as a way to stay aware of what’s going on while she’s overseas!  I think it’s a great idea, so here goes!  Molly had diarrhea in the dining room because she ate cat poop yesterday.  (Isn’t my job soooo glamorous?)  Other than that, all is well.  I put the envelope out for the lawn crew as you instructed, and both Angel and Molly are taking their medicine with no problems at all.  I hope you’re having a wonderful time!

Kelso got a haircut today! I attempted a pet-type cocker spaniel trim, but all I had to go on was a picture. I think I did pretty well considering. I used electric clippers to shape the face, head, neck, and down the back, His legs are scissored.

Gana’s puppies are doing great and they are ready for their new homes.  The little black  and black and tan girls are ready to find their new homes.

We are expecting bug’s litter this week or next week.  The expected date is the 21st of November.  She is looking more uncomfortable every day.  She looks like she is going to have 101 puppies.  If she does, we may be the next movie deal… 101 cocker spaniels.  I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I took some time to groom the puppies today.  The black and tan has been groomed from about a week and I decided to groom the rest.  They look so cute.  They are really growing and have lots of personality.  They were all easily groomed but the little black gal.  She was, as my daughter says, a wiggle worm.  I will take some new photos tomorrow.  I am off work!!

Last night, word on the street that Big Bang’s resident bad ass hot assassin got himself a dog.

And after some emergency digging. It was then confirmed that our very own TOP oppa~ indeed, got himself a dog to add to the growing YG Babies.

Not much info about this new addition to the YG Babies Family aside from the fact that he’s Mr. Choi Seung Hyun’s pup and he’s a Cocker Spaniel.

Gotta give props to my fave assassin for gettin’ such a cute pup despite the fact that I’m still shocked that he didn’t get a bulldog..cause for some reason I couldn’t picture him walking a Cocker spaniel around…

But I think I’ll get used to it….

And, now there’s 3 pups in the Big Bang house wonder how will it be if all 3 of them stay at the same time. LOL! Cause I know Boss, stays w/uncle HyunBae or mommy.

Now, I’m anticipating on what Uncle Dae & Ri would get…?!

I promised my husband I would wait.

I promised him I’d wait until we were moved into our new home and settled in.

His name is Moose.

He is an 8 week old cocker spaniel-poodle mix. His rescue explained that he’s not available to be adopted until beginning of December. Which is actually kinda perfect. They called it a puppy pre-caution. I call it fate!

Remember that promise to husband? Well… I figure by December we’ll be “moved in and settled” so I filled out an application with his rescue today. Keep your fingers crossed that his rescue thinks we’re a good pooch match for Moose.

How could you not fall in love with that face? I know I did.

We took the puppies for their well visit today.  Everything went well except for one puppy.  The little black and tan has an umbilical  hernia.  That is not the worst thing ever, but we had planned on keeping her for breeding.  Now our plans have changed.  I will be trying to find her a home with someone special to take care of her.  The vet says that they usually grow up on their own.  If it does not, they can fix the problem when she gets spayed.  So, no puppies for her.  If you are interested in her, please contact me.  I would love to find her the perfect home. 

We were excited for all the other puppies.  They all passed with flying colors.  They will be ready to go home to their new homes starting next Tuesday.

We only have two little girls left.  The black and the black and tan are still looking for homes.

We bought everyone we could figure out how to buy.

I suggest to Tom that we probably NEED, the house, the barn, and 17 more alpacas. He actually took it rather well. If you’ve been reading this blog, you know what happened– and he STILL loves me!

Spot the Wonder Dog had surgery for suspected cancer (and you thought we had a lot on our plates) and had his teeth cleaned at the same time. I figured if he had to be out for one he should have both done. Today we got word that it was not cancer. He is celebrating by taking his antibiotics and pain medication. We alternate with treats and he gobbles them down. I think he’ll be disappointed when the pills are gone since he’s begging for them twice a day when he knows it’s time for them.

Tomorrow we are enroute to Loveland, Colorado for the Fall Fest with Cavatina, Fantine, and Cantu. Wish us luck.

Bug is expecting a litter of puppies some time in November.  Keep checking in and I will let you know when they arrive.

My boyfriend drove me to West Eugene today so I could get Kelso some new toys. He’d recently polished off a rawhide and his tennis ball is nowhere to be found So . . . we went to the thrift store first and got him a cute stuffed toy. I think it’s one of the characters from Monsters Inc. Very cute. And only like 79 cents too. Then we went to the dollar store to get him a rope toy and a new rawhide. I know the dollar store has low-quality stuff, but unfortunately this is all I can afford right now. My Standard Poodle (who is living with my parents right now) LOVES rope toys and I am hoping Kelso will to. The only cautionary note I can share (and this goes for any toy) is to make sure you throw the toy away before your dog has reduced it to little pieces. Rawhide, rope, plastic can all get stuck in a dog’s throat if he swallows little pieces.
