3rd October would have been my Nanna’s 90th birthday, but sadly she died in 1997. However she was a great lover of her sweets. She never ate them, just made a few every now and then. In honour of such a big birthday I’m reproducing below what was one of her favourite recipes, for coconut ice. She was a real whiz in the kitchen and a few weeks before Christmas every year she and my mother would shut themselves away in the kitchen and start baking. That no longer happens now as without her my mother is down one member of a team and has never really baked since she passed away. Anyway, the recipe is below. Thanks for reading.

Ingredients

350g dessicated coconut

A large tin of condensed milk (397g should suffice)

350g of icing sugar (Silver Spoon is best)

Vanilla extract (You won’t need much of this, a few drops is all)

Food colouring (Most people use pink or red nowadays but my Nanna always swore by yellow)

Also some butter (Or Marg) to grease

How To

Use a 23cm x 20cm x 4cm deep square cake tin. Rub a little of your butter, or marg, over the inside of the tin, then line the tin and 2 of the sides with baking paper.

Next Pour the tin of condensed milk into a large bowl. Then add the coconut, icing sugar and drops of vanilla extract and mix it together really well. Now spoon half of the mixture into the cake tin and flatten it by pressing with damp fingers. (Don’t forget to dampen your fingers)

Add a few drops of your chosen colour of food colouring to the mixture in the large bowl and mix it together evenly. Spoon the coloured mixture over the top of the white layer (In the square cake tin) and use damp fingers to smooth the top.

Now loosely cover and put in a cool place, leave it overnight, so it will set and dry out. When this has happened use the baking paper to lift the coconut ice from the tin, and then cut into pieces (Should make around 40, however cut it into less if you want larger pieces). The coconut ice will need about a day to set so resist all temptation to wolf it down until then.

Finally store in an airtight container in a cool place and consume within 3 weeks. If all’s gone to plan, it should look something vaguely like the ones below.

Remember us nattering on Friday about all the fun activities we had planned for the day? We were going to scamper off to The Big City to do this….

And a little bit of this….

In an effort to retain some sense of self-worth, to feel we have something of value to contribute (this is of value?!) , we have scraped together a few of the just-released photos from the upcoming Lilly Pulitzer and MAC cosmetics collaboration, MAC in Lillyland.

Ingrediente:
340 gr nuca de cocos
(eu am pus 170 alba si 85 rosie)
340 zahar pudra

Eu am impartit laptele in doua (aproximativ), am facut intai compozitia rosie,
in care am pus cocos rosu si 2-3 picaturi de colorant alimentar rosu.
Am pus in tava intai compozitia rosie, am presat, apoi am pus compozitia alba.

POFTA BUNA!

I have stalked this bathing suit since it went into the lucky chair at Coconut Ice, for oh, Say A YEAR. My husband came to SL and promptly won it right off the bat one day while shopping with me.

Here you see Silo – flaunting his new bikini a year ago, at a party with threw on Vicious Island.

So, I was a little bitter, I gotta admit. I mean, it wasn’t even TRANS! GRRRRR.

Yet, it’s thanks to Silo that I ended up with it at all, because before I signed off he says “Why don’t you go check that lucky chair at Coconut Ice?” So before I trudged to the bedroom I tp’d over to my favorite,most elusive lucky chair.

I seem to be collecting more sweaters this year – perhaps it’s because I’m spending more time wallowing in snowy builds that lend themselves to sensible, warm gear. Cajsa introduced me to Boom and they were gracious enough to give me a yummy sweater to review.

Sweaters only seem to be of two kinds in SL, blah and “oooo cute”. The Fair Isle sweaters are definitely the latter, with nicely done prim attachments for the collar and cuffs. If you don’t pick up a lot of sweaters, you might question how one messes that up – and my answer is, I dunno – but some of them are rather jacked up when you put them on.

I like the shadowing over the tummy – like the sweater truly is pulled across your hips. It’s subtle and well done. And yes I know Cajsa already wore this – but I’m wearing it differently!

Now – for some unknown reason, I didn’t write down whose skin I am wearing. I can’t really see the eyebrows or that would nail it – but I’m inclined to think I’m wearing PXL based on those BEYOOOTIFUL lips. (loves the lips Hart creates). But it could be Fleur maybe? I’m still leaning toward PXL………

I am taking votes on whose skin I’m wearing. Opinions? Anyone? Anyone?

* Serves: 20
* Prep Time: 0hrs 5 mins
* Cooking Time: 0hrs 30 mins

Ingredients

* 400 g sugar
* 160 ml water
* 5 ml vanilla extract
* 130 g coconut
* 2-3 drops pink or red food coloring

Method

1.Line a 7 x 7 inch pan with greased baking paper.
2.In a medium, saucepan, heat sugar and water gently, without boiling, until sugar has dissolved.
3.Then, bring to a boil and cook until a little syrup dropped in a glass of cold water forms a soft ball.
4.Remove from heat and immediately stir in vanilla and coconut. Continue stirring until mixture begins to thicken, 5 to 10 minutes.
5.Pour half of the mixture into the prepared pan and level the surface with a knife or spatula. 6.Tint the other half of the mixture by stirring in the food coloring.
7.Pour the pink mixture on top of other layer, and level the surface. Press all down firmly with the back of a spoon and allow to harden.
8.When firm, turn out of the pan, remove the paper and cut into squares with a sharp knife.

Sweaters, ladies. Sweater weather is coming. Yes you heard me. Labor Day is coming in the US which means we’ll be packing up our whites and our linen, and pulling out sweaters, tweeds and wool. Which makes this a perfect time to show off what I recently picked up at Stitchy by Stitch.

I like to check out the occasional art gallery and I’ve heard about Quadrapop Tree forever and never made it over. While I missed the grand opening of their sim, I managed to eek out some exploring time one afternoon recently and this little ensemble made the cut for the day. Slinking around the mysterious modern landscape and taking in the wonderful pieces, this was a nice casual choice for such a open, laid back sim.

I used to shop, with my old crew, and listen to boys endlessly fawning over them. We’d TP into a place to shop or dance, or – back in the day, gamble….and SUDDENLY boys would flock over to them babbling about how pretty they were. And not your usual “I want make sex”. These were boys with the sense to use some smoother verbiage in their quest to “make sex”.

And I would always be just a little annoyed, because I never seemed to be considered as pretty or as desirable. After all – even if we don’t want to ACT on it – we want to be perceived as an object of beauty and desire…..otherwise we’d all run scaggy griefer style AVs, right?

But everything changed, when I bought the DRESS OF POWER.

posted by Gidge Uriza

I bought it at Coconut Ice after having lusted after it for a week or two. I couldn’t imagine where I would wear it, so I spent considerable time just trying to justify spending the lindens (this was before I truly understood that you get what you pay for fashion-wise). Finally I just took a deep breath and bought it.

With nowhere special to wear it, I simply put it on JUST to be wearing it and went shopping.

And had boys sticking to me like bees to honey withing minutes of anywhered I TPd into.

I also had some girls sticking to me.

Everyone’s dress of power is different. I’m sure that this should’ve been a clear signal of my AVs inner girly light, eh?

So……what does yours look like?

CL: I asked her what the fabric was. It looks like foil Christmas wrapping paper. She said it was latex.
walking over to other pants. These are latex.
GU: No, those are leather.
CL: You’re right, these (walking farther) are latex, these are leather and those are denim. Crazyass denim.
CL: Literally crazyass, look at those pockets. But what are these on the end?
GU: LOL They are probably latex too.
CL: No, they’re all melty.

GU: They look like liquid metal. Metal pants. We should each get a pair and do a joint post. Complementary colors.
CL: I already bought the gold ones.
GU: Hmmm, which color should I get?

While Gidge is deciding, Cajsa begins changing . Trying on different blouses with the pants.
CL: What do you think?
GU: It really works with that shirt.
CL: I was thinking more I spent so much time on it, I wanna get my money’s worth on the time.
GU: I was thinking this top – very clubbing?
CL: Works for me. What do you think of these shoes, Digit Darkes, I know they don’t match but they are so bold.
GU: Still rezzing
CL: Never mind, looks wrong.

CL: So did I tell you I got a note about the Stiletto Moody shoes?
GU: No, what did it say?
CL: One sec, let me pass you my response.
GU: Oh, that is a bad seam!!!!
CL: Where? Where?
GU: Her shoes, I can see why she would be mad.
CL: Whew! I thought you were talking about the shoot. I think she needs to fit them is all, or unpack a smaller calf size. You know when you unpack you select the calf size, but if you choose wrong you can unpack again.
GU: Yes, and well, not everything fits everyone out of the box.
CL: The thing is, the first time I went to Stiletto Moody, I was so totally offended by the price, “never in a million years” I think I told myself, but then I decided to by this one pair and the instant I put them on and walked, I knew why people paid so much. It’s how they photograph. and then and I know it’s dumb, but how they sound. I always hate those walk sound shoes, they’re loud and don’t really sound right. These sound perfect and they aren’t loud.
GU: I don’t have any.
CL: Yeah, you do, Remember when I dealt with that person on the blog and she wanted to give me some as a thank you – but I had already bought all the shoes I wanted. I asked her to give them to you.
GU: OMG! You’re right. I have three pairs of shoes. I am so trying them on after we’re done.
CL: LOL
GU: You know some designers just are expensive, but some charge a lot because they know they are worth it.
CL: Yeah, I mean look at the top you’re wearing. I don’t know who made it but it’s well-made. Your shoulder strap doesn’t get all wack.
GU: Coconut Ice. Andromeda Raine doesn’t mess around.

GU: Blonde or brunette?
CL: Blonde
GU: Do I need a belt? I don’t have one that’s right.
CL: I have one, I think I accidentally bought it twice
GU: Cool rezzes the box
GU: The box is empty.
CL: I guess I didn’t buy two, just store it and the box it came in and thought it was two, but I can lend you one.

GU: This pose hides our magnificent boobs.
CL: It’s supposed to highlight them. It’s called boob girls. When we write about this, you can say boobies. And I will say “Gusset.”
GU: We should totally blog this conversation and I will put that part in with you saying boobies.
CL: Gusset. OK, we won’t do this pose.

CL: I have to edit appearance. I am too tall, I guess.
GU: I am an Amazon
CL: I still have to edit to fit the pose. Dang, now I have to lower my necklace, too.
GU: Our conversation is so edifying
GL: I know.

Now you can’t see my earrings properly – but I’m sporting some of my new favoritest earrings in the history OF pixel earrings. They’re only $L1 on ONREZ from Tekeli-Li. Can you say SCRIPTED COLOR CHANGE earrings? OMG you can change both metal colors and both bead colors for nearly endless variety. They’re actually very delicate and not big and clunky, so you can’t quite see them in the close up as I’d turned them purple and gold. I love them like you would not believe and just bought them for a goof because they were only one linden. Who knew? I own a couple of hairstyles from Tekeli-li I bought for themed events and so was already aware of the quality of the work, but frankly I’m just stunned these were only L$1.

I finaly unpacked the group gift from Periquita and SQUEAL how cute are they!?!?!

I’m too cute. If I do say so myself.

Too often costumes aren’t treated as fashion, and that’s a shame because a lot of hard work can go into creating a good one. And you certainly shop for a costume with the same eye for style and beauty that you might use when looking for a formal gown. In short, even in costume, you don’t want to look bad.

Picking out a fairy costume when I was modeling for a retail logo was easy – I flitted over to Butterfly Island where Andromeda Raine keeps some of my favorite fantasy fairy wear. I don’t Role Play in SL but I’m partial to a fun fairy costume as my friends know.

Looking like my father might’ve been part arboreal (I’d say Dryad but can there be boy dryads? I have no clue) and my mother a proper fairy, this costume from Coconut Ice grows delicate wisteria at the tips of its branch-like wings. Clothed in leaves and flower petals, it’s a wispy costume that I adore. I need to find a new occasion to wear it.

If you’re not familiar with Coconut Ice or the goodness to be found on Butterfly Island, there is a lovely interview with Andromeda posted here. I think I may own every article of clothing mentioned in the article. You can visit her shop OR also find her lovelies on Onrez. I highly recommend her freebie, and always take my noob friends around to get it. I still get mileage for my casual days out of her freebies, even now.
