Oscar Dela Hopia

It’s been a year since the hype of Manny Pacquiao and Oscar Dela Hoya fight. Everyone was talking about it. Everyone was worried on how the fight would turn out. It was definitely the talk of the town.

One saturday, I was watching Eat Bulaga, and saw this EB babe, Ann, doing her thing on one of the portions of the noontime show. The EB hosts used to call her “hopia” because of her “mali-mali” characteristic [she has the tendency to get easily surprised/shocked]. Then, Joey De Leon, the master of creativity and witty remarks, suddenly blurted out the name “Oscar Dela Hopia” for EB Babe Ann. And I find it very funny, and I thought, ‘hey, that’s a nice codename’.

In case you didn’t know, I’ve been an active rusher since 2007, and I’ve been using the codename “Jun13″ for my entries, requests, and greets. The codename is a lil lame but it has its own significance to me, putting together my nickname and my birthday/fave number. But I thought, “Oscar Dela Hopia” would be perfect for me too, since my real name is Oscar, and I’ve been very addicted to hopia that time (well, until now).

So December 8, 2008, I tried joining the top10 using that new codename, and it was a hit! (well I do believe it was). My co-rushers loved it and found it really catchy. I also used that name on the other shows of RX and the DJs also found it very funny. Success!

But that doesn’t end there. My codename evolved to different forms. Chico made a booboo one time and accidentally read my codename as “Oscar Dela Hopia Mani popcorn”.. it was hilarious! So the people started appending more stuff on my codename, making it much longer. But some peeps enjoyed the other style. Gino of Jumpstart enjoys calling me ODH!, Dru invented the codenames O dela Ho, and O dela Ho to the P.I.A., some peeps call me O dela Hops, and the list goes on…

Another cute story. Gelli (GOTG) told me one time that she had a hard time doing the news about Oscar Dela Hoya because my codename keeps popping in her head. And she repeatedly say “Dela Hoya” to herself just to avoid the mistake.

And most of the times, I receive messages in facebook and twitter saying that they always hear my name on the radio and they found it very funny. Some do say that they’re a fan! Whoa. I never thought that this will happen to me. Too overwhelming.

So this morning, I celebrated the anniversary of my codename. I texted C&D about it and they remembered it. I’m so amused because Chico still remembered my old codename. That was really cute!

So now, I’m very thankful to Mr. Joey De Leon. I’m very thankful that I made that decision to change my codename. I’m very thankful that I have the capacity to make people happy.

Trotz Krankheit, natürlich spontan bleiben habe ich mir gedacht. Bei dem Postbesuch die Angestellte mit dezenten Komplimenten und übertriebener Freundlichkeit und Dankbarkeit um den Finger gewickelt und ganz direkt auf einen Kaffe eingeladen. “Ja, gerne!” war die Antwort. Klar ist das ich nur freundlich bin wenn ich was haben will und dankbar bin ich nur mir selbst gegenüber wenn ich merke das mein Plan funktioniert. Der Plan, als erstes die Wohnung anonym-isieren, frische Bettwäsche, Zeitungen und Bücher auffällig platzieren und etwas gutes zu Essen vorbereiten. Das klappt immer und falls nicht, gehe ich halt noch ein Bier trinken.

Am Anfang bin ich immer offensiv, davon fühlen Sie sich meistens überrumpelt und haben gar nicht lange Zeit zum überlegen und sagen spontan “Ja, gerne!”. Wenn man die Beute erst einmal im Visier (dem späteren Tatort) hat werde ich nach und nach gut gestellt schüchterner, dann haben Sie den Eindruck ich würde sie doch nicht so toll finden und legen sich richtig ins Zeug (Alkohol, hilft natürlich auch etwas lockerer zu werden) bis die Falle zuschnappt.

Zum guten Schluss der wirklich schwierigste Teil, wie verkaufe ich mein “Verdammt, ich muss noch mal weg, ich melde mich bei Dir!” am glaubwürdigsten. Das macht man aber am besten ganz spontan!

As I mentioned in the previous post, Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala has reached it’s sixth, and probably last, alpha version. Not only does that mean that it should hit beta very soon (it’s scheduled for 1 October) it also means that it should have hit the feature freeze by now. And that means that the next version of Ubuntu should get its name soon.

We usually post an item when the new codename, but this time we have something even better. Over the weekend Mark Shuttleworth made the announcement as he was speaking via video to UbuCon at the Atlanta Linux Fest. Since the vid is on YouTube I’ll post it here rather than sending you off to another site to see it.

Yes, Ubuntu 10.04, an LTS (long term support) release, will be called the Lucid Lynx. It’s nice to see the Ubuntu community will be sharing the feline love next April.

Suggestions are already coming for the 10.10 version of Ubuntu, although they may break the normal naming scheme and coordinate the name with the Debian release. I guess only time will tell on that one.

Como buenos padres geeks, no estamos pensadon nombres para B., estamos pensado codenames… por ahora no surgió ninguno que nos guste demasiado. Puede ser “ibaby”, “macB”, “betatest”… la verdad que nuestra inventiva no esta muy buena hoy… seguirmos con el tema!

So, a blog I’ve been reading recently, aterribleidea, has this nifty idea where he posts up updates on all his secret projects once a week. The theory is that if the shame of having to post that he’s made no progress should keep him from not making any progress.

Now, I don’t have any intention of publishing any of my stuff (primarily since all of it is based off of other licenses that I don’t have). But I do want to start making progress on some of them, and I’ve decided to lift his idea so that I can make sure I at least put a little bit of time into working on these projects every week. Hopefully, this doesn’t go the way of… a lot of my series.

None of my projects are actually secret, I think; I’ve written a post on all of them. Still, I’m going to give them codenames because being secret is awesome. If it turns out that giving them codenames somehow gives me the idea that I don’t need to actually do work on them since you don’t know what they are, then I’ll just put their real names out there.

1. Codename Charging Unicorn – Fleshed out the flavor of it a bit more, scribbled down some little fluff pieces. Overall, little progress made, but more in the past few days than in the past few weeks. I’m going to work on the mechanics next. This is what I like working on the most, although I’ve hit a road block.
2. Codename Backup Dancer – Yeah, nothing done on this in a while. This is the one I want done most, but that I want to work on least, as of this point.
3. Codename Atomica – Besides a name and a basic idea of how this is going to work, I’ve got nothing. I think aterribleidea referred to it as the “cocktail napkin” phase?
4. Codename Country Showdown – Just thought of this one. Came up with the idea yesterday, don’t know if it’s going anywhere.

Those are the only three projects I can think of now… I’ll probably remember more as time goes on.

Easy to do, but too hard to remember for me. In here, it’s saved eternally.

Some dates in history carry with them such weight that some people probably remember them even more readily than family birthdays. The date most immortalized for Americans is the Fourth of July. Other dates include: November 11—the end of WWI (now Veteran’s Day), December 7—the attack on Pearl Harbor, November 22—the JFK assassination, and September 11—the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

For many living today, June 6^th strikes a deep cord. It marks the invasion by mostly American and British troops onto the beaches of Normandy, France during World War II (known as D-Day), which played a tremendous role in leading the Allies to victory over the Nazis. WWII marks perhaps the last war where the “good guys” clearly trumped the “bad guys.” For those who lived while D-Day made newspaper headlines, it may be rather difficult to imagine a time when people do not remember what happened on June 6, 1944. However, new June 6ths and December 7ths will emerge, in a way replacing the emotion once carried by these dates. For my generation, September 11^th will definitely prove to be one of them. But how will it be remembered one hundred or even fifty years from now?

The visit of President Obama this past weekend to the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, sitting on top of Omaha Beach, brought attention to D-Day in honor of its 65^th anniversary. Omaha Beach, now an area covered with freshly cut grass overlooking smooth sand, once provided the stage for the bloodiest invasion of Operation Overlord. This codename was given for General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s overall plan for a landing on French soil that would catch the Nazis off guard.

Other presidents have journeyed to Normandy to commemorate the events of June 6th. In 1984, President Reagan spoke from Pointe du Hoc to celebrate the 40^th anniversary of D-Day. Reagan became the first U.S. President to participate in ceremonies honoring the service of 160,000 Allied troops. Presidents Clinton and Bush followed him in 1994 and 2004, respectively.

The media portrayed Obama’s visit to be particularly significant because it may be one of the last where those who took part in the massive campaign will be alive to share in the ceremony. It also provides an opportunity to look at how much the world, especially the United States, has changed since 1944. But still we hold on dearly to our past. During the 1940s, it would have been very difficult to fathom a black president. To put time in perspective, African Americans still had to serve in a segregated military until 1948. Although the concept of a black president might have seemed unthinkable back then, today we still contemplate if we would ever be able to elect another president bound to a wheelchair. Americans accepted Franklin Roosevelt’s disability, at least in part, because the media played into the cover-up. Could the media ever hide such controversial information again? Most do not believe it can. Thanks to Watergate.

In addition to noticing how times have changed, this anniversary of D-Day presents a chance for us to think of how historical events have shaped the world we live in today. His experience in WWII taught General Eisenhower a great lesson: the value of having a military that can easily move from place to place. He saw the difficulty in moving tanks around the rough terrain of Normandy. As President, Eisenhower translated this lesson to the United States and developed the Interstate Highway Program in 1956 as a defense measure. So next time you are driving on a highway, think of how it actually started as matter of military defense and has evolved into just another of America’s great luxuries!

Was wäre ein erfolgreiches Produkt ohne vorhergehende Turbulenzen in der Gerüchteküche und einen möglichst verschrobenen Codenamen?

Das Apple-Netbook, das mal kommen soll, mal nicht, hat nun immerhin einen vorläufigen Namen, von dessen Tristesse man allerdings hoffentlich nicht auf den Rechner selbst schließen kann.

K48 soll das Gerät heißen, das sich angeblich schon in der Vorproduktion befindet. So will es Fudzilla von Quellen im Kerngehäuse des Apfels erfahren haben. Und was isses nu? Ein 10-Zoll-Tablet mit Touchscreen, der im großen und ganzen ausschauen soll wie ein überdimensionierter iPod. Naja.

Und weil die internen Quellen gerade in Quassellaune waren, haben sie auch noch was zur nächsten iPhone-Generation ausgeplappert: Kommt im Juni, hat eine schnellere CPU, doppelt so viel RAM, eine 3,2-MP-Kamera, Digitalkompass und 32GB Flash-Speicher. Lo strategico in uscita il 13 marzo 2009 si presenta quindi nuovamente in una edizione riveduta per essere giocata da più persone in contemporanea e provare l’emozione della sfida insieme agli amici.

Cold War sarà un capitolo della serie Codename molto interessante, perché presenta molte differenze rispetto al titolo precedente, sia nella grafica, riveduta e corretta per far sembrare le azioni ancora più reali, sia nella trama del gioco, che si svolge adesso esclusivamente nell’ambientazione dei primi giorni della Guerra Fredda.

E’ un vero peccato che il gioco sarà disponibile solo nella versione per pc. Nell’attesa, comunque, gli utilizzatori di Windows potranno scaricare dal sito ufficiale del gioco il pacchetto di installazione (500 MB), installare la demo e cominciare ad esplorare e giocare, nell’attesa della data di uscita definitiva del videogame.
