Mario is back for long-awaited 2D goodness. Since 1985, the Mario Bros. have been stomping on Go

Mario is back for long-awaited 2D goodness.

Since 1985, the Mario Bros. have been stomping on Goombas and trouncing Koopa shells, while entertaining us. Although most of Mario’s original platforming games since Super Mario 64 have been in 3D, that changed when New Super Mario Bros. was released on the Nintendo DS. It was a good game, but it lacked difficulty and that classic Mario feel. But, a sequel to New Super Mario Bros. has just been released on the Wii, New Super Mario Bros. Wii., the first 2D Mario game on a home console since Super Mario World.

But, does it deliver the classic 2D Mario gameplay we all know and love? New Super Mario Bros. Wii’s ”plot” is the same story you have seen in previous Mario games, Princess Peach gets kidnapped. This time, Bowser sends the Koopalings [who have returned after being absent in a Mario platformer since Super Mario World] and Bowser Jr. do his dirty work.

The gameplay of NSMBW is similar to Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Mario is on a World Map like previous games, and from there he will have to clear levels in order to proceed. In order to clear a level, Mario must get to the end of a level and touch a flagpole [similar to Super Mario Bros.] in order to clear the level. There is also fortress and castle level in each world, and most fortress and castle levels end in a boss fight with a Koopaling. What is so great about this game, is that it takes elements from every Mario platformer, even Super Mario 64 and Yoshi’s Island! Mario can not only jump and stomp enemies, but he can ground pound, triple jump, spin jump, and even wall kick! You have two control options, the Wii Remote on its side and the Wii Remote with the Nunchuck. The Wii Remote on its side is the best control option, but it would have been nice to have the option to use the Classic Controller.

Toad Houses make a return, where you can play minigames to win extra lives or powerups. Like Super Mario Bros. 3, you can use powerups on the World Map before entering a level, a very useful feature. Most of the power-ups are power-ups returning form previous Mario games, such as the Fire Flower and Ice Flower. But, there are two new power-ups, the Penguin Suit and the Propeller Suit. The Penguin Suit is one of the best power-ups in the game. The Penguin Suit allows you to slide on ice, freeze enemies, and swim a lot more fluidly underwater. The Propeller Suit is a great power-up to use, because it allows you to fly up into the air and glide down by shaking the Wii Remote a little bit. My only problem with the controls are that some of the motion controls. Shaking the Wii Remote to spin jump or use the Propeller Suit is slightly annoying, and I wish there was an option to use the action with a button rather than motion controls. You can also ride on Yoshi is some levels, similar to Super Mario World. Riding on Yoshi is extremely fun. But, Yoshi only appears in certain levels, making his role smaller than his role in Super Mario World. I wished Yoshi had a bigger role. The boss fights are very fun, and the single-player mode’s difficulty is somewhat challenging, but nothing super-hard. You have the option of using the Super Guide if you die too many times. If you use the Super Guide, Luigi will appear and clear the level for you.

What is awesome is the fact that you can play the game up to four players, the first time we have seen four player action in a Mario platformer since Mario Bros. In multiplayer mode, you can play as Mario, Luigi, and two Toads. The multiplayer mode is very fun, but it is so chaotic that you and your friends will be dying more from getting in each other’s way then the levels and enemies themselves! Ultimately, the single-player mode is more fun. What is also a shame is that the multiplayer is also local only, online play would have been a very nice addition. There are also two multiplayer-only modes which are Free for All and Coin Battle. Free for All is the same as the main game mode, except you can choose just to play one level. Coin Battle is a mode where you have to get the most coins in a level. Both of these modes are fun and nice little diversions.

The graphics are basic, but they look decently nice. But in a 2D Mario platformer, gameplay matters more than graphics. The music and sound effects are fantastic, and even the voice dialogue is great. There is plenty of replay value in this game. There are three Star Coins in each level, and it will take you quit some time to get all the Star Coins. There is also plenty of secrets in NSMBW.

NSMBW is a fantastic platformer, and it is one of the best 2D platformers on the Wii. Buy it as soon as you can, you do not want to miss out on this great game!

Graphics:8/10-The graphics are nice, but simple.

Sound:9/10-The music, sound effects, and brief voice acting is fantastic.

Gameplay:9/10-The gameplay is fantastic. Both single-player and multiplayer mode are fantastic, but single-player mode is more fun.

Lasting Appeal:9/10 The game is somewhat long, and collecting all the Star Coins will take quite sometime.

Overall:9/10 Awesome

The Importance of Playfish Cash in Country Story Playfish cash For every Playfish game, there is a c

The Importance of Playfish Cash in Country Story

Playfish cash

For every Playfish game, there is a choice you can make to pay for Playfish Cash, an extra boost to your gameplay that allows you to pay for upgrade, shortcuts, and high level decorations for your account that you would otherwise not be able to acquire. But, for every game, players must decide if that Playfish cash upgrade is worth spending their hard earned cash on to get. There are times when it is and times when it is not and as a result, many players are forced to skip some of the wonders of the game outright.

So What Is Playfish Cash Good For?

In Country Story, Playfish cash is good for a lot of things. Unlike other games where you need the cash to help upgrade the size and performance of your farm though, it is used almost entirely for things like larger and better looking items. Additionally, fertilizer is only available with cash, which allows you to grow your crops faster than without the stuff. But, generally speaking, you miss nothing of the game if you don’t have Playfish cash – you just play a little slower and with the same tools everyone else has.

How to Get Playfish Cash without Breaking the Bank

Playfish cash is available from a special menu in Country story that allows you to go in and buy things like the cash and your coins. All of the items you can buy with Playfish cash are separated onto different menus, allowing you to more easily find and sort through them without needing to dig through the coin items. The same works in reverse (which, if you don’t like playfish cash, is a big plus).

Unlike Zynga games which often reward at least small amounts of cash on occasion, Playfish is a cash only business – you either buy the stuff or you get nothing. That means you will need to spend some time deciding whether it is worth going out of your way to spend real world money on virtual goods.
Playfish cash is a luxury that not every Country Story player can afford. But, for those that can afford it, they will find a variety of interesting options opening up to them, allowing them to access parts of the game they may not have realized were there before. However you play Country Story, make sure to carefully balance your decision about Playfish Cash over what you expect to get out of the game and what your budget allows.

Country Story Secrets guide is the only legal guide for this game – it is full of tips for all the levels

One big bonus is that and comes with a free bonus ‘Cash Report’ that shows you how to get all the cash you need in the Country Story game.

tal-is-man: ring, stone, etc., supposed to have magic powers, especially of bringing good luck. Synonyms: amulet, charm, fetish, mascot; wishbone, rabbit’s foot.

Every day, usually within a couple hours of waking up, I hold my little coin talismans and give thanks for all I have, all that I will have and all that I once had. This is an accounting of my wealth and whenever I do it I do not put them away until I have felt a relaxing warmth come over me.

It does this two ways. As I hold them, I hold off this collective infection we have in our world where somehow we feel we just never have enough. I start looking at my bedroom and see all the nice things I have, pictures of people in my life I love, awards for what I have accomplished in Irish dance, etc. This, in turn, allows me to put some space between me and the material world. It’s not everything folks. We need it for consciousness to be manifested, however, it’s not consciousness itself. One is part of the other.

Regular holding these coins, these talismans, has measurably helped me change my life. I’m getting out of debt and should be free of it in at most, two years. I am building the value of my artistic work. I am taking back my life. And boy do I need to that, on a day like this.

Last night at work I had a nice gay couple at my table for a couple hours and they ordered lots of beer and food. I comp’ed them a drink during the night. Then, during one of our nightly shows, they walked out quickly without paying their check. I really don’t care to recount much of the story as it is obviously upsetting when someone steals from you. There is much gnashing of teeth involved and visions of the perpetrators getting blown up stream through your head.

Their accidental or intentional action felt like a direct attack on my image (not on my soul because that cannot be affected by something as silly as theft). It felt like they were stealing a part of me, which as a waiter they were. But as the true Russell Patrick Brown, they were definitely not. Still, to restore that external self that is tarnished by such a negative action, I use my coins. They help me reconnect to the feelings of abundance in life.

This is why talismans are so important. They are an object chosen by you that reminds you to love life in whatever way you feel you need to. I use these coins because I have a hard time staying focused on making money and keeping it. My attention always drifts away from it so it really helps me make sure I provide for myself. Maybe for you it would be better to have shoelace in your pocket that reminds you how gorgeously fit you are and how easy it is for you to work out! Or maybe it’s a water stone you touch every day that gives you the healing power of water.

Whatever you chose, pick a talisman and let the magic work in your life. Maybe it will come from a shaman like my main coin did. It is a penny with a dove punched through it. This symbolizes the Christian Holy Spirit working through money. You’re supposed to hold it a certain way and say lots of good things to yourself. It’s fun! And with it you’ll start feeling the other dimensions of possibility in your life.

Gold hits record high beyond $1,180 per ounce

LONDON (AFP) – Gold prices on Wednesday hit record highs nearing 1,183 dollars as a weak greenback and inflationary fears fuelled demand for the precious metal. Prices also won support from a report that India was mulling the purchase of more IMF gold reserves, they added.

The precious metal hit 1,182.95 dollars an ounce in afternoon trade on the London Bullion Market, after striking a series of historic peaks in recent days and weeks.

Gold is setting new highs because of “the (weak) dollar … (and) also rumors (in the) Financial Chronicle that India is ready to buy more IMF gold,” VTB Capital commodities analyst Andrey Kryuchenkov told AFP. “1,200 dollars is still in sight, being the next target.”

A struggling dollar makes the precious metal cheaper for buyers using other currencies, stimulating demand for the metal and in turn pushing up gold prices. Kryuchenkov added that gold futures were winning support also from a report in India’s Financial Chronicle newspaper that claimed the emerging nation was mulling the purchase of more IMF gold.

The price of gold has rocketed since the start of November when India’s central bank bought 200 tonnes of the metal from the International Monetary Fund.Fears about a future spike to inflation have also fuelled demand, with gold viewed as a “safe-haven” investment in times of economic uncertainty.”Gold prices continue to set fresh highs, buoyed by strong investor demand and a change in the official sector appetite for” the metal, said Barclays Capital analyst Suki Cooper.

Gold Higher On Reports India Could Buy the Rest of the IMF’s Hoard (GLD)

Surprise! Gold is on the move again, following reports that India is open to buying more gold from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after buying 200 tonnes for $6.7 billion on November 3.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may well buy IMF’s remaining hoard of 201.3 tonnes on acceptable terms, which are now under negotiation, according to reports in India’s Financial Chronicle.

A government official said that the additional purchase would depend on the “successful pitching by RBI.” “RBI is an independent body, and the government does not interfere in its affairs. It will get the gold if its bid is successful and at the price it has offered.” said the official.

Spot gold is up to $1180.80 in early trading today, up from yesterday’s close of $1168.20.

Gold ornaments displayed at a jewellery shop in Hyderabad

The ongoing volatility is also keeping the prospective buyers at bay as they are unable to decide whether its the right time to invest in jewellery or not.

The wedding season is considered the best time for gold jewellers but with the yellow metal soaring to a record nearly Rs 18,000 per ten gm, city jewellers have reported a 25 per cent drop in demand.

Even those reaching out to jewellery showrooms at the peak of the marriage season are putting a cap on their purchases, jewellers rued.

They said soaring prices have adversely affected their business as demand for ornaments has witnessed a fall by at least 25 per cent this season.

During the course of the year, the marriage season tends to be at its peak from mid-November to February, barring a few weeks in December with over 25,000 marriages scheduled during the period in Delhi only.

On the recent hike in gold prices, an official at state-run trading firm MMTC said, “While jewellery buying is low, there is a positive influence in buying of gold coins and bars. People are investing more in solid gold expecting the market will rise further and they would be able to get good returns for their investments.”

Market watchers believe that high prices are due to an unprecedented rush of investors into the bullion market, as also high global prices.

The city’s leading gold retailers in Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh said they are flooded with requests for cheaper necklaces, rings, earrings and bangles.

“Till last year, people used to give 10 or 15 tolas (100 or 150 gm) of jewellery to the prospective brides, but now they are buying only after deciding the amount of money they will spend on ornaments,” said Nitin Malik, owner of Malik Jewellers Pvt Ltd, an MMTC franchise here.

Atul Jain, a jeweller from Chandni Chowk said, “Sale has gone down by almost 25 per cent. People are buying only for brides and grooms,” adding a gold ring now costs around Rs 9,000 as against Rs 5,000 last year.

The ongoing volatility is also keeping the prospective buyers at bay as they are unable to decide whether its the right time to invest in jewellery or not. Families are cutting costs and buying new sets only for the bride. The others are just getting old jewellery polished, Mr. Jain said.

According to a shop manager at a Tanishq outlet, the trend of using gold in smaller quantities picked up after 2004, when the price of the precious metal began rising.

“We are now trying to satisfy customers by showing big pieces with less gold and a low price tag,” he said.

Karan Kriplani, owner of Girdhari Lal Co in Connaught Place here said, “A mild sentiment exists among customers.

They are hesitant in buying over the counter.”

A K Chhabra, sales manager with Phulkari in Connaught Place, said people might be buying less jewellery but they are investing in solid gold — bars and coins

In April, for example, the government’s Foreign-Exchange Agency announced the purchase of an additional 16 MILLION ounces for its state coffers!

And just a few months earlier, National Geographic Magazine reported that for the first time China had surpassed the U.S. as a buyer of gold jewelry.

But here’s the amazing thing few investors realize…

This is the first time Chinese officials have intervened in this way in the gold markets—and I expect the result will be a windfall for savvy investors over the next few years.

After all, gold is one of the only “buy and hold” investments in the world right now. It is also the only investment in the world that has gone up EVERY YEAR for the past five years straight. And, remember, China remains the fastest-growing economy on the planet, with the wealthiest government on Earth.

You see, most investors don’t realize that China is now the world’s largest gold producer (they passed South Africa last year).

China is also one of the few countries in the world where known gold reserves are increasing… not shrinking.

For essentially the past 50 years, no one was allowed to touch gold in China… except for the government. Until now!

But today, that is changing… and in a hurry…they not only open up the door to the people of China, they are encouraging them to buy GOLD!

In short, the Chinese government wants more gold to reside in China!!

They realize gold is one of the only buy-and-hold investments in the world right now. And they’ve got a lot of money to spend… nearly $2 Trillion according to a recent report in The New York Times. What do you think will happen to the dollars purchasing power as China moves it’s “DOLLAR DENOMINATED ASSETS” into Gold? It seems that everyone except the Obama administration knows the “dollar is dying” or at least the “Obama Gang” won’t admit it publically!
Another fact to let sink in…twenty years ago, China produced an inconsequential amount of gold.

Today, China is the #1 gold-producing nation in the world…

Now you can see more clearly… WHY China wants to drive the price of Gold up and UP!

It appears that China may be planning to hold and control more Gold in their country than any country in the world, between the government and private sector holdings.

You might want to seriously consider moving your “DOLLAR DENOMINATED ASSETS” into Gold & Silver Collectible Coins…REAL SOON!

I missed this piece when it came out. With all the internet fussing about how ignorant the press (and others) are about Catholicism, and with me going on my usual meme: it’s not just religion, but science, history, geography, classical music, and poor ol’ embattled Catholicism just needs to take a number, I didn’t catch this bit on the former Alaska governor going on about coins:

(S)he began her remarks with a puzzling commentary on the design of newly minted dollar coins.Noting that there had been a lot of “change” of late, Palin recalled a recent conversation with a friend about how the phrase “In God We Trust” had been moved to the edge of the new coins.

“Who calls a shot like that?” she demanded. “Who makes a decision like that?”

She added: “It’s a disturbing trend.”

Well, the presidential dollar series was approved by a Republican Congress and signed off on by President Bush in 2005. Subsequent legislation returned the motto to the face of the coin this year, as you can see on the left here.

Edge lettering is really not a trend in American coinage. It was more frequent in the early 1800’s. Half dollars had it until 1836. Silver dollars for the first ten years of their production. The celebrated St Gaudens $20 gold piece (1907-1933) also. With circulating silver pieces, the edge inscriptions would wear off quickly. Modern coin alloys are far more resistant to wear.

Even so, looking to the edge for dates and mint marks is a bother. It’s one reason why I don’t like the presidential coins. I ask for them at the bank, and I spend them.

As for the new location, I don’t think it works, but at least they didn’t put a comma in between “God” and “we.”

Last week I noticed a 1931 penny in my change. I’m not a serious collector (more like a coin hoarder), but it caught my eye because surprisingly it looked to be in pretty good shape for such an old coin.

When I mentioned it to Larry*, he asked if it was an “S” mint version. I had not actually noticed, so I went home and checked and then looked online for the significance of the “S”.

It turns out that the “S” version has a pretty good value if it’s real and in good shape, of course.

According to this page: http://www.valuable-coin-stories.com/1931-S.html it’s a commonly faked coin. I’m curious to know if anyone can tell by looking at the enlargement below. The “S” looks odd to me, so I’m guessing it has been added on somehow. Either way, it’s interesting to me. I’m amazed that anyone would go to the trouble of faking a coin to make a few dollars! Surely there are other things to do that pay off better!

Note on the photos: The white areas on parts of the coin are due reflection and overexposure of those areas due to the use of a flash. The coin really does look like a real copper penny.

* Larry is an expert collector of all things worth collecting (and then some).

Gold to Make New Highs Above $2000, Says Commodity Maven Frank Holmes
Gold is likely to make a new inflation-adjusted high before its current bull move ends. That’s the word from Frank Holmes the man behind the Morningstar 5-star rated U.S. Global Investors Gold and Precious Metals Fund, which is up 33% in the past year.

The journey to new highs will comes with bumps along the road. Holmes predicts several 10% price swings in the near future. But, he firmly believes negative interest rates combined with massive deficits is a recipe for gold to shine.

What’s his price target?

Holmes predicts gold can easily reach $2300 – the inflation-adjusted high it reached in the early 1980s.

Even-though he is a gold bull, Holmes says investors should only put 10% of their assets in gold; half in bullion and the other half in stocks.

And, he preaches caution when selecting gold stocks, recommending only buying those companies that “respect value per share.” Meaning, avoid the names that may need to raise capital through new stock offerings. Stocks that make his grade include RandGold, and two royalty companies, Royal Gold and Franco Nevada.

Before candy for Trick or Treat there were coins. And before Trick or Treat for Halloween there was Thanksgiving. This is the story.

Up until the Depression, Thanksgiving was celebrated by the kids of New York in a way that looked more like Mardi Gras than Macy’s Parade. Kids would mask and dress up, scrounging for old dresses and top hats or improvising a hobgoblin or clown, blacken their faces with cork, and run the streets “mumming.” We don’t have much mummery today, but it involved music and performance and coins:

To the tune of mouth harps, comb and tissue paper and other childish instruments, or just a whistle, pigeon wings are cut, hand springs are turned songs are rendered and breakdowns executed, in keen competition for “something for Thanksgiving.”

Typically, onlookers would reward the “ragamuffins” with a penny or nickel. Some would shower coins from the overlooking windows, but there was a catch:

They used to heat the pennies on the stove or over the gas and they’d drop ’em out the window and when we kids picked ’em up we got our fingers burned. I remember how my fingers got blistered that way. But they don’t have any real fun like that anymore.

Children weren’t just roaming the streets begging pennies. What was especially annoying was their “practice of ringing all the doorbells and demanding backsheesh.” By 1930, New York’s Superintendent of Schools was publicly condemning the Thanksgiving begging, calling it a “serious annoyance to householders” and encouraging school principles and teachers to instruct students in the origins, meaning, and proper observance of Thanksgiving. Between official disapproval and the low mood and tight purse brought on by the Depression, Thanksgiving mummery disappeared in the late 1930s.

But dressing up and going about ringing doorbells and “demanding backsheesh” didn’t disappear; it just moved to Halloween. We call it “trick or treating.”

In 1950, a Miami woman was prosecuted for “torturing and tormenting” children at Halloween. When a band of youngsters arrived at her house yelling “Trick or Treat,” she invited them in. She disappeared for a few minutes, then returned with a pan in her hand. “Here’s how we treat on Halloween in New York,” she screeched, as she tossed hot coins in the air. The kids dived for the money. Moments later, they ran out of the house screaming.

How To Speed Level Up In The Farm Town Game Tips for the Farm Town Game Farm Town is rapidly becomin

How To Speed Level Up In The Farm Town Game

Tips for the Farm Town Game

Farm Town is rapidly becoming a social networking gaming sensation, and there are plenty of reasons for this. With so many options for game play, Farm Town is a pass time that never gets old. However, it also means that you can fall behind if you are not careful. You will want to move up the levels correctly and as fast as possible.

Getting Ahead

On the surface, Farm Town is not hard to play, but there are a few tips and tricks you may want to try to help you level up quickly. The higher the level you reach, the more options will be available to you in every aspect of game play, so it’s a good idea to make a point early of applying your energy to accumulating experience points so that you can reach those higher levels more quickly. This is quite doable, but you need to know how to go about it if you are going to be able to do it successfully.

Work, Work, Work and then work some more

Of course, you already know that you level up by accumulating experience points, and there are a few ways to earn these experience points. You can certainly get them by doing all of the normal farm chores, both on your farm and on those of your friends and neighbors. But at a certain point, your ability to continue to rack up the points is limited.

You can only work for each of your friends once a day, and once all your land has been harvested, plowed, and replanted, there is not much that you can do except wait until it is time to do it all over again. In the early stages of game play, it is easy to level up and you can usually get all the experience you need from working your farm and those of your neighbors (depending on how many neighbors you have too). But as you get to the higher levels, you’ll need to make greater and greater leaps in your experience point totals to move up, and that means employing a bit of a different strategy if you want to be successful.

Buy Your Way Up

The best way to grab up some big chunks of experience points early is to buy some decorations and other items for your farm. These purchases reward chunks of experience points that generally correspond in size to the cost of the item – the more expensive the item, the greater the experience bonus.

When you are first starting out in the game and trying to establish your farm, you do not have a lot of loose cash to throw around, so buying up a bunch of items isn’t really a practical option. Once you have a good stash of coins and a steady flow coming in, though, you can start using them to buy your way to the higher levels of the game.

This is really the most effective and efficient way of leveling up quickly when you are playing Farm Town. In addition, it does make sense too. After all, what do you have coins for anyway if not to buy the things you want to personalize your farm and really make it your own.

Farm Town coins are of great value in this game, you need to earn as many as possible.

There is a new guide for the Farm Town game called Farm Town Secrets and it also includes a Farm Town Cash report. We reviewed it and used it on our game and found that we were really moving up the levels quicker but best of all getting lots of cash. Read our review here : http://newgameguides.com/farmtown-secrets-guide-review-facebook-farm-town-game-cheats-guide/ and see what you think. It is much easier to have all the cheats and tips in one place!

The monetary unit in Argentina is the Peso, which is identified by the following symbol: $.

• Exchange Rate for Dollar and Euro
The exchange rate is around $3.85 for each American dollar and $5.70 for each euro.

• Argentine Coins
Coins range from one cent to one peso and are the following:

Face of the coins

Reverse side of the coins

There are two versions for the 5 and 25 cent coins. Besides the previous ones, you will find the silver-plated ones ( the alloy has less copper):

Silver-plated 5 and 25 cent coins

Public transportation (bus) fares are paid with coins. Therefore, we recommend that you hold on to them if you plan to use the bus system. The cost of the ticket depends on the distance you travel. Within the city of Buenos Aires, it varies from $1 to $1.25.

• Argentine bills
Argentine bills range from two to one hundred pesos and are as follows:

Face of Argentine bills

Reverse side of bills

Recommendations for recognizing counterfeit bills and coins
The design of the coins may be imperfect, and the coin may look “swollen” or deformed. The images may not be centered correctly.

Bills contain a security thread on the front, a succession of silver-plated segments which, when held against the light, show a dark band in which you can read “BCRA” , together with the value of the bill. You will find this band on $10, $20, $50 and $100 peso bills.

All the bills have a “water mark”, an image of a founding father which can be seen against the light. Counterfeit bills imitate the water mark but it can be seen without holding the bills up to the light.

Earlier this month, the Gold Coast leg of the ANDA Coin show was held. This was the first time an ANDA show had ever been held on the Gold Coast, and to mark such a momentous occasion an exclusive ‘Show Issue’ coin was released. Honoring one of Australia’s most iconic coin designs, this utterly magnificent release concentrates on Andor Mészáros’ 1966 Decimal Pattern 20c design that came so agonizingly close to being used for Australia’s decimal currency. Seriously considered, way back in 1966, the unique 20c motif was almost used on our first decimal coinage. Taking this into consideration one can quite easily appreciate the significance that this release has had on the numismatic community. Depicting a similar design as used on the infamous ‘1967 Goose Dollar’, this design highlights what ‘could have been’ of our Decimal currency.

The History!

To fully appreciate the significance that such a release has had on the numismatic community, one must know the history behind the original coin design. In 1965 the introduction of decimal currency and the subject of national coinage had a much higher profile in daily conversation than it does today. It goes without saying then, that the nation’s coin collectors held very strong opinions about which designs were to be selected for our national coinage.

An original 1966 Goose Dollar Unc

The process by which the designs were selected was carried out by the Commonwealth Government with high consideration as to what were most suitable for Australia. The Government established an Advisory Panel on Coin Design, who commissioned six prominent Australian artists to submit a series of designs for consideration. One of the six artists selected was Andor Mészáros, a highly talented architect and sculptor, and at the time one of Australia’s most successful medallion designers. Although the Government later chose Stuart Devlin’s designs, there was still huge interest in Mészáros’ designs from a wide range of numismatists.

Once the decimal designs were decided upon, many were surprised to learn that a one dollar coin would not be included in the new issues. So in 1966, the ‘Australian Coin Review’ (ACR) ran a design competition for a new one dollar design, with the winning entry being submitted to the Australian Government. Mészáros 20c “goose” design from his original decimal coinage submission was adapted to a one dollar format and won the competition. Sadly misfortune broke again and the submission was rejected by the authorities as they were seeking a common theme for all coins in the new decimal series, as opposed to a series of individual designs. However, the editorial staff at ACR had previously stated that if the winning design was of a sufficient standard, it would be “struck as a souvenir in fine silver”, continuing on to say that the coins would then be made available to collectors through the ACR and coin dealers throughout Australia. In November 1967 it was confirmed that this would become a reality with ACR outlining that 750 silver proof, 1,500 silver specimen and 10 gold coins would be minted. The 1967 ACR Pattern Goose Dollar was then engraved and struck by John Pinches medalists of London. In spite of the thinly veiled disapproval, the ACR’s unofficial crown sparked interest with collectors around the world almost instantly, with the proof version announced to have sold out completely in February 1968 issue of the ACR magazine.

The Coin!

2009 1966 Decimal Pattern 20c ANDA Show Silver Proof

Taking into the consideration the popularity that was sparked by the original “goose” design, and coupled with the tremendous popularity of official Australian ‘Show products’ the new 2009 1966 Decimal Pattern 20c ANDA Show Silver Proof is sure to spark immense interest from collectors around the globe. Crafted to the height of Perth Mint Proof quality, this .999 fine silver coin enshrines the Goose design in immaculate proof quality. A wonderful opportunity to secure this striking coin type individually, the Perth Mint’s decision to issue the ‘Goose’ 20c Silver Proof ONLY at the ANDA Gold Coast Show is an inspired one.

With the huge demand placed on ‘Show products’, Downies has secured as many coins as possible from the edition of 2,500, and as expected our stocks are very limited. Presented on an official Perth Mint card, and available at a very affordable price, don’t miss what is likely to be your only opportunity to secure this historic, exclusive Australian legal tender type.
