Highsnobiety

On the eve of their collaborative release with The Hundreds, we caught up with Cameron Wynne of DeLorean Motor Company to discuss cars, clothes and more. (Yes, what you see above is part of the collection! Black jags on flat black DMC-12. Will be outside The Hundreds store all day tomorrow for the release.)

How did you become involved in DeLorean Motor Company?

Well first off it’s a family business. I have been around DeLorean’s from the day I was born. Originally in California my father had a repair shop repairing DeLoreans. One of my first memories of DeLorean is being dropped to school in one of the movie cars from Back to the Future, which my father’s shop had serviced and was undergoing road testing. So I have been around them my whole life. My first car was a DeLorean.

Unfortunately the only person with networking habits was me, therefore almost all files were uploaded by me. So, a couple of days ago I told myself: if this group does not work this way, could be work in another... and I decided to open it for anyone who wants to participate ... is as simple as sending an e-mail to the group or via this blog (find a link on the right hand side of page) (if this doesn't work you can do it in my spanish blog http://crearescreer.blogspot.com)

A few weeks ago I gave a presentation I’d been trying to put together for the best part of six

A few weeks ago I gave a presentation I’d been trying to put together for the best part of six months and this evening I’ve sent it on to the users who attended and who were unable to attend but showed an interest. I realised at this point I hadn’t actually blogged about it so I thought I might put together a little post about it.

The aim was simply to share some ideas and some bits of ICT that could help people do their jobs quicker/better/cheaper/economically/more easily. Many of these were based upon queries from users and solutions found or in some cases pre-emptively finding options for issues that have yet to be raised.

A note was put into the staff briefing and some posters put up around the office to try and get people along to the presentation. The attendance was surprisingly low and it’s unfortunate in terms of what people missed out on but I thought I’d highlight the areas that were discussed and some high level points on what was demonstrated and discussed.

The presentation was split into four main sections – software, hardware, web sites and engaging with the ICT team.

Software

Skype

Working with PDFs

Microsoft Office plug ins

I don’t plan on publishing the presentation widely as much of it is only directly relevant to Academy ICT users in the way it is presented, but the outline above gives an indication of the content and areas in which the user community is developing.

Hopefully some imminent developments might help create a greater sharing of such ideas and information within a community and build a better culture of knowledge sharing and management.

Wow so its been almost a month since I last posted, slightly embarrassing but its been for good reason! Over the past 4 weeks I’ve been spending a lot of time with people in the Social media/technology fields and attending events to expand my overall knowledge, I’ll have an post coming up soon but I thought I’d lay down a summary of the events I’ve been to:

Podcamp Toronto : Ryerson needs to hold more of this type of event! I think the school really demonstrated what it was about and showed how they can excel above the rest. This ‘unconference’ while initially rooted in the realm of podcasting expanded into blogging, social media, and overall just business/interaction on the net. Some of the sessions I attended included :

-Building Relationships with Word of Mouth and PR Practitioners While Maintaining Credibility with Your Audience .Panel Discussion included : Anita Clarke,David Jones, Eden Spodek andMatthew Stradiotto, moderated by Keith McArthur.
-I Got the Job because of Social Media by Daniel Patricio
- Web Metrics Suck, (Or: How to Use Metrics to Get Sh*t Done) by Jeremy Wright of B5 Media

PodCamp Toronto

PodCamp Toronto

Overall A+ conference! Really enjoyed it! I haven’t had time to check things out yet but as a bonus all sessions were posted to the web : http://podcamptoronto.pbwiki.com/MediaArchive2009

Facebook Camp at MaRs: Held only for a night, and quite a different set up but still was a very useful and informative event! Just to share some interesting Facebook insights did you know that 70% of toronto residents are on Facebook? Or on average that Canadians use this site 29.6 minutes a day and 2.7 times! Canada is a major Facebook nation.

Some key highlights from this event included:

Facebook Connect: Looking at the Facebook platform that allows companies to connect Facebook profiles and import that information directly to their website allowing users to bring their friends and login with them. Not only does this create an easier process for the user but through interconnectiveness at facebook it can encourage users to add more content and drive more traffic to a person’s website.

Whopper Sacrifice: I’ve personally experienced the site when it was up and running but it was great to see the marketing statistics and effectiveness of this campaign. Done by Refresh Partners ( located in Toronto!) this campaign was amazing! A user of the site was given the ability to sacrifice 10 friends for a free whopper, where the friend would be sent up in a flame and burned to ash digitally. This program achieved amazing results!

-233,906 friends sacrificed
-high virolocity: for every one user of the site, they sent 2 more.
-After 10 days the coupons ran out and Burger king happy with the results shut down the site!

Democamp19: Another great event, but again very different from the other 2 I attended. In comparison this event was about web entreprenuers demonstrating their latest projects to the net community. So many great projects to discuss, rather than blather on I’ll post all of the sites:

-Akoha
-Backtype
-Dex
-foodea
-Imagespark
-Kontaigent
-Hackerspaces.org
-N8R text : text your location to N8R text at 416-662-3408 and get a haiku of the location
-Communitie

Something I found interesting at this event was the idea of Ignites presentations which means 20 slides at an auto setting of 15 seconds per slide. It forces the presenter to be on task, well practiced and succinct I think I’d like to try doing it in the near future.

US Now

Us Now Movie Screening: This was at Bloor Cinema, the movie was about the idea of a colabortive world using web tools and how government and organizations can use this to bi-pass barriers and have a more involved organization. Most of the people I were with were there to see Don Tapscott ( which I was too, his book “Grown Up Digital” is a must read!) but I was really excited by the ideas presented in the movie. One interesting segment included a British football team owned and run by the fans. By collaboration they decided which players to purchase, the starting positions of the players and other tasks that a regular owner would do and I was amazed that such a system was sustainable. Unfortunately Don Tapscott didn’t have much time to speak, but he did share some insights in the end and overall yet another good learning experience.

GenYto/Canlit at CSI: Not a direct learning experience but still an interesting event to attend.Involving many of the people I’ve been speaking with over the last while I thought it was really interesting to see how this group is made up ( from marketers/ photographers/ PR People/Webdesigners and the list goes on….) despite everyone coming from different backgrounds/experience levels everyone was still able to come together have a good time and share experiences. Following the theme of all of the events it was about collaborating , sharing and bettering each other as a group. While this was more of a winding down and having fun event its not something one would normally see happening very often in my opinion.

Parts of it I like, other parts not so much, it was my least favorite project from my class back in college (not sure why it ended up at desk really). So I ask, what would you do with it?

Onde intranets e portais corporativos agregam valor? O que eles fazem que nenhum outro sistema faz?

Onde intranets e portais corporativos agregam valor?

PORTAL = Tecnologia/Integração = integrar e orquestrar sistemas de forma mais racional, para a TI, e amigável, para o tomador de decisão/usuário;

CONTENT = Conteúdo = promover a produção, acesso, uso, reuso e guarda dos muitos conteúdos produzidos no ambiente corporativo;

E, a partir dessa visão, construí o diagrama abaixo:

A series of mythological artworks exploring
the themes of temptation and revenge.

Opening 12pm PST (SLT), 27th July 2008 until 7th September 2008

Musa Artis: Temptation & Revenge is a new exhibition that began life as a project penned for Second Life’s Fifth Birthday celebrations but developed into a larger independent exhibition. The central theme explores two of the darker influences on human nature and how these have been worked into the fabric of mythology. Drawing influences ranging from ancient Greece through to Celtic and more modern subcultures, each individual exhibit features a display of images, worked into the environment by each artist helping to contextualise the subjects depicted.

Musa Artis is a group of artists formed during the conception of the Temptation & Revenge exhibition in 2008, which came together due to a commonality of interests and philosophies regarding art within Second Life and were determined to create successful collaborative work in an independent fashion, free of the regulatory interference of either event organisers or gallery promoters. Temptation & Revenge represents their first in world collaborative project.

Visitors are very much encouraged to take their time exploring the individual exhibits and the ambience of the natural settings, interacting with the scenery to create their own custom images.

The opening reception and toga party begins at midday on Sunday 26th July, with music provided by guest DJ Arahan Claveau.

SLURL will follow in coming days.

This exhibition includes work by:
Keeran Blackadder, Ganymedes Costagravas, Raul Crimson, Cerdwin Flanagan, Zinc Karas, Khamudy Mannonen, Pilgrim Miles, Keiko Morigi, Silverdrake Sparrow.

Contact: Khamudy@gmail.com

Alternatively, contact the artists in-world or through their Flickr profiles.

So, you know, you’re invited to the party next sunday! I will post a SLurl before sunday.
