I am throwing a Forever Alone party this Thursday. Yes, Valentines day. Sort of pathetic right? Well I’m hoping it will be fun. So far my friends have collaborated and come up with these plans:
1) Watch Romantic Comedy Movies
2) Eat Chocolate
3) Cry because we are forever alone.
Still quite pathetic, right? But I guess that’s us, pathetic lonely girls with nobody to love.

But then again…

Twelve days ago, I was begging to be loved. I have always had my creepers, my admirers, my follows, whatever you want to call them. They are all unwanted. And there are many of them. But then you have those special ones that seem to come out of nowhere…

Twelve days ago, I felt doomed to an eternity of loneliness because all I had was said list of creepers. But then, speech came along, and people started noticing me, and these people started talking to me, and now, I just don’t know what.

His name is Taylor, and I have mentioned him before. He is a football player, tall, dark hair, muscles, a little fluffy but definitely not fat, nice, cute smile… And he talks to me. We went to grade school together. He has a car.

He talks to me. It’s not that big of a deal right? But what if his body language is saying more. Or the WAY he talks to me. Like he finds any little topic to talk about. Does that mean he likes me? Or am I just delving too deep into an every day occurrence. I’m pretty sure he likes me. I just can’t tell how much. Today I though he was going to ask me out, and then he just asked me what my speech topic was about instead.

To which I replied, Potatoes.

I was both disappointed and relieved. I don’t know how to act around him. Thinking about him maybe asking me out makes me scared and excited and I get this pit in my stomach like I might scream or… something.  I wanted him to ask me while at the same time scrambling through my thoughts, wondering how to reply… Yes? No? Uh, can I take a rain check? I’m sort of hopeless.

I don’t even know if I want him to ask me or not. I’m scared.

I don’t know what I’m scared of. It’s frustrating. I don’t want to be alone, I want somebody to love. Then I find somebody that seems really nice and cute and he likes me, and then I don’t even know what to think anymore.

This song makes me cry. The good kind.

This song instantly puts me into a good mood.

And I only discovered it this week. Thank you, Pandora.

Runnin’ Around - Colbie Caillat

Love is in the air (and so are love songs apparently). I’m feeling warmer and fuzzier as the days go by. Expect an ambush of love songs. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I remember a trip after my sophomore year of high school that my class took to Cape Cod.  We went whale watching, visited a nautical museum, played some mini golf, and had a few nice meals.  I listed to the first Matchbox Twenty album, “Yourself or Someone Like You” on the ride up, the ride back, and many times in between.  It’s a happy association.

Around the time the cat Midnight that I had had since birth passed away, I had bought the single by Sophie B. Hawkins “As I Lay Me Down to Sleep.”  It was sometime around the eighth grade.  Midnight had gotten sick pretty quickly, and she was nineteen years old.  We didn’t have to face the pain of putting her to sleep.  ”She will die soon,” I remember the vet telling us.  ”Just keep her comfortable.”  My mom held her on her lap that last morning, she took her last breath, and she was gone.  My mom cried, and I cried, and my dad took care of everything.  For a long time, I could not hear that song without crying.  I heard that song today.  It made me sad, but then it made me happy.  My cat lived nineteen years (longer than I had lived at that point) and had passed away in peace.  Something to be thankful for.  Later, when Fluffy, our other cat, became ill, we had to put her to sleep, and it was more than any of us could handle.  Midnight’s quick passing was a blessing in disguise.

Last night, we watched “Groundhog Day” as I mentioned before, since it was Groundhog Day.  The song by Sonny & Cher, “I’ve Got You, Babe” played over and over as Phil Connors relived Groundhog Day over and over.  We chose this song for our cake cutting at our wedding.  Probably most people didn’t get it, or thought we just liked that song…but it was more than just a love song for me.

When I think about the best (or worst) manic period I’ve had in recent years, I remember when I decided that we needed to fly to Phoenix, Arizona for a concert.  Not just any concert.  A concert with Rob Thomas, Jason Mraz, and Colbie Caillat.  Three favorites.  I remember the flights to and from Arizona.  We sat next to a cocky little boy who tried to brag to us on the ride home.  I remember the long wait to get inside, the amazing performances (“This Is How A Heart Breaks” and “Lucky”), the acts that went on in between (Gavin Rossdale and the B-52s) and how we watched comfortably from a park bench on the side of the stage.  I remember the pure adrenaline and exhaustion of those two days.

Later that year, as I was coming down from my temporary high (mania is always temporary), we traveled again for a concert, this time to New York City.  We went to the Beacon Theater (my first and last visit).  It was incredible.  No matter where you sat, the view was perfect  We saw Carolina Liar, One Republic, and Rob Thomas (are you sensing a trend yet?).  But the song that stayed in my head that weekend was “Who Says” by John Mayer.  My favorite John Mayer song (well, maybe a close second to “Your Body is a Wonderland”).  The lyrics are now tattooed around the butterfly on my ankle.  ”Who says I can’t be free?”  It’s a sentiment that echoes in my head practically every day.  It keeps me going, keeps me optimistic, keeps me writing.

Anyway, I’ve been a huge fan of both Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw and I couldn’t be more excited when I found out that they were working on a song together. I couldn’t wait to hear the song and when I finally did…it was everything I imagined it would be and more! Hahahaha! Can you feel my excitement?!! LOL! I just really love them both! The song is very touching and meaningful and I’m sure a lot of people can relate to it. It’s also the theme song from the movie Safe Haven based on Nicholas Sparks‘s novel which is due out next month…just in time for Valentine’s Day . Last week, the official video was released and of course I LOVE IT!!! Hahahaha! Ooops…..I almost forgot…the song is entitled We Both Know.

I might have jumped the gun when I said “relationship” because we don’t have an official label on it. And until this summer when I fly out to actually be with him, I cannot call it anything official.

So I dream of this. The kisses and touches that are to come. And I imagine them to be truly lovely. When I heard this song, I thought of how he would send magic into my skin through his fingertips. I was almost floating

Of course there are lots of fears, like if it doesn’t work out or if our kisses don’t sync. But why worry about that right? With all the ways it has flowed perfectly till now, I cannot imagine our kiss chemistry to be anything short of magical.

I made the big announcement two days ago, that I was really coming to see him. I was terrified. But he was happy. Not jumping out of his seat like I would have been had he said he’d come to me, so I was still nervous. But he brought it up a few times in our call and said everything seemed more exciting now that he knew I was gonna be there soon and he could feel me for real. Which is really great to hear

I am used to guys who freak out at any show of genuine emotion.

Sometimes I don’t know why I worry (which only started maybe 2weeks ago after months of only joy). This started unexpectedly and just flowed into more and more beautiful things that we couldn’t have planned for. And everytime, he has warmed my heart with all the ways he isn’t like the boys I am used to (who never complete me). I worry that I am feeling too much, showing him too much fondness that it may overwhelm him. But he is the one who first played me songs that gave me butterflies. He is the one who said that he just wants to sit there and look at my eyes.

Both of us have our reasons for being single for some time now. The way he talks to me every couple of days, smiles at me quietly, actually verbalizes that he likes me…. it seems silly that I doubt his dedication.

The problem might be that with distance, it’s easy for someone else to swoop in and with the easy charms of being in person, it’s difficult for me to control that. And that’s the part that scares me. I don’t think I have ever woken up thinking of someone and gone to bed thinking of him and been distracted at work thinking of him. So for the way he makes me feel, I am blown away and terrified all at once.
