Hace un momento hablábamos de que el glamour no se puede perder ni en la ducha, ahora agregamos, tampoco cuando se anda en moto. Y qué mejor que los cascos de Karl Lagerfeld de su colección Otoño 2009. 

Estas fabulosas piezas no podían ser más femeninas y lujosas. Vienen con perlas incrustadas y cubiertas piel de visón (cuidado con PETA). Por el momento, sólo se pueden encontrar en Colette, Paris y otras tiendas especializadas, por un módico precio de US$1,805 a US$6,837.

You name them, we follow them. Whether it’s the self-imposed muses at Kingdom of Style, or the king of street stalking Sartorialist, fashion bloggers are the future.

We’ve shown our admiration for the Susie Style Bubbles, Bryan Boys and Tommy Tons, and Journalists from industry fashion bibles continue praise the mantras of those already on top. But fashion leaders must always be on the lookout for what’s new – what’s hot. Especially when a majority of the fashion bloggers shop at the same places.

The creme de la creme of High street retailers: American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, H&M, and Topshop are forever indebted to the fashionistas who consistently create looks on their blogs that inspire a growing batch of followers. Without this new school of “unofficial” spokespeople, fashion retailer’s net profits would plummet at jet speed.

This post is an ode the new generation of bloggers. They’re young, fashion-forward, and proudly Canadian.

Regardless of how different they are in content, the selected fashionistas have three things in common: high street style, thrift shops and character.

So here we go.(And by the way, all images are properties of the blog owners.)

The Dreamer: Rachel, 16, Serva Me, Servabo Te.

This young blogger loves pretty floral print dresses and far away places. In July 2008, Rachel founded  Save me, And I Will Save You. With piercing green eyes, fiery red hair, and a direct sense of fashion, Rachel updates her followers about fashion finds at Toronto’s vintage shops, and has a knack for binding art, fantasy books and music into her fashion entries. Though she has a passion for fashion, it’s easy to see her cultivating a career in the literary world, maybe with Penguin Books.

The Fashion Creator: Katia, 17, Blinding Bright Lights.

Whether Katia’s venturing european countries or strolling NYC, this Montrealer/Student  is a self-proclaimed “fashion-obsessed vegetarian with extremely high hopes for the future.” Fashion through her eyes is a cluttered barrage of colour, and putting looks together is much like changing underwear – she does it often. Her posts garner a legion of responses, which means she’s becoming a prominent voice within Canada’s fashion blogsphere. Maybe she’ll launch her own line, land a job at Colette or French Elle.

The Fashion Editor: Lea, 13, Lea Likes Fashion.

Don’t be fooled by the pouty demure in this picture; there’s nothing emo about Lea’s blog. In fact, it’s along the lines of UK’s Grazia. At just 13-years-old, Lea’s one of the most underrated yet promising personalities in Canadian fashion – literally. She’s a woman of little words but high on visual content. Noting Alexander McQueen as one of her favorite designers, she’s quick to post pre-season haute couture collections and one-on-one guides of her own daily looks. She’s got the look that will land her in front row of fashion weeks, and she’s got lifestyle flair; she posts food recipes and tips making her a well-rounded blogger. Word to the wise Lea, have you seen MCQ’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection of to die for bags?

The Society Girl: Olivia, 21, Stylestruck.ca.

She’s got a cute cropped cut and kick ass heels. And when she’s not giving the low down of what’s in her closet, Fashion Blogger Olivia does her own rendition of street stalking. She’s all about who’s who in the Vancouver’s (and abroad) fashion scene. She’s got a positive attitude and wears a bright smile to match. She’s definitely one of those fashionistas you’ll see working the PR circuit for a well-renowned fashion house, maybe Diane Von Furstenberg?

The Glam Girl: Abbey, 16, Abbey Karson Blog.

Abbey’s got enough style to be apart of the team behind über-fashion mags like Pop, or Katie Grand’s Love. Note the british mags mentioned; that’s because she’s cool, maybe too cool to be in Canada. With her doll-like features and semi-beehive hairstyle, Abbey is essentially Britpop to-the-max. The quality of the images on her blog are stunning and the fashion-girl-against-rural-backdrop (except when she is in front of her magazine poster plastered wall) is fresh and exciting.

The Indie Fashion Maven: Siân, 23, Good Stuff Here.

Out of all the bloggers, Siân would probably be the most anti-mainstream, though she genuinely is the most avant-garde. This Makeup Artist from Toronto’s style resonates throughout her blog; she’s one of those personalities you can see getting in with weekly indies like Toronto’s Now! Magazine, or working her magic through commissions from Creative Agencies. She’s an unapologetic blogger, not afraid to voice her dislikes which gives her platform a niche following. And, considering a lot of the fluff bloggers tend to do (myself included), that’s not such a bad thing. If all else fails, she can always become a spokes model for Carri Mundane’s Cassette Playa collection.

Sometimes her beauty alone can break my heart.

The next day was Saturday, and Candy had no classes; she didn’t get up until about ten.  When she went downstairs, Mr. Christian had already left for the office, as he usually did on Saturday Mornings, to “take care of thing that have been piling up.”

Candy always enjoyed having breakfast alone, for then she could drink her coffee undisturbed by her father’s frown and his occasional quips about, “cocoa being best for a growing girl.”  This morning she had two cups, from time to time looking anxiously out the breakfast-nook window, into the sunny backyard – for this was the day that Emmanuel came to mow.  And Candy had made her decision.

After her coffee and toast (she told herself she was much to excited to hav emore) she went back upstairs to her bath, and afterwards put on her favorite perfume, Tabu.  Then she went downstairs and out the back door.

Does love know boundaries?

Rien est à vendre en direct sur le site, il vous permet juste de faire des essais de toutes les tenues dont vous pouvez rêver et après craquer en boutique si vous en avez envie (ou plutôt le budget pour!).

Reebok threw a kickin party to celebrate 20 years of the pump last week. While it was easy to be wooed by the towering pro athlete presence of hosts Emmitt Smith and Dominique Wilkins, as well as the open bar and mini Pop Burgers, I’m all about the Pump.

To start, one of the new limited edition Pump X styles, designed by Boston sneaker retailer, Bodega, was sold via lottery this week to keep collectors from camping out in front of the store.

Reebok, whose entire staff was decked out in new retro versions of the custom fit shoe at the party, made sure to decorate the place in 90’s Pump posters that reminded me; the pump wasn’t just a basketball shoe. It was a tennis trainer, worn by great Michael Chang. It was also a running shoe, an aerobics shoe, a football shoe, the list goes on.

And now it’s a limited edition. Here are a few of my favorite designs from it’s exclusive 20th anniversary partnerships.

La Pump souffle ses 20 bougies… A la rédaction de GQ, on est plutôt Stan Smith, Air Force One ou Reebok Classics. Les trucs discrets quoi… Il n’empêche qu’on a tous un souvenir ému de la Pump de Reebok, dont le modèle tennis fut immortalisé par Michael Chang. Véritable chausson qui se gonfle d’une simple pression du pouce, la Pump fête ses vingt ans. Et on a tous un souvenir de cette Reebok de légende (généralement, ça tourne autour des parents qui les trouvaient vraiment trop chers… mais passons). Pour fêter dignement cet anniversaire, Reebok propose vingt modèles collectors, dont celui pour la France, conçu par Colette.

I’m sure by now we’ve all heard the news; one-time cool girl line Luella will not be selling anymore. I really only heard of the line while in the Vogue offices, but I remember it sure was a funky brand.

Owner Luella Bartley started the line in 1999 after a stint as a Fashion Journalist for Vogue, The Face and Dazed. She experienced success designing for US retailer Target’s Go International line and launching a limited edition bag collection in Hong Kong, she was also in high demand by the likes of countless slebrities including Cate Blanchett, Kate Bosworth, Reese Witherspoon and Sienna Miller.

If you read my previous post; last night was literally the party of sneaker century. London celebs Alice Delal, Jade Jagger (who was spinning a DJ-set with hubby Dan Williams) and Kelly Brook were living it up in celebration of Reebok’s 20th anniversary. Beautiful people, drinks and a deco of color encompassed the Reebok Lounge; and yours truly was there to witness the gorgeousness of it all.

In commemoration of Reebok’s anniversary, specialty retailers Bodega, Alife Rivington Club, Colette, Patta and Size? are releasing limited edition collabs, including a little something new for the ladies.

Recently, DJ and sometimes Lindsay Lohan kanoodler Samantha Ronson teamed up with Supra to produce a high-top sneaker. “The shoes are a version of the brand’s Indy pair but in a new set of colors — distressed black suede with a gold detail and white sole,” wrote New York Magazine’s The Cut Fashion Blog.

According to Ronson’s Web site, she’ll have a new sneaker out late this month. ”Originally not planned for a public release, we’ve decided to drop a limited run of these hyper-colored TK’s after hearing your cries for blood. 600 pairs of each colorway will be produced,” Ronson writes.

Hello Kitty — celebrating birthday number 35 — also designed sneakers styles. “These two renowned companies have designed limited edition sneakers to honor Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary,” said BeautyStyleWatch of HK’s collaboration with Asics. “Not only are they comfortable to wear but they are so totally hot to look at!”

And the LA Times blog writes, “When we thought Hello Kitty domination was beginning to wane, we came across these Asics sneakers and just about died and went to Hello Kitty heaven.”
Coming in Jaunary, according to Converse Shoe Store’s blog, the footwear company will release “several shoes dedicated to The Clash. Most notably is the Converse London Calling shoes which celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the album. There will also be a pair of Converse Shoes that look like a jacket with buttons and Chuck Taylors with The Clash logos.”

Parisian boutique Colette collaborated with Reebok on a redesign project. Explains excellent women’s sportswear blogger FemaleSneakerFeinds, “Reebok’s celebrating the 20th birthday of their Reebok Pump by collaborating with 20 elite shops to design their own versions of these classics. Here is Colette’s take, and I love ‘em!”
The catch: According to SuperXOfficial, “Only 30 pairs of these kicks will be produced so either catch a flight to France on November 16th (the day they drop) or check eBay on the 17th in the a.m.” We’re passed those crucial dates, but it’s still worth checking.

This summer, Vanessa and Angela Simmons (daughters of Run-D.M.C.’s Joseph Simmons) added to their Pastry line, which is kicks rather than cakes. Reports Sneakers and Shoes (who has been following the line since 2007), “Pastry is doing alright. I see women wearing them every other day in one way or another.”

It’s always exciting to see some cool window displays and we just dig the Colette shop in Paris.

Karta Healy, the man behind the Two n Fro concept store in West London is driven by sustainability + urban vehicle design.

With a background panning the globe the experience is clearly encapsulated in the range.

Flexible cycling attire, accessories, shoes + shirts to head lamps + helmets are all in store for the cyclist who could be on/off their 2 wheels at any given time.

A pool of materials are used; soy, silk, bamboo fabrics + a selection of recycled materials including parachutes, tyres + yacht sails.

Dedicated to the cyclist’s lifestyle, Karta also curated MeWeCycle for Colette in Paris this June, 2009.

The project saw collaborations between many designers who based their contributions on their love of the bicycle and creative-recycling.

Want this! I adore Jeremy Scott and every time he puts his own touch to a Longchamp bag I try to get my hands on it, but I’m a sec’ too late =(. It’s especially heartbreaking when you see a girl at Amsterdam Amstel train station rocking the “Floral Fights” version you wanted. Grrrr! But with a new one in line, I won’t be too late this time (seems like i’m on a rhyme fest today). Matter of fact, I just ordered mine and can’t wait to sling it over my shoulder (jumps of joy)! I’ve got a jones for bones. And Mr. Scott, you just keep ‘em coming. Secrets of the Flesh: A Life of Colette

I’ve read this biography three or four times, and it’s dense, and for good reason. Colette was pretty fascinating;  she had a scandalous marriage — a mésalliance — to a much older, much more sophisticated man, who had her ghost-write a series of wildly popular, very racy novels (the Claudine novels) in fin de siècle France. He took credit for them, and then. . . well, this is just the beginning of a long life encompassing wars, love affairs (with both genders) and an awe-inspiring amount of writing on a huge variety of subjects. Colette’s writing ouput was prodigious and lasted until her death.

I’d read several Colette stories before — most people are familiar with the film Gigi if nothing else, but I really prefer her novel “The Vagabond” for its thoughtful analysis of what it is to live a woman’s life without a romantic  relationship, on what is solitude, why do we chose it, etc. It’s even more interesting to think (a) of its validity to women of the 21st century, to whom this question is still a living, breathing bête noire, and (b) this was written at the turn of the century and published in 1911.

Consider her protagonist’s thoughts on returning home after a long night at the music hall.  Could they not be the thoughts of any woman — or of any man — returning home to an echoing house after a long day at work? Proceed a bit longer, though, and the thoughts are most definitely those of a woman.
