The large collider is up and running and with it a further step towards understanding the building b

The large collider is up and running and with it a further step towards understanding the building blocks of the universe, you know, the yellow Lego ones that toddlers get stuck up their noses.

Good news is that the world didn’t end.

Bad news is that the world didn’t end.

If it had we’d at least have seen a result that we unlettered public would understand, even get excited about. Earth sucked into an artificially made black hole; crappy headline, but proof that we’re getting what we pay for in scientific funding. Damn you science, where are our jetpacks, flying cars, robot love slaves, and shark with frikkin laser beams? Huh? HUH?

What we do know from the smashing together of sub-atomic particles is that no mini-black holes were created, at least not for a measurable length of time. Sadly this means that the five-dimensional construct of space and time (the Randall-Sundrum Model) has suffered another setback. Too many more of these and it might go the way of the dodo.

There have been teething problems, or in this case, conception, gestation, and development problems, with just a dash of toilet training thrown in. Of course the setbacks have a malevolent awareness lurking behind them, possibly the Higgs Boson itself according to Matt Ford.

Not that our lack of self-destruction in science is slowing down our ability to annihilate our own species, in 2008 alone over 2 million died from AIDS. You recall AIDS don’t you? The horrific plague that haunted those growing up in the eighties, inflaming hate crimes, branding the homosexual community. The incurable and ultimately fatal disease that was largely forgotten by the 90’s?

In Africa there is the horrific idea that sleeping with a virgin can cure AIDS, while in xenophobic parts of Asia it’s believed that only visiting English teachers have the disease. We’ve got missing nukes AWOL from the former soviet socialist republic, an increase in anti-biotic resistant bacteria, and a return of 70’s fashion. The horsemen are coming, and they’re wearing leg warmers and lime green.

I am really excited with the commencement of the Large hadron Collider (LHC) again. What is it? Goog

I am really excited with the commencement of the Large hadron Collider (LHC) again. What is it? Google out for that . CERN has updated that they are a step closer to the Big-Bang simulation.Physicist there have smashed protons with nearly the speed of light for the first time in the world’s largest particle accelerator.

The recent successful collision occurred at 900 billion electron Volts (GeV), each beam supplying 450 GeV. It took 3 days for the Big-Bang kind of effect to simulate in the 27 Km ring. They are planning to hit the beams with 1.2 teraelectron volts each(Phew!!). This is to occur within next few days before the LHC is shut down for the winter break. It will resume again in Jan 2010.

LHC has the potential of 7 electron Volts per beam, leveraging which, is expected to reveal the mystery of Universe and also the existence of theoretical Higgs boson many times called The God Particle which could help explaining the origin on mass in the Universe.

Now, waiting for the results before their winter break..Hoping for the best…

The greatest wizard of all fantasy
of nature, smashing bits to tease a truth
from mysteries exploding out of clouds.

But if you were a stranger to this world
recording every strange new lovely sound,
you’d never guess the grand piano pushed

(Date: 26th December, 2009)

Our top headline today, Switzerland is no more. The Large Hadron Collider has actually worked.

It produced a black hole and swallowed up the tiny mountain state in Western Europe, cuckoo clocks and all. At the time all the investment bankers, lawyers and tax dodgers of the western world were holidaying in their chalets in the country formerly known as Switzerland. They all got sucked up and vanished too.

Spontaneous celebrations are occurring in cities around the world as ordinary people take to the streets in order to mark the passing of the most reviled people on Earth.

The scientists behind the project are being hailed as heroes as they singlehandedly have wiped out centuries of nepotism and injustice in the flick of a switch. A spokesman for the group of doctors and professors behind the LHC told this blog:

‘I love it when a plan comes together’.

Hot Fuzz… Shaun of the Dead… Spaced… Ring a bell? Edgar Wright is one of the best

Hot Fuzz… Shaun of the Dead… Spaced… Ring a bell? Edgar Wright is one of the best and freshest directors in Hollywood. Hot Fuzz is personally one of my favorite movies. His newest project is promising to top them all.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World stars Michael Cera, is about a boy who falls in love with a girl (he’s never done that before in a movie), and must defeat her seven boyfriends. Including Jason Schwartzman, Kieran Culkin, Brandon Routh, and many other enticing actors, the buzz on this movie could not be better.

PLUS!!!! Edgar Wright is good friends with Jason Reitman (aka: director of Juno). Edgar shared the first 30 minutes of Scott Pilgrim with Jason, and Jason flew through the roof.

———————————————————————————————————————-

“In London, @edgarwright showed me 30min of Scott Pilgrim. While sworn to secrecy (so much, surprised blood wasn’t demanded) I will say this: It is a game changer for Edgar and the genre. It moves the speed of light and carries more unadulterated joy than Ive seen in recent cinema. I’m in awe of the sheer control in the filmmaking. It feels like a “Matrix” for love and how willing we are to fight for it. If I had a movie coming out next year, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near it. Hats off my friend. Can’t get it out of my head.

———————————————————————————————————————–

If Jason Reitman is ecstatic, I am at least excited! So, for my 2010 check list, this film is on the top.

Jason Schwartzman gave an amazing interview about this film with Collider.com

A bird has dropped a piece of baguette into outdoor machinery associated with the LHC, causing a technical fault. Was this the work of time-travelling bosons? If so, they’ve proved creative, if not competent: the incident did nothing to delay the run-up of the collider.

I just read one of the most fascinating articles I’ve ever read. The Large Hadron Collider, designed to replicate the conditions within a trillionth of a second after the Big Bang to attempt to find the elusive Higgs Boson has been plagued with bad luck. Two theoretical physicists are postulating that it is because to create a free Higgs Boson would be so anathema to the universe, the Higgs Boson (a quantum particle thought to imbue all matter with mass) is actually travelling back in time and influencing probability to ensure bad luck for the Collider.

Dr. Nielsen admits that he and Dr. Ninomiya’s new theory smacks of time travel, a longtime interest, which has become a respectable research subject in recent years. While it is a paradox to go back in time and kill your grandfather, physicists agree there is no paradox if you go back in time and save him from being hit by a bus. In the case of the Higgs and the collider, it is as if something is going back in time to keep the universe from being hit by a bus. Although just why the Higgs would be a catastrophe is not clear. If we knew, presumably, we wouldn’t be trying to make one.

We always assume that the past influences the future. But that is not necessarily true in the physics of Newton or Einstein. According to physicists, all you really need to know, mathematically, to describe what happens to an apple or the 100 billion galaxies of the universe over all time are the laws that describe how things change and a statement of where things start. The latter are the so-called boundary conditions — the apple five feet over your head, or the Big Bang.

The equations work just as well, Dr. Nielsen and others point out, if the boundary conditions specify a condition in the future (the apple on your head) instead of in the past, as long as the fundamental laws of physics are reversible, which most physicists believe they are.

“For those of us who believe in physics,” Einstein once wrote to a friend, “this separation between past, present and future is only an illusion.”

To quote Neils Bohr, “We are all agreed that your theory is crazy. The question that divides us is whether it is crazy enough to have a chance of being correct.”

Scientists warn that science is sabotaging itself!

Last year the most expensive and, some would argue, the most dangerous physics experiment ever conducted by scientists came to un-scheduled halt. The Large Hadron Collider wheezed out-of-action after an internal explosion.

Now in December, if all goes well the Large Hadron Collider will re-start smashing protons together in an underground speedway outside of Geneva.

The aim of the experiment is to discover the elements, particles and forces that were present at the point of the Big Bang which led to the formation of the universe.

The experiment will also attempt to shed more light on the attributes, indeed the very existence, of the fabled and still theoretical Higgs boson.

What is the Higgs boson? According to the Standard Model that rules almost all physics, the Higgs is a quantum particle that provides all other elementary particles with mass.

At that time, some scientists were concerned that the very actions of the LHC would actually succeed in creating a micro-black hole that would eventually annihilate the Earth itself. However things at the LHC never went to plan.

Two prominent scientists have advanced the theory that the Higgs boson is, itself, behind the catalogue of mishaps, mistakes and problems that have beset experiments of this type.

Danish string theory pioneer Holger Bech Nielsen and the Japanese physicist Masao Ninomiya say that the Higgs boson is able to manipulate us from the future to safeguard us from the catastrophe that is sure to happen were the LHC to succeed.

Apparently, among the many singular properties of the Higgs that the LHC is meant to predict could be the ability to turn back time to prevent it’s own discovery.

And this is NOT the first time the Higgs boson has meddled in human affairs. The Higgs has somehow influenced the US Congress into stopping funding for the SuperConducting Super Collider back in 1993, an event that shocked the scientific community as to be so unlikely that they characterised it as an ‘anti-miracle’.

The New York Times no less put it thus:

“the hypothesized Higgs boson… might be so abhorrent to nature that its creation would ripple backward through time and stop the collider before it could make one, like a time traveller who goes back in time to kill his grandfather.”

Dr Nielsen continues “It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck,”

The two scientists have proposed a test which may prove that the Higgs is extending it’s influence to us from the future. They advance that 100 million cards with a ‘yes’ or ‘hearts’ be made and then a few with ‘no’ or ‘clubs’ be inserted and then the pack be thoroughly mixed.

Pick a card. If the ‘no/clubs’ card comes up, then the Higgs is indicating that the LHC and other collider experiments should be stopped.

Seems fair enough to me.

Jackson Bishop at Collider noticed something funny at Box Office Mojo. The release date for “The Green Hornet” had suddenly been pushed back (yet again) to Dec. 17, but with little in the way of explanation. So, Drew McWeeny at Hitfix decided to ask star Seth Rogen upfront about the jump, and we get a little confirmation and explanation from him in the process after the jump:

“We’re both relieved and psyched about the change. It gives more time for post, which would have been immensely rushed if we were to come out in the summer. It also affords us more time to promote the film, (now we can go to Comic-Con with more than a car!) and ultimately is a great vote of confidence from the studio. We got the same date that movies like ‘I Am Legend’ and ‘Avatar’ are getting, so we’re thrilled to be there.”

Sounds good to me. As Jackson points out, the move from the previous July 7 date frees itself from landing in the middle of Cameron Diaz’s “Witchita” (July 2) and Nick Cage’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” (July16), who both signed on to star in “Hornet” recently.

As I mentioned, this isn’t the first bump in the road for The Black Beauty and co.

Via IMDB: Mirimax had tasked Kevin Smith to write and direct the film, but he pulled out due to the fact that the budget was much larger than he was used to. Eventually, Columbia Pictures purchased the rights and had Seth Rogen set to write and star. Stephen Chow was chosen to direct and star as Kato, The Green Hornet’s martial arts sidekick and driver, but he dropped out of directing and later starring. Finally, Michael Gondry was brought aboard to direct and he has been piecing the film back together ever since.

Gondry certainly brings alot to the table, having written and directed the excellent and critically acclaimed “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (93%) while also pulling double duty on “The Science of Sleep” (69%) and “Be Kind Rewind” (65%). However, none of these films are quite like a big-budget action film, so it should be interesting to see what Gondry does with “Hornet”.
