Kenneth Branagh’s adaption of Thor has a great cast already in place. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson to name but a few.

MTV Splash Page recently spoke with Natalie Portman, who was promoting her new film Brothers, and she revealed that Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) has a role in Thor as well.

“Well I’m really excited,” Portman told MTV News. “Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she’s a good friend and an amazing actress, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Variety has confirmed Dennings’ role in the film and is reporting that she will play Darcy, who works with Natalie Portman’s character, Jane Foster.

Thor is out on 20 May 2011.

At first, Clint Eastwood’s CHANGELING could appear to be following too closely in the footsteps of his earlier Oscar winner, MYSTIC RIVER, since both films center on a missing child. But while his previous film was based on a Dennis Lehane novel, CHANGELING carries a particular weight because it is based on a true story, and one that isn’t largely known. Angelina Jolie stars as Christine Collins, a single mother working in 1928 Los Angeles when her son goes missing. A boy is returned to her months later by the police, but she is shocked and disheartened when she realizes that the boy isn’t her son. Joined by a crusading pastor (John Malkovich), Christine battles for justice against the corrupt L.A.P.D. while she continues to search for her child. Eventually her fight against the cops lands her in a mental hospital, where she is surrounded by others with a similar plight. At times, CHANGELING is incredibly difficult to watch. Jolie gives an authentic, anguished performance, and the on-screen tragedy is quite disturbing, largely because of its basis in reality. But Eastwood has crafted another Oscar-worthy film that is certainly worth sitting through, even if a tissue or two is required. Screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski had been best known for his work in science fiction (BABYLON FIVE) and graphic novels, but he makes an adept transition to feature drama with this film. Its unusual focus–on the victim and her struggle for justice, rather than on the criminal and the crime–brings further depth to the film. As always, Amy Ryan (an Oscar nominee for GONE BABY GONE) perfectly morphs into her role (this time as a prostitute imprisoned in the mental hospital), and the film’s many child actors are compelling to watch.

Idris Elba is cool. That’s all you need to know. He was the ex-SAS bloke in the UK show Ultraviolet that saw him taking down Vampires, or leeches as he called them. Stateside you will know him mainly from The Wire. Plus he got to snog Beyonce in Obsessed. He is currently working on The Losers which is an adaption of the excellent DC Comic about special forces types on the run.

It looks as if he is on a comic book roll as Heat Vision have the news he has been cast in Marvel Studio’s Thor movie – not as a human character, but as the Asgardian known as Heimdall.

In the comic Heimdall is the brother of the warrior Sif. He is the all-seeing and all-hearing guardian sentry of Asgard, he stands on the rainbow bridge, Bifrost and stands watch for any attacks to Asgard. For ages, he stood as the guardian of Asgard, defending the city’s gates from any intruders, and was one of the most trusted servants of Odin.

He has also had a few battles with Thor in the comics either stopping him entering or leaving Asgard so I could well imagine we’ll see something like that in the film.

The movie follows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) a Norse God banished to Earth for his arrogance and reckless behavior in the Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods. On Earth, he falls in love with a nurse named Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), but must become a true hero when his sinister brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) brings the darkest forces of Asgard to wreak destruction on humanity. Directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet), the film co-stars Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Dominic Cooper, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano.

It is shaping up to be an amazing cast.

In an interview with USA Weekend, Zachary Levi (Chuck) revealed that he was cast as Fandral — a heroic adventurer who along with Hogun the Grim and Volstagg comprise the trio known as the Warriors Three — before being forced to back out of the role to fulfill his commitment to Chuck. All because an extra six episodes were ordered.

He also mentions that he audition for the role of Thor which surprised me. Not sure he would have worked as that character.

This is the first confirmation we have had that the Warriors Three will be appearing in Kenneth Branagh’s film. Dominic Cooper and Jude Law are both rumoured to be have been approached to star in the film and both would make a great Fandral. However, I think Levi with a goatee and ‘tache would have been excellent as the swashbuckling warrior – I imagine him as the Bruce Campbell character from Xena.

As for the rest of the Warriors Three, veteran actor Brian Blessed — previously rumoured to play Odin — could possibly play Volstagg. Imagine Blessed’s character from Flash Gordon, but without the wings and there you have it.

Hogun the Grim could possibly be portrayed by either Colm Feore (24, The Chronicles of Riddick) or Stellan Skarsgård (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), both of whom have been confirmed to appear in Thor in currently unannounced roles, although Feore is supposedly down to play a villain in the film.

Production Weekly reports that shooting on Marvel’s Thor is set to start in Los Angeles in mid-January. After that the production will “move to Santa Fe, New Mexico from March till late-April.”

This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Kenneth Branagh’s looking to add some more solid acting talent to Thor – Anthony Hopkins is jumping aboard to play the hero’s dad, Odin.

Yes, you’ve got to admire the eclectic cast that Branagh is building around Marvel’s Norse god hero (who will be played by Chris Hemsworth).

With Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Alexander and Colm Feore all confirmed as aboard, even if the film itself is a failure, the cast will be an intriguing blend.

And if the rumours that Robert De Niro and Jude Law have signed on ever turn out to be true (though that’s looking increasingly unlikely), we can’t wait to see this lot in action…

Anthony Hopkins. Pues si, el renombrado actor conocido mundialmente gracias a su magnifica interpretación del Doctor Hannibal “El Caníbal” Lecter en “El Silencio de los Corderos”, por la cual consiguió el Oscar en 1991, viajará a Asgard para convertirse en el dios Odín, padre de Thor.

La Marvel todavía no lo ha hecho oficial pero si Variety lo dice, es que algo de verdad hay en ello, por lo que en las próximas horas se hará oficial.

Me sorprende el reparto con el que se esta haciendo Kenneth Branagh para la película, ya que no hace mucho tiempo se rumoreo que tanto Jud Law como Robert De Niro se unirían al cast, rumor que se queda en rumor por ahora…

What do you think about Hopkins playing Odin?

I know it’s late but I’ve had a very busy weekend including June Stealth’s birthday party and catching up on all the Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? homework I missed. June Stealth is Lydia’s name on WordPress by the way. Anyway, I’ve mentioned all week, on Thursday I went to see Macbeth at the Festival Theatre in Stratford, Ontario as part of their annual Shakespeare Festival. Every semester my school offers trips to Stratford and I’ve only missed two semesters I think. If you’ll recall I went to see The Importance of Being Earnest last year and it still is my favourite play that I’ve seen in Stratford so far, but Macbeth is the best Shakespeare play I’ve seen so far.

Before the play everyone sat down in the theatre for a pre-show activity, in which volunteers got onstage and hurled insults from the play at each other (I didn’t go up there of course). It wasn’t really the most enjoyable thing, but at least it was better than having to wait an hour to be seated at a restaurant and wait to get our orders taken and then wait to actually get the food. It was very good for though. I had a burger and fries (there were quite a few sweet potato fries mixed in there, too. What a pleasant surprise!).

The play was modernised a little bit, by which I mean they used guns, a jeep, explosions, a character smoking (I forget who it was), and modern army uniforms, but everything else was intact. It worked very well actually and I was really impressed. The Weird Sisters of course were my favourite part but they always have been every since I studies the play last year in English class. But the entire cast was fantastic!

Oh, speaking of the cast, if you haven’t been keeping up with my tweets you’ll have missed my two hints regarding the famous actor who played the role of Macbeth: 1) He is Canadian, 2) He has appeared on the hit show 24. Give up? It was the one and only…

That’s right! He’s been in such films as City of Angels, The Perfect Son, Pearl Harbour, The Sum of all Fears, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. He also played Cassius alongside Denzel Washington in a Broadway production of Julius Caesar, another of Shakespeare’s greatest works. He did an incredible job as Macbeth and that is so much of an understatement it’s not even funny!

The Times-Picayune is reporting that Warner Bros. is set to begin shooting the Green Lantern in New Orleans. The Martin Campbell directed feature recently pulled out of Australia due to the rising cost of the Australian dollar. The movie had been mooted to be moving to Canada but Warner Bros. seems to have taken a liking to New Orleans having recently filmed Jonah Hex there.

An official at Second Line Studios in New Orleans has confirmed that the producers have signed a non-refundable contract to rent stage space to the production. The production is set to occupy Second Line’s sound stages in December with construction crews beginning to build the sets, while principal photography would begin in March and to continue through to July or August.

In other Green Lantern related stories Ain’t It Cool News is reporting an interesting rumour that Jackie Earle Haley (who played Rorschach in Watchmen and is taking over the role of Freddy Krueger in the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street) is the first choice to play Green Lantern villain Sinestro.

Sinestro, for those unfamiliar with the comic, is the former mentor of Hal Jordan who grows tired with the bureaucracy of the Green Lantern Corps and sets about trying to make the universe adhere to his will, thus becoming the arch-nemesis of the entire Green Lantern Corps. He is easily the most important bad-guy in the Green Lantern series and was voted 15th overall in IGN’s top 100 villains.

The site is also reporting that Superman may make a cameo appearance in the movie too!

Green Lantern, with Ryan Reynolds as the titular ring-toting hero, is scheduled to be released on June 17th 2011.

More superhero movie rumours with word again from Ain’t It Cool News that Valkyrie actor Matthias Schweighöfer told the German edition of GQ magazine that he’s in the running for a role in Thor and that Jude Law and Robert De Niro have also joined the cast. The 3 would be set to play the Warriors Three in director Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of the Marvel comic-book character.

Alternatively, Movieline recently interviewed Mamma Mia star Dominic Cooper for Lone Scherfig’s An Education and found that he was preparing to audition for a role in Thor. The interviewer asked Cooper whether he’d been approached for the role of Fandral the Dashing, one of the Warriors Three.

The Warriors Three are a group of fictional characters who served as supporting cast members in Thor and are made up of the Asgardians Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg.

In any instance Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard are already cast in the comic-book adaptation scheduled for a release on May 20th 2011.

Según el actor Matthias Schweighöfer (Valkyrie), en estos días está ultimando su llegada al reparto de Thor en un papel del que no ha desvelado detalles pero del que ha apuntado ser el preferido de Kenneth Branagh para el mismo. Es muy probable que Branagh conozca a la perfección los métodos del intérprete, ya que fue compañero del mismo en el reparto del thriller bélico de Bryan Singer. Como ocurrió con el fichaje de Tom Hiddelston (con el que coincidió en la interesantísima miniserie Wallander), parece que el artista prefiere confiar en actores con los que ha trabajado en su faceta como intérprete. Schweighöfer también ha revelado que los actores Jude Law y Robert De Niro se han unido ya al reparto de la película, aunque esta información por el momento no ha sido confirmada por ningún responsable de Marvel. Las dos estrellas se unirían a Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson y Stellan Skarsgard en lo que sería un aún más impresionante elenco, difícil de comparar con otra producción de la casa.
