Comingsoon.net has posted the first pictures for Warner Bros. Pictures’ two new comic book adaptation films The Losers and Jonah Hex.

Jonah Hex opens up in theaters nationwide on June 18, 2010 and stars Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men), John Malkovich (Burn After Reading), Megan Fox (Transformers), Will Arnett (Arrested Development) and Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road).

Jonah Hex is about a scarred bounty hunter tracks a voodoo practitioner bent on liberating the South by raising an army of the undead in the Wild West.

The Losers opens in theaters nationwide on April 9, 2010 and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Supernatural), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Idris Elba (Obsessed), Columbus Short (Stomp The Yard), Holt McCallany (Alpha Dog), Oscar Jaenada (Che: Part Two), Jason Patric (My Sister’s Keeper) and Peter Macdissi (Six Feet Under).

The Losers is about members of a CIA black ops team root out those who targeted them for assassination after being betrayed and left for dead.

Día de primeras imágenes oficiales, en este caso presentadas por partida doble y cortesía de un mismo responsable, la Warner Bros., quién en ambas cintas adapta un material de la DC Comics, quiénes ante el reinado de la Marvel ha pisado el acelerador en sacar partido del mismo más allá de los personajes de Batman y Superman.

Primero, tenemos la presencia de Josh Brolin como el desfigurado anti-héroe ‘Jonah Hex‘ ; y por otro lado, tenemos al nutrido grupo de protagonistas de ‘The Losers‘.

‘The Losers‘ es la adaptación del cómic creado por Andy Diggle y dibujado por Jock para Vertigo, filial de DC Comics. ‘Los Perdedores’, que es como se le conoce en nuestro país, narra las aventuras de una unidad de Fuerzas Especiales de Estados Unidos formado por Clay, Chucho, Roque, Jemsen, Pooch y Cougar, quiénes se dedican a limpiar todos los trapos sucios del gobierno, hasta que un buen día un supuesto agente de la C.I.A. llamado Max les envía a una misión con la verdadera intención de intentar matarlos… Dados por muertos, estos deciden dejar pasar un tiempo para volver y vengarse de sus antiguos jefes. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Chris Evans, Columbus Short, Jason Patric, Zoe Saldana y nuestro Oscar Jaenada son los protagonistas de esta esperada producción de la Warner Bros. en rodaje pero que aun carece de fecha de estreno.

‘Jonah Hex‘ se estrenará el próximo 16 de Junio en Estados Unidos, siendo una de las grandes apuestas de la Warner de cara a la temporada estival. Esta adaptación del western creado por el escritor John Albano y el artista Tony DeZuniga creado en 1972, cuenta con un reparto encabezado por Josh Brolin como el personaje central, un desfigurado y amargado ex-oficial confederado que se gana la vida como cazarecompensas y sin miedo a nada ni nadie, y al que acompañan John Malkovich como el villano de la función y la sexy Megan Fox. El argumento de la cinta gira entorno a que, por un lado, Jonah Hex será contratado para dar caza a Quentin Turnbull, mientras que por el otro a él mismo le han puesto precio a su cabeza.

The photo of the team at the top fills me full of hope for this one as it is pretty much how the team looks in the comic.

Ayer hablábamos del papel de la espectacular Zoe Saldana en Los Perdedores y hoy, cosas del destino, tenemos las primeras imágenes de la película. The Losers adapta el cómic de mismo título, y tiene como protagonistas a un grupo de agentes del gobierno norteamericano especializados en operaciones encubiertas, que son traicionados por sus jefes (tras descubrir las nada patrióticas motivaciones de dichos políticos) y marcados como objetivo de todo mercenario, asesino y pistolero viviente a sueldo de las barras y estrellas. Desde ese momento toca escapar y, mientras cuidan sus espaldas, intentar hacer la puñeta a sus corruptos superiores en una misión casi suicida. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, Holt McCallany, Oscar Jaenada, Jason Patric y Peter Macdissi forman el molón reparto a las órdenes de Sylvain White. Collins Pennie and Pooch Hall will be starring in the sequel “Stomp The Yard 2: Homecoming.” According to Black Voices Hall plays the leader of the Theta Nu Theta frat, that welcomes Pennie’s skills to the team, but his authority is challenged. While Pennie plays a dancer from the rough side of Tallahassee, FL. Pennie goes to Truth U in the ATL to get away from gangsters and better himself. Shooting is set to start next month in Atlanta. And Columbus Short is rumored to be in the movie as his previous character DJ.

Is it just me or is this the same story as the first movie?

Regina King, Tracee Ellis Ross, Columbus Short and Queen Latifah posed for pics during the 4th Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards at the New York Times Center this weekend.  Columbus looks mighty comfortable sandwiched between all that flesh.  Plenty more pics await your perusal….

The Losers is directed by Sylvian White and also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Supernatural) as the leader Clay, Idris Elba (Ultraviolet, Obsessed) is his second-in-command Roque, Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Push) as Jensen, Oscar Jaenada (The Limits of Control) as Cougar and Columbus Short as Pooch. Aisha is the lone female member of the betrayed intelligence operatives.

Writer of the comic Andy Diggle, recently visited the Puerto Rico-based production set and describes the character as “Aisha has to be deadly and desirable in equal measure, and Zoe embodies both qualities in spades,” Diggle said of the actress and her character. “Trust me, you’ve never seen her kick ass the way she does in ‘The Losers’!”

“O novo filme de Beckinsale e frio como o gelo da Antártida”

Jeito estranho de começar uma crítica não?, mas depois de vê-lo não soube se tinha muito o que comentar a respeito se não simplesmente chamá-lo de ridículo. O diretor já não e dos melhores (Dominic Sena), cujo melhor filme no currículo é o mediano Swordfish – A senha com Hugh Jackman e John Travolta. Agora, pegue um diretor mediano, um elenco meia boca de filmes de ação, roteiristas iniciantes (não de forma geral) e faça-os caçar (antes fosse) investigar um assassino na antártida. numa boa – resultado bom disso não sai. Antes mesmo do meio do filme o sono impera, não fosse a primeira e barulhenta luta de Kate contra o tal assassino, eu não teria mas acordado para ver o resto. Tisk Tisk.

Se tem alguma qualidade a ser elogiada são as locações realizadas no Canadá que realmente, fazem bonito representando a antártida, 100% convincente – bom se isso fosse motivo para levar pessoas ao cinema estaria no mínimo aceitável.

Os roteiristas demonstram total falta de criatividade aqui, nem mesmo pensaram em criar pequenas cenas que despertassem no mínimo uma certa curiosidade. Nem mesmo no final do filme capricharam, a revelação do tal assassino do gelo não é tão ridícula, mas e fraquíssima – e o individuo ainda da uma de ‘Caçadores de Emoção’ em seu último ato – Egh.

No roteiro vem incluso flashbacks que mostram o trauma passado e consequentemente os motivos que levaram a detetive ‘Carrie’ a antártida, talvez uma faixada para abranger os detalhes do filme, ou simplesmente um ato desesperado para desenvolver a pobre personalidade de sua principal. E me pergunto também, como Kate quis parecer uma detetive se ficava a todo momento fazendo pose de modelo? puf.

Alguns tarados vão ate gostar da cena de Kate se inclinando de calcinha para ligar o chuveiro – agora te pergunto, pra que? se o filme quisesse mesmo se levar a sério não iria incluir tal cena desnecessária e claramente apelativa — e se eu dissesse que a cena nem chega a excitar? vai me chamar de viado? – Bah. Dane-se – Filme horrível.

Darnell Martin’s Cadillac Records takes a look at the music industry from the 1940s to the 1960s, following Leonard Chess and his Chess Records in a fictionalized account of what things were like when the game was changing rapidly in Chicago. The movie is ensemble style, using a rather large and famous cast to put some truly remarkable legends of music on screen.

Martin, who was the first African-American woman to direct and produce a film for a major studio with 1994’s I Like It Like That, handles the subjects ably but sometimes things feel a little too crowded and hard to follow. That doesn’t take away from the fact that there are some really solid performances in this motion picture, however, and the music is just flat-out fantastic.

Adrien Brody stars as Leonard Chess, the co-founder of 1950s record label Chess Records. Located in Chicago, Chess Records would become the iconic record company of such stars as Etta James (Beyoncé Knowles), Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright), Chuck Berry (Mos Def), Howlin’ Wolf (Eamonn Walker), Little Walter (Columbus Short), and other top stars of the era.

Cadillac Records deals with the launching of the record company and the various relationships and entanglements in its operation, following the rise and fall of some truly great musicians along the way. It also does well to highlight the rise of black music at the time and the reluctance of some DJs and clubs to play it. There are also some interesting dynamics, such as the relationship between Chess and Waters, that help give the movie more substance.

At the end of the day, though, it’s hard to say that Cadillac Records is more than just another musical biopic. Knowles is the movie’s best performer and her Etta James is fantastic. She delivers a performance of grit and heartache, proving that she is a consummate performer with the will to deliver with the very best in the biz. Her covers of a few James songs are also great, nearly topping her work in the excellent Dreamgirls.

The problems with Cadillac Records largely arise with its full cast and in maintaining interest in all the various supporting characters. While Knowles does bump up the energy when she turns up as James, her role adds more unnecessary complexity to the already crowded plot and gives us one more thing to be concerned with. It becomes less about the music and the history of Chess Records and more about the relationships and near-relationships behind-the-scenes.

Some of the performances are less than good, too, starting with Brody as Leonard Chess. While I am normally impressed with his work on screen, Brody doesn’t do much here. His character is bland and boring, for the most part, He doesn’t do much with the role, which was originally designed as a Matt Dillon part before scheduling complications prevented the casting from taking place.

Even so, Cadillac Records is still worth a look and a listen for a relatively entertaining look at the time when music changed. Chess Records represents an important part in music history in America and Martin’s look at the subject, while incomplete, is convincing and enjoyable enough to check out. Plus, Knowles is just awesome.

Lo sceriffo federale americano Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale) ha sotto la propria giurusdizione l’Antartide e sta concludendo il suo mandato presso la base di ricerca Amundsen-Scott. Tuttavia a pochi giorni dal termine della sua attività,affiancata dal detective dell’ONU Robert Pryce (Gabriel Macht)  si ritroverà ad indagare su uno strano omicidio avvenuto tra i ghiacci, il primo di una lunga serie, ad opera di un killer senza scrupoli deciso a tutto per proteggere segreti rimasti sepolti per anni…

Dominic Sena si ispira alla grafic novel Whiteout- Incubo bianco realizzata da Greg Rucka e Steve Lieber, ma ne fa un prodotto completamente diverso dalla fonte.  Il prodotto finale è un thriller scialbo e prevedibilissimo, in cui l’assassino si intuisce ancora prima che avvenga l’omicidio…

Le uniche note positive sono rappresentate dallo scenario che fa da sfondo alla storia, questa enorme distesa bianca, spazzata da venti fortissimi e da continue tempeste di neve, i cosiddetti Whiteout, temperature che scendono fino a -120 gradi,  che crea un’atmosfera di alterità, di estraneità, e rende la pellicola un minimo interessante; il secondo aspetto positivo è dato dal cast, con Kate Beckinsale sempre a suo agio nei ruoli da “tosta”, Greg Macht protagonista di The Spirit, Columbus Short, protagonista di Stepping-Dalla strada al palcoscenico, e il bravissimo Tom Skerritt, nei panni di Doc, il dottor John Fury, medico della base. Un cast di ottimo livello a servizio di una pellicola che purtroppo fa acqua da tutte le parti.

La pellicola è stata un flop ai botteghini americani e non sembra fare meglio anche qui da noi. Si pensava a questo film come al primo capitolo di una trilogia, ma visti i risultati è quasi sicuro che tale progetto resterà solo sulla carta.

In definitiva una pellicola molto deludente.

Conclusione: Da evitare.
