Google WAVE. What is it? How is it? Where is it? Why ? When ? What is Google wave? ” Google

Google WAVE.

What is it?

How is it?

Where is it?

Why ?

When ?

What is Google wave?

” Google Wave is a real-time communication platform. It combines aspects of email, instant messaging, wikis, web chat, social networking, and project management to build one elegant, in-browser communication client. You can bring a group of friends or business partners together to discuss how your day has been or share files.

Google Wave has a lot of innovative features, but here are just a few:

- Real-time: In most instances, you can see what someone else is typing, character-by-character.

- Embeddability: Waves can be embedded on any blog or website.

- Applications and Extensions: Just like a Facebook application or an iGoogle gadget, developers can build their own apps within waves. They can be anything from bots to complex real-time games.

- Wiki functionality: Anything written within a Google Wave can be edited by anyone else, because all conversations within the platform are shared. Thus, you can correct information, append information, or add your own commentary within a developing conversation.

- Open source: The Google Wave code will be open source, to foster innovation and adoption amongst developers.

- Playback: You can playback any part of the wave to see what was said.

- Natural language: Google Wave can autocorrect your spelling, even going as far as knowing the difference between similar words, like “been” and “bean.” It can also auto-translate on-the-fly.

- Drag-and-drop file sharing: No attachments; just drag your file and drop it inside Google Wave and everyone will have access. “

How is it??

I am one of the lucky few to have been invited early on for Google Wave Preview. I was really pleased with what i saw.

I haven’t encountered any bugs or glitches as of now. I still think inviting more people for the preview would help Google Wave improvise. I haven’t had enough time to ride the WAVE But from what i have explored I feel it is surely a Game Changer.

With WAVE you will surely be using some new lingo such as :

“ Wave: A wave, specifically, refers to a specific threaded conversation. It can include just one person, or it can include a group of users or even robots (explained below). The best comparison I can make is that it’s like your entire instant messaging (IM) history with someone. Anything you’ve ever discussed in a single chat or conversation is a wave.

- Wavelet: A wavelet is also a threaded conversation, but only a subset of a larger conversation (or a wave). It’s like a single IM conversation – a small part of a larger conversation and a larger history. Wavelets, though, can be created and managed separately from a wave.

- Blip: Even smaller than a Wavelet, a Blip is a single, individual message. It’s like a single line of an IM conversation. Blips can have other blips attached to them, called children. In addition, blips can either be published or unpublished (once again, it’s sort of like typing out an IM message but not yet sending it).

- Document: A document actually refers to the content within a blip. This seems to refer to the actual characters, words, and files associated with a blip.

- Extension: An extension is a mini-application that works within a wave. So these are the apps you can play with while using Wave. There are two main types of extenisons: Gadgets and Robots

- Gadgets: A gadget is an application users can participate with, many of which are built on Google’s OpenSocial platform. A good comparison would be iGoogle gadgets or Facebook applications.

- Robots: Robots are an automated participant within a wave. They can talk with users and interact with waves. They can provide information from outside sources (i.e.Twitter) or they can check content within a wave and perform actions based on them (i.e. provide you a stock quote if a stock name is mentioned).

- Embeded Wave: An embeded wave is a way to take a Google Wave and the conversation within it and place it on your website. Users could use this as a chatroom, as a way to contact you, or for something more. “

Where is it??

Right now it is with just a few 100000+ users & the 8 invites that they have. So if you are lucky like me you could be riding the wave or else you would have to wait like the billions of users who have signed up and waiting for an invite.

Why?

Google WAVE is the brainchild of the same people who created Google Maps. I think the main reason was to use the leap frog tactic. The e-mail which is one of the most used feature of the internet has now become a commodity every portal can offer similar features and it has kind of reached a saturation point ( how do i know this ?? Cos companies started offering skins, themes to users.. so here the focus has moved from product to customer to be innovative) What was innovative in Gmail by embedding Gtalk has been copied by Yahoo. Hotmail seems to be going nowhere but southwards. Even though Gmail seems to be growing it needs to grow faster and bigger.. why? The reason is simple Google’s Business is Advertisement and Google wave is a platform where users come together for a live session hence targeted advertisements to the group than the individual. ( Imagine this.. Group of friends sharing a Youtube video review of a latest Gadget through WAVE .. The advertisement on Youtube is now being viewed by the group than a single individual which will generate more revenue to Google… I dunno if Google had thought about this.. but i think that will eventually be done)

Its open source too

As per what Mashable reports ” WAVE powered forums, WAVE powered commenting system,WAVE for content management system, WAVE for customer support & WAVE for Education are some of the future spaces for Google WAVE”

When ?? When will it be available to all??

If all things go as per planned and well maybe by 2010 we can expect a new way of communication that moves over from four decade old emails. So my prediction is that by end of 2009 Dec or 2010 Jan Google WAVE should be live … if ….there’s always an IF….IF the preview works out ;p

The Kabbalah is a practical system for understanding all aspects of our lives, from the deepest spiritual connections to the everyday experience of living in the modern world. At the core of the spiritual teachings of the Western world, the ancient mysteries of the Kabbalah are now more relevant than ever. Based on an effective map of consciousness called the Tree of Life, the Kabbalah has the potential to enhance the quality of life for individuals as well as the societies in which they live. Blending traditional teachings with psychological understanding, The Complete Guide to the Kabbalah reveals the age-old mysteries of the Tree of Life, explaining how the Kabbalah can help you understand the connections among all the different events, ideas, and relationships in your life; work from the heart as well as from the intellect; and open yourself to the rich resources of your own inner wisdom. See details

What makes a great social media name? Here are eight key principles that every person who is getting into social media or blogging should consider in this new web 2.0 world:

• 18 characters or less will generally allow you to keep your screenname consistent.

• You generally want to keep it the same across platforms so people can easily find you.

• Your name should convey your identity if possible. This helps for identity, community, and SEO.

• Make it intersting. Make it sing. Make it memorable.

• Generally aim for the niche. Can you say long tail?

• Catchy, funny, or cool.

• Consider creating a separate e-mail address for social media and blogging. Again screenname consistency can be helpful.

• Consider changing your instant messaging identity to reflect your new identity.

Thoughts? Additions or amendments?

Parragon Publishing

ISBN 1-4542-216-5

This guide has four main sections: pilates, yoga, meditation and stress relief. Following are an excerpt from each section:

1) Pilates: “Pilates exercises have been designed to work the muscles of the body as efficiency as possible in the minimum time. These low-impact exercises treat the body as a whole and are very effective. There is therefore no need to spend hours each day at the gym: you need to practice only two to three times a week, and can start with 10-minute sessions and build up to longer ones slowly.”

Included in the pilates section are guidance in correct breathing, how pilates works, what to wear, learning how to centr the body, the importance of good posture, getting into motion exercises, standing and sitting exercises, and exercises on a mat.

2) Yoga: “By allocating time every day to a sequence of yoga postures, you can help to purge the mind and body, and achieve a state of deep relaxation. This can result in greater self-esteem, because you will have a sense of achievement and an inner calm that will help to dispel the worries of the day. The deep breathing and physical exercise required for yoga will help you to deal with a raft of complaints, such as pain of the joints and muscles, anxiety, stress, postural problesm, and bowel tone and function problems.”

Included in the yoga section are the five principles of yoga (relaxation, exercise, breath control, a nourishing diet, and positive thinking and meditation. Also added are guidelines for practicing yoga, the seven chakras of the astral body, yogic breathing, warming up exercises, the standing postures, seated exercises, improving focus with the balancing postures, opening the heart and strengthiening the back, and the inverted postures.

3) Meditation: “There is no doubt that the mind’s ability to analyze, discriminate, plan and communicate has helped us reach where we are today. Yet it can be a double-edged sword. Although the brain may help us to reason, to think creatively, and to relate to others, if we don not learn to switch it off it can overwhelm us. It can persecute us with fears about failure, our appearance, or the opinions others may have of us. Meditation can bring relief from those anxieties by helping us to silence inner chatter, to recognize and dismiss negative thoughts, and to create a feeling of peace and serenity.”

Included in the meditation section are suggestions for finding time to meditate, preparing to meditate, postures and breathing, relaxation, affirmations, mantras, standing and walking meditation, the chakras, visualization, meditation for healing, color and light, the power of sound, and meditations for stressful situations.

4) Stress relief: “For long-term stress relief and optimum well-being you need periods of mental and physical relaxation throughout the day. Relaxation is a set of easily learned skills that will teach you how to combat the effects of stress and restore the balance between body and mind to enable healthy, happy living.”

Included in the stress relief section are a strategy for relaxation, relaxing your body, breathing, reducing muscle tension, massage, restoring vital energy, relaxing mind and spirit, meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, self-hypnosis, autogenic training, biofeedback, improving self-worth, setting goals, going with the flow, living for the moment, positive commuting, freedo frm fear, relationships, diet, exercise, the world of work, relaxing at home, the world around you, getting a good night’s sleep, and natural remedies for relaxation.
