Step 1: Install Firmware Updates & Backup Data

Before you begin to install Windows 7 on your Mac, install the latest software updates on your Mac, and for the peripherals connected. To download updates, click the “Apple” icon on the home screen and select “Software Updates”. Afterwards, back up your data to an external hard drive or using an online data backup solution. Since you will be formatting your Mac hard drive to create a new partition for Windows 7, you should back up your data to avoid data losses.

Step 2: Locate and Open Boot Camp

Click the Finder button and search for “Boot Camp”. Click the “Boot Camp Assistant” from search results. On the Boot Camp Assistant screen, click <Continue>.

Step 3: Create a Partition on Mac OS X Hard Drive

On the Create a Partition for Windows screen, you can see the current allocation of the space for both Mac and Windows. You should now allocate the appropriate space (more than 30GB would be good) to Windows 7 by dragging the divider to the left hand side of the box. If you allocate less than 30-35GB space to Windows 7, you may leave no room for software update installations and other things, ultimately experiencing crash or other severe problems. Click the <Partition> button to let a partition be created on the hard drive. It should take a while and a new Boot Camp drive will be placed on the home screen of your Mac.

Step 4: Insert Windows 7 DVD in the Drive

Now insert your Windows 7 DVD into the drive of your Mac (if you are using a Macbook which doesn’t have a DVD/CD drive, download the bootable ISO image of Windows 7 to a USB drive and then insert it) and reboot your Mac. It shall take a while and then you should be directed to Start Windows Installation screen. On this screen, click the <Start Installation> button. When prompted, select the newly created Boot Camp Partition from the list and then click the <Drive options (advanced)> button.

Step 5: Format Boot Camp Partition

Now select the BOOTCAMP partition (if it’s not already selected though it’ll be automatically selected) and then click the <Format> button. It’ll take a while and prompt you to click <OK>. Click OK and then Windows 7 will prepare to install.

Step 6: Install Windows 7 Now

On the Install Windows screen, select your language, Time & currency format, and keyboard or input method and then click <Next>. Click <Install Now> on the next screen. Wait while Windows setup is starting. On the next screen, accept the license agreement and click <Next>. On the next screen, select <Custom (advanced)> option instead of <Upgrade> and click <Next>. Afterwards, click the BOOTCAMP drive, click <Disk options (advanced)>, click <Format>, click <OK> and then click <Next>. Windows 7 now will be preparing to install software updates and other miscellaneous files etc. When prompted, set up a user account for Windows 7 and then begin. Follow rest of the instructions and complete the setup procedure. Wait while Windows 7 installs software updates. When done, you can begin to use your brand new Windows 7 on your Mac computer.

Step 4: Run Windows Repair Utility

Pop the Windows 8 installation media in to the drive of your machine and boot it. When prompted, click <Troubleshooting>, click <Advanced Options>, and then click <Automatic Repair>. Windows Repair utility will now automatically scan for problems and fix them. If the utility is unable to fix all the errors, move on to the next step.

Step 5: Refresh Windows 8

Pop the Windows 8 media in the drive and boot your computer. Navigate to <Troubleshooting>, click <Advanced Options>, <Settings>, and type “Refresh your PC” in the search bar. Now tap/click <Get Started> right below <Refresh your PC without affecting files> and click <Next>. When done, your Windows 8 PC should be fine and without all the third-party software. You can reinstall any third-party software which was removed during this procedure. When done, remove the Windows 8 media and boot your computer.

Step 1: Re-position Your Netgear Router

If your Netgear router is placed far away from the devices connected to it over the Wi-Fi network, its Wi-Fi signals may not be reaching all of them eloquently. To deal with this problem, try to place your Netgear centrally (in the center of all devices) as much as possible (though it won’t be possible in many conditions like if you have a crowded house or office). Besides, point the antennas of your Netgear router upward for the better signal strength and also avoid connection drops. You must also make sure that your Netgear router is away from electrical interferences emitted by security alarms, Microwaves, fax machines, phones, and other such electrical appliances. Your Wi-Fi network may also get interrupted by other Wi-Fi networks in your neighborhood, causing it to go slow or completely down. To fix this problem, you should use a channel number which is not widely used in your neighboring area. You can use the channel number 5, 11, or other such strong channels suggested by Netgear in its Netgear router support manual.

Step 2: Upgrade Your Internet Connection

If you are using a cable Internet connection, you tend to face slow speed issues no matter if you have a brand new Netgear router with advanced features. You can ask your ISP to upgrade your Internet connection to ADSL to experience faster speeds whether over a Wi-Fi network or a wired one. ADSL connections are really faster than cable connections and hence offer faster speeds. For an ADSL connection, you might have to shell out more but it’ll be worth for a better experience.

Step 3: Set Up an Access Point

If you have more than one Netgear router or a third-party router, you can make it an access point and use it to speed up and cover for your primary Netgear router. Access points, also called base stations, help offer extended coverage with the help of a router. An access point helps a router subside its burden of delivering networking capabilities and Wi-Fi signals to all the devices in a house or office by working as a mobile tower. You can reposition an access point for maximum speed and outstanding capabilities. If you don’t have another router which you can convert in to an access point, buy one from the market.

Step 4: Upgrade Netgear Router Drivers

Since your Netgear router is a hardware device which is working with your computer or other devices, it is essential to update its driver software regularly and when the updates are available. Like your computer and other devices like gaming console, TV, Roku etc. need the latest updates and patches for better performance and long life, your Netgear router also needs updated driver software to work with them and work properly as a standalone device. You can update your Netgear router drivers either through Windows Update or Mac Software Updates (if you are using a Mac). You can also download the driver software directly from the Netgear website.

Step 5: Open Ports for Devices

You can login to your Netgear router’s web interface and open up ports for devices and people you would like to connect with your network. For example you want to connect your gaming console and want other users to join the network, you can simply open up ports for it for better connectivity and speed. You can also assign a static IP address instead of a dynamic one and the slow speed problem should be fixed.

Step 6: Change the MTU Byte Size

Open up your web browser and type <192.168.1.1> in its address bar. Hit Enter on the keyboard to proceed. When prompted, enter your router login username and password and click <OK>. Click <WAN Setup> in the left hand pane and then lower the MTU byte size by as much as 100 or 200. You can see the change in speed now. If the SPI Firewall is enabled, you can disable it for maximum throughput. When done, click the <Apply> button and then exit the router interface.

P.S. You may also think of downgrading the router encryption type from WPA to WEP. Though it may increase the throughput but it may also add to the security risks and issues.

Step 1: Locate & Remove Any Previous Office Edition

In most of the Bootstrapper errors it has been observed that the existence of a beta/previous Office edition plays as the disturbing/err element. So cancel the installation of Office 2013 and look for its beta version or a previous Office edition in <Programs and Features> in Windows 7 or Windows 8. You can use the Start Search bar in Windows 7 to search for “Programs and Features”. If you are using Windows 8, press the <Windows> key and start typing “Programs and Features”. Under “Programs and Features”, look for Microsoft Office entry, select it and then click <Uninstall>. When prompted, confirm the action and follow rest of the on-screen prompts to completely get Microsoft Office rid of your computer. When prompted, restart your computer to complete the uninstallation.

Though it’s not binding but you can run a registry cleaner to clean up any leftover registry entries, and keys and subkeys etc. of the uninstalled Microsoft Office program. Before you run the registry cleanup, backup your Windows Registry to undo any unfavorable changes. You should also find and delete all Microsoft Office files from Windows Explorer and other locations. Thereafter you can begin with the Office 2013 installation again.

P.S. Do not forget to make hidden files & folders show up in the Folder Options. Doing so will help you locate all the hidden Microsoft Office installer files and folders required for deletion.

Step 2: Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily

As said above it is a natural behavior of an antivirus program or a firewall application to scan and block any executable file considering it the potential carrier of a malicious infection. So stop the installation of Office 2013 and disable the real-time scanning feature in your antivirus program temporarily. If you have a firewall (third-party), disable it temporarily. You should also disable Windows Firewall to let the Office installation file run properly. Once you have disabled your antivirus/firewall program, re-run the Office installation file and no Bootstrapper error should come up again.

Step 3: Install Office in Clean Boot Mode

Bring up the Run utility by pressing the <Windows> + <R> keys simultaneously on the keyboard. Type “msconfig” in the blank field and hit <OK>.  In the System Configuration Utility window, highlight the <Boot> tab and deselect the <Safe Boot> option. Now highlight the <General> tab, check the <Selective startup> box, and uncheck the <Load startup items> box. Now highlight the <Services> tab, select the <Hide all Microsoft services> option, and click the <Disable all> button. Now click the <Startup> tab, click <Open Task Manager>. On the Task Manager window, right-click each enabled startup item and click <Disable>. Click <OK> and then select <Restart>. All third-party software and services including startup programs will be disabled now, helping you to run the installation file error-free. When done, locate the Office 2013 installation file and run it. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation. When prompted, restart your computer normally.

Step 4: Install the Latest Software Updates

Make sure that you are running the latest Windows updates and additional software updates for the connected peripherals etc. Outdated applications may pose errors during the installation procedure. So stop the installation and then download and install the latest Windows updates for your Windows OS and other software installed on your computer. When done installing all updates, disconnect all peripherals and then begin with the Office installation procedure again.

Step 5: Modify Windows Registry

Locate and remove the “AppCompatFlags” registry key from Windows Registry. Open Registry Editor by typing “regedit” in the “Run” box and clicking “OK”. When Registry Editor opens, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Microsoft> Windows NT> CurrentVersion> AppCompatFlags. Before you delete “AppCompatFlags”, you should back up it. To back up the “AppCompatFlags” key, right click it and click “Export”. This will open up the Import and Export wizard. Back up this key and when done, right click “AppCompatFlags” and select “Delete”. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the action. Exit Registry Editor and then begin with the Office 2013 installation again.

Step 1:

Make sure that Skype is running normally and not in the compatibility mode. In the compatibility mode, Skype would probably crash and not function properly. The current Skype version supports Windows 8/7/Vista and XP but not earlier versions. If you upgraded your Windows to any of the latest version and then started experiencing problems, make sure that Skype is running in normal mode.

To do so, first close the Skype window and then navigate to C:\ drive>, Program Files>, Skype>, Phone if you are running a 32-bit system. If you are running a 64-bit Windows machine, navigate to C:\ drive>, Program Files (x86)>, Skype> Phone. In the Phone folder, look for Skype.exe file, right click it and select “Properties”. In the Properties window, click the “Compatibility” tab and uncheck the box beside “Run this program in compatibility mode for” option. Click “OK” to save changes. Afterwards launch Skype and start running it.

Step 2:

Get the latest Skype version offered through Windows Update and the Skype crash problem should be resolved. If you are unable to install the latest version through Windows updates as it fails, visit the Skype website and then download the latest/beta version. Sometimes when you try to upgrade to Skype through Windows updates you receive error messages or find that the updates fail to go through. In that case it is always better to download the latest version from the Skype website and get it working.

Step 3:

If Skype continues to crash, you can reset its settings and get it working again. First right click the Skype icon in the system tray and select “Quit”. If prompted, confirm the action.  Open Windows Task Manager by right clicking anywhere on the taskbar and selecting Task Manager from the menu. On the Task Manager window, click the “Processes” tab and look for “Skype.exe” process. Select the process and then click the “End Process” button. If you are running Windows XP or Vista, click Start> Run and type “%appdata%”. Hit Enter to open Application Data. If you are running Windows 7, type the same text in the Start Search bar and open Application Data. Look for the Skype folder, right click it and select “Rename”. Rename the Skype folder to something else. Exit Windows Explorer and close any other opened window. Launch Skype again and it should work fine.

Step 4:

Clear browser cache, cookies, saved passwords and other web history from your browser and the computer itself. When done clearing the web history, reset the browser to default settings and Skype should not crash anymore. Step 5:

If you are still facing problems running Skype, remove Skype files and folders and then restart your computer. To do so, quit Skype from the system tray, open Application Data (check Step 3), and open the Skype folder. In the Skype folder, look for the “Shared.XML” file, right click it and select “Delete”. If prompted, confirm the action and exit all the windows. Restart your computer and a new “Shared.XML” file will be automatically created when you log in again. This should resolve the Skype crash problems which occur due to corrupt Skype files and folders.

Step 6:

Disable your firewall and/or antivirus program and check back whether Skype works or not. If it does, reconfigure your antivirus and/or firewall program to allow it to make through the list of safe applications.

Step 7:

Update driver software of your audio/video cards to prevent Skype from crashing during calls. You can download the latest updates either through Windows Update or can directly visit the audio/video manufacturer’s website.

Step 8:

Uninstall any recently installed Skype add-on or plug-in and then check back if Skype works or not. If Skype works and doesn’t crash, it indicates a problem with the add-on which might not have been written properly.

Step 9:

Uninstall and reinstall Skye if nothing seems to get it working. Go to Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs> look for Skype and select it> click the Change/Remove button and then proceed with the removal. When prompted, restart your computer. When done, connect to the Internet and then download Skype again from the Skype website. it should work fine then.
