Well, most of the true mages fled to the mountains… Little did Houyi know that the truest mage was under his nose all along – yes, you’ve guessed it! Chang’e!

Now when they were first married, Chang’e would have done anything for her husband. However, as time went on, it became clear that giving him the elixir of immortality would not be beneficial for anyone besides Houyi himself!

So Houyi searched day and night, forcing all the wise men of the land to give him their secrets. The ones who knew nothing came to court seeking reward while the true mages fled to the mountains.

Having begun to have thoughts of his own mortality, but liking immensely the life in which he now found himself, Houyi began to spend all his time and effort trying to find the secret to immortality. This may sound crazy today, but there were strange possibilities awaiting persistent seekers which can no longer be found in our modern times.

I don’t think the king’s chief scholar is very impressed at having to read through all the archives so quickly!

Photo-based or photo-manipulated art is the most prevalent and popular of the digital arts, as the number of exhibits included here suggest. The potential for great art in this format is so fraught with possibility that each artist has often been able to do his own thing, go his own way, wreak his own style, as if photoart were its own muse.

Jerome Poitevin is a fine art photographer and digital artist from France. Many of his images have an unusual and dramatic impressionistic aura.

He writes, “At the origin of my pictures there is a photography. Once digitized, I will split up the signs that enable their reading. For example, a piece of architecture will be split up into independent elements such as its color, its texture, its shadows…Those elements are then duplicated, moved, piled up on successive layers in a composition where the photo is transmuted into a painting.” He thinks of his art as an “antidote” to the commercial, ideological, proselytizing images of graphic designers, admen, journalists, and artists who use their pictures to impose their point of view. His answer is to create images that “stimulate the imagination of the onlooker instead of being the expression of the imagination of the creator.”

I have been drawing so many rabbits lately that the cats may start to feel neglected! So here’s a sarcastic cat for your pleasure… feel free to suggest alternative comments for him to say!
