A few months back, I wrote about my phone and my intention of getting the SE w890. After testing the

A few months back, I wrote about my phone and my intention of getting the SE w890. After testing the phone, I found that it was quite laggy. The browsing through the phone wasn’t smooth and SMS input was slow and at times unresponsive. I’m thankful that I didn’t rush myself into buying it.

Since then, I’ve stumbled onto a few new phones that have caught my eye. I’ll start in random order.

Nokia N97

Nokia N97

I must say that this phone kicks ass. It has got basically everything one could ever ask for in a phone. It comes with wi-fi, GPS and a full slide-out qwerty keyboard. It uses Symbian OS (which is a very good thing). I’m not going to write a full review since there are many sites with those and I haven’t laid my hands on it yet. I am serious considering to wait for it BUT it’s hefty price tag might keep me away from it.

The ad shows the touch screen to be very responsive and has smooth transitions but it might go down to a hint of camera magic. It was said to be out in stores somewhere in May in the US & UK and according to the few Nokia stores I’ve asked in KL, I was told it’ll be out in October this year. They couldn’t give me a price range but I’m predicting this to be in the range of RM2,800-RM3,200. Why? Because the world loves milking every drop from Asia.

Blackberry Storm

Blackberry Storm

My friend’s sister sells Blackberry phones in Indonesia and during my last visit there, she tried selling it to me for 6,000,000 rupiah ($600). I would have bought it if I had that much cash on me. I was short $300. It looks cool although it’s a bit on the bulky side AND I heard blackberry phones can’t install 3rd party applications. It comes as is. Well, that’s what a friend told me but I do recall seeing her phone with some programs that wouldn’t look like they were stock software for example her icons which she changed to mimic that of the iPhone.

Speaking of which; why is it that every time a new phone comes out, reviewers always try to compare it to the iPhone and try to judge whether or not that phone will be an ‘iPhone-killer’? What’s the point? No doubt the iPhone 3G is a fantastic piece of electronics BUT it does has it’s flaws. It comes with an in-built battery. It doesn’t have a physical keypad. It has to be bought with a plan from a specific telco. You can always choose to get one then crack it but why should we subject ourselves to the hassle?

I love the iPhone but I would have no hesitation to get something else.

Blackberry Pearl Flip

BlackBerry Pearl Flip

This beauty caught my eye from the first moment I saw it. I have a phone fetish for clam shell phones. A friend keeps telling me that he feels clam shell phones look feminine and were designed for women. What does he know? He likes candy bars.

The Blackberry Pearl Flip is pretty and comes with a qwerty keypad like all Blackberry phones. Although it doesn’t pack an amazing camera, that doesn’t really bother me. What does bother me is the standard Blackberry roller which replaces the standard navigation square most phones have. It is harder to move around on the Pearl Flip because there isn’t a pointer that shows the movement like other Blackberries. It just scrolls around the available tabs on screen. Not easy to navigate and takes a lot of getting used to. The ultimate reason why I didn’t get it.

Concept Phones

There are a few concept phones that I’ve seen but there are only 2 that have caught my eye. The Nokia 888 & the BenQ Siemens Black Box. I just want to remind everybody that these are just concept phones and are not actually in production OR in any phase of planning. It’s simply concepts that people have envision for future phones.

Nokia 888

The Nokia 888 looks so cool. It would have the ability to mold itself into any shape depending on the situation. You can strap it on you wrist or bend it to clamp onto your pocket. The hindsight might be the way messages are read because it was shown to have the text scrolling. Not an effective way of reading your messages and also it’ll be hard to maintain privacy. I have no idea where the speakers will be but all-in-all it’s still a fantastic idea and hopefully with a few tweaks, it might still hit the markets before humanity has discovered warp drive using anti-matter.

BenQ Siemens Black Box

The BenQ Siemens Black Box is simplistic but still very futuristic. Basically a box that is fully touch screen and changes it’s screen options depending on the usage; a phone mode would have its keypad, video mode (if any) would transform the whole thing into a viewer. It doesn’t sound so new as most phones (Nokia 5800, iPhone) have similar basis of operations. The phone will give flexibility to the owner whereby the front screen can be customed. Sounds a lot like the N97 and movable widgets. The difference that the Siemens Black Box would have is that it is…. a black box.

Esato board user FlamEmo has us accustomed to great phone designs, so this brand new XPERIA concept is a sign that he keeps up the good work. Interestingly enough, the handset’s menu is in Russian (I think), so this concept phone might be theoretically hitting the Yota carrier, that also brought us HTC Max 4G.

Of course, this is all speculation and lucky guessing, but we feel free to dream every once in a while…

This new XPERIA concept draws its inspiration from the design of Sony Ericsson Idou and packs a touchscreen, probably a physical QWERTY keyboard, too and lots of memory and processing power. Its look wonderful any how.
The LG Synthesis is a concept phone designed by Andrew Seunghyn Kim. His concept phone’s theme is nature – and leaves and branches are shown in the logo, hardware and software of this phone. The very large AMOLED touch screen would provide a pleasureable experience and reduces the unneccessary button craze shown on most touch screen phones today and the OS of the phone is well structured and has one of the most pleasant user interfaces to date.

I have compiled a list of Top Ten concept phones that might or might not meet realism. 10. Bracelet

I have compiled a list of Top Ten concept phones that might or might not meet realism.

10. Bracelet Phone with Built-in MP3 Player

When this Bracelet phone receives any message, it starts vibrating and making or receiving a phone call is just too easy. To read the message, take the bracelet out of your wrist and press the diamond-like keystroke.

Whoa, it’s not just another run-of-the-mill concept. Instead, the bracelet phone comes with a built-in MP3 player. With this phone on your wrist, you are definitely going to rock the party and make others green-eyed.

9. CUin5 Concept Cellphone

CUin5 mobile phone is inspired by the big firm’s designs of a ’super-practical’ interface with the all-too-typical feature set. Every face of the phone carries a keypad, microphone, and speaker. The part you touch first gets active while all other edges are in lock mode.

8. BenQSiemens Snake phone

I am just thinking of how to operate this snaky phone. The concept phone looks like a snake and you can wrap it around your wrist.

The looks are cool and captivating but I doubt the ease with which we will be operating this crazy snaky concept phone.

7. Dark Label Retroxis Phone

The Black Label Retroxis phone by designer Lim Sze Tat reflects a retro
approach towards design with clean aesthetics, optimum controls and functions.

It is sheathed in high genteel polycarbonate prominent for its lightweight and stiffness and the imperceptible OLED display silently hides away when inactive to make your phone look clean and stylish.

6. Onyx Concept Phone

I hope you haven’t forgotten the Onyx concept phone- first keyless touch-screen mobile phone utilizing Synaptics’ Clearpad transparent touch-sensitive capacitive sensor.

5. Black Box Concept Phone

The looks of this concept phone from BenQ-Seimens are alluring enough to turn your head.

Well, the Black Box changes the control layout according to the functions you use.

4. NEC Tag concept phone

The concept phone has been made up of flexible material and has been named ‘Tag’. The flexible material used will allow this phone to change its shape according to the mode.

So hang them, wear as a wristband or just wrap around the belt, these phones will never say no to a shape.

3. Nokia Aeon concept phone

The Nokia Aeon concept was somehow inspired by Synaptics Onyx. The full surface touchscreen display phone concept is indeed cool and tempting but who knows? Nokia is tight-lipped to make any comments on the phone.

2. Sony Ericsson Concept Phone

Though we are not sure whether this cool product is actually in works, I would love to see it get real.

All that we know at the moment is its OLED display, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 2GB of storage, and an integrated FM tuner.

The ultra-thin phone comes with silver accents and flip-down cover. Well Sony, we can’t wait more. Drop it down.

1. Nokia Archive Concept Phone

The concept phone dubbed ‘Archive’ will enable the users to share ideas at ease and pace. Virtual teamwork is made effortless through smart wireless conferencing and remote presentations. Bluetooth audio ensures strong and clear communication. When mobile technology ascends to this level, we will achieve great things together.

The future of tech in just one word: plastics

“In the 2002 movie “Minority Report,” director Steven Spielberg painted the future as a place where no surface was still. Newspapers updated in readers’ hands and advertisements talked to passersby. Even cereal boxes were animated.

Now, these technologies are finally arriving, albeit in a piecemeal fashion. One of the driving forces: breakthroughs in plastics-based electronics”….<More>

What better way to start off the monday with a quote from Goodie Mob. Hope you all had a relaxing and good weekend because it is monday and that means i get to beat your brain until it looks like oatmeal with stories going on around the world.

Before i start I would like to ask god to come down and please fix the central air in the state of Florida because I am melting here. Fat Latino kids and heat just doesn’t work I felt like bread pudding when I went to get my mail earlier. Now lets get it cracking.

In entertainment lets see what is up. Ah Ed Norton star of The fight club, recently the incredible Hulk is running around telling people and fans that he wrote the movie. Tsk Tsk ED, Edward Eddie, E, not cool man. Why you would steal another mans thunder is beyond me. What I found more interesting about the whole situation is the original writer of the movie claimed Norton played no part in the writing of the incredible hulk movie and is upset that someone is trying to discredit something he worked 10 years on writing. *Cough* 10 years to write the Hulk…5 minutes to lose credibility for it. Good Job sir.

Now sure if anyone follows the Wendy Williams. Recently she had on Omarosa and it was fireworks from the start. I don’t watch the show really but i found that someone on tv standing up to Wendy Williams was fun. Heres the first part of the video and the rest you can see on Youtube.

OK enough of the Oprah crap lets see what’s in works to better our future.

Not sure how old these concepts are but i found them amusing to learn about and read. I couldn’t get the Youtube videos to load for me but im sure on the main site they might have more then 1 video of the phones you would want to see.

http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/top-10-concept-phones/

That’s the link for the concept phones.

Lets see what else we have in the crab barrel to talk about..ah yes. The Microsoft xbox fan boys worrying about the Xbox and Sony wars. Microsoft has already admitted to be working on the next console.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/xbox/xbox-3-already-being-planned-208191.php

That’s the link to wear i read that little bit of gossip, rumor or insight. I feel its true because any true gamer of consoles knows their life span is on average 5 years at most. Also Apple has been considering or pondering the idea of jumping into the gaming ranks with Sony and Microsoft. I am not sure what they can do with a real gaming console but i already have an idea of what they can do with a handheld. Just look up iTouch and iPhone games on Youtube. One of the biggest concept tho is the iCapopener. I think my family especially my cousin from organized khunfyoozhuhn can make great use of this product. Check the video below.

OK was a bad joke. I found it funny though. Sue me =). Now that I’m done with technology does anyone else find it kinda pointless in the way we are going with it. I mean we are advancing phones and gadgets but nothing major that improves life at home. We certainly showed we can improve life on the Go. Maybe they are telling us something like pack your stuff and GTFO?

Announced at the Mobile World Congress, Remade is a mobile phone created entirely from re-used materials.

The concept is made from such tree-hugging materials as upcycled aluminium cans, plastics from drinks bottles, keys from old tyres, and printed electronics on the inside. No real info on the screen (or the battery), but at a push, you could possibly use second-hand materials to create small LCD panels for the display.

Whilst this is a great idea, and a real leap forward for Nokia. On the flip side, however, there’s nothing stopping Nokia and other manufacturers including these recycled materials in their current designs.

Just how much recycled materials do phone manufacturers use? It’s not just a green issue, I’m sure that it must be cheaper to collect materials than to create them from oil or mining.

What do you see as the next coming up technology for ubiquitous connectivity? WiFi or WiMax or 3G or EVDO ? Any other ? Will the emergence of this technology be region specific ? If so, which one is likely to be the one in Asia, US and Europe ?

“What do you see as the next coming up technology for ubiquitous connectivity? WiFi or WiMax or 3G or EVDO ? Any other ? Will the emergence of this technology be region specific ? If so, which one is likely to be the one in Asia, US and Europe ?

“The big question is – can WiMAX catch up w or replace Cellular adoption and maturity? Intel and Samsung would like to make it the big connect-anywhere feature for new UMPC’s, but I note that for instance Sprint just delayed its planned US rollout – so we have to wait and see.

Korean WiBro is a Govt supported service up and running, and I have heard that Indian operators will now look to WiMAX for gaining cheap RoW into cities and across slums areas instead of trenching-in fiber”…. Via Linked In Answers
