This was my first attempt in low-poly modeling as a test to a job in a game company. As it is obvious, I failed miserably because the polycount is arount the 3500 tris and the texture is a huge 2560×2056 (damn!)

As you can see in the wireframe I still have the vices picked up during my training in Tungsten as a hi-poly modeller. Even with an effort in trying t keep the polycount low, the errors are many.

Concept

È un sito web all’interno del quale si trova un gioco e uno spazio dedicato alla community. Il gioco serve ad insegnare al giocatore quali sono i comportamenti più rispettosi per l’ambiente e le possibili conseguenze negative delle loro scelte.

Il gioco ha un look and feel accattivante, utilizza uno stile umoristico ed è ambientato in spazi ispirati alla quotidianità del giocatore. Quest’ultimo potrà andare avanti nel gioco solo scegliendo i comportamenti più corretti riguardanti l’ambiente (acqua, energia, rifiuti, mobilità e politiche ambientali), in caso contrario sarà costretto ad affrontare  le conseguenze negative.

Nella parte dedicata all’utente, il giocatore può controllare le classifiche e comunicare con gli altri giocatori.

 È destinato a giocatori adulti (over 15).

Cos’è

Il progetto ha come obiettivo la realizzazione di una sezione “ambiente” all’interno del sito istituzionale del Comune di Sassari, di totem informativi e di brochures tematiche.

A cosa serve

L’intento è quello di dare informazioni sull’eco-sostenibilità in ambito domestico, creare consapevolezza e incentivare comportamenti sostenibili.

Quali saranno le sue caratteristiche

Sarà uno strumento suddiviso in diverse aree tematiche: energia, acqua, rifiuti, spesa, design, sezione eventi. Sarà dedicato uno spazio di User Genereted Content in cui i cittadini possano scambiare le proprie esperienze e competenze riguardo le aree tematiche indicate. Inoltre verrà realizzato uno strumento a supporto del sistema per misurare i consumi in tempo reale, affinché l’utente possa verificarli e monitorarli direttamente.

Da chi sarà usato

I cittadini del Comune di Sassari, con particola attenzione alle famiglie e limitatamente agli individui che abbiano compiuto i 18 anni.

Dove sarà usato

Il sistema sarà utilizzato dagli utenti direttamente dal proprio pc (fisso da casa o portatile dovunque essi si trovino). I totem saranno dislocati nei punti sensibili della città. Le brochures tematiche saranno distribuite nei punti vendita.

Clearly, strategic planning is no panacea. Strategic planning is simply a set of concepts, procedures, and tools designed to help leaders, managers, and planners think and act strategically. Used in wise and skillful ways by a “coalition of the willing,” strategic planning can help organizations focus on producing effective decisions and actions that further the organization’s mission, meet in mandates, and satisfy key stakeholders. But strategic planning is not a substitute for strategic thinking and acting. Only caring and committed people can do that. And when used thoughtlessly, strategic planning can actually drive out precisely the kind of strategic thought and action it is supposed to promote.

Furthermore, strategic planning is not a substitute for leadership. There is simply no substitute for leadership when it comes to using strategic planning to enhance organizational performance. At least some key decision makers and process champions must be committed to the strategic planning process, or any attempts to use it are bound to fail.

In addition, strategic planning is not synonymous with creating an organizational strategy. Organizational strategies have numerous sources, both planned and unplanned. Strategic planning is likely to result in statement of organizational intentions, but what is realized in practice will be some combination of what is intended and what emerges along the way. Strategic planning can help organizations develop and implement effective strategies, but they should also remain open to unforeseen opportunities. Too much attention to strategic planning and excessive reverence for strategic plans can build organizations to other unplanned and unexpected—yet incredibly useful—sources of information, insight, and action.

The discipline necessary for strategic planning can be of two sorts. The first harkens back to Latin root of the word “discipline,” emphasizing instruction, training, education, and learning. The second embodies later interpretations of the word, emphasizing order, control, and punishment. Emphasis should be placed on education and learning, although there clearly are occasions when imposing order, taking control, and enforcing appropriate sanctions are appropriate. Certainly, key leaders, managers, and planners can best use strategic planning as an educational and learning tool, to help them figure out what is really important and what should be done about it. Sometimes this means following a particular sequence of steps and preparing formal strategic plans, but not necessarily. The ultimate goal of strategic planning should not be a rigid adherence to a particular process or an instance on the production of plans. Instead, strategic planning should promote wise strategic thought and action on behalf of an organization and its key stakeholders. What steps to follow, in what sequence, and whether or not to prepare formal plans are subsidiary concerns.

Oh, the bother of having to be near an actual television when you want to watch a program! Researchers say those dark days may soon be behind us: Contact lenses that can beam video programming right into your eyeball may be just 10 years away from reality.

Ian Pearson, a futurist (not an engineer, mind you), says that body heat would provide all the energy needed to power the high-tech lenses. And that’s not all: “Digital tattoos” could also be developed to allow wearers to literally feel the emotions that the director wants you to feel. Per the piece: “This would allow James Bond fans to feel the thrill of outdoing the enemy or sports fans to experience the elation of jubilant players.”

Color me skeptical: Ten years seems like an awfully short time horizon for these developments. The technology for injecting an emotional state (er… legally and safely) via a skin patch is awfully out there, and contact lens TV suffers from the problem that the eye simply can’t focus on objects that close to it. Some sort of projection system or complicated light-focusing arrangement could be a solution, but both of those technologies in a device the size of a contact lens are, again, currently far-fetched. People may also feel a bit squeamish about dropping a television into their eye socket… not to mention placing their emotional well-being in the hands of Hollywood.

The closest we can get to eyeball TV today? Head-mounted displays like the Vuzix line of “video eyewear.” Throw in a super-sized Mountain Dew to simulate “the elation of jubilant players” and you’re halfway to the future

Stage one includes evidence of my work continuing from already completed materials, mainly to do with Fountain.

First is a picture of me with balloon, an excited boy whose ecstatic to see fountain for real possibly? Second is a wall drawing of fountain with hirst dots all over it. Third is a fountain playing a basketball whistle and wearing fetching mickey mouse gloves: A kind of cheerleader for newer pieces of art? Fourth is a wrecked studio, putting across my feelings and attempts to be able not to sell something, a concept. Upon coming in the next day I found Carrie drawing a chalkline around it, making it sellable as it can be measured.

Close beta date was announced. 1st of December dreams come true for Europe. And already there’s a new life starting to form within the fantasy realm. May the gods bless him with courage and diligence and me with free time to play…

Comprende un artefatto online, un sito web utile a diffondere la cultura biologica e far conoscere la realtà dei GAS; e un artefatto offline, uno sportello informativo all’interno dell’Urp del Comune attraverso il quale poter avere informazioni, prenotare e/o acquistare i prodotti.
Lo sportello informativo, “Spazio verde”, mette a disposizione, per i cittadini che decideranno di acquistare biologico, una card ricaricabile che consentirà di accumulare punti utili per uno sconto sulla tassa dei rifiuti solidi urbani.

Il sito internet permette ai cittadini di: registrarsi allo spazio verde;  iscriversi alla newsletter;  prenotare prodotti e/o acquistare online;  avere un’area riservata; utilizzare i servizi Web 2.0 (lista di twitter, spazio di socializzazione, ecc).
Ai produttori permette di: avere una propria sezione sul sito nella quale può aggiornare la lista dei prodotti in vendita; avere un’area riservata; proporre un’eventuale convenzione; utilizzare i servizi Web 2.0 (Twitter dei produttori e lista).
I dipendenti Urp possono utilizzare il sito anche per ordinare i prodotti da parte dei cittadini che vanno allo spazio verde.

 Il servizio sarà usato da tutti i cittadini del Comune. In particolare da: cittadini che conoscono e fanno già parte dei gas, e cittadini che potenzialmente potrebbero farne parte, dipendenti dell’Urp, e produttori.
Verrà usato nel comune in cui verrà istituzionalizzato il Gas, e da tutti gli utenti del web interessati.

BMW’S SENSATIONAL SIX

BMW have shown a six cylinder concept bike at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. Alastair Walker reports.

BMW sprung a big surprise on the Italian motorcycle industry at Milan recently, with a six cylinder concept model – the first production six in motorcycling since the Kawasaki Z1300 of the 80s

BMW’s concept is cafe racer styled, featuring an in-line six cylinder engine, which looked extremely compact. The engine has tiny cylinders, which BMW say are set very close together to save space, with the motor utilising an oversquare bore/stroke ratio. What that means in everyday language is that the pistons are fairly wide and they don’t travel too far within each cylinder.

The concept six has a theoretical peak power output at 9,000rpm say BMW, presumably to help keep the engine temperature down and extend the overall engine life.

Clues like the design of the radiator and the air scoops set next to the engine also suggest that BMW have considered how to keep this monster power unit cool in hot weather.  That’s very important, because the word from BMW is that the big 1600cc six will be the powertrain of a flagship future BMW touring bike. A six pot motor would certainly offer uncanny smoothness and effortless torque for two-up riding.

The concept bike also features the Duolever and Paralever/shaft drive rear end, with a twin-spar alloy frame, suspending the engine at a 55 degree angle. Tipping the motor forwards was a design touch Honda employed with its six cylinder CBX1000 back in 1978, as it helps place weight on the front end of the bike and keeps the overall mass of the bike set nice and low.

With its tiny mirrors, single seat, beautiful cast alloy wheels and sleek styling, the BMW concept machine looks almost road ready, except for the swoopy exhausts, which don’t appear to have an catalyser fitted. The official statement from BMW is that the concept won’t go into production as seen, but the engine definitely looks set to power K-series BMW touring motorbikes of the future.

Great engineering from BMW, a viable touring engine for the future and real publicity coup for the German company at Milan. There’s no word on whether the six will make an appearance at the Carole Nash International Motorcycle Show at the NEC later this week.

That’s right a car that will drive up to 1000miles quick, that’s 1609 km/h! Why? Because we can now supposedly. But firstly, it’s not really a car, its one of those jet powered turbines with wheels. If they’ll build one at all they will only build one. As always you wouldn’t be able to drive it (well you aren’t allowed to drive it anywhere) but the special driver will get to drive it in some sort of dessert. They will break the bench mark once and then theyll just keep it in some warehouse. So all together for us normal people its not that interesting is it? Last note, who thought purple and orange was the way to go?

Le concept de mon affiche est assez simple. Non pas l’affiche qui est simple, mais ce qu’elle dégage. Comme Le Petit Prince, elle paraît simple, mais cache beaucoup.

Le fond est un ciel étoilé où l’on peut imaginer quelque part la planète du Petit Prince. Le ciel laisse l’imaginaire travailler, car il est à la fois semblable à un vrai ciel, mais quelque chose fait qu’il est magique, la couleur? Les étoiles? J’ai pris une image de ciel étoilé qui me plaisait beaucoup. Je l’ai retravaillée pour accentuer ce côté magique que je désirais et pour en faire un fond complet à mon affiche.

Le dessin du Petit Prince a été découpée d’une image. Je trouvais ce Petit Prince particulièrement beau. J’ai mis un effet sur l’image afin qu’elle semble être davantage dessinée. Je me suis inspirée pour cela du fait que le narrateur du Petit Prince  parle beaucoup des dessins qu’il fait et que le livre est grandement illustré. De plus, comme le narrateur est le seul à avoir vu le Petit Prince, il n’y a, comme image de celui -ci, que ses illustrations.

Le mouton, quant à lui, représente cet ami que désire le Petit Prince et ce qui lui permet de rencontrer le narrateur. Pour plusieurs, le mouton représente une majeur partie du Petit Prince, c’est un élément de l’histoire que les gens retiennent et ils l’associent au Petit Prince. Il est bon de mettre sur l’affiche un élément qui éveille le souvenir des gens.  Sur l’affiche, le mouton est une constellation. Je trouvais que c’était une façon originale d’inclure le mouton au concept de  l’affiche. À la fin du récit, le Petit Prince part sur sa planète avec son mouton, ils sont quelque part, parmi les étoiles.

J’ai aussi choisi d’écrire la phrase Parce que toutes les grandes personnes ont d’abord été des enfants. C’est une phrase tirée de la dédicace du livre et je la trouve fabuleuse. C’est dans cet état d’esprit que doivent se mettre les adultes pour lire le Petit Prince. Sans jouer à être un enfant, ils se rappellent seulement qu’ils l’ont déjà été. Cette phrase attire aussi les gens avec ce clin d’oeil au monde de l’enfance qu’ils n’ont certainement pas oublié et qu’ils voudraient peut-être parfois retrouver.

Moving Kitchen by Joongho Choi

Moving Kitchen is a nifty little concept by South Korean designer Joongho Choi. The sleek looking portable mini-appliance can be moved anywhere around the house or even out to the garden – basically anywhere it is needed – by simply wheeling it around.

The product is full of hidden surprises all neatly compacted into the smallest footprint. It features an induction hob and pull out tables on both sides providing adequate preparation surfaces and dining areas. It also features two separate drawers and a small cupboard for the storage of crockery, cutlery and pans.

Don’t let it be said that I’m not at the cutting edge of new bikes, like these two from Bee Em (hot off the press, well some time ago). Anyway, long live the boxer but a bit more of the first one too (please).

Le projet de deuxième année est une installation reposant sur l’observation des éléments microscopiques dans l’air (microbe, bactéries, particules etc) et leur perception autour de nos corps aux quotidiens.

Cette idée est née par la menace de la pandémie de la grippe A qui se déroule actuellement dans le monde entier. Cette menace se propage car on peut être infecté à n’importe quel endroit mais aussi on ne peut pas sentir son existence.  La menace de pandémie a commencé depuis l’année dernière mais les informations circulent plus rapidement que le pandémie de la grippe.

J’ai commencé à faire des recherches sur les virus et les microbes depuis le début de ce phénomène. Je suis intéressé par le statut d’existence de ce virus. Un virus n’a aucunes cellules mais que de l’ADN. On dit qu’ils sont entre le vivant et le non-vivant par rapport à la définition de la vie, aujourd’hui.

Ce statut me fait beaucoup penser à une oeuvre d’arts de Wim Delvoye, le Cloaca ainsi qu’à la recherche sur le vivant à partir de la vie artificielle de Takashi Ikegami qui est un scientifique de systèmes complexes. Ces deux idées nous amènent sur le potentiel des nouvelles créatures qui sont entre le vivant et le non-vivant. Ces nouvelles créatures sont à placés au même niveau que l’Homme et toutes les espèces vivantes dans la nature.

J’ai l’impression qu’une créature artificielle peut nous donner une nouvelle manière de percevoir la relation entre les hommes et les éléments dans l’air. Souvent, l’Homme se protège de ces éléments invisibles. Ces deux vivants peuvent créer des nouveaux rapprochements et des nouvelles idées sur les éléments dans l’air.

L’installation se compose de deux cabines liées par un airduct qui fait déplacer des particules de l’une vers l’autre. On entre dans la première cabine (A), on s’y installe sur une chaise, des haut-parleurs sont implantés aux murs et une fenêtre est disposée face à nous pour regarder l’autre cabine (B).

L’autre cabine permet l’observation des particules dans laquelle sera disposé un spot et un caméra.

Une fois qu’on entre dans la cabine (A), l’air de la cabine sera aspiré par le plafond et envoyer dans l’autre cabine (B) avec les particules du spectateur. Puis, la lumière du spot s’allumera petit à petit dans la cabine (B). Le spectateur pourra visualiser ses particules grâce à cette lumière.  La camera dans la cabine (B) détectera les mouvements des particules qui tomberont en se déplaçant dans l’air. Ces mouvements de particules se traduiront en numérique via un ordinateur et cela composera du son. Ce son évolue grâce au mouvement des particules et au logiciel informatique comme un jeu de la vie. Ce son sera diffusé dans la cabine (A) et cela qui complètera la vie artificielle par le mouvement des particules.

Le spectateur observe la mutation de leurs particules par cette machine. Cette interactivité physique et visuelle lui permet de découvrir une autre manière de percevoir les éléments dans l’air au quotidien.
