It’s raining, wet and cold today. Drizzle Drizzle Drizzle … I didn’t want to get out of bed today but alas, I had that appointment with Prof. Scott over my Origen paper. I have done some preliminary reading of a text that I picked up at the library – but even Prof. Scott told me that it would do me no good. So what did he do? We checked the library for texts – none were to be found … so much for a university library stocked with all the latest books and archives.

He then perused his own personal library there in his office and pulled 4 books off the shelf and told me that he would photo copy everything that I would need for my paper… That was very kind. Some of the reading that he copied me was written by our esteemed professor of Theology Charles Kannengiesser, whom I took Trinity with last summer. So it looks like I am on track for this second paper.

We also talked about god forsaken Sophia. I told him that I thought that I had exhausted all of my sources for material and came up 5 pages short of the goal of 20 pages and he suggested that I write a 5 page critical analysis of the material that I used covering the major themes and crucial ideas. I think I can do that. So I will do that over the next couple of days. The paper isn’t due until Tuesday.

I stopped by the library to drop off all the books that I had checked out and wouldn’t you know it, the university has already put up their Christmas trees in all the downtown buildings. I noticed that many of the shops on Ste. Catherine’s Street are decorated as well. It doesn’t feel like Christmas yet, but I know that hubby wants to put the tree up this weekend… OY VEY !!!

El Bloque Peronismo Federal conformado por los entrerrianos Cremer de Busti, Petit y Zavallo presentó hoy en el Congreso de la Nación un proyecto de ley para declarar zona de desastre por inundaciones por el plazo de 180 días, prorrogables por igual término por el Poder Ejecutivo Nacional las localidades ribereñas al Río Uruguay ubicadas en los departamentos de Federación, Concordia, Colón, Concepción del Uruguay, Gualeguaychú e Islas de la Provincia de Entre Ríos.

El proyecto también declara zona de desastre agropecuario por inundaciones por el plazo de 180 días prorrogables por igual término por el Poder Ejecutivo Nacional a los campos ubicados en los departamentos determinados en el artículo 1º en los términos de la ley 22.913 y solicita al Poder Ejecutivo Nacional que destine una partida especial para afrontar la emergencia hídrica en estos lugares, autorizando la adquisición de bienes, prestación de servicios y ejecución de obras urgentes e inmediatas de carácter hídricas, viales, edilicias, de comunicaciones, servicios públicos en general, y todas otras que resulten necesarias para afrontar la grave situación que viven los ciudadanos entrerrianos de esas localidades.

Asimismo encomienda al Poder Ejecutivo Nacional a implementar regímenes especiales de pago por parte de la Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos (AFIP) y la Administración Nacional de Seguridad Social (ANSES) que contemple expresamente a los contribuyentes afectados. (RecintoNet)

Digital studies for my (upcoming) series “A day with Steve”.

Der Kollege aus Hönow meint, dass “Die Union” keine nette Umschreibung für den 1. FC Union Berlin ist. Das weiss er als Fan besser.

Damit ich dazu auch was weiss, hab ich mal nach geschaut. Union ist eben die Einheit und somit verwandt mit, wenn auch nicht dasselbe wie Concordia und Eintracht. Es kann allerdings sein, dass man in diesem Teil Berlins, wo man der Legende nach eh anders war als die meisten Vereine, nicht mit “Der Union” von damals und vielleicht auch nicht der von heute verwechselt werden will. Vielleicht aber auch nur Geschmackssache.

Diputados podría tratar este miércoles, sobre tablas, el proyecto de ley de Turismo que algunos sectores, principalmente vinculados al Instituto de Ayuda Financiera a la Acción Social (IAFAS) rechazan por entender que su sanción dejaría la explotación del juego en manos privadas. El despacho, según pudo confirmar RecintoNet, no está firmado por el presidente de la comisión de Turismo, el diputado Jorge Kerz (PJ). Trabajadores del IAFAS pidieron una reunión con diputados de la oposición, la que se concretó en la tarde de este martes, en la que ratificaron que no acompañarán el texto que también divide al bloque del PJ.

El dictamen, que se pondría a consideración en la sesión de hoy, está firmado por Rubén Adami, Jorge Bolzán, Juan Carlos Almada, José Cáceres, Eduardo Jodor, Juan Domingo Zacarias y Hugo Vázquez , pero no por el presidente de la comisión Jorge Kerz como tampoco Ana DAngelo, y los radicales Mirta Alderete, José María Miser, Marcelo López y Patricia Díaz.

Desde el IAFAS, Emilio Rueda, delegado del bingo e Paraná, dijo que en el texto “hay tres artículos el 2º, el 3º y el 29º que perjudican a los trabajadores . Lo único que se busca es entregar el juego en manos privadas y eliminar el IAFAS, dado que cuando terminen los contratos que están vigentes, éstos pasarían a manos privadas”, denunciaron en declaraciones a APF.

Textual, qué dicen esos artículos

Art. 2º.- Interés provincial. Declárase de interés provincial a la actividad turística desarrollada en el ámbito de la provincia de Entre Ríos. A tal efecto, los diferentes órganos y entes de la Administración Pública Provincial, en el ámbito de sus respectivas competencias vinculadas al sector, prestarán su apoyo a la autoridad de aplicación de la presente ley, bajo los principios de facilitación, colaboración, coordinación e información interinstitucional.
Art. 3º.- La declaración de interés provincial de los proyectos integrales de emprendimientos turísticos deberá hacerse por decreto del Poder Ejecutivo fundamentándose su incidencia económica, la que deberá consistir en: a) emprendimientos de Hotelería de 4 y 5 estrellas; b) centros de convenciones para no menos de 600 personas; c) ferias, congresos, exposiciones, parques recreativos, temáticos y otros emprendimientos turísticos que se susciten en el futuro y que sean instados por la autoridad de aplicación, siempre que demanden una inversión económica similar a los emprendimientos señalados en los puntos a) y b) del presente artículo.

Artículo 29 Inciso 2.-

Los proyectos integrales de emprendimientos turísticos que ameriten la declaración específica de interés provincial por el Ejecutivo Provincial, podrán brindar servicios de explotación, administración de salas de juegos recreativos de azar y/o casinos en el régimen de gestión integral dentro de proyectos integrales de emprendimientos turísticos otorgados mediante procedimientos públicos de selección, cuya incidencia económica, laboral, social, recreativa, cultural y/o de actividades conexas declarados específicamente de interés turístico por el Ejecutivo Provincial. La inclusión de dicha actividad bajo la órbita de la presente ley, no modifica ni limita la fiscalización que el Instituto de Ayuda Financiera a la Acción Social mantiene sobre la misma, ni las facultades que mantiene dicho instituto sobre la explotación y administración de salas de juegos y/o casinos de gestión íntegramente estatal.

Otras posiciones

Cabe recordar que días atrás, Kerz se manifestó a LT 14, su preocupación por la existencia de salas de juego en localidades pequeñas que no reciben mucha afluencia de turistas. “Si se le saca dinero a quien depende de la acción social, la ecuación no cierra nunca”. Y,marcó que “otro punto distinto es que desde el Estado se recaude sobre aquel que tiene algún excedente y apuesta, porque después eso se distribuye a través de la acción social”, explicó en defensa de los casinos y salas de juego instalados en ciudades de gran afluencia turística.

Por su lado, Juan Domingo Zacarías, del Movimiento Social Entrerriano (MSE) había adelantado su propuesta para que sólo existan casinos y salas de juego en siete lugares que han sido diseñados como puntos turísticos, tales como son Paraná, Gualeguaychú, Victoria, Concordia, Concepción del Uruguay, Colón y Federación, “con el objetivo de que constituyan un atractivo más para quienes visitan estas ciudades con fines de esparcimiento”. Según el diputado “las salas de juegos tienen que ser atractivos para el desarrollo, donde se les brinde a los turistas un corredor que pueda visitar” y cuestionó que “en algunas ciudades, como Santa Elena, uno se pregunta cuáles son las razones para que haya allí una sala de juego, cuando un altísimo porcentaje de sus habitantes viven de los planes sociales”.

“También hay que preguntarse sobre “cuáles son las razones para que la Sala de juego de calle 25 de Mayo funcione de lunes a viernes a partir de las 10 de la mañana, cuando los que van son el señor y la señora que salen de cobrar en el banco con su tarjeta su sueldo o su plan social, o son empleados públicos que se hacen una escapada y a veces entran ahí. Porque qué turista va a esa hora a una sala de juego. Estas no son tales, son garitos, y no son un ambiente adecuado en esta ciudad con un neto corte cívico y administrativo. El Estado tiene que evitar la enfermedad y el juego en esa índole y en ese nivel ya no es un lugar de placer sino uno ámbito de enfermedad. Esta es la discusión que debemos tener; hay que plantear esta dicotomía en forma de debate” había dicho.(RN)

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Men’s Basketball team will kick off it’s season on Friday night with a home game against Concordia-St. Paul at U.S. Cellular Arena.

The Panthers may be out with returning leading Tone Boyle. He sat out both exhibition games, and his status is uncertain for Friday’s opener. Boyle and big man James Eayrs were named to the Horizon League’s preseason second team all-conference.

They will also be without the likes of transferring C Mitchell Carter who runs about 6′10″ 270 and will have to sit for the year.

The Panthers were projected to finish fourth in the Horizon League by the conference this year. Other publications have them as high as #2 in the league. I personally saw them in Sporting News as third in the Horizon.

Seems as if coach Rob Jeter has a heap of a new guard crop this year. With Lonnie Boga and Ja’Rob McCallum coming in and getting a taste in preseason. Also, getting eligibility for this year is former Madison Memorial standout Jerard Ajami. He’s transferring to UWM after spending two seasons up at Northern Michigan.

I see that Concordia-St. Paul has this game listed as an exhibition bout on their website, so now I’m confused. Maybe they just figure they’re going to get blown out. Most likely it’s because they are Division II.

Last Friday, my friends and I went to a charity event organized by someone who used to work at our school. It’s a semi-formal party that only our school is allowed to attend. It was located in a simple-enough hall, with chandeliers, a little buffet, and round chairs placed here and there. The food tasted like icicles, but otherwise, we had a lot of fun. This party also made me realise how much I need to lose weight. o-o

I’m third from the left. The one thing that pissed got me down that night…. it was that time of the month.

I came back home at around 12:30am, got ready, went to bed at 1am. The next morning, I had to wake up at 6:20am – i know, brutal – to go for a two-hour car drive to Montreal City, where I went to visit universities.

Now, as you all know, I am planning on pursuing my studies in film production – a very competitive program. At the first university I visited, Concordia, I was incredibly stunned by their program. It is one of the most prestigious in Canada, and it shows. Some members of the program were nominated for Oscars. For Canadians to go that far – that’s pretty legit to me!

I walked into the auditorium, while my cousin went to the presentation for the photography program (which apparently sucked). The production teacher first starts his speech.

“Now, for those interested in making Fight Club action movies (I raised my head with interest), or slasher horror movies and shit like that – get the fuck out. We don’t want you.” Four, five people left. I was considering, but was too curious and decided to listen to the whole thing. This guy was intriguing. He continued explaining how  Concordia focuses on the creative development and how its students in the film production/animation program can input their vision & personality on screen. Which is exactly what I have been looking for. The other schools? If you’ve held a camera before, you’re good to go. But Concordia is more than that. It encourages the creative process, weird/wacko visions that don’t seem to make sense at all. It realized, I think, how 90% of films today are based on something, and note exactly a produce of the film creator’s mind.They want originality. They want the people to remember that the film industry is, in itself, a form of art, and not only advertisement! I was completely blown away and now, I am determined to show them that, though I’m not the best with equipment, my mind is craving to explode onto the screen.  The downer here is I can’t use any projects I’ve created in highschool because all of those was teamwork. For my portfolio, they demand a 3 minute film demonstrating my vision. I’m not panicking about this – I’ve got plenty of ideas for it!  My media teacher is encouraging me to work extra hard on this and he is lending me equipment so I can have something before the profiles deadline. Although, I think that, because I’m not good with machines, I won’t survive very long. But my creativity is stronger than my technical knowledge – which is the criteria pursued by this University.

Now, the second university – I won’t even talk about it. It spat in my face, totally not interested. Not something I want to attend. >>

On that weekend’s Sunday, my big sister took me shopping in Montreal – which is almost the equivalent of New York City. Everything there is bigger, better, and more expensive! I bought this adorable little wallet for 23$, and three pairs of nylons I am planning on starting my fashion change with. XD

Excuse the blur and admire the adorableness that is owls! I’m having an owl-fetish these days. So cute. Apparently, they’re beginning a trend, too! D’Awh C:

Our Subjective Multiplicity

Abstract: For decades, philosophers have “de-centered” the self, calling into question essentialist conceptions of human nature and ego based theories of mind, to the point that theorists like Rorty relinquished the project of self-discovery in favor of a project of self-creation while Foucault could announce, with confidence, the “total dispersion of the human” into networks of social forces. In the wake of such arguments, a reconstructive account has gone missing, however, that is, few theorists have ventured a non-egological account of selfhood. Taking my leave from Nietzsche’s provocative reference to the self as a “subjective multiplicity,” I am developing a non-egological conception of the self that brings hermeneutic phenomenology and critical social theory into conversation with the dialogical self theory developed by Hubert Hermans and others in the Netherlands in the 1990’s. My claim will be that the self, in its personal, social, and material occurrence, is best understood as a constellation (or dynamic system) of interanimating self-positions, including social roles (e.g. self-as-parent, what I term “character positions”), psycho-physiological states (e.g. self-as-anxious, what I term “organism positions”), and moments of reflective self-regard (e.g. self-as-failure, what I term “meta-positions”). Moreover, I will claim that such an interanimating system is sufficient to underwrite the meaning-making projects that each human life is.

Prof. Lysaker is co-author of Schizophrenia and the Fate of the Self (Oxford, 2008) as well as the author of Emerson and Self-Culture (Indiana, 2008) and You Must Change Your Life: Poetry and the Birth of Sense (Penn State, 2002), and is co-editor of the forthcoming Emerson and Thoreau: Figures of Friendship (Indiana, 2009).
