I may be awake but I certainly don’t feel that way. Even 24 hours later my calves are still cramped and my neck is still tight but all this pain is more than worth it. Saturday, February 18th began the University of Connecticut’s 13th annual HuskyTHON; an 18 hour dance marathon for Connecticut Children’s Hospital that has changed my life more than I can even explain.

This year I was one of the lucky people to be chosen as a morale captain! Keeping the spirits of all the dancers high and teaching everyone the 11 min dance done 18 times, every hour, on the hour, I couldn’t have been in better spirits!

Like all public events, everyone was given a bracelet once they entered the room. This wasn’t your typical event bracelet though, this bright purple, chunky, hot, band was a hospital bracelet. Not questioning their motives, every dancer overlooked the little details until the closing ceremonies where the Management team pulled out the biggest surprise ever. As we stood around the field house hand in hand, each child participating from Connecticut Children’s Hospital cut off our bracelets. These small children cut ever single band, breaking free from everything ever holding them back and symbolizing the end of their battles with cancer or other disease. Tiny scissors in even tinier hands, made everyone in the room emotional. I will never forget the smile on the little girls face as she cut my bracelet off (mind you she was in a pink glittery tiara). Diva.

$304,375.24 later, our team Delta Zeta raised $21,310 and I couldn’t be more proud. I will never forget these 18 hours and it is my dream that HuskyTHON can continue growing and helping more and more families while helping teenagers and college students realize the true power of giving back. Memorial Day Weekend marks new beginnings – the summer is right around the corner, the scorching Sun is angled at the US to make it sizzle, and outdoor festivals & parties occur abundantly…

A few weeks ago, fellow iStandard Co-CEO/Founder J Hatch and I received an interesting email from our Twitter Master/Marketing Rep Daniel Recinos, stating that he met the organizers of a Memorial Day Weekend Music Festival in Hartford, CT while attending the Charlie Sheen show at Radio City Music Hall (guess, #Winning was in the air). He said they were interested in potentially involving iStandard as a media sponsor. Once we saw the line-up, there was no doubt we wanted in.

Snoop Dogg. Wiz Khalifa. Weezer. George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic. Edward Sharpe. The Cool Kids.

iStandard is proud to announce that we are an official media sponsor of one of the most exciting music festivals to open up the Summer of ’11. B.O.M.B. Fest – Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, May 29th at the Comcast Theatre in Downtown Hartford, Connecticut.

Originally scheduled to take place at Western Connecticut State University, B.O.M.B. Fest 2011 quickly out grew the site and has been moved to The Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT. B.O.M.B. Fest 2011 will feature even bigger stages and bigger acts. In addition to national talent, festival guests will experience more than over 25 local acts across multiple stages, delicious food vendors, unique craft vendors and one-of a kind art installations, all complemented by Comcast Theatre’s professional amenities – clean bathrooms, spacious parking lots and state of the art sound systems.

Plus iStandard will be in the house, so you know the event is official. I personally looked up hotels on Expedia in the Hartford area, and the Days Inn is only $59 a night that weekend. Not bad. Considering it’s only 2 1/2 hours from NYC, 2 hours from Boston, 4 hours from Philly, and less than 6 from the DMV.

Plus the 2-day festival pass is less than $100. Oh yeah, did I mention that it’s a non-profit event and the net proceeds will help kids who don’t have it so good….like the ones at The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp and Connecticut Children’s Hospital.

#Winning is giving back. Selflessness is #Losing. iStandard is not making a single dollar supporting this event.

But we are going to enjoy ourselves….

Help Connecticut's Children

We at Paradiso Insurance believe in our children. So we put together a second fund raiser in which, we partnered up with the Connecticut Children’s Hospital located in Hartford, CT. The program is called Miles for Smiles and on December1st 2009 Chris Paradiso and his staff will be at the hospital giving out baskets filled with Play Doh, crayons, coloring books, angel pins and Lego’s. We will be spending the day doing arts and crafts with the kids with the intention of putting a smile on each sick child’s face. If you can help us with by donating Lego’s, Play Doh, coloring books, crayons, or Toys R Us gift certificates we would greatly appreciate the help. Please assist us in helping these children’s future be a happy one. The fund raiser started October 1^st 2009 and will end December 1^st 2009. A little effort can make a remarkable difference.
