Jan Vermeiren wrote in his recent book How to Really Use LinkedIn about the “Know, Like, and Trust” Factor.  He discussed how important it is to raise you “Know” factor (what do your connections know about you), your “Like” factor (are your connections helpful and kind), and your “Trust” factor (do your connections trust that you are an expert and trust that you will behave in a decent way) with your LinkedIn connections.  I encourage you to read this (Vermeiren, 25) and the rest of his excellent book on LinkedIn; however today I wish to focus on the issue of the “Trust” factor.

This writer knew enough about me to include both libraries and Christianity in his note. But I don’t know this person, and it would be very unwise to allow him into my circle of connections. He may be 100% authentic – but then again he may not.

According to Vermeiren the “real power of the network is in the second degree”  (Vermeiren, 21).  If I were to allow someone that I didn’t know to join my set of connections, I would be allowing him to be in a very powerful place.  He would be a second degree connection to the rest of my connections.  If he were to contact one of my connections and use my name, any abusive or spam-type behavior would reflect on me.  And if one of my connections were to ask me about him and I were to say “well I really don’t know him,” that would significantly reduce my credibility. My credibility should be guarded vehemently.

Remember, in social networking, and especially professional social networking, be very careful who you connect to. Ensure that your connections fit the criteria of “Know, Like, and Trust.” Ensure that your connections are professional in every way.

Making a home movie and creating a web site is part of a suite of applications known as iLife. Creating a website is actually part of Microsoft Office, however, there are thousands of third party applications available for PC which will allow you to do that absolutely free: something that’s a bit hard to come by on a Mac.

The Royal Geographical Society’s annual expedition and fieldwork planning weekend is called, rather fittingly, Explore! It’s 2 days and a night of non-stop lectures, seminars and workshops led by some of the worlds best known and most experienced explorers, adventurers, researchers, and educators in the world, oiled with tea, cake and beer breaks where the networking begins.

The beer on sale this year was, you guessed it, Borneo Brew! Skinners Brewery very kindly donated 6 barrels of Borneo Brew and the RGS donated the profits from the sale of the beer to the expedition. We have to say a huge thank you to Shane Winser, Manger of the Geography Outdoors at the RGS, for promoting the beer and our expedition generally.

FXP 2010 had a team of 10 people at the event, giving learning and networking opportunities to team members and 2011 hopefuls. It was a huge success for the team. We made loads of new contacts, learned a lot of new skills from experts, and came away with a rocket up our collective backsides.

We were also filming the event on behalf of tghe RGS, and managed to get an interview with Python, travel presenter, and RGS President, Michael Palin, who wished the FXP 2010 team success. Star of the BBC expeditions to Borneo, Guyana and Papua New Guinea (Lost Land of the Volcano) shared a Borneo Brew with us too!

I attended Explore ’08 and it is one of the biggest reasons that FXP2010 has taken off: the energy and sense of support that this event creates is electrifying – you can’t help but come away with a sense of urgency, as well as the contacts to make whatever you decide to do happen.

It will be a dream come true if, next year, the FXP 2010 team return to Explore as guests, panelists and speakers, sharing our experiences and telling our tales from what ought to be one of the most excitin, challenging, and innovative expeditions of the year.

An important part of any customer database or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system is being able to handle the inevitable duplicate records. Here’s how to do it in WeCanDoCRM Social CRM.

First off, it’s entirely normal to get duplicate records as you bring contacts in from various distinct sources.  If you’ve emailed someone then you’ll hold a record for them in your email software, but that could differ from the details you hold for them in a older customer database or the details tthey share on Twitter.  Most CRM systems will update an existing contact record with new data you bring in, but only if it can be sure they are the same.  If you have two different email addresses for the same person, it will mostly likely consider them separate people, even if you know they are the same.

WeCanDoCRM enables you to fetch contactlist from all over, such as Microsoft Outlook and other email systems, existing customer databases and social networks.  It is inevitable that different contact details will be held for the same person, so we’d provided an easy way to bring all your duplicate contacts together as one, merging the most relevant details into a ingle contact record whilst deleting the duplicates.

Step 1:

Go into WeCanDoCRM, hover over the Contacts menu item and then click on the Merge link.

Step 2:

In the filter box above the Full Name column, type in the name of the contact whose records you wish to consolidate.  All matches will come up in the results below.

Step 3:

Of the total results which match the name you entered — and we’ll show you ALL instances where that name occurs, not just duplicate records — tick the TWO records you want to merge together and click Next.

Step 4:

Select from the  left hand and the right columns which versions of the specific contact information you want to retain in the final merged contact.  Make it whichever information you think is most accurate.  Any information you don’t merge into the central column will be deleted when the duplicate records are merged!

You’re done!  You now have just one merged record for that contact.

You can repeat this as many times as you wish if you have many instances of different contact details for the same person; each time the merge will bring together the most relevant details into a single contact view.

So my eye is still killing me. Yesterday it was ok, but I took it out then put it back in and seemed to be getting better. Boy was I wrong. So now it’s out and I can’t see at all unless I put on my glasses and I hate doing that. The eye bothering me made a real crappy photo shoot. I couldn’t keep my eye open as wide as it should have been because it kept bugging me which kept me tearing up which kept my nose running. Oh and sorry ladies not playgirl like photo shoots. Just progress photos. My trainer likes to do 3 month progress photos. You see he does this competition where every 3 months you can enter your photo to be judged and basically they choose a winner based on how far they have come. I’m not going to be doing that, but I thought the photos would be fun. Oh I am still caught up with Darker Than Black. Watched the new episode yesterday. I also only have to work 4 days this week instead of 5. I get Thanksgiving off and don’t work Saturday. Also an update on the friends I tried to set up. Both seem interested in each other so we’ll see. I’m hoping that they do end up together because well they are both good people that deserve good people. Speaking of people let’s look at what a nerd posted.  Now tell me that a nerd did not come up with that. Ok not a nerd because if it was a nerd then it would have said You SHALL not pass. No I never saw the movie just saw spoofs of the movie. Well with that I shall post the Squibies. The annoying thing is that they changed the layout so if I want to post one of the ones that’s growing I have to take it out of my favorites or mess with the code. I hate when they change stuff around for the worse. Today’s video is the opening for Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers. We all know Chip and Dale and if you say you don’t then you clearly never watched cartoons when you were a kid. Oh and in case you can’t remember Chip has the black nose (like a chocolate chip) and dale has the red one. Anyway this was another one of those cartoons that was on the Disney Afternoon lineup. So enjoy. Today’s tip is there are somethings that shouldn’t use the honor system. One of those things is the selling of any good.

Oh and last night was the first time I really slept with my contacts.
Not my fault!

I probably blacked out at about 10 at night, only to wake at 4 plus in the morning and realise that my vision was too clear to be true.
Heh.
Taking them off didn’t hurt but my eyes felt raw after.

Ohohoh, and I’ve become so much fairer, I don’t like it.

In the summer of 2007, I met Cosette; an auspicious child, who is full of curiosity and life. Her poses are her own, as I did very little to direct her.  In between the moments of photographing her, she would often become jealous at the moment I stopped paying attention to her, and I started to photograph someone else.  She would subtly protest her displeasure of me photographing anyone but her: by looking through my camera bag, playing with my equipment, and photographing me as I was photographing other members of her family.

The light was harsh and not easy to contend with during these summer days, and the idea of returning at a later time did strike me on more than one occasion, yet it is not always an option for one reason or another.  The light, like Cosette’s personality, would seldom cooperate when you would like it to.  Despite these little nuances of uncooperative light and personalities, the best place for me to photograph her was between the door well of her home; where I had a little more control of the light, the shadows and the contrast, and a more confined space for her personality.  She spent more than an hour standing there, waiting, as I was waiting for that unexplainable movement of a slight gesture exposing a moment of her personality.

Since then, I have photographed her every year, watching her grow, change, and becoming older.  These changes are evident in the images, over the past two years, and this past year she has had corrective surgery of her spine that was twisting her body out of shape.  According to her doctors, the operation was a success, which has left Cosette in a lot pain.  Despite this though, Cosette, at times, is still herself by expressing her displeasure when I photograph anyone else.

Is killing me. So my contact fell out while I was sleeping so I put it in some solution to try to rehydrate it. Well I clearly should have waited longer before I did that because now it keeps making my eye water and me without my eye drops. So I’ve been dealing with that all morning. It’s really annoying becuse it’s causing my nose to run. I hate how the nose and eyes are connected. Just like I hate how the ears and jaw are connected. Anyway yesterday was a fun day and by fun I mean it sucked. Nothing really happened. Oh well I did try to hook two of my friends up, but well that’s it. Yeah I know I shouldn’t have gottened involved, but well I couldn’t help it. So that could end up back firing….or can end up workout out really well. So this Sunday is starting off great. So here are the squibies. So I figured I’d do the Animaniacs intro. Why? Because it popped up on the videos that I might like on youtube and well I like it so there. Today’s tip is you can fool some of the people some of the time, so try to fool them into giving you some of their money.
