เปิดตัวด้วยวันจันทร์ ซึ่งเป็นการนำเสนออาจารย์ประจำสตูดิโอทั้งเจ็ดท่านว่ามีมุมมองและแนวทางการสอนความเป็น contemporary architecture อย่างไร

อ.จุลทัศน์ เริ่มการนำเสนอด้วยหัวข้อ Mix&Match การเชื่อมต่อระหว่างความเป็นพื้นถิ่นแบบ Regionalism

หลังจากนั้นต่อด้วย อ.จุลพร ซึ่งนำเสนอประสบการณ์การออกแบบของอาจารย์ซึ่งมองว่าความร่วมสมัยนั้นเป็นสภาวะในปัจจุบัน เชื่อมต่อกัีบวิถีชีวิตของเราเอง โดยมีบทสรุปอยู่ที่บ้านของอาจารย์เองในปัจจุบันที่ได้เีรียนรู้ความเป็น contemporary จากบ้านหลังนี้

ต่อด้วยอาจารย์วิฑูรย์ที่เสนอถึงเรื่องการอนุรักษ์และเราจะสร้างสถาปัตยกรรมในพื้นที่อนุรักษ์ได้อย่างไร

และอาจารย์เชาวลิตที่นำเสนอการพิจารณาความเป็นพื้นถิ่นผ่านความคิดเชิงวัฒนธรรม

หลังจากนั้นอาจารย์สุพลได้นำเสนอประสบการณ์การเข้าไปทำวิจัยบ้านพื้นถิ่น และ แสดงความสนใจในทิศทางการออกแบบความเป็นพื้นถิ่นร่วมสมัยของบ้านชาวบ้าน

ต่อด้วย อ.สันต์ที่นำเสนอการแบ่งเป็นส่วนต่างๆของกระบวนการออกแบบและวิธีการที่อาจารย์จะสามารถเข้าไปเกื้อหนุนความคิดแก่นักศึกษาได้อย่างไร

และจบด้วยกระผมที่นำเสนอ เรื่อง Recapturing Lanna: Lanna in Digital Age พยายามเปิดวิดิโออันนี้ให้ดูด้วย (ที่ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จไม่ค่อยมีคนสนใจมาเป็นปีที่สองแล้ว ฮ่า!)

วันนี้ (พุธ) เริ่มต้นด้วยการนำเสนอขยายประเด็นของอาจารย์จุลทัศน์ว่าการเชื่อมต่อขอวสถาปัตยกรรมในภูมิภาคต่างๆเป็นอย่างไีร และเชื่อมมาที่งานร่วมสมัยอย่างไร ต่อด้วยการนำเสนอที่ตั้งของนศ โดยในเทอมนี้ ทีมอาจารย์ได้เลือกที่ตั้งสี่ที่คือ ในเขตเมืองเก่า พื้นที่ข้างโรงโบว์ลิ่ง, พื้นที่อนุรักษ์ บ้านบริติช บอร์เนียว, พื้นที่ริมน้ำ นางนวลเดิม และ think park นิมมานเหมินทร์ ซึ่งวันนี้นศได้มาทำการนำเสนอ site analysis ให้เพื่อนๆและอาจารย์ฟัง เพื่อสร้างข้อตกลงร่วมกัน และเป็นการฝึกหัดนักศึกษาให้เรียนรู้การเก็บ basic data ของ site เพื่อใช้ในการออกแบบ ซึ่งเป็นการแก้ไขข้อผิดพลาดของสตูดิโอที่แล้วในช่วงต้นที่ข้อตกลงเบื้องต้นในเรื่องที่ตั้งไม่ชัดเจนทำให้ทำให้เกิดการ error ในการออกแบบของนักศึกษา

จากการนำเสนอเห็นว่านักศึกษามีความพยายามทำกันเป็นอย่างมาก แต่มีหลายอย่างที่ยังตะกุกตะกักในความคิดเชื่อมต่อ ในการเข้าไปวิเคราะห์ที่ตั้ง เช่นการแสดงข้อมูลดิบมาทั้งกระปิโดยไม่รู้ว่าจะเอาไปทำอะไรต่อ (ซึ่งเราสามารถเห็นอาการเดียวกันนี้ได้ปีอื่นๆ ?), การขาดวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลที่นำมาเสนอว่าผลที่ได้คืออะไรแล้วมันส่งผลอย่างไรต่อการออกแบบเช่น ย่านนี้คนจีนอยู่เยอะแล้วเป็นอย่างไร ?, ย่านนี้คนจบปตรีเยอะแล้วเป็นอย่างไร ซึ่งผลคิดว่าส่วนหนึ่งมาจากการขาดประสบการณ์ในการเข้าไปทำความรู้จักกับที่ตั้งเพื่อสร้าง Program ของตนเอง เชื่อว่า เมื่อได้ทดลองสร้างโปรแกรมของตนเองจากการเข้าไป “จมดิ่ง” ในที่ตั้งที่เลือกแล้วในทั้งสองโปรเจคท์ ความคิดเหล่านีจะแจ่มชัดมากยิ่งขึ้น

หลังจากนั้นจึงได้ไปช่วยกัน clear ห้องนิทรรศการ ซึ่งทุกคนก็ตั้งใจทำกันอย่างน่ารักมาก ไม่น่าเชื่อว่าห้องนิทรรศการจะเกลี้ยงได้ขนาดนี้!

This website shows 7 tours that one can do in Budapest by visiting contemporary examples of architecture (buildings built after 1989). I am totally delighted because the website is structured by the Hungarian zooming presentation tool Prezi, which got the World Technology Award in Arts this year.

And also because it uses so-called QR-codes, or 2-dimensional bar codes that anybody can decode with a mobile phone equipped with a camera and a bar code reader (like this) – and of course with wi-fi access. Because the QR-codes are hiding the link to the website where the informations are about the building in question. I don’t know exactly where are these bar codes placed at the buildings, are they on the wall or where, but I’ll check it later.

Tensegrity, a term coined by one of this century’s greatest minds, Buckminster Fuller, is a moniker for tensional integrity, and refers to a type of lightweight construction where tension and compression members are balanced computationally in space with every member being either in pure tension or pure compression. Typically made of lightweight rod and cable systems, the result is often a delicate-looking structure which is actually mathematically as strong as it’s component material properties allow. According to Donald Ingber at Harvard:

“The tension-bearing members in these structures – whether Fuller’s domes or Snelson’s sculptures – map out the shortest paths between adjacent members (and are therefore, by definition, arranged geodesically) Tensional forces naturally transmit themselves over the shortest distance between two points, so the members of a tensegrity structure are precisely positioned to best withstand stress. For this reason, tensegrity structures offer a maximum amount of strength.”

When he first saw the sculptures by Kenneth Snelson, Fuller realized the potential of the technology and incorporated the system in the development of his famous geodesic domes.

Pioneered by Russian Constructivist artists in the 1920’s, “tensegrity” refers to a class of structural systems that allocate tension and compression so that solid matter appears to float in a tensile network. The word itself was coined by Buckminster Fuller as a portmanteau of the phrase “tensional integrity.” Because of their incredible structural efficiency, tensegrity systems have been the subject of mega-structural utopian speculation at the fringes of architecture, such as the “Cloud 9” floating city project proposed by Fuller.

Perhaps as a result of this lineage, tensegrity systems have been co-opted by a kind of high modern discourse that privileges efficiency, balance, cellular repetition, and platonic forms.  In this mode of thinking, tensegrity structures are valued for their purity, the way in which compression and tension are separated and are resolved into rational forms at the macro-scale. The strictness of this scheme has resulted in a problematic interface to the messiness of real architecture as designers attempt to accommodate complex programs and forms within the regime of the “pure” system. In other words, tensegrity is boring.

As the purity of this scheme is loosened, however, tensegrity structures can become sophisticated computing devices that allow complex exchanges between tension and compression to emerge. With this looseness also comes a shift in values. The pleasure of a “pure” or “perfect” tensegrity system is in observing the spatial array of tensile and compression forces: the beauty of being able to visually trace familiar engineering concepts in counterintuitive arrangements that seem to float. By contrast, the pleasure of a loosened or “polluted” tensegrity is in the way tension and compression are control devices that provoke the development of new morphological and material systems. Put another way, tension and compression become interesting for the way they can do work that exceeds a structural capacity, but is at the same time driven by structural logic. In this way, experiments with matter can become “live” and “active,” energized by the activity of physics at play in the system. It’s time to reclaim tensegrity from the nerds.

Un encargo algo peculiar, porque lo que se me pedía no era estrictamente un reportaje del edificio, sino el uso que sus dueños hacían de el.

La idea de proyecto era recuperar los espacios comunales para los vecinos, volcado estos hacia el interior. De manera que se creasen zonas privadas y públicas de limites difusos, rebosantes de actividad a lo largo del día.

Según palabras de los propios vecinos:

“Se crea algo similar a un microclima que hace agradable salir al pasillo durante todo el año.”

In particolare la sala con il Bar riservata ai colloqui dei pazienti con i familiari viene investita da un progetto di architettura degli interni e arredamento che ne riqualifica gli spazi e l’immagine

Adriana Sansão, Celso Rayol e Cláudia Miranda são três jovens arquitetos cariocas.

Adriana Sansão faz doutorado em Urbanismo na UFRJ, e está nesse momento em Barcelona fazendo um doutorado sanduiche. Formada pela UFRJ em 1995 e mestre pela mesma escola, ganhou vários premios como o Concurso Rio Cidade II e a Bienal Internacional de Arquitetura de São Paulo em 2007. É professora do Centro de Arquitetura e Urbanismo do- Instituto Metodista Bennett desde 2007.

Celso Rayol é formado pela Universidade Santa Úrsula (1991), e atualmente trabalha como arquiteto diretor na STA Arquitetura. Desde a graduação trabalhou em projetos de grande porte como Hotel Sheraton Barra, Centro Emp. M. H. Simonsen, Downtown, Botafogo Praia Shopping, entre outros. Ganhou prêmios nos concursos do IAB, como Praça Porto Rocha e Decoração do Sambódromo para o Carnaval de 88. Professor da PUC-Rio desde 2003 e da Escola de Design de Interiores da Universidade Cândido Mendes desde 1997.

Cláudia Miranda, também formada em 1991, só que na UFRJ, é mestre em Desenho Urbano pelo PROURB/UFRJ e trabalha desde a graduação com projetos de arquitetura com ênfase nas áreas residencial, comercial e coorporativa. Professora da PUC-Rio desde 2004 e da Escola de Design de Interiores da Universidade Cândido Mendes desde 1999.

Em 2005 os três, ainda com o escritório Studio 101, foram premiados pelo IAB do Rio de Janeiro, com projeto de revitalização do Edifício Glória, na Cinelândia.

O trabalho que publico aqui é o projeto feito para a Prefeitura do Rio de Janeiro em 2003, para a Rua do Livramento, na Gamboa, dentro do Programa Novas Alternativas Habitacionais, quando os arquitetos faziam parte do Studio 101 Arquitetura, escritório que não existe mais. A Gamboa é um bairro do centro da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, localizado na Zona Portuária carioca (“Centro Velho”), dotado de comércio e indústria em expansão e de residências de classe média-baixa.

O projeto, de habitação social, faz a adaptação de um edifício antigo de três pavimentos, e o transforma em um conjunto de 14 apartamentos, com moradias em kitinets e de 1 dormitório, com uma solução de fachada que renova o aspecto externo do edifício, valorizando-o. O estudo ficou só no projeto básico, não tendo sido utilizado pela Prefeitura, o que é uma pena.
