WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — A woman continues to recover after police say she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend who drove his car into the Westmoreland County convenience store where she works.

On Wednesday, when she returned to work, Amber Lewis’ boss fired her.

She says she can’t understand why her boss was so sympathetic after the attack, and then showed her the door, 24 hours later.

“She hugged me, she comforted me, and then she told me take the week off and then they all just changed their minds and I’m no longer employed,” Lewis said.

Police say Lewis’ ex-boyfriend, David Cass, Jr., attacked her because he wanted his house keys and PlayStation back.

Today I would like to tell you about my weekend from hell and the many amusing things.

Saturday I slept late. I got up at 8:30 made my coffee and went into the living room for my nice little alone time with the news (world news not local. I can’t stand local news what with the slant they put on it.) and my coffee. Rick came staggering out of the bedroom around 11:00. His hair was sticking up and his busy eyebrows looked like horns on his face. He was in a bad mood and didn’t like any thing. First I say “good morning’. His reply was,”what’s so good about it?” Then he told me that he was going to throw my kitchen garbage container in the garbage, that he was sick of taking out the trash everyday and how it was going to cause him to die of a heart attack in the driveway from taking the trash out. He wanted to go buy a 50 gallon container to put into the kitchen. I told him that he could not stock pile garbage in the house. That just wasn’t done, at least in my house. Then he started in on how it was going to kill him. Make him have a heart attack. Blah, Blah, Blah. He has a tendency to self medicate and spent his weekends in bed. I was totally pissed by this time because he couldn’t manage to put in a rubber washer or put the hinges back on my cabinet doors, so the local handy man came over and did it. I blew it off and went off by myself to my computer and looked up ways to kill him without getting caught. (couldn’t find a way.)

Sunday is another day. I don’t even remember what he said that pissed me off so bad, but I told him I’ve had quite enough of his shit. I hadn’t been up 5 minutes. When I got up I just put on yesterday’s dirty PJ. I fed the cat when I got up and spilled cat food juice down the front of my shirt. I wear a bottom denture and it had been rubbing my lower lip, so I had taken it out the night before. I haven’t taken a shower or anything. Rick and I were in a hell fight. We had never argued like that before. I told him if he was going to be like that, then he just needed to find somewhere else to live. I was sooooo mad, I stuck my feet in my tenny shoes without socks and told Rick I was leaving. He said, let me get out of your way then. He was talking about his car behind mine. I jerked up my purse and told him to hurry it up or I was going to back over that piece of shit. I would have cut my nose off to spite my face because both cars belong to me. I tore out of the driveway then wondered where I was going to go. I decided to go buy a pack of cigarettes. When I pulled up in front of the store, I realized that I was in dirty P.J.’s, tenny shoes, no teeth and no phone. I had left them all at home. Now don’t I look a sight.? I walked in to the store, thank god no one else was in there, and got me a pack. After I got back into the car, I decided to go to Starbuck and get me a coffee. I visited Starbuck in all my glory, got a coffee to go and left. Now, I had no where else to go. Where do all girls go when they are faced with all this? MOMMA’s. So I drove the hour to mom’s house and visited. They were all laughing at my attire. My big brother said to tell Rick that he didn’t straighten up that my big brother was going to whip him. We are all in our mid to upper fifties. Wouldn’t that be a sight. Senior citizens rolling around the yard. I went back home 3 1/2 hours later. Rick had made up his mind that he wanted to stay with me and that he would straighten up. He told me that he had been out looking for me. He when to the corner store, Krogers and starbucks looking for me.

APOLLO (KDKA) — A Plum man is facing a list of charges after police say he drove his car into the front doors of the Westmoreland County convenience store where his ex-girlfriend works and then assaulted her.

The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Fueland BP on Route 380 in Washington Township.

The suspect, 23-year-old David Cass Jr. of Plum, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and burglary.

[worldnow id=8758008 width=385 height=255 type=video]

According to Washington Township Police, the suspect’s estranged 21-year-old girlfriend, Amber Lewis, reported to investigators that she locked the doors to the convenience store when she first saw Cass show up.

Lewis is a clerk there. She called 911 when she said Cass tried to get in.

Police say Cass backed his white Hyundai up into the bar parking lot across the street, and then sped forward. The impact of the vehicle smashed the doors in.

“We determined he backed up probably a good 200 feet away and gunned the car,” said Chief Scott Slagle, of Washington Township Police. “The car actually went airborne for a moment before it hit the curb and slammed into the front door, so it could have been very dangerous.”

Police say Cass smashed through the store-front, climbed out of the car window and assaulted Lewis.

Police say Lewis’ 911 call stayed connected throughout the entire ordeal, and investigators say they plan to use the recorded call for evidence.

“And then they heard the phone drop, and she told them at that point he punched her in the face, grabbed her by her head and slammed her head off the ground numerous times,” said Chief Slagle.

Damian Hantz says he knows the Cass family.

He told KDKA’s Kym Gable, “He comes from a good family. He’s a good kid. He may have lost it for a little bit because of a fight with a girlfriend… obviously, to drive a car through a building.”

Police say while they were at the scene conducting their investigation, they spotted Cass’ car driving by the scene and after a short chase stopped the vehicle and took the suspect into custody without incident.

The front doors of the building were damaged in the incident. Police say they found glass strewn about the parking lot as well as acceleration marks from the vehicle’s tires.

Cass was arraigned and later posted bond. Lewis was not seriously hurt.

From Rick Warren’s Daily Devotional – Don’t Give Temptation Power

Have you ever watched a food advertisement on television and suddenly felt you were hungry? Have you ever heard someone cough and immediately felt the need to clear your throat? Ever watched someone release a big yawn and felt the urge to yawn yourself?

This is the power of suggestion working within your mind. We naturally move toward whatever our attention is focused on. The more you think about something, the stronger it takes hold of you.

This is why repeating, “I must stop eating too much or stop smoking or stop lusting” is a self-defeating strategy. It keeps you focused on what you don’t want. It’s like announcing, “I’m never going to do what my mom did.” You are setting yourself up to repeat it.

Temptation begins by capturing your attention. What gets your attention arouses your emotions. Then your emotions activate your behavior, and you act on what you feel. The more you focus on “I don’t want to do this,” the stronger temptation draws you into its web.

Ramblings from Connor’s dad – Phil Downer was talking to a group of guys one time about temptation. He assured us that we could be minding our own business, and temptations would still come along. He reminded us that temptation in and of itself, is not sin. How we react to it decides whether or not it’s sin.

He told a story of a man named “Steve” who went into the same convenience store every day. But, there was porn in that store that he had given in to several times. Phil told him that this one was easy…never go in that store again. Go find a slightly less convenient store to patronize. He did encourage Steve to call the store owner, who he knew, and tell him why he would not be patronizing the store anymore.

Why don’t I do that more often? Instead, I look for my Superman hair gel, leave my Clark Kent glasses at home, and think I can overcome “that” temptation with my super-human powers. Wouldn’t it make a whole lot more sense to just avoid that source of temptation all together. No, it is not a cowards way out! What did the very wise Joseph do when faced with his boss’s attractive wife, who wanted to sleep with him and grabbed him by his jacket to take him to her bed? He did not stand there and say I can withstand this, I will talk her out of it by telling her how wonderful her husband is. The Bible says he FLED!

We need to remind ourselves that this is a spiritual battle. The enemy is very patient. We need to constantly be on guard. And when all else fails…RUN!!…

Alright, this next one is only going to make total sense to a small number of people, and the large majority of those people will never read this, so I apologize for that. But, I’ll do what I can to explain.

Last night, the convenience store that I work for, called “Ugo’s”, had a Formal for the employees to celebrate the last year. The idea was for everyone to dress up nice and have a nice dinner together. We’re all students, so drinking was prohibited, but everyone got individualized “paper plate awards” based on things they’d done over the last year, and we held mock elections on various wacky things. So there was that. Afterwards, a bunch of us stayed an watched the Michigan-Syracuse. Yelling, screaming, and hyperventilating ensued.

Alright. I think that’s most everything you need to understand this poem. I usually get bored at functions like this, so I decided to write this series of double dactyls about the events that occurred. At first I decided it was too specific to post here, but I figure, whatever, I took the time to write it, so I might as well post it somewhere.

Jiggery Pokery
Ugo’s strict Formal, a
Noble embargo on
Alcohol drinks

Boss doesn’t know that the
Dipsomaniacal
Students act sober much
More than she thinks

Higgeldy Piggeldy
Ugo’s swank Formal, the
Greatest occasion for
Paper-made plates

Colored with markers that
Passive-Aggresively
Celebrate friends by dis-
-playing their traits

Jickety Jackety
Ugo’s first Formal, the
Final eleven of
Erika’s crew

Watching the basketball
Game, all while yelling words
Uncomplimentary
Cause they’re “so true”.

So since it’s the beginning of springtime here in Japan we decided to go to a park so we could catch the end of the Sakura, relax and take a stroll! So after looking on the internet we decided on Kitanomaru Park （北の丸公園）! It is about twenty minutes by subway from Ikebukuro （池袋）one-way. To get there you first need to ride the Yurakucho line （有楽町線）and then switch over to the Tozai line （東西線）at Iidabashi （飯田橋）. From Iidabashi, you ride one stop to Kudanshita　（九段下）, once at Kudanshita you will leave through exit number 2. Walk straight for two minutes and turn to the left and you’ll see giant wooden gates and that is the entrance to the park! It is 320yen round-trip from Ikebukuro.

If you are going in the springtime or summertime, I’d suggest either making a lunch or buying something a convenience store and going on a picnic! We decided to buy some food from a convenience store and chow down. There are a few different options on where to eat. You can snag one of the many benches scattered around the park which are super comfortable, sit together at one of the few stone picnic tables or find a spot on the ground! Around the middle of the park there is a beautiful pond and I caught a quick nap on Kazuki while we sat pond-side.

There are several different paths you can walk on, but they all connect up together at many places. The park is not super big and if you eat setting out to conquer the park, you could walk all the paths in about an hour and a half. We spent about two and a half hours and only made it about three fourths of the way. This included eating, napping, chatting on the bench and taking pictures of flowers ever few minutes.

Different ares of the park appeared to have different themes. The first area we walked was all the blossoming trees like the cherry blossoms. Many flowering bushes also lined the path in this area. You could also see a statue of the first Prime Minister after World War 2, Yoshida-san.

Another area was like the picture above, and I felt it was a kind of tree garden. This was one of my favorite areas because the trees were all tall and the leaves branched out at the top and blocked out a lot of sunlight. So walking through this area gave a bit of a romantic mood – until the crows started cawing. The crows blend in, so you cannot really see them, but after awhile I started picking them out! The crows apparently also loved this section the most!

If you are not in the mood for spending the day only walking around the park, inside there is also a Science Museum, a Craft’s Museum as well as the Japan Budokan （日本武道館）; which Kazuki informed me is where they hold sports events. Outside of the park and across the street you can also find the Yasukuni Temple　（靖国神社）, which has a museum for World War II located inside.

Another bonus about this area is that I felt like I was not in Tokyo. I could escape from the city for a day and relax in nature. I would love to go back to this park!

CHIPPEWA (KDKA) — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in an armed robbery early this morning at a gas station and convenience store in Beaver County.

The robbery happened around 6:30 a.m. on Constitution Boulevard in Chippewa.

Police have now released the surveillance video in hopes someone will recognize the suspect and give them a call.

[worldnow id=8742462 width=385 height=255 type=video]

The video shows the robber stroll inside the Marathon gas station and convenience store. He then pointed a full-length shotgun at the clerk and demanded money.

The suspect’s face was covered. But he is shown carrying a backpack where he stuffed the cash the clerk gave to him.

To make sure he didn’t leave any money behind, he then pointed to the drawer, touched it and the clerk lifts it, but there’s no extra cash. Police aren’t saying how much was taken.

Before the suspect took off, he also demanded Newport cigarettes. The clerk dumped them in the backpack, too.

The suspect took off on foot toward Darlington Road.

Police hope the surveillance video will help them identify the suspect.

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to contact Chippewa Police at 724-843-8227.

Mitch O’Connell was driving from Wisconsin to Chicago a stopped for gas. Inside the convenience store was a stock photo of a yelling youngster on a display to advertise the amazing deals available. O’Connell told WWN that, “a bell went off.”

He immediately ran home and compared the photo to Bat Boy. He came to a conclusion that Bat Boy was… alive and in Wisconsin.

And Bat Boy was on the run again:

O’Connell is now being heralded across the country for his investigative journalism. WWN was reportedly entering into a eight-figure deal to pay him for his services (and the photo), but instead they have placed McConnell on the official Bat Boy Investigative Team. O’Connell will appear in FINDING BAT BOY, a new reality show that will begin on The Discovery Channel in the fall.

Outside the sky is clear, the sun is out! But this after two days of heavy rain, during which water

Outside the sky is clear, the sun is out!
But this after two days of heavy rain, during which water went on running anywhere. Sakura trees are now stripped down of their rose petals, lying on the drying ground.

Tokyo is well know for being a city that was criss-crossed by numerous canals. Nowadays you can see them still but they are unused and many of them have been covered by concrete. Often, when rain doesn’t stop for a consequent amount of time, concrete goes on blowing up and water spurting out.

But the peculiar thing about raining in tokyo is the amount of umbrellas you find in the street afterward. Walk a street, stroll and look around a bit. Here it is! And there! And then you found this:

As far as I can imagine, this is quite peculiar to Japan. In a sense, since I was a kid, I would use the same umbrella. A sturdy, quite expensive one, that I would keep somewhere in the house and take with me on rainy days. However here, the convenience of convenience stores (what a great sense of humour) make it cheap and easy to step outside without paying much attention to forecast, which will anyway put you at risk of uncertainty.

But fear not! If rains starts to fall, much of people here will flow into “conbini” and buy there cheap, and one-day reliable umbrella.
It is important to know though that their lifetime is depending on the skills of first the holder, who will have to take the wind in the right direction, and secondly the strength of the weather that regardless of anything, if getting stronger, will blow anything.

Broken umbrellas left in the street after the storm are thus remains of loss fights against the weather. But if you fail on the task, hold your head high, get a 500 yen coin and go once more to the nearest Convenience Store!

Obviously I got a bit carried away eating before I managed to take this pic.

They do really cheap breakfast – 2 eggs, nice bacon, thick cut toast, a sausage, tomato and an orange juice for about $12.
