I have obviously been hiding under a rock and have missed out on knowning about ban.do — the greatest, most beautiful headband line in the whole entire world (okay, maybe I being dramatic). But just look for yourself.

Fox News Channel (FNC) is the youngest cable news channel, started in 1996, but its viewership has grown rapidly. It has surpassed CNN and become the number one cable news channel.

At its website, FNC has a simple page to show video reporting. And there are a lot of videos in so many different categories! Here are some samples: Hot Topics (Tiger Woods On Hold), Entertainment (Up in the Air), Health (Wine Bad for Teeth?), and Opinion (Is America Losing Power in the World?)

I recently moved to St. Louis, and each week I’ve discovered something else amazing about this place. There is the obvious: the food, the Gateway Arch, Forest Park, the Delmar Loop, the old neighborhoods. Then there are the things you only find out about after you’ve been here for a time, like the fact that Chuck Berry performs at Blueberry Hill on a regular basis, or Crown Candy Kitchen, one of the oldest soda fountains in the country. Every week it seems that I discover something more amazing than everything previous, but this week I think I’ve reached the pinnacle, unless they’re holding a parade in my honor next week.

The City Museum looks as if an insane artist’s head exploded, and all the random creative ideas she ever had splattered against the walls and stuck. I can’t begin to do the place justice, but here are some highlights:

They have an aquarium where you can wriggle through an acrylic tube through one of the exhibits:

You can also see two-headed snakes and turtles:

Not to mention getting a manicure from skin-eating fish:

But the aquarium is just one part of the City Museum. There is a model train set:

A skate park:

A baby grand piano:

A pipe organ:

And even a circus school:

There’s much more, but even that doesn’t do justice to the place. It is filled with amazing architecture:

A hall of mirrors.

A hall with insect displays.

A half-exposed elephant.

A tiled floor with fish.

The ceiling, covered with shreds of parachute (we think).

Gargoyles.

A wall of soda bottles.

A four-foot cube of rock, hanging from the ceiling for no reason.

But even that doesn’t convey the full sense of wonder this place creates. There are endless interactive aspects, from caves to slides to swinging ropes. I climbed up this tube of rebar:

It took about ten minutes and I was sweating by the end. The slides are amazing. One of them is a spiral slide that was used in the shoe-factory days to deliver shoes from upper floors to lower floors. It’s seven stories tall and takes about twenty (somewhat painful) seconds to go down. Here’s a picture from inside one of the many tunnels:

And we didn’t even get to go outside, where there is a Ferris Wheel and more. This is just an amazing place. By the way, this was at my company’s holiday party — Announce Media rocks.

Its cool, GUI design is class apart from Google. Do give it a try.I dint find any result missing and I could search even the remotest Nitte in it

I was looking today at my ever-growing pile of potential topics for blog posts. By “pile”, I really mean two distinct places – my BLOG folder on my virtual desktop and the paper file folder on my real and somewhat cluttered desk. Among the many great ideas was an article that caught my eye back in August…

The Massachusetts Historical Society has put together a Twitter page for John Quincy Adams where they “tweet” daily using entries from his 1809 diary. I remember, now, finding it to be an interesting use of Twitter and being curious about whether they would be successful. A quick look at the Twitter page reveals they presently have over 16,000 followers! Interestingly, albeit not surprising, a grad student was the first to equate the short entries to those of a Twitter feed and the idea took off from there.

I’ll admit that I’ve been resistant to Twitter, yet, I am really liking the educational possibilities. I think it would be a fun way to bring characters, actual and fictional, to life. And, of course, this idea works well beyond the history classroom too. It would be interesting to have students create a Twitter feed for a character in a novel, an explorer, an artist finishing up a masterpiece, or as a bystander to an event. It seems like a great way to have students synthesize information and be able to convey their understanding and interpretation…in 140 characters or less per tweet, of course.

I don’t know if I’ve posted in the past about Swagbucks, but I’m taking the opportunity to do so now. I signed up a while back at the suggestion of MoneySavingMom, because she has yet to steer me wrong. This one couldn’t be easier.

You earn ’swagbucks’ a number of  ways, but the easiest way is through using swagbucks for searches. Now, the swagbucks search IS a google search, so it’s no skin off my back to go through their site. Random searches get swagbucks, its as easy as that.

You can trade in your swagbucks towards gift cards or a ton of other things.

The best way to use it is to install the toolbar, but only because then you’ll default to using their search instead of the one in your browser. Again, no sweat, and it shows you all of the time how many swagbucks you have. Occassionally, they’ll have Facebook and Twitter contests as well, so it’s worthwhile to check in on them. Swagbucks is not new, in fact I was surprised to find out how many people I know are using it.

Popular Science is an American monthly magazine that covers science and technology. It’s one of the oldest magazines, started in the late 19th century, and its target readers are general public.

At its redesigned website, Popular Science puts out video reports along with the text ones. Here are some interesting reports: Sony’s 3-D Television, video ads in a print magazine, and turning brain waves into beautiful music.

This man is almost a god to me

Sure his shirt has cherries on it, and there is a deranged look in his eyes, but this man IS SMART.

You know how people can qualify any random facts they come out with by saying “I saw it on mythbusters”?

Well in my house ( and I am sure many others) there’s another phrase that shuts skeptics up. “Trust me, I read it in a Dr.Karl book,” is just as good as saying, “trust me I have a science degree in physics and maths, a masters degree, AND am a doctor of medicine” (NB Dr.Karl has all these qualifications).

Here’s a list of some Dr.karl facts for anyone who wants to appear smart without actually being smart:

- you DON’T get stomach ulcers from stress

-a species of frog known as ‘ the concave-eared Torrent frog’ can hear/ communicate using ultrasound

- some snowflakes ARE identical. In 1988 a scientist named Nancy Knight collected snowflakes on an oiled covered glass slide. Two of them were identical under a microscope

-The light bulb that has been giving light the longest is in a fire station in California. Besides black outs, it has been continuously glowing since 1901

-Muscle does not turn into fat if you stop lifting weights/ exercising etc. Muscle and fat cells are completely different.

-Paper CAN be folded more than 7 times. A girl in America did it 13 times. It just needs to be really thin and long.

-The earth gets heavier by about 40 000 tonnes a year. the cause? cosmic dust.

My latest obsession is Grooveshark. It is an online media player that lets you pick whatever songs you like to create a playlist and stream high quality music online for free.   My brother is in town and we are thinking of checking out some shows.  I saw Camera Obscura is playing later this week and decided to check them out online.  They have 50 or so songs to choose from on Grooveshark.  Fantastic!

Harvard Business Review is a monthly magazine that ranks high among senior executives, management consultants, and business school professors.

It would be way too boring for language learners to read the typical jargon-rich long articles of HBR. But watching the short video clips it produces can be a good learning experience. Most are the short interviews it conducted with the business school professors or senior executives. Here are a few samples: Innovate Like Google, Managing Generation Y, and The Dangers of Nepotism.

An artists’ collective of chip music makers, they offer mp3 format copies of all their releases for free, with some additional stuff and higher-quality format recordings in their store.

I haven’t even begun to plumb the depths of what’s available on there, but I’m excited to. What I’ve heard so far sounds awesome! So check ‘em out, these fine folks definitely deserve a good look and listen.
