Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has told Noisecreep that the band will take to the studio in Januar

Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has told Noisecreep that the band will take to the studio in January “for two or three months” to begin their next album:

“We’ve already got ten tunes fully written and another 15 we’re kind of working on here and there. When I’m not on the road I’m still working, I never stop. And it’s really good, everything we’re doing is really, really good.”

“I can say the material is darker than ‘Come Whatever May,’ but a lot more melodic, a lot stronger, a lot more mature, and the lyrics that are coming out of me are really good,” he says. “I’m really excited.”

When asked about how he chooses which songs for which band (he also fronts Iowan nine piece Slipknot) he replied:

“I just kind of go by my gut. A lot of times people ask me and this is a perfect example, why I brought ‘Snuff’ to the table for Slipknot. They’re like, ‘That’s so obviously a Stone Sour song.’ I was like, ‘How do you know? I wrote the song. How would you like to tell me what my song should go with?”

Sounding good, if they can make a better album than the fantastic Come What(Ever) May, then I’ll be extremely impressed.

According to People.com, Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor married Stephanie Luby on ‘lucky’ Friday, Nov. 13 at Las Vegas’ Palms Casino & Hotel, where the wedding party walked down the aisle to Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls”.

Approximately 350 wedding guests packed the hotel’s nearby Pearl Concert Theater, including Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, as well as Camp Freddy’s Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison, who acted as the minister. The rockers then all took the stage, and even the groom joined in on three songs.

This is Taylor’s second marriage.

Taylor, 35, has two children: A daughter named Angie, born in 1992, and a son named Griffin, born in 2002, both of whom he had with his first wife, Scarlett.

Taylor divorced Scarlett — whom he married on March 11, 2004 in a small ceremony at the Botanical center in Des Moines, Iowa — in early 2007.

In the November 2008 issue of Revolver magazine, he is quoted as saying, “After I got sober, I realized my relationship wasn’t right for me. My wife and I had damaged each other too much.”

Taken from Stone Sour’s fantastic sophomore album, Come What(ever) May, Through Glass is a fan

Taken from Stone Sour’s fantastic sophomore album, Come What(ever) May, Through Glass is a fantastic piece of music. Written by Corey Taylor about his frustration at the current music scene:

“I remember exactly where I was. It was 2004 and I was on tour with Slipknot. I was sitting in a European hotel room watching a music video channel, seeing act after act after act of this insane, innocuous, plastic music. They were plastic, bubbly, gossamer-thin groups where it was really more about the clothes they wore and the length of their cheekbones than it was about the content of the song they were singing.
It really made me mad. I was like, is this it? Have we just gone full circle? Did the singer/songwriter revolution never happen? Is it just the same drivel from the same replicate over and over again? ‘Through Glass’ is really a very angry song. It’s me basically calling ‘bullshit’ on pretty much everyone involved with the ‘American Idol’-type shows. It has its place, but when you’re basically cornering the market and making it very hard for anyone who actually writes their own music to get ahead, then it’s wrong and that’s really why I wrote this song.”

Awesomeness!!! I uber love this video! It’s wicked! One of the best performances I’ve seen! Korn and Slipknot… It’s really nice to see the frontmen of 2 of the best metal bands on stage together.

The best part of the performance is from 3:04 to 3:30. Everyone was like up on his/her feet and headbangin’! Ahaha…so cooool! TOTALLY INSANE! Soooo fuckin’ awesome! And I love how the bass guitarist of Korn (Fieldy) plays in this vid….look at his moves…sweeeet…haha….yeahh! The part where Jonathan Davis beatboxes is also freakin’ awesome…he goes like…”Boom na da mmm dum na ema..da boom na da mmm dum na ema…GO!

Jonathan Davis (Korn) + Corey Taylor (Slipknot) = one awesome performance

Hmm…just wanna comment a little on Corey.

He certainly looks creepy with his mask on. →

But he’s really good-looking…I mean, without the mask. (see his pics below)

Anthrax & Public Enemy – Bring The Noise
My personal favourite collaboration, I choses this above Aerosmith/Run DMC because unlike that song the lyrics in this one actually work with the collaboration, The lyrics are about how Hip- Hop should be treated equally to Metal and Rock music, and if this track doesn’t prove it, nothing will. Plus, the Public Enemy original even mentioned anthrax, these bands were meant for each other!

Last Friday I was surprised to find that I had Slipknot front man Corey Taylor on the show. Slipknot

Last Friday I was surprised to find that I had Slipknot front man Corey Taylor on the show.

Slipknot is arguably one of the biggest metal bands criss-crossing North America right now. Their four albums, beginning with 1999’s Slipknot are all platinum sellers in Canada.

When I was growing up, Slipknot became hugely popular during the days of “nu-metal.” For that reason, the masks, the horror themes… they weren’t really my style. Which is a bit of a shame, because knowing that I would interview Corey Taylor, I went back and had a listen and the music is pretty good.

I am more a fan of his softer stuff. I think “Snuff” is their best cut and I always enjoy Stone Sour.

Mike Devlin over at the Times-Colonist does a good job of explaining it all…

Corey and I talked about growing up in Iowa in poverty, working multiple jobs, getting into metal and rock and roll. The early days of Stones Sour and Slipknot.

We talk about what set Slipknot apart in 1999 and about the changes you’ll hear on the new(er) “All Hope is Lost.”

Some Slipknot fans are not so much into the changes… but fuck it, I like the new record! and that surprised me.

Then we move on to, the end of Slipknot?

Finally, it gets weird and we talk about crazy fans, the masks, people dressed as Slipknot on Halloween, a horror convention in Las Vegas, and try to guess what kind of underwear Corey is wearing.

Mostly I liked Corey Taylor because even though I am clearly not a Slipknot fan, the dude was pleasant, respectful and a good time to chit-chat with on the radio.

So here it is, almost 19 minutes with Corey Taylor.

***

Saturday night I spent my evening in Langford for the last home game of the season for the Victoria Rebels football team. They crushed the Vancouver Trojan by a score of like, a billion to twenty. It was almost silly. Friday on the ZAS before Corey came on the show, I had a chance to talk to a couple guys from the Rebels.

Well, my favorite time of the year has begun and Halloween quickly approaches. Halloween has always had a particular mystique for me because I was born just two hours before it (10:25 on Oct. 30′th). But it also wonderful to me because it is the one time that sick and disgusting depictions of dead people and rotting flesh are not only okay, but sold in every store! How great is that?

Last year was quite possibly the best Halloween of my life. That afternoon a good friend of mine flew in from California to hang out for my birthday. He is also a magician (as well as a great web designer, check him out) so we went to a big fall festival and blew some minds. Half the night we spoke in fake accents. Awesome.

This year I have no plans (other than going to one my favorite restaurants as they actually decorate the entire place and the wait staff is in costume), but I’m sure I’ll find something to get into… Uh… I mean do.

Also, keep your eyes out on Halloween day as a new sketch video will be dropping from ThatGuyCliff.

What do you have planned for Halloween?

On Saturday, I went to a place called Fear Farm to see the End of Summer Scorcher. It was a day long

On Saturday, I went to a place called Fear Farm to see the End of Summer Scorcher. It was a day long concert with Sevendust headlining. It was 104 degrees with a completely clear sky, so I purposely didn’t get there in time to see all the bands. I walked in while Sick Puppies was playing. They have some song on the radio right now that I don’t really like, but they seemed decent live. Then, Otep took the second stage. This was my third time seeing them. They were facing the sun, the sound wasn’t great, and they only had a 30-minute set. I couldn’t hear the guitar most of the time. They’re much better headlining a dark place like the Clubhouse in Tempe. After that, Atreyu hit the main stage. I was pretty sure I didn’t like them. I was right. They suck. Next, it was back to the second stage for Shadows Fall. I’d never seen them before. They’re good live, but I just don’t get into a lot of their songs.

Five Finger Death Punch was next. I saw them at the first End of Summer Scorcher a year ago. They were great then. They went on when the sun was still up, and the crowd wasn’t insanely huge. At one point during a song I was singing along to, I swear that signer Ivan Moody saw me getting into it and pointed me out. This year it was a bit different. They were still great, but the crowd was easily ten times the size. It was nuts. The concert sold out, and this band had to have the biggest crowd of the whole show. They only played two songs from their new album, one of them being “Hard to See”, which is really pretty good. I don’t recall them playing either of the singles that were tacked onto their first album after it had been out for a while. They finished with “The Bleeding.” It was great.

Corey Taylor’s Junk Beer Kidnap Band took the stage after that. I was completely ready to be disappointed. Earlier in the week he was on the local radio station saying that it’s not metal, and that he didn’t care if anyone liked the band. He and his friends were having fun. It was very not metal. The first song they played was “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince. They did some crappy originals (that weren’t very original), a Rolling Stones cover, and the two mellowest Stone Sour singles. Toward the end they seriously played the Cheers theme song. “Where everybody knows your name”? - Yeah, that song. They finished with “Wish” by Nine Inch Nails. That was cool, but it hardly made up for the other crap. At the very end Corey yelled, “fuck you!” into the mic. No Corey, Fuck you.

Having never seen Sevendust before, I waited around for them to play, and I once I heard a few songs, I left. They seemed pretty solid live, but I’m just not that into them and I had a headache.

W. Hollywood, CA

September 10, 2009

It’s been 40 years…can you believe it? Ozzy has been inspiring us musically for 40 years now. To help celebrate this, the Hollywood rock community joined together and kicked off the 2nd Annual Sunset Strip Music Festival with a special tribute honoring rock legend, Ozzy Osbourne.

The SSMF event honors icons who have made an impact on the legacy of The Sunset Strip. On Ozzy Osbourne’s first U.S. tour with Black Sabbath in 1970, the band performed a five-night stand at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go.

Ozzy’s well deserved tribute included special guest speakers Slash of Guns N’ Roses, actor Billy Bob Thornton, Henry Rollins of Black Flag, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, and comedian Jim Norton.

The evening commenced with an all star jam / tribute that included musicians John 5, Steve Stevens, Billy Morrison, Frank Perez, Steve Jones, Kenny Arnoff, Chris Chaney, Donovan Leitch, Mark McGrath and Corey Taylor.

The SSMF culminated into a huge live show that blocked the streets of the Sunset Strip that had Ozzy as the headliner and Korn as direct support. Sure, the traffic and parking was nuts, but it was mind-blowing to see the Sunset Strip shut down…all in the name of rock!

I will be posting some live shots of Ozzy and Korn from the big event in the next few days.

Stay tuned…

Devo aggiungere altro? No. Ecco. Appunto.

Bene. Fantastico. È finita ora la dose di sfiga?

Of course not.

Inimigos do Ritmo?).

Naquele momento, o sangue veio aos meus olhos e me enfureci.

Naquele instante, o metal voltou à minha vida. Quando vi aquela cena, eu conseguia ouvir a voz rouca de Corey Taylor gritando “PEOPLE = SHIT! PEOPLE = SHIT!“

Voltei a ouvir meu bom e velho metal.
